The fourth game in the R-Type series and also the first game offering different fighters, with different Force and Wave Cannon combinations.
R-13 Cerberus: A squat black-and-red fighter. The Cerberus uses the Anchor Force, which is linked to the ship by a malleable energy ribbon that can be used to attack enemies with the movement of the ship. The Force can collect its Dosage by grappling into enemies and absorb their energy until they are destroyed. The Cerberus is also fitted with the Lightning Wave Cannon, which emits a fast electrical discharge that homes in on enemies. The R-13's Delta Attack is the Hysteric Dawn, which opens up a dimensional rift.

Like all the other ships, the R-13 fights on, stage to stage, battleground to battleground. And it completes the mission in the surreal home of the bydo. Like the others, it sacrifices its force, letting it stick into the very center of the Bydo Core, and survives the onslaught of sperm-like lifeforms, all of which are mockeries towards the miracle of life, from an organism that respects it even less than the lowest of humanity. And the R-13, along with the R-9 and R-X, fight on, until they can unleash their dose attacks, destroying the Bydo Core from the inside. The escape is on, and the R-9 and R-X, using their wave cannons, open a dimensional gate back home, but the R-13? Its wave cannon is too weak to tear through the dimensions. In the end, the R-13 is left behind, and it is crushed between the "floor" and "ceiling" of this strange realm, where logic and the laws of physics mean nothing. It all fades to black, and then, the music starts. We are presented a hell, made out of flesh. Hints towards this hell were shown earlier in the final level, but now, the camera is close to them. Scrolling through this "landscape", the music "Silence" starts. The begining is shock. The player must know that the R-13 has fallen. In what manner is yet to be revealed, but the player is given the information already. And the player is shocked. In short time, as the camera flies between the trees of bydo flesh, the music subtly changes from its melody of shock... to its melody of sorrow. And by the time the music ends, the camera reaches it's final position. After the music ends, only the sound of heartbeat can be heard. It's not coming from a heart, human or otherwise, though. You see before you a pulsating "tree", and its content... is the R-13. At this point, the player is given the full story. The ship was captured, trapped, its pilot assimilated or consumed, as the blood, or even all flesh, are sucked out of the ship. Whatever remains is either a skeleton surrounded with bydo tentacles hellbent on controlling the ship, or a zombie fully converted into Bydo, ready to pilot the R-13 again someday... except this time, it'd be against humanity, not to save it. The true horrors of the bydo were revealed in R-Type Delta, and further built upon in the subsequent games: R-Type Final (with bydo-infested ships being available for the player to play as and one of the stages turning any normal ship into a bydo) and R-Type Tactics 1-2 (both of which, the player's human armada is converted into the bydo one for the bydo campaigns.). And with another, surprise R-Type game being announced, R-Type Final 2, we may see further evidence of the horrors the Bydo truly present with their ability to infest and assimilate the human body without mercy.

The ending for the Cerberus always got to me a little. The atmosphere, the music, the attention to detail for what is a sidescroller. The folks at IREM respected their creations and it shows.
The R13 couldn't escape the Bydo dimension because its charged shot didn't have enough concentrated power to breach the barrier. It also appears in that form as a boss in R-Type Final.
Sadly the staff who worked on Delta didn't continue on to work on the Final games...
It is the second most saddest moment for me when my Cerberus cannot escaped from that dimension and even more sadder when I came back in Final to put an end to the poor pilot.
The most saddest moment is in Final when the pilot fire the final wave cannon and die with Proud of you playing in the background.
One more sad moment is in R-type 2 when your friends came in to fire their last wave cannon to help the pilot break out then they're disintegrated.
Damn! R-type is full of sad moment.
That was my favourite ship in this game, although I was never able to pass the fifth stage.
The video is edited, so I presume you couldn't make it without losing some lives, could you?
The same. My problem was with the 6th stage. Several times I arrived there having lost no lives: only to die horribly in that stage. I've only passed that stage recently in an emulator with the save function.

続編のR･TYPE FINALの「暗黒の森の番犬」への伏線だったのですね。
It also plays on the irony of the ship's name; "Cerberus", being that is the name of the dog that guards the entrance to hell.
I got this at the same time as Wipeout XL and I can tell you it was Graphical Bliss after playing Genesis for years

Weird ending
It's honestly sad. It's the only ship you play as that doesn't have the power enough to escape from the dimension.
In R-Type Final, it's even more impactful that on a secret level, you find an R13 Ship assimilated with the Bydo, and have to defeat them with the words "he was once a hero" right before it.
That hit me pretty hard.
