To be fair.. I sleep on the floor on a one inch piece of foam and I've had some of the best slept in my life.. as well as increased flexibility and less back pain.
Sleeping on the floor is rough. I'm old-ish now, and my hip bones ache when I do it BUT when I was pregnant, it seemed to be the only way I could get some sleep! I have no idea... being pregnant is weird.
I feel bad the experience wasn’t great, I’ve been sleeping on the “floor” for the past couple years and it’s been fantastic. It took a bit of messing around to get it right but it’s more effective if it’s not super hard floor or uneven like you did here. I currently sleep on a Japanese mattress on top of gym mat puzzles (like a yoga mat but thicker, Japanese use tatami mats which have even more give) which is like sleeping on a big pillow with some give from the puzzle mat. You’d need more pillows under you in an even way so every bit of you is laying on some pillow to be effective. When I first tried it, I literally found all my spare pillows and made a full sleeping mat with them. It definitely helps my lower back issues and I even wake up more refreshed and less headaches then softer beds plus the added bonus that it all folds up and hides in my closet. *I put floor in quotes as I’m technically sleeping on a mattress but it’s like super thin and I can feel the floor underneath me but supports areas that need it just enough.
try 5 days of being a mom... you could do like mom classes and try taking care of one of those babies who have needs you could babysit.... just some ideas
Sleeping on the floor is actually common in South Asia! We use a mat woven out of dried grass which is indigenous to the south Asian region. A thin pillow and thin cotton bedsheets are used. It will take some time getting used to for a person who is used to sleeping on mattresses! But it isn’t all that uncomfortable
Yeah but sleeping on the ground outside is totally different than a hard floor inside I've done both but I am surprised she didn't try to use a sleeping bag since they got some padding to them!
I sleep on the floor and it’s actually really comfortable! However, you have to layer blankets to create a makeshift bed. It’s pretty self explanatory. It really does improve your posture. I hate sleeping on beds because first of all, they take up so much space, they’re expensive, and mattresses tend to “sink” in over time. Many people in other countries have to sleep on the floor everyday. I kind of think that Lucie wasn’t really taking sleeping on the floor to consideration. Most of the video was about complaints she had. I’m Asian and stereotypically, we sleep on floors. Lucie should have layered blankets and slept on TOP of it. A yoga mat is not going to do anything and I agree that yoga mats are uncomfortable. I always layer at least 2-3 blankets to sleep on top of, one pillow and use two blankets if it’s colder. It also takes a bit getting used to. It takes a tad bit longer to adjust to sleeping on floors. Hopes this doesn’t offend anyone.
I don’t think that this comment is offensive at all, I used to sleep on the floor a lot as a child and if it’s done properly it can be a great night (and also children can sleep basically anywhere lol)
I think the problem with the challenge was that she used pillows for her back !!!! That doesn’t equal to sleeping on the floor. Instead it is more uncomfortable because ur body is elevated in so many ways. Just a folded blanket and 2 days to get used to the idea would have done the trick.
I love sleeping on the floor, I have back pain so whenever I sleep on the floor I feel all the pressure being lifted off. I don’t use blankets underneath which I probably should be I find that it’s more comfortable that way
This video is such an accurate depiction of what insomnia is like. Just with the whole I can’t get to sleep. Or I had a terrible sleep. Like every problem was literally scary how accurate it is. Like her body was finding every way to keep her awake.
I slept on the floor for about a year. For really no actual reason... i used to have pretty bad back pains. It completely fixed my back problems and I haven't had back pain since. It's been 3 years.
Angsty Jughead once I sprained my back and I was in excruciating pain. My doctor actually suggested me to replace my comfy mattress with something much thinner (either remove it altogether or sleep on floor). It fixed my back pain. .
I’ve been sleeping on the floor sine I was 8 yrs old I hate beds I think it was so painful and uncomfortable for her because she didn’t put anything under her.
Advice the problem was not the thing you were doing it was the thing you were using the yoga mat is wrong there are other mats for sleeping specifically on the floor
Was thinking that too.. most people I've seen do this sleep at least on a thick rug with a yoga mat over it. This is the first I've seen with someone sleeping just on a yoga mat on hardwood flooring.
