I loved the segment where you talked about sustainability and our problem with fast fashion and how it contributes to the poor working conditions of workers that make those clothes. It's a great and super important point to bring up and I'm glad you mentioned it. I love this series 💜
Your capsule wardrobe should include bright colors; it's part of your personality. Capsule doesn't have to be dull and basic, it just means pieces that play well together.
I really like how you talked about the sustainability of second hand clothing and keeping staple items rather than having a ton of cheap items made by people in poor working conditions. Bravo! We could all benefit from cleaning out our closets and having less stuff in the consumer saturated culture we live in. I totally get how the basics leave you a bit uninspired as I am also a lover of bright colors. I was thinking why does the wardrobe have to be all basics, but I guess it’s because the colors stand out so much and makes it more obvious your wearing the same items in different iterations? Maybe the compromise is to have a slightly larger selection, but keep the wardrobe paired down as much as possible. It’s a great challenge to help train your brain to maximize the items you have, and getting rid of what you don’t need. Thank you!
I really love how honest you are : "but lets see if my friends even notice, that I put my shirt on backward" next scene "ok, so yesterday, all of my friends noticed. But i tried" - had a really good laugh on this! Please keep this honesty - it makes you so authentic :))
I capsuled my wardrobe about 3 years ago--and it is life changing! I love all my clothes, don't shop often, and when I do I can afford really nice pieces that I love and will love for years to come.
To be honest, this has really changed my way of thinking. I'm guilty of buying tons of things and staring at my closet and thinking, "I'm too fat for that," or "I have nothing to wear." I spend so much on fast fashion, and this video is gonna be the reason I stop; it's unhealthy for me as an addiction to wanting to buy this and that, and I think it's best I find things that work for me in multiple ways, not just "I can only wear this shirt if I wear these pants." God bless ya Lucie and Refinery29! :p
Thank you for talking about sustainability and some of the ethical problems of fast fashion! As a millenial feminist woman these topics really matter to me and it's great to see someone with such a large following adress these issues! Plus your sense of style is awesome :) x
Hi Lucie. Thank you for another inspiring, well thought-out and well-executed video. I have a request: Could you do a review on what you've stuck to after the challenges and what you've not incorporated into your life? Thanks for considering, cheers.
This is a good one because I had never heard of it before. It was good to see Channing. I own a lot of clothes but I only wear about the same 15-20 items. I haven't been to a mall or purchased clothes /shoes in years. Capsule wardrobe is definitely something for me.
Wearing 1950s or 1960s or 1970s clothes for five days. Wearing only second hand for five days. Five days of eating only one type of food (sushi for example), five days of going to sleep at 9 pm, five days of ride biking rollerskating going to work, five days of being a mom (use a crying doll which wakes you in the night) . If you use this pls send me some dollars i need money. I have 0 till end of the month. Challenge: surviving with O dollars till end of the month with the food I have. (Beans, flour, noodles, rice and whatever is in the fridge. I tried selling some of the stuffs I have in the house to get money with no success. Neither a part time job hunt was successful.
I loved this one! I've been slowly pairing down my wardrobe into a capsule, and as someone who used to buy a new article of clothing (if not multiple) every weekend, this new lifestyle is FANTASTIC. I only own clothes I love and I feel a confidence boost with every outfit. Not to mention none of my friends have noticed that I've been wearing the same clothing again and again! Most are surprised to learn I operate with only 33 items of clothing! Thank you SO MUCH for talking about the harmfulness of fast fashion. Loved this video, and love Lucie!
