I had to go to Helsinki, Finland from Toronto, Canada. When looking for flights, I saw Icelandair 7 night lay/stopover option and booked my flight with the extra 7 days. Best part of my trip was Iceland. What an amazing country. I booked some tours to be able to see as much of the country that I could. Thanks for the video.
Wow that is so awesome! Well done 👏 Iceland is a beautiful place! Thanks for the comment & for sharing for others to see the possibilities with this travel hack!
Just a few days ago I flew Turkish air back to the states from Singapore and with a 10 hour layover in Instanbul. Their free tour was awesome and even included 2 free meals. I can only imagine how great a proper stopover with them would be!
I was at a conference in Sweden and did a 7 day stopover in Iceland with Icelandair. It was perfect! Was able to explore the northern area for the first time and hit some places I’d been wanting to see but didn’t have time to on other trips to Iceland.
Thanks for the great info! I've had 10-11 hour layovers in London and Frankfurt. Watched travel videos about taking the trains, etc so was able to thoroughly enjoy the layovers. Stopped by the info desk at Franfurt Airport and was given a free map and advice on how far I dare venture via train with my 10 hours. Ended up taking the train across the Rhine to Mainz and had a beautiful day. Had 11 hours in London so after getting advice from info desk I rode the tube into London. I was advised which Tube stop to take, to see the most in my limited time. Ended up touring the House of Commons at the Parliament and then sitting in the viewing gallery in the House of Commons to watch and listen to them debate an important upcoming vote, saw Westminster Abbey from the outside, the Thames river, then wondered down past 10 Downing, stopped at the Queens Guard's House and watched the daily inspection, went on to Trafalgar Square, walked down their version of Broadway(forget the name) - all free except for the round-trip Tube ticket. Had enough $ to buy a bowl of Potato Leek soup, bread and water which I enjoyed sitting in a window seat in a Cafe, before getting back on the Tube to the airport. You can pack a lot of memories in a layover.
Very interesting and informative video. I will try to use this hack in my future travel this summer. Quick question - how are the checked in luggage managed during the stopover? Do you have to check them out and keep them, or do the airlines take care of them? Any additional fees for that service?
We are doing this with Qatar in Doha and they have told us they will take care of our luggage and to just pack a small bag to take with us onboard and for our stopover. My tip is always check with the airline as each airline may have different procedures
I did the Iceland stopover both ways in 2012 and got 5 days there on what would have been only a week-long trip to The Netherlands. Did not have to pay extra airfare for those 2 stopovers so it was a good deal.
Most of these are in or around Europe are there any in the Asia/Pacific region? Also, is there a good resource for them (aside from a Travel Agent) because I don't see them on Skyscanner, which is my usual go-to?
I will be booking a stopover in Amsterdam on our way to Milan for 2025 using Air France miles. This is all thanks to hearing about this possibility on daily drop!❤
Very Interesting vlog!! Love this layover / stopover hacks! I’m a BA Avios / Amex member and card holder living in the uk and I’m not sure how best to redeem and take full advantage of my Avios! I also have a Flying blue account (Air France UK) what can I do with it to make most of it (no miles I’d open this to transfer my Aeromexico points but didn’t…) Please help Thank you 🙏🏼 Merci Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧
You emphasize "saving money" by changing your flight from a layover to a stopover, but what you're not saying is that you will need to spend money/points for lodging, food and maybe transportation that can add up to be even MORE money spent than just the layover. So financially not really saving money. But if you are intending to add another leg to your "vacay", then utilizing a stopover instead of a layover makes perfect sense.
If you're doing this while going on a vacation (as opposed to going home or a business trip), you still pay all that at your final destination anyway, so you're just swapping destinations. So, say for a 5 day vacation, you'll spend 2 days in Paris & 3 days in London, 5 total. Similar expenses of lodging, food & transportation, but dependant on cost/destination could be more or less. Plus maybe other fees (which would be an additional expense, I'll give you that).
The narrator is very knowledgeable about the topic. However, he speaks so fast and it’s hard to follow his topic. There is a lot of fluff and not enough content to gain value from this. He talk about the topic, mentions the topic, flirts with the topic but doesn’t get into specifics. It’s like writing lengthy paragraphs for an exam paper just to have enough words for the essay word count. For example, on this topic, tell the audience how he did this stop over hack. Show us on the screen when booking. Go slow, tell us what to look out for.
He does talk fairly fast. Go back and watch again; in the very beginning, he explains how is did his hack, with pictures. If you are new to this it will take some time but keep reading and watching; it will get easier. Happy travels
Anyone else feel like he is talking down to viewer? What's with chin height camera angle? Makes me think he is short and likes to feel tall. It's distracting.

We were able to have a great one way stop over in Lisbon for 3 nights on our way home from Europe! Thanks Airtap
Wow that is awesome 👏
Did you book through TAP's website? I've been trying to book a stopover in Porto during a trip to Morocco.
I was through Taps website a year and a half ago. Best of luck
We had a 12 hour layover in Seattle heading to Hawaii and was plenty of time to see highlights of Seattle
Awesome 👏
Utilized the stopover in Iceland last Jan!
👏👏👏

I was literally just talking about this. If I was to stop at a country would I have to get a visa if the stop was less than 24 hours
umm
I will be booking a stopover in Amsterdam on our way to Milan for 2025 using Air France miles. This is all thanks to hearing about this possibility on daily drop!❤

Any recommendations on how to book stopover in HKG or TPE flying from JFK?
yes
Aer Lingus allows up to a 7 day stopover in Dublin.
That is a great option!

Doesnt cost any extra. You book multi city and id is same price
you'll spend that money at your final destination anyway. lodging and food at the stopover or your final destination is the same
You're talking too fast in videos. I've changed speed but becomes warpy... Thanks! For Info