It took me a few months sleeping on the floor to stop getting aches in my back and a few days to realise I was using too many pillows that caused neck ache. I've been sleeping on the floor about 10 months and my sleeps are great
Sleeping on the floor is going to suck the first two three days, but after that it'll feel amazing. When we travelled this summer I slept on the floor for like 2,5 weeks and after the first few days my body felt amazing. Like my back problems really improved and my knees weren't as much in pain. It's gotten pretty bad since I started sleeping in my own bed again. Now I have a mattress cover (like a thin ass version of a mattress) and I have a large piece of ply wood under my mattress and it's helping so much honestly
Hi Lucie! I don’t know if you came across the shikibuton when doing your research but its a japanese style mattress and my roommate uses that to sleep on the floor. Its definitely more thicker than a yoga mat and offers a better comfort according to her when sleeping on the floor. Also, for the next challenge, I’d love to see a 5 days of switching jobs with someone at refinery maybe?
I agree with you. Through out the video i feel like screaming and wanting to tell lucy to switch up the yoga mat. Its not enough. I sometimes sleep on the floor but never on a hard surface. I would lay out a duvet on my carpet which is a quiet thick carpet already so even if im not gonna be sleeping on a squishy mattress it still provide comfort against the hard floor. And it does help with backpain i feel like.
I slept on the balcony outside one night in summer and it was so uncomfortable. And there was an earthquake while i was sleeping😒I love my bed so much!!
Nina H we usally have people who stay round so we keep mattresses that cost around 20 or something and when go to people houses they do too. Last summer i went canada and we slept in balcony and there was a bed and they took some matrreses to. You should have tooken a blanket to sleep on top of
This video is so funny. Some asians traditionally sleep on floor with futon. No one thinks they need instructions of doctors. People lay dead body's head north but it's totally unrelated to how well you sleep
For so many years, sleep was issue number one. I slept terrible every single day. Then I move my bed frame the opposite way recently.... and BOOM... I’ve slept like a baby. Granted I still wake up throughout the night, but not nearly as much as before. It’s crazy how your mind works.

I have been sleeping on the floor for 3 months because i wanted to correct my posture and it worked! Now i am sitting and walking straight and my shoulders are in the same line. I think you didn't slept on the floor right. You should sleep on the yoga matt or i sleep on blanked and you should but second pillow under your knees i personally dont do that because i dont need to. All in all when i started sleeping on tje floor my sleeping quality and posture improved
I think you should have used something like a futon instead of the yoga mat. In Japan a lot of people sleep on the floor and generally in Asia people sleep on hard surfaces. I think the back pillows and made your sleep worse same goes for those pillows, they were too high that's why I think it didn't work out for you😅
Sabrina Henning yeah! Im surprised she didn't do more research to find a better solution or interviewed anyone who comes from a floor sleeping culture. She's just grumpy this whole video 😅
I think it's great that even though your body was not happy with this challenge, you still stuck it out and saw it through. Personally I just started sleeping on the floor as an experiment, because I have always had a bad back, and so far so good! I'm on night #4, and I've been feeling great when I wake up in the morning. It seems to me that a lot of people who sleep on the floor are trying to fix some sort of pain in their body that just won't go away no matter what kind of bed they sleep on. But I think if you are the type of person who feels limber and rested after sleeping in a bed, then it makes sense to go with the mantra, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it.'
Sleeping on the floor doesn’t mean like bare wood floor. That’s painful. Usually people have 1-3 inch foam or futon to avoid waking up sore but still get the firmness of the floor. Sleeping on my futon has been amazing this past year 🥰
Aw man! I’m sorry it didn’t work out. 😢 How about 5 days of being immersed in a new culture where you try to speak their language? Such as living with a host family that doesn’t speak English and trying to figure it out!
I was forced to sleep on the floor for 2 months because of a move that left me with 2 blankets and 4 pillows. With several severe back, neck, and hip issues, i thought it'd be hell. I learned this: Don't sleep directly on the floor if you want to not feel that circulation crushing stuff. Position a thicker mattress cover or some flat pillows, just something to create a small cushion (if you can't afford a proper floor mattress cause ive looked into them and nice ones can be expensive-) to sleep properly. Was amazing, I've been on a bed again and my issues have actually worsened since. They were still present when I was on the floor, but it helped a lot with keeping things in place and actually made it so i could stand for longer periods and i wasn't in as much pain when i walked around. (sad face, its to the point now floor sleeping ended up making it even worse, but it helped at the time!)