I'm definitely a capsule wardrobe person now. I never thought I would be, growing up in NYC and being into fashion. But now I live in Texas and bought a house so fashion as it was for me is no longer. I have a winter and summer/spring uniform and it gets me out the door quickly. I've gotten rid of anything even mildly uncomfortable from shoes to clothes and even bras. I buy a lot of black and neutrals, but have a few printed or colorful items too. Accessories are my go to for spicing things up and work well for my busy schedule. I stopped buying fast fashion 10 years ago and now have a closet of things that all work well together and never go out of style!😍🤗
Lucie maybe you could try 5 days of Ramadan? That would be fasting from sunrise to sunset and since Ramadan is just around the corner, it might be a great learning experience for you and non Muslims
Yes, I've been using this for 2months now. Because my dorm has little space so I have to bring staple clothes that are versatile. And so far my friends didn't notice that I've been repeating my clothes every week. Its a matter of creativity. You can do this, if your pieces is up to 10 and from there you do this the whole month. From monday to thursday mix and match your basic pieces and wear something more printed on Friday. That really works 😀
I love how creative you always are! I started bullet journaling because of watching your video, and not that i want to start a capsule wardrobe, but i definitely find it interesting! Keep up the good work Lucie (and r29!!) ❤️
I'm obsessed with capsule wardrobes! Mine is: Tops 1 cotton button down shirt 1 satin button down shirt 1 floral print blouse 1 black and white striped t shirt 1 pullover sweater 1 jacket/blazer 1 winter coat (I live in Canada) Bottoms 1 pair of dress pants 1 pair of jeans 1 maxi skirt Shoes 1 pair of boots 1 pair of sandals 1 pair of oxfords 1 pair of sneakers Accessories 1 winter hat 1 straw summer hat 1 pair of winter gloves 1 scarf 1 backpack/purse- found it on amazon it has the straps of a backpack as well as a purse strap so it can be dressed up a bit- it also has many pockets for whatever I need when I'm on the go like a pocket for my water bottle and sunscreen Only a few real gold pieces of jewellery I'm also into everything in my wardrobe being neutral colored (black, white, navy, brown etc) with pops of warm colors like burgungies, oranges and pinks with brown accessories
LOVE your 5 day videos Lucy! You're a doll! I am in the beginning stages of my capsule wardrobe. Still have a ways to go but already feel the benefits!
One thing I'm proud of is my wardrobe, i feel like I wear most if not everything so I probably wouldn't try a capsule wardrobe but I LOVE looking at other people who do for inspiration on new ways to wear my clothes!
I basically live in like these 7 dresses i switch out throughout the week and not touch any on my other clothes. i need to try this and hopefully get more mileage in my clothing! Thanks for the inspo Lucy!
I’ve had a capsule wardrobe for a while and it’s easier to be colorful if you pick a color scheme for your wardrobe. An easy tip for a cohesive wardrobe is picking 4 neutral colors and 3 pops of color. For me I have black, white, tan and dark green and for my color I have red, light blue and mustard. Everything in my wardrobe goes with everything else and it’s awesome.
Capsule wardrobes are awesome. I really really recommend trying one out for longer than 5 days. Give yourself a month, or even an entire season and just see how it works for you! A lot like a diet, it's gonna be hard to see the results in just a week :)
I agree with you completely, not a capsule wardrobe person myself. I love getting creative and stay aware of sustainability (use vintage, re-make clothes, buy second hand -especially if it's leather, donate, re-sell, buy pieces that last nearly a lifetime) But 10, 15 or 20 pieces isn't any near to what I need living in a climate with cold winters, hot summers and having different profile jobs that require different outfits. This spring I refreshed my wardrobe by selling and buying clothes on eBay. Cost me nothing and completely sustainable. Well done for the challenge. Keep up the good work. 👍🏼
I looooove my capsule wardrobe! I do have a basic color of white, but everything else is color color color! I'm a type 1--I don't wear black and never will again. Capsule wardrobes can be as colorful as you want them to be! I have about 32 total items (with shoes) and I always look fab, colorful, friendly and cute! ^.^ Definitely worth a try
Not a capsule wardrobe follower but I loved what you did. I feel the same way you do, I love my clothes and I get mileage from it so I'll enjoy my wardrobe, but it's nice to watch this video to remind myself I can stop buying clothes and be creative with what I already have.
I have a capsule wardrobe. I also loveee color and "statement" pieces..... so, I just include them! It has made me more willing to mix and match patterns. I love it.
