Ricky great video. Yesterday I just got back from my first points vacation thanks to stumbling on your site last year. I booked economy to St. Lucia - only 47,000 Aeroplan points return for two people. Also took advantage of the Amex to Marriot transfer bonus last year (which makes one AMEX MR worth 1.5 Marriot points) to redeem 370,000 Marriot points for a 5 day stay at Royalton Hideaway all inclusive where rooms are routinely over $1000 CAD per night. Even more added value - I was upgraded to Diamond status at the resort which gave me a butler, premium drinks, and upgraded room. I do have Marriot gold status through the AMEX platinum card and all I did was do a bit of sweet talking before I arrived (as per your advice). And I used lounges on the way there and back (free drinks and food and upscale areas to hang out - hey can't get better than that). To do all that was $400 in airline ticket taxes and the net fees I have spent on my Platinum card, Cobalt card, TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card (which gets you first checked bag free and preferred cash and points pricing), Marriot cards (which my wife and I both got) which I kid you not is about $600 with all the travel credit hack, annual fee rebates, and occasional dining and other credits offered when you use those cards.
I just got my first points card. I hope my first points redemption vacation is as successful as yours!

So, If I'm understanding this right, you are doing the following:
1) Apply for the card with a plan to meet the minimum spend
2) Meet the minimum spend
3) Transfer the aeroplan points to your aeroplan account
4) Cancel the card
5) Repeat?

I've accumulated nearly 470,915 Aeroplan/Amex points, these videos are a huge help. How and when do I know there are transfer promotions? Redeeming them for 30% - 50% more than the base transfer of 1:1 ratio.

Annual fee for TD Visa Infinite is waived for each year if you have TD All Inclusive Banking Plan. This banking plan has a monthly fee of $ 29.95. This monthly fee is waived if you maintain a minimum balance of 5,000 everyday.
If it’s not too much to ask 😅 could talk about the family sharing aeroplan? I don’t travel as much but I dream to experience a business class trip with family someday.

Do you have a tip on how to easily keep awareness wether a specific card saves me money or actually wastes it, when I am juggling with so many cards all the time?
I signed up for the newsletter. Is it useful for people south of the Canadian border? I'm still in the early stages of signing up for airline mile credit cards. I don't have any plans to travel in the next 2-3 years, and i think most of the perks received from the higher pay annual fee cards are only worth it if you travel. For now i'm just trying to max out my 5% cashbacks with some planning and a little bit of manufactured spending.
my problem with amex is not a lot of restaurant accept it... for example, in Richmond BC ...
Is it stated income in Canada for the income requirement for certain credit cards? Or do all banks ask for Docs?
Hello from YVR!!! Am actually travelling on points, and Bonvoy Elite platinum status for amazing breakfasts at the Westin (AMAZING for families with 2 swimming pools!). Now.... if more airlines would release 4 seats for business class seats on points.... Thank you Turkish and Air Canada, but.....
4 seats is a tough one, which adds to the importance of planning far in advance

How long does it take to have points transferred after I do my minimum spending amount? Additionally, how do I convert those points to Aeroplan points; say if I am using TD Infinite and BMO Acend world elite?
Do points disappear if I cancel a card after earning those points so I don't have to pay the annual fee year after year?
I have scotia bank amex card is that same as cobalt? Can i transfer those points to aeroplan as well?
This is a great video! However, I also wanna say that maybe you should also put a bit of focus on your viewers outside of Canada because a lot of people love your vids while coming from India, Germany China, Russia, etc.

How do I get started in points if I can't get approved for AMEX? I have over 6 months of credit history in Canada but for some reason when I call the AMEX reconsideration line they say the system won't let them approve. I tried all the tips and tricks Ricky suggested. The aeroplan ones seem to need over 1 year of credit history
I am seeing that a lot of these websites are recommending amex, but it's not accepted everywhere. What's the problem with RBC avion?

For all my military people the annual fees on these American Express cards are waived.
Thank you for the Canadian content! The only thing refraining me from starting right now is understanding what we're supposed to do with all these credit cards after spending the points. Are they still useful once we get the welcome bonuses? I remember reading that closing credit cards do impact the credit score. Would love to know if you guys keep paying the annual fees and keep the cards.
As long as you keep your oldest cards active closing cards will not impact your score. Ricky has some videos explaining all the ins and outs of strategies you can use and things to be mindful / careful of.

I was planning on continuing accumulating MR points for some max yolo aspirational travel in some future (got a bunch of welcome bonuses, including the historic high July 2021 Platinum Card bonus and the Gold relaunch waitlist welcome bonus). But turns out I need to fly to London some time late October from Halifax. Got lucky with the last remaining Signature Class seat from Amsterdam to Halifax priced at a little over 64k Aeroplan points. I looked up how much I would have had to pay for the very same package, and the site said over 8k CAD. Transferred 62k MR points from my Amex Gold in a heartbeat just to have enough in my Aeroplan account, and booked it! Now time to figure out a flight from LHR to AMS, and hopefully I can squeeze in the early morning LHR Centurion Lounge experience on top of this...
Lesson of the day: have a plan while being flexible, and if luck presents itself on a silver platter in front of you, don't hesitate to grab! I didn't expect to redeem some of my points this early, but well here I am.

