In Australia, if someone is trying to sell you something, or says everything is "fucked" even though it couldn't be, people do not respond well to it. We appreciate honesty, being more transparent and straight forward about a situation.

It originally was a racial slur, it apparently comes from "Golliwog" which was an old black doll from the late 1800s, so the Brit-Aussies used it as a racial term when Mediterranean people arrived because we are typically tanned and brown. Now we use it among ourselves since we are proud of our heritage. The words history is kind of like the N word in America in a way, first used as a racial term but then used among themselves.

I personally find it hilarious that every Aussie slang term we have for any group of people is defined as a slur in the US, but to us Aussies it's just a word, no slur about it. It's like how Americans can call someone an African-American without it being a slur. We have plenty of other ways and words to insult people with, we don't need to use slurs. Shortening a word or using a slang term doesn't automatically mean it's being used in a negative way or with a negative connotation.

Which I always thought was wrong as you had to register for national service at 18 and if your birthday was called, you had to enlist in the army. Drinking age in licenced premiss in Australia is 18, there is no drinking age limit for drinking in private premise, only requirement is the parent/guardian or someone with the permission of the parent/guardian must be the one supplying the alcohol & must supervise appropriately. Not sure how old I was when I started drinking, was always normal for me, first a sip from my parent's glass, then when I got older, a wine glass of my own at dinner, with a tiny bit in it, then I found the shot glasses in the liquor cabinet & loved them, I was allowed to have a "full glass" of wine in one of those!
First time I got seriously drunk was when I was 10, at a parent's birthday, not on purpose, I didn't realise how much of the hard stuff was in the punch & I was bored towards the end of the party & literally drank half the punch bowl for something to do. Put me off drinking for a while lol.
Most of my friends were the same, parents raised us that way so there wouldn't be a novelty of drinking/getting drunk when we turned 18 & it worked well, by the time I was 18, I was fully aware of how alcohol worked & what I could & couldn't handle & had no desire to drink just to get drunk or to rebel against parents, since they didn't care. Great way to do it imo!
I also used to drink regularly when going out with my family for dinner at licenced premises, which was technically illegal, but I'm old enough to have been from the era when stuff like that was never enforced if there wasn't a problem in what was happening. Don't think there was ever a time I didn't try whatever wine my parents were drinking, just to experience the different flavours. At one really posh one we went to when I was really little, waiter jokingly offered me some wine while pouring it for my parents, so I said "yes please", to his shock lol he was "oh no, no no" but my parents said it was fine, so I ended up drinking wine from my own wine glass at this super posh restaurant, which kinda made my night :)).
In my experience at least, kids drinking isn't taken as being such a big issue in Australia compared to in the US. Same with coffee too, I remember watching a US tv show where they made a big deal out of the kid wanting to drink a coffee & obviously not being allowed to. Was normal for me to drink coffee as a kid too & I've never heard of any Aussie kid not being allowed to if they wanted to

The Holden Nova was a rebadged Toyota Corolla in the 90s . Alot of car companies were sharing cars. Holden was the Australian GM . As much as that guy disrespects that car , it's at least 25 years old and still going. Probably uses almost no fuel .

Holden Nova is a Toyota Corolla hatch (was also sedans). Holden (General Motors in Australia) rebadged them with a few small cosmetic alterations (still had a Toyota toolkit with its spare wheel and toyota branding on things like tail lights). Toyota in turn used the commodore for a larger sedan and badge it with a Toyota emblem.
Also that Nova is worth more now than it was about 5-10 years ago (often up for a few thousand due to its economy and reliability). If its relatively ok condition with moderate KMs (under 250k) and roadworthy its probably $5k +. Far more if it has one of the more desirable engines (not sure Holden got them or if Toyota kept them in house but a 4AGE corolla of that vintage in good condition is 10k+).

The drinking age used too be higher, but I think either after WW1 or WW2 they lowered it too 18. They basically used the argument, if we we can give them guns and send them too war, they should be able too have a drink before they leave and if they return.

    G'day Ryan
reason drinking age in Aus is 18 is that a big stink was kicked up
when guys were conscripted to go to Vietnam , in the Army, the politicians
had no choice but to legislate to bring it down from 21.
Aussies were incensed you could die for your country but you could not
have a beer (or have a cigarette).
    👍👍👍👍👍

Hey Ryan. I actually agree with the US when it comes to the drinking age. Our 18yr olds can drink, drive and vote all at the same time of their lives. I think we should at least have Drivers Ed in school. To help them understand how dangerous drinking and driving is. Me at 18 Meh, I won't get caught..... 😅