@@StephanieKlotzMorningCleanse Well, that's helpful information but I dunno I quite like wearing a bra, sometimes I won't wear one but I dunno, that's just me lol 😂
SingTalkLaughLi -Lize Futcher- I personally have a larger size and I wear a mix of sports bras and regular, underwire bras. I find that both are relatively uncomfortable as well as make me self conscious, so whenever I’m home I definitely go bra less and sleep with no bra. I’m not super huge like maybe some people are, but I only find sleeping without a bra uncomfortable in certain positions. You should look into a memory pad for your bed! I got one for my old mattress since I could feel the springs. I thought it would only improve how soft my bed was, but it actually gave me more padding to really relax without a bra on. After a while of not wearing one to bed, you get used to it as well. I haven’t worn a bra to bed in years, only under certain circumstances, but I recommend you to try it for at least a week. Try it! 😂
Well, sleeping on the floor but sleeping on a pillow is not really sleeping on the floor! But it's nice to have the perspective of someone who didn't enjoy it!! Thanks for putting yourself through this for us.
I love sleeping on the floor. I live with hardwood floors, and when I have a nasty cold, I find that i sleep a lot better and heal quicker when I sleep on the floor.
5 days without winter outerwear/jacket would be really interesting, especially since you live in NYC! So many people don’t have coats for the winter, so it would put a spotlight on the importance of donating jackets!! Like so she sees this!
Mara Hyman not wearing outerwear in new york is literally setting her up for pneumonia, it’s just reckless and senseless. They can make a video about donating clothing without risking getting seriously sick
I sleep on the floor like a few nights a month typically. And i have to say, from experience, a yoga mat is like the most uncomfortable thing to sleep on. Just a simple 10€ camping roll, like that cheap foam stuff, is way better and keeps you warm better. If at all possible i take a wool blanket, fold it doubled and put a sheet on it. Wool is breathable and warm. It’s the best. Other than that a normal blanket and loads of pillows to prop up body parts when needed, is the best setup for floor sleeping. Once when i got suuuuper cold during the winter i draped a space blanket on top of me, and held it in place with a fleece throw blanket. I was sweaty, but very warm.
Yoga mat seems the problem, I switched to floor 4 days ago, that’s why I came across your video, the rubbery yoga mat might be irritating, i sleep on a blanket and it’s got better after 2 days and so refreshing
We've done 3 days of sleeping on the floor (with a sleeping bag as a cushion) to see if it would help our back. I've noticed no change in my back pain or stiffness, but my sleep quality is down the toilet.
Lucie, I love how in tune with yourself you are. You will often say things like, ‘I just felt like I was ________, so I __________”. I would love for a video on how in tune you are.
I have bad back pain so I was told by a doctor to sleep with pillow between my legs to help take the pressure off my lower back and hips. But am constantly trying new things to reduce pain.
I like this one! That is very cool! One problem (not to be rude AT ALL) it would be pretty hard to not see a mirror all day.. for example: Bathrooms, some buildings have mirrors, and computers have reflections! Other wise I REALLY like this one! I think Lucie should do this!
Do you guys have weird sleeping habits? Comment below!
Can Lucie do 5 days of dressing up like a kpop star

Obviously you've never gone camping if you can't handle sleeping on the floor. Maybe you should try 5 days of camping next!
Mally Flower haha love that idea!
Yeah but sleeping on the ground outside is totally different than a hard floor inside I've done both but I am surprised she didn't try to use a sleeping bag since they got some padding to them!
It depends where you're camping. For example, camping in Vermont, the ground is very, very hard and sometimes rocky.
I'm surprised she didn't buy an asian sleeping/floor mat since sleeping on the floor is ridiculously popular in asian cultures.
Mally Flower I concur with this. OR for a big challenge, 5 days on a backpacking trip!
It also takes a bit getting used to. It takes a tad bit longer to adjust to sleeping on floors. Hopes this doesn’t offend anyone.
P.S - I understand that sleeping on floors is not for everyone so, I understand why Lucie may not have found this comfortable.
I don’t think that this comment is offensive at all, I used to sleep on the floor a lot as a child and if it’s done properly it can be a great night (and also children can sleep basically anywhere lol)

Yeah this woman is crazy so facing north what caused her all the misery and back pain not the yoga mat and the stupid "body pillow"
my mom always sleeps on the floor when her back hurts! That's what helps her
Berta axo oh man I wish it worked for me!!