Thank you for introducing me to Capsule wardrobe... I really like the concept of it and am really interested into it.. I feel this is an awesome way for students like me at college to manage our closet space and go creative... Your explanations were really easy to understand and the way u broke the things down was interesting... Thank you once again and I wud like to try this for a week like u did as an expt....
This is so me ,I love the minimalism the simplicity and buying second handed I started learning about this lifestyle back in 2k16 but today is my official day of being capsule minimalist
5 days of living a sustainable lifestyle 😍 Loved this one Lucy! I paired down my clothes and helped me so much to define my personal style. The best part is that having my wardrobe paired down to only clothing I love, it has made me rethink my purchases. First it has really makes me feel unique ✨ and second it has to give the people behind my clothes a liveable wage! Thanks for keeping to inspire more people! You‘re a star 💫💕
🌀An easy way to add spice to a capsule wardrobe: have multiple prints/patterns in a similar family (stripes, polkadots, plaid etc). Definitely avoiding fast fashion after watching the film: True Cost 📺✔️
Love these videos! Not a criticism, but a lot of the subject matter and challenges are orientated to a western lifestyle- maybe an idea for a video would be to look at lives of women from around the world! Thank you R29 for making these videos; its great how they broaden horizons.
This video inspired me to start a capsule wardrobe. mine is clearly not this small, but I loooooove the simplicity in getting dressed. My wardrobe only consists of 3 colors, but I got quality clothes and I have received more compliments on my wardrobe than I ever have in my life. No one notices that I repeat outfits (not one person has mentioned) and I do much less emotional shopping now
I love capsule wardrobes, and I actually have my clothes set up in this way as well. Living abroad, it makes traveling so much easier and takes a lot of the guess-work('will this look good?' or 'do these match?') out of getting dressed.
I do a capsule wardrobe, but just for work. I am a teacher, and I rotate my capsule every three months, so I have a different wardrobe for fall, winter, and spring. Some pieces do end up in all three capsules, but I like changing it up so I don't get as bored.
I loved this! I just recently did this, but I didn't know other people did it. I did it because I had a lot of clothes that I really didn't wear and I was tired of my closet being full. It was easy for me, but I wear a lot of neutral colors and classic pieces and my accessories are the colorful ones. But one tip for you Lucie, as you wear a lot of colorful clothes. Maybe you can keep classic pieces for the bottom (jeans, skirts, etc.) and just have fun with the top, I think this would work much better for you.
Lucie!! please do 5 days of waking up at 5am. it is said to be reaaalllyyy beneficial to your mental well bieng, metabolism and mostly your productivity for the day. i started doing it last week and the impact really hits you from day one!
I've always been a capsule wardrobe person I would buy ten pieces of clothing or less And wear the clothes for at least three years It freed my mind and refreshed it I always felt good and thankful
Yes yes yes! 👍🏼👏🏼🤩great ideas on how to make the same piece of clothing look different! I’ve had a capsule wardrobe for about 2 years now and love it! Thanks for the video!
I love mine - but I could never get it to work when I worked in an office but now that I’m home with my toddler it’s amazing - most importantly, it changes how I shop, I only buy things that I know I will love and that I know will last.
Great video! I always love seeing your take on concepts and you seem to take something away from each challenge. I stumbled upon the capsule wardrobe idea sometime within the past 2 years when I was discovering minimalism and loved the concept. I'm one of those dress-in-all-black people already, so I actually challenged myself to add in some grey (and maybe even white, which I dreaded!), plus pick 2 colors (burgundy and army green) and work with those to be able to actually create outfits (instead of jeans, tee, necklace, hoodie). It's made shopping much easier - if it's not greyscale, dark red, or dark green, I don't give it a second glance. And it's made me a lot better at layering. And I've focused more on accessories - chunky scarves, hats, layered necklaces. It's made me more adventerous in my outfit choices, and I've tricked a few people in to thinking I"m actually stylish, haha!
I love a capsule wardrobe! There's lots of ways of doing it. If you did this again you can plan your capsule with complementary colours so that you can wear more bright clothing with some well chosen neutrals. With a bit of planning you can stave off the boredom factor. Also it's great for packing for a trip. Everything works together. Fast fashion is so wasteful and a drain on lots of resources, not to mention poor working conditions. Thanks for highlighting this aspect.
