    FAQ's:
    Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. What's wrong?
    A: If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.
    Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
    A: I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
    Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
    A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
    Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
    A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
    Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
    A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

    I thought of opening my space key to clean it since it was a bit sticky. Read somewhere that you just have to pry it open with a screwdriver. Turns out I pried open the plastic thingy too and heard a snap. The space key was now tiled at 40° not opening not closing. I watched your video, and found out the flimsy bit of plastic hadn't broken, and in a few minutes I was saved from a trip to the computer store. Going to turn my laptop back on and hopefully the key at least works and doesn't stick.

    Thank you for the awesome video! :) In my case, my Dell inspiron laptop (newer model ) has the retainer clip attached underneath the ctrl key. After reattaching the ctrl key, it snapped back in (as far as I can tell) and I'm pretty sure it won't come off, however the key sort of dangles and is not completely snapped back in like how it originally was...do you know why this could be? Thank you!

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  Год назад

      If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

      @@PC_Monkey Hello again I was wondering if you could help me please. I spilled a half glass of port which is a very sweet wine on the keyboard of my dell lap top and wiped it off very quickly. Yesterday 3 days after the event i took the keys off like your video showed me and cleaned the inside of the keys because the computer just would not work. The battery will not work now and through the mains lead i can boot up the computer and can just about access stored info and use you tube but the keys just will no longer work. I suspect i may have terminally affected the computer can you suggest anything that may help? Thank you

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 года назад

      @@ricdavid7476 Yes, spilling liquid on a computer can, in most cases, damage multiple components. Least of all the motherboard :( You said the computer will not work and the battery will not work. Are there any signs of life at all when you try to turn it on? Lights? Fan, Motherboard, or Hard Drive sounds? Anything seen on the screen?

    • @ricdavid7476
      @ricdavid7476 2 года назад

      @@PC_Monkey Hi thanks for replying. I am not sure what the motherboard is. i just tried to take the back off the computer took all the screws off but could not open the back up.
      The computer wont let me sign in with the pin number just the fingerprint. The buttons on the keyboard seem completely unusable . When i type nothing appears on the screen at all. There is zero battery and zero fan that i can hear. It seems like something has got corrupted or maybe shorted out. I am pretty much resigned to having to get another computer. If that is the case are there any parts on the computer that could be sold as spares? It is a 6 year old Dell Inspiron i5 5000 8th generation ?
      it is an expensive lesson about not getting smashed near the computer.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 года назад

      @@ricdavid7476 true lol. You would have to look up each part on sites like Ebay, Amazon, etc and see if its worth selling. Usually some parts like the motherboard, CPU (if its detachable) and some others can be worth selling. However if the computer is unusable, you cant really test if the parts are good or not so may run into trouble selling them if the buyer cant get them to work

    The small plastic pieces on mine are broken down into 3 pieces instead of being a single 1. It wouldn't lock into place at all... What I did was glue them together in the right order and it works now but it's a bit too loose for comfort. It's a temporary fix for sure. Is there anything I can do to fix it properly or do I just need to search for parts? 💀

      @@PC_Monkey I don't believe those are hinge clips but I now know how to get them out somewhat carefully by testing on an old broken laptop. However, I don't feel like I should take this shift key off as it may snap and this laptop is a rental. I am unsure of what may be causing the problem underneath the key but it has to be a hardware issue because I have tried all the software fixes to fix my left shift. I have noticed on my laptops that after about a year of owning them the keys start to not respond and then start working by themselves. The same thing has happened on this laptop and on my old laptop when i pulled the troublesome key apart and put it back together it did not fix the issue that has happened to just my left shift key after I pressed down on many keys at the same time on the left side of my keyboard. If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

    For some reason after replacing 3 other keys fine, my enter key now sticks down despite having all the parts replaced and nothing obviously wrong. Every encountered this before?
    The unfortunate thing is I think somehow the contact itself also got messed up simultaneously and even when i press the key down without the keycap on it acts like the key is stuck down, and absolutely noone online has written about repair of the actual contact itself. I still feel though that fixing the seemingly unrelated issue with the key sticking down may do the trick