I commented that before watching the vid fully, im sorry this was horrible for you!
Same.
My mom does the same thing
My dad does too
I think it's great that even though your body was not happy with this challenge, you still stuck it out and saw it through.
How about 5 days of doing someone else's job that is different than Refinery29.
creations landscape designs there's another series dedicated to that
Its me oh yes Lucy for hire
creations landscape designs she has a series about this called Lucie for hire. Look it up it is also great!!
5 days of essential oils!!
How about 5 days of being immersed in a new culture where you try to speak their language? Such as living with a host family that doesn’t speak English and trying to figure it out!
5 days of New Languages
5 days of not wearing a bra!! :))))
Michelle Tripetsky, I don't know if your girl but women have to use bras!!!
I have done that one... how about 5 years... no bra... better life...lol
Truthfully it takes time to build up muscles. It use to hurt me at first but now I can run around with no problem.

Well, that's helpful information but I dunno
I quite like wearing a bra, sometimes I won't wear one but I dunno, that's just me lol 😂
Try it! 😂
5 days of different kinds of massages ;)
Well, sleeping on the floor but sleeping on a pillow is not really sleeping on the floor! But it's nice to have the perspective of someone who didn't enjoy it!! Thanks for putting yourself through this for us.
5 days of facing fashion fears
Thumbs up if you think Lucie should switch daily routines with her sister
Lucy Bryson she has switched morning routines with her sister
Oh thanks
Already has
I love sleeping on the floor. I live with hardwood floors, and when I have a nasty cold, I find that i sleep a lot better and heal quicker when I sleep on the floor.
Can you do 2 weeks of Korean skincare
5 days without winter outerwear/jacket would be really interesting, especially since you live in NYC! So many people don’t have coats for the winter, so it would put a spotlight on the importance of donating jackets!! Like so she sees this!
Mara Hyman not wearing outerwear in new york is literally setting her up for pneumonia, it’s just reckless and senseless. They can make a video about donating clothing without risking getting seriously sick
OMGGGGGG NOOOOOO THATS LITERALLY ASKING FOR DEATH
It’s easy for me to sleep on the floor. My house is carpet and I have this foam pad thing and I fold it and it’s so soft and comfortable☺️
5 days of no dairy!!
yaaaas
Yoga mat seems the problem, I switched to floor 4 days ago, that’s why I came across your video, the rubbery yoga mat might be irritating, i sleep on a blanket and it’s got better after 2 days and so refreshing
Poor Lucy 😢I‘ve never seen you so sad and tired 🙈
+julia. RIGHT?! :0
5 days of touring New York City!!!
+rawproductions Here you go! ruclips.net/video/CuVuqKyISR4/видео.html
Oh my gosh! Thanks!
We've done 3 days of sleeping on the floor (with a sleeping bag as a cushion) to see if it would help our back. I've noticed no change in my back pain or stiffness, but my sleep quality is down the toilet.
5 days of no mirror
Unicorn that's brilliant
5 days of eating at fast food places for breakfast lunch and dinner everyday different places
Lucie, I love how in tune with yourself you are. You will often say things like, ‘I just felt like I was ________, so I __________”. I would love for a video on how in tune you are.
Can you do 5 days of skipping work
ZING3RNINJA murray technically no because this is her work so making a video would be working
Keira W uhm i didnt mean skip youtube but her actual work where she works for 5 days
5 days of spas
sarah martin that’s expensive
I have bad back pain so I was told by a doctor to sleep with pillow between my legs to help take the pressure off my lower back and hips. But am constantly trying new things to reduce pain.
5 days without a mirror!
Edit: I know it won’t help with anything but I think it would be really cool and funny!
I like this one! That is very cool! One problem (not to be rude AT ALL) it would be pretty hard to not see a mirror all day.. for example: Bathrooms, some buildings have mirrors, and computers have reflections! Other wise I REALLY like this one! I think Lucie should do this!
Celina Cookson that is true! :) I just thought it was a fun idea
And it is! I think if lucie were to do this challenge she would figure something out!
Also viewfinder on the camera
Well our dreams Came true with the new vid LOL!
Five days of reading?
i've sleep on the floor for about a year and I feel it more comfortable than bed, so think i will keep on sleeping on floor...forever^^