✨I Love weaving all black basics & add flair with unique vests & cardigans. Thrifting is a fun way to have a cool wardrobe (saves cash & the environment) 🌎💰
I fell in love with a capsule wardrobe when it became about LOVING every item in my closet rather than being okay with most of it. I started searching for investment and classic pieces that fit me beautifully and stopped shopping randomly as much. I'm a neutral pallet person, so it made a lot of sense for me anyway, but loving my clothing was a huge part of it.
This was so sooo good! Thank you!!! P.s. The capsule wardrobe has changed my life! I now feel so confident & in control when it comes to shopping, dressing in the morning and my style in general!
I love capsule wardrobes. I usually wear the same thing over and over for the past couple of years. Usually my leggings get their wears (chubby thighs). I always hand wash my clothes for sustaining the longevity of my clothes!!!
Loved this! I don't do capsule wardrobe, but I like to clean my closed once in maybe 2 months. And I buy rarely, from trifted to high quality to expensive, having in mind that it suits more than one occation 😊 good reminder to do a clean up 😎
Great video. I have a very paired down wardrobe which has made choosing outfits so much quicker and easier. It has also helped me save a lot of money which meant I could finally take the trip to Europe I always wanted. However on my trip around Europe I traveled only carry on which meant I did have a travel capsule wardrobe. I like the ease of the wardrobe and will do it again next time I travel but found the constant washing tiring at times so half way through the trip I bought 2 extra tank tops, two fast drying shorts and a colourful scarf. This made a huge impact both washing wise and style wise. Loved the whole experience and learned that I spent way too much time and money on clothes before. Now all that time and money can go into travel instead!
I'm glad you did this challenge Lucy. There are so many tips out there that I'm too confused to start, which is ironical, considering the objective of a capsule wardrobe. I really liked the tied up shirt idea, you can move the shirt tie to one side of your hip to give it a more skirty look, especially since your shirt is asymmetrical.
I'm going to Paris during spring break and your challenge is so perfect! I always overpack and love all the bright statement pieces so a capsule wardrobe (or suitcase) is exactly what I need.
Love having a capsule & it makes it really easy to travel, but I totally get the “sometimes it gets boring” feeling. Especially in the winter when longsleves and jeans are all the rage, it sometimes feels a bit limiting wearing the same top & jeans combo
I love the concept of a capsule wardrobe and yours was great! I especially loved the bright red coat, rose gold boots, and LBD. I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors for work and then more colorful pieces for the gym.
I personally wear a capsule wardrobe. It saves me money and time. I feel great in everything I own, so it lets my confidence shine instead of my clothing.
This is really cool.I only saw this video today but had a similar idea a little over a week ago. Recently I went through my closet and condenced my husband and my hanging wardrobe down to less than 1/4 what we had to begin with. We are pretty much jeans and tshirts people. I only have 3 pairs of jeans and he has 2 plus I have 2 pairs of leggings. He often wears shorts so he has about 5 pairs of those. My son will wear the same jeans for 2 days and just change his tshirt. Not only does it free up our closet space, it limits the amount of loads we wash in a week. I know it sounds contadictory to having a small amount of clothes but if you wear a peice more than once before washing, you really do save on laundry. I am finding that I really enjoy your videos.
I love having one! But I do choose to have more items, around 20-30, but I don't have a set amount. This does not include shoes, accessories or outer wear, I don't have much of it anyways. Just make sure everything go together. It is also important to have both texture, patterns and basics in all colours you wear, so you don't get bored. (see Justine Leconte capsule wardrobe guide). Personally, I want to have enough outfits for two weeks, maybe 3, so I don't have to wash as often, and have a larger variety of clothes to mix.
Lucie I love ur videos. I litterly watched all of ur videos last night so it's so ironic that you just put out a new video! Keep up with the great videos!!
Lucy's ideas were great, but as a capsule wardrobe lover I must say that if you have a staple color other than black you can definitely use that as a lead. My capsule wardrobe is burgundy and navy for instance... you just need to work around the pairings. I wish she could try it again with her lovely colorful pieces.
