Excellent job with the side by side comparisons. The GX 550 looks sweet, i can’t wait to see how ppl use them over the next few years…460s still better.
Had Toyota moved production of both the big-ass Land Cruiser and the current-gen Lexus LX stateside to the plant that builds the Tundra pickup instead of vetoing the former in favor of the imposturous Sequoia, Americans would've had the 300-Series and LX600 as worthy answers to the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer, and Lincoln Navigator.
Well said, one key difference though remains the interior. Now that specs are out the GX is smaller inside in terms of leg/hip/ shoulder room, only bests the 200/300 in headroom
good comparison, was on the Toyota Australia ,web site ,the base model LC300 is a GX , no deep tinted glass , has 2 row cloth seats .18" steel rims, snorkel and price of $105,000 aus $ with drive offs ,or about $67k U.S. ,we wold buy it if it was more utilitarian , id buy it over the sequoia TRD pro @$83k , cant wait to see the GX overtrail and new LC 1958 other markets have more than 1 LC line prado /lc250., 70 series , LC 300 plus the hi lux base foretuner and all diesels
Arab market LC300s have optional front diff locks and winches on other trims. You can get the 1GR V6 with a winch and lockers on the cheap GX trim. In Japan the LX600 has optional front and rear lockers. Toyota is weird with their packaging.
Thank you for straightening that out. The marketing really has been misrepresented in my opinion. Also just to add to your thoughts the GX 550 really should be called the GX 340 does that make sense because it’s a 3.4 L twin turbo… what are your thoughts?
This is a great comparison video! You always do such a great job brother. I really want this GX. Only reason I’m also looking at a rivian r1s is I got 3 kids and a 3rd row helps. I wonder if they’ll add a 3rd row to the overtrail if we complain enough 😂
Awesome! Welp, that settles it. I'm going to own one, and sooner than later. Will keep my 23 GX 460 also. So the GX 550 has "turn assist" also? (Tank mode). Not sure if I remember seeing that yet or not. Thanks!
Agreed, the GX550 looks like an excellent option. It would probably be my pick as well. I wouldn't be so quick to discount the LX AHC system. It's excellent in its own right.
The Toyota that the Lexus GX is based on is actually the Land Cruiser 250 thus both the GX and 250 are now full-size SUVs like the LX and 300 instead of mid-size ones like we Americans want to label them as - which GXs Mk 1 and 2 and Prados Mk 3 and 4/Land Cruisers 120 and 150 were - given the dimensions even if equivalent and not exact.
I prefer the looks of the new Land Cruiser over the new GX but the value proposition is just much better on the GX. However I’m truly disappointed with the detuned HP considering the tundra is also intended for heavy duty and with the new trd performance package they get almost 430hp with premium fuel.
Great comparison. I would just emphasize that the GX550 is "mechanically" the higher trim Land Cruiser whereas the LX600 is the "Luxury" Land Cruiser. Luxury does NOT mean a more off road capable vehicle. At least not anymore.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD thanks for the info!! in that case I’ll get the premium to save money. Otherwise for my dad back in Africa we may have to get him the Overtrail. The variable height suspension helps a lot. But here in the US I will rarely use that feature
I am in the same boat. Debating between the Premium+ and base OT as they are the same price. Not doing much off road so leaning towards the P+. I just wish I could order it without the 3rd row and with the OT roof rails.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD GRS sells for 89,0000$ in our country, It's most complete vehicle i've ever driven, it drives like sport car on the road, rides like raptor on the washboard yet quietness and NVH is comparable to LX 600. Yet it still performs better on offroad than 4 runner.

There was a video on how gx550 is made. Although some lc lx 300 series ar made in same factory, that video reveals frame being made specifically for gx550 and lc 250. I still believe the lx lc is made to higher quality standards and uses similar but not same frame. Love to see actual comparison of gx550 to lx600 underbody. Despite not having kdss the lx600 still has massive flex as shown on some videos. Only has center locking differential. Another case in point why call toyota refers to lc as 250 series and lc lx as 300 series? Lexus is killing its own lx sales here with all this confusion. Waiting for lx600 refresh to make differences more apparent. Lx600 is definitely lower end lc300 I agree! Lc300 has better interior gadgets and design. Heck even lc300 running boards are beefier. Look at pics carefully.
Frame is TNGAF for LC300, LC250, LX600, GX550, Toyota Sequoia , Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra. *Same TNGAF frame* .. that was/is the entire point of TNGAF; consolidation

Yes Japan gets the LX600 offroad package! That's the trim that _SHOULD_ have been imported to the USA as the Lexus LX600 😃

Will the GX550 have ATRAC up front? Also, does the LX600 have ATRAC at all?
GX550 gets ATRAC on all 4 wheels on all trims. LX600 also has ATRAC.

I love "detuned", because you can fix that with some aftermarket software/tuning.