I think I’m too stupid to understand. I have 350,000 amex pts off my cobalt card and want to travel to Venice from YYZ next May. Ticket price is approx $1700 or $3700 in club. How should I go about this? Transferring to aeroplan to use Air Canada does not seem worth it on pts based on my math…?
Even Aeroplan is no longer worth as much now. Inflation has now pushed flight point redemptions to higher point requirements and in some cases even double the amount of points you need for the same flight.

@@aalyanbhanji6496 True. I just read it. It may not easy to spend $ 7500 in the first 12 months using only that card when you have many other top tier cards. 30k aeroplan points is the amount I will be able to get if I apply and get approved.
@@AmadouDiallo-ip1pm Yeah exactly. You can potentially plan around some of your big purchases to try and hit the $7,500 if you’ve already collected some of the larger bonuses that AMEX and TD offer.
Correct, I focused on the first-year component of 30,000 Aeroplan points that's more easily within reach with $1,000 spent in the first three months. Note that the last 20,000 points are only delivered as an anniversary bonus.
Friends of ours, two adults, which started the aeroplan business class flying before us, are saying it’s now an insane amount of points to fly even economy to Europe - they’re flying from the YUL to Italy this summer and it’s 225,000 points in economy for a full round trip (1 of 4 legs are premium economy, rest are economy).
She says they don’t find any of these “business class” sweet spots in your videos and that it’s like 500k points to do a round trip business class now - something that used to be 230k points to Euro 2 zone.
She always helped us book our business class flights on the previous aeroplan system. Now we’re sitting on 7 figures worth of points and wondering if we should even bother continuing the accumulation strategies anymore.
Can anyone explain and help out with this conundrum, PoT videos seem to always say there’s sweet spots that are slightly more than they used to be in the old system for EST zone.
I just booked a one-way flight from Ottawa, Canada to Lisbon, Portugal for this July for about 58,000 points. Lots of the other flights were double the points but we were able to find this one easily so they are definitely still out there. :)
Might have to play around with the dates, but why not fly first class or PE to Dublin, Paris or London and then pay for the flight to Italy?
Inter-Euro flights can be had so cheap, it's at least worth looking into IMO.
@@SilverSamurai12 yeah, we did that under the old plan - an open jaw. Business class to Rome with a stop over in Paris. Return through Venice, layover in Frankfurt and then home. 230k points or something about that round trip.
Hmm, so there are the flights out there I just need to keep looking, thing is they’re very flexible on their dates and times etc, but she insists the program is no longer worth it anymore. They’ve stopped accumulating and moved onto other programs. Sad for aeroplan, high value customers gone.

They’re very flexible to their dates and time, but she’s been saying for months she can’t get business class that’s not closer to 250k points/pp, 500k per couple… just to Europe (previously zone 2).
That’s frustrating. When we plan our next trip, if it’s 500k points for a couple, I’m just going to stop accumulating and call it a day. Move onto the next program with better perks or even cash back.
A couple a months ago there were lots of economy fairs from Ontario to Rome for 65K points round trip per person in July. Booking in advance and flexibility key.

Hey Rickie, I usually travel from Monteal to India via Doha on Qatar airways / Montreal to Delhi on Air Canada. Which credit card would you advise me to start my points journey for business class upgrades and lounge access?
For Qatar, focus on earning British Avios points. Amex transfers 1:1 and RBC Avion points transfer 1:1 as well.
@@abrararifify How about I get the Amex Cobalt Card on which I can earn 5x points on dining and groceries, earn 2500 points per month on 500$ spend plus points earned per dollar adding upto 30000 MR bonus points as signing bonus. These bonus MR points plus earned dollar points I can transfer to Avios/Aeroplan as well on a 1:1 ratio. What do you think

@@akshaydivakar3134 i have been using the cobalt card now for a year. Its the best card ever honestly this one helped achieve some of my points goals and I was able to travel business class in Qatar airways. I also added the RBC avion to my list as well which has a great signup bonus that you can transfer to BA avios and Qatar.

The American Express Cobalt card carries a CA$12.99 monthly fee.
How much points do you earn on an average with the Cobalt card with dining? Is 5x rewards applicable to all restaurants or eligible ones/ we get points on all Uber Eats delivery? Right now we can transfer 1:1 points to Aeroplan/Avios (Qatar & British)

The Cobalt for the earning potential due to the multipliers and only get the gold to flex cuz it’s a “gold” metal card lol (Unless you are American then the Amex gold is better)
Cobalt and its not even close
Right now go gold. The $250 annual fee can be offset with the $100 hotel booking hack (see Ricky's site) and right now it has a 75,000 bonus offer. Within 3 months you can have all those points immediately rather than wait a whole year to get far less points with the Cobalt. Now all that said when one excludes the welcome bonus factor, Cobalt is a better daily spend card to have in your wallet. But right now the Gold card is a no brainer.
Even if you close the card when approaching the 1 year mark, wouldn’t that still damage your relationship with the card issuers since they can see a pattern?
...don't close approaching the 1-year mark, it does look bad... keep your accounts going as long as possible.

@@Full2635 , change the card into a no annual fee one. If it is Amex, get a card with them that you will never close first, and then starting your 2nd amex card, close it during the 13th month and you can still get your annual fee refunded.

Amex isn’t a credit card though
The Gold is now a credit card. Plat is still a charge card on paper, but it now has a pay-over-time feature so you can use it as a credit card if you really want to. Technically you should be using all your “credit” cards like charge cards in order to not accrue interest.