Would you ever try a capsule wardrobe? Comment below!
Refinery29 yes
Refinery29 it seems pretty cool, Lucie should do 5 days of not washing her body it would be gross but fun. Love you
Refinery29 hi
+imaninassemrosa Hello! :)
she should do 5 days of trying something new
I loved the segment where you talked about sustainability and our problem with fast fashion and how it contributes to the poor working conditions of workers that make those clothes. It's a great and super important point to bring up and I'm glad you mentioned it. I love this series 💜
Your capsule wardrobe should include bright colors; it's part of your personality. Capsule doesn't have to be dull and basic, it just means pieces that play well together.
I had to do this with my capsule wardrobe too! Especially since i hardly wear any black!
Too true but it's more so u have actual clothing for formal and nonfornal things withing a certain limit
I really like how you talked about the sustainability of second hand clothing and keeping staple items rather than having a ton of cheap items made by people in poor working conditions. Bravo! Lindsey Davis or just look for awesome pieces for cheap either second hand stores or even using Poshmark
I really love how honest you are : "but lets see if my friends even notice, that I put my shirt on backward" next scene "ok, so yesterday, all of my friends noticed. But i tried" - had a really good laugh on this! Please keep this honesty - it makes you so authentic :))

Yay, love how you embrace recycled fashion. We waste way too much these days.
Ngapera McMath i totally agree

Plus your sense of style is awesome :) x
totally agree!
I've been considering a capsule wardrobe and this video helped me realize that I should try doing a tril run before completely committing! Loved it!!!
do it Amanda!! It changes your mind abut clothes. And when you go to clean out your clothes try the Konmari method.
5 days of not looking at the time
Haltom Pain and Injury
That is such a good idea!!!!!!!!
I try doing that at school and it actually passes time in my opinion
What if she has a meeting
Like this if your whole wardrobe is basically a capsule wardrobe because you wear the same stuff all the time 😂
Mara Hyman same😂
oof
Same
Mara Hyman r
I highly recommend capsule wardrobes, been enjoying mine for a few years now and don't plan on going back to the old way any time soon
Mbeepy it's the best! Been doing capsule wardrobe for the last 16 years - minimalist and so freeing.

Hi Lucie. Thank you for another inspiring, well thought-out and well-executed video. I have a request: Could you do a review on what you've stuck to after the challenges and what you've not incorporated into your life? Thanks for considering, cheers.
Bee Kay good idea!!!
Loved all your outfits!😁
Yes I love the idea of reviewing after your challenges!! Totally should do that!!
Yes! I would love to know that too!

5 days of only eating lunchables!!
5 days being a nanny!

How about 5 days of wearing heavy hair extensions all day long?!
Adeen R. Ouhh good idea
Why would she want to do that lol

I love capsule wardrobes, and I actually have my clothes set up in this way as well. Living abroad, it makes traveling so much easier and takes a lot of the guess-work('will this look good?' or 'do these match?') out of getting dressed.
Omg!! I've been trying to convert to a capsule wardrobe. This is great 😍
I do a capsule wardrobe, but just for work. I am a teacher, and I rotate my capsule every three months, so I have a different wardrobe for fall, winter, and spring. Some pieces do end up in all three capsules, but I like changing it up so I don't get as bored.
I love that you took your staple clothes and made them into your own style !!!
Hi Lucie! I love these types of videos, they are so creative! Thank you for making my day brilliant!
Lucie!! please do 5 days of waking up at 5am. it is said to be reaaalllyyy beneficial to your mental well bieng, metabolism and mostly your productivity for the day. i started doing it last week and the impact really hits you from day one!
This just inspired me to do a bit of a closet purge, so thank you so much
I've always been a capsule wardrobe person
I would buy ten pieces of clothing or less
And wear the clothes for at least three years
It freed my mind and refreshed it
I always felt good and thankful
Your hair looks so cute in this vlog! Glad you did this I've been really interested in the capsule wardrobe for a while now :)
HELLO
Emma J hello name twin!
Haha
Yes yes yes! 👍🏼👏🏼🤩great ideas on how to make the same piece of clothing look different! I’ve had a capsule wardrobe for about 2 years now and love it! Thanks for the video!
Obsessed with this series
I love mine - but I could never get it to work when I worked in an office but now that I’m home with my toddler it’s amazing - most importantly, it changes how I shop, I only buy things that I know I will love and that I know will last.
I'm pretty sure I have at least 100 items of clothes in my closet, I neeeed this!
+emilydenny Thanks for sticking with us! :)
I was thinking to myself earlier, There hasnt been a try living with lucy in a while. What a coincidence
+butanoverture Thanks for watching!
Thank you for mentioning ethical/sustainable fashion!!
wow, I've never heard about having a capsule wardrobe but found this to be super helpful on decluttering my closet...while also staying stylish too!
Hi Lucy, I love your videos! You've insprired me to try new things everyday- thanks for making me smile :)
✨I Love weaving all black basics & add flair with unique vests & cardigans.
Thrifting is a fun way to have a cool wardrobe (saves cash & the environment) 🌎💰
Hey there 😄 love this series, it's awesome! Could you do five days of indoor gardening? Thanks 👍
+rebeccalea Stay tuned! ;)
Refinery29 omg thanks for replying, so excited 😊
I fell in love with a capsule wardrobe when it became about LOVING every item in my closet rather than being okay with most of it. I started searching for investment and classic pieces that fit me beautifully and stopped shopping randomly as much. I'm a neutral pallet person, so it made a lot of sense for me anyway, but loving my clothing was a huge part of it.
This was so sooo good! Thank you!!! P.s. The capsule wardrobe has changed my life! I now feel so confident & in control when it comes to shopping, dressing in the morning and my style in general!
+zanezzz That's amazing! Thanks for watching!
I love capsule wardrobes. I usually wear the same thing over and over for the past couple of years. Usually my leggings get their wears (chubby thighs). I always hand wash my clothes for sustaining the longevity of my clothes!!!
This is the best series ever ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loved this! I don't do capsule wardrobe, but I like to clean my closed once in maybe 2 months. And I buy rarely, from trifted to high quality to expensive, having in mind that it suits more than one occation 😊 good reminder to do a clean up 😎
love the mix n match! so creative and cute at the same time
Great video.
Would love to try a capsule wardrobe! You did so well Lucy!
Loved loved loved this video. Perfect mix of fun and useful and inspirational but not with a "I'm giving you a lesson" tone :)
My grandma has been saying this for years and is the inspiration behind my classic wardrobe
LUCIE PLSSSSSS try 5 days of dressing like a kpop star
I'm going to Paris during spring break and your challenge is so perfect! I always overpack and love all the bright statement pieces so a capsule wardrobe (or suitcase) is exactly what I need.
I love your outfit and hair today
Love having a capsule & it makes it really easy to travel, but I totally get the “sometimes it gets boring” feeling. Especially in the winter when longsleves and jeans are all the rage, it sometimes feels a bit limiting wearing the same top & jeans combo
do 5 days of "the life changing magic of tidying up"
I love the concept of a capsule wardrobe and yours was great! I especially loved the bright red coat, rose gold boots, and LBD. I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors for work and then more colorful pieces for the gym.
Do 5 days of only using lush products (bath bombs, salts, creams)
I personally wear a capsule wardrobe. It saves me money and time. I feel great in everything I own, so it lets my confidence shine instead of my clothing.
5 days of ice skating, for the Winter Olympics
Like this! Maybe 5 days of training/eating like a professional athlete?
Love this video
You did a GREAT job summing every aspect of the capsule wardrobe up, really, well done!
NOT AT ALL.... hahahahaha i just cant ,,, love your video as always Lucie .. Xx

Ashley Love Yes
I'd love to do this.
Capsule wardrobes make it so much easier to travel. My last trip I was able to pack for over a week in a backpack.
Best series ever
Love the way you put it as for those not getting mileage out of their clothing...YES! No longer guilting myself with this.
