- New to The Fast Lane With Joe Tunney? Here's a short, funny video to get you up to speed: • Joe Tunney car salesma...
The color is Grigio Telesto Pearl...you rarely see it on M5's.
So much is different from the standard M5 to the M5 Competition that it's almost a new body style altogether. Really? What could be that different? Let's take a look.
2019 BMW M5 Competition review - and a great big thanks to my friends at BMW of Hawaii for giving me access to such a relentlessly fabulous car!
The 2019 BMW M5 competition has 617 horsepower, 17 horsepower more than the M5.
The 4.4 liter S63 twin turbo V8 has 25.9 psi of turbo boost and 5000 psi fuel injectors - we talk about why those things are such a big deal and what BMW did to cope with the new power.
The 2019 BMW M5 competition sits 7mm lower than a standard M5, has shortened front links and no rear toe link bushings whatsoever, opting for ball joints instead.
The 2019 BMW M5 competition wheels are 6.6 pounds lighter than the stock M5 wheels.
The M5 Competition ceramic brakes are 42 pounds lighter than the standard M5 brakes.
The M5 competition exhaust is a sport exhaust that is a bit meaner than the standard M5 exhaust.
The M5 competition for 2019 has cross bolted main bearings for added strength.
The M5 competition motor mounts are 55% stiffer than a stock M5 yet the interior is vibration free.
The m5 competition trunk is 19 cubic feet.
M5 competition mpg is 15 city and 21 highway - overall, the M5 competition fuel economy is 17 mpg combined which is astounding for a 4300 pound all-wheel-drive.
The m5 competition 2019 wheelbase is over 117 inches long and it is very roomy for 5 adults.
The 2019 BMW M5 competition 0-60 is tested at 2.8 seconds.
The 2019 BMW M5 competition 70-0 brake distance is 146 feet or within 4 feet of the Ferrari 812 Superfast.

The best technical review of an M5.
Thank you so much for taking a look Saad, I appreciate it!
@@everycarSeattle you're most welcome. You are also the first person to reply actually. I am considering an M5 in 2021 but after your review I need to drive both the regular and the competition package before I could make a decision. Is the competition package too harsh of a drive as a daily driver?

The M1 had 277 hp and when it made its way into the original M5 it made 286 hp in Europe, but was rated only at 256 hp in the US due to additional emissions equipment.

Joe, currently drive an M5 and seriously looked at the competition... I agree that the price increase is worth it but at the same time, the comp is not for everyone and I didn't realize it until I drove it. If this is your daily family car and you drive a lot like me, I'd argue you'd be happier with the non-comp as it's more comfortable and not as loud. For those who care about the extra HP, get a chip/tune and you're comfortably over 700 HP with minimal effort/cost and zero hardware changes.
I'm going to guess Mike that having an M5 as your daily driver might be the most entertaining way to spend an hour a day behind the wheel that this generation of cars has to offer.

WOW these numbers are incredible.
Although it's not the most horsepower in the world, I think its its own way the M5 Competition is the state of the art in performance sedans.

Thank you so much for taking a look Audacity...and have a wonderful 2020!
Wow, you are quite informed. I've learned so much from your reviews. Thank you.
However, I'm interested in an used well maintained Infinity FX35 or Ex35.
The EX35 is literally a wolf in sheep's clothing. It's essentially a G37 coupe wagon, if such a thing could exist.

Thanks for adding. One of the best video about new M5 I’ve seen.
I’m tore between standard M5 & competition model. Now I’m more clearer what I would want. Thanks again.
One quick question, for daily commuting drive & motorway long-distance drive, will competition model compromise too much on comfort? Or most people would hardly notice the difference?
Lastly but not the least, residual value between standard M5 & Competition Pack model, how much of difference it will be say after 3 years?
Many thanks!
Hi Vincent. I thought the Competition was going to be abusive, but it's not rough at all. However, the road feel and driving experience are awesome and a big plus for the Competition. As for resale value, the Competition will not only be more valuable than a standard, it will be a near-certain collectible in the future. Thank you so much for taking a look!

Joe, does the reg m5 not come equipped w ceramic breaks?
Impressive! I will start saving now. I have to have one!!!
They really are amazing to drive, but what's weird is that they also drive like a normal car when you're just going around town.
Yeah I agree, you have great knowledge and a great video!
Transmissions make a difference because some of us have taste. power Glid dct hydra10 2 speed bump 4 banger Hi-lo shift they matter to a cars driving experience. James bond does not want a manual in his superlegera when hes running from merc vans with machine guns mounted on them. and he wont be in auto mode either. At least not while hes shooting. Also it has more to do with control i want to KNOW its me and i wont be interrupted by a computer when i shift. that is 90% of it for me. The method of it being "ME" matters only in the character of the car im driving. All new MT transmissions (*that are worth mentioning*) need no clutch, and they are just DCTs, Multi-clutch, or Robust Singles with sticks. It isn't really YOU either. Hop in an old car when your leg and hip hurt thats how you know it is YOU.
All I ask for is the option to have a traditional 6 speed or whatever flavor du jour transmission concept people are doing. I don't care if it's slower or if it makes me look stupid, I just prefer a manual. But I respect just how far automatic transmissions have come.

Thanks Joe for the great review. Now, where do I find the more than $110,000 to buy one?
Serious question - I have seen some online reviews state that the Competition is stiffer than the regular M5. True or False?
It's stiffer, but not by a lot. I don't think you'd notice if you weren't looking for it...however, it has more of an immediate personality where every single thing seems to happen at maximum level right now when you're driving it in a fun way, but for just cruising around it's just a normal car.
@@everycarSeattle My local dealer has 4 brand new M5s for sale, including one competition. I just need to win the lottery. :)
I would cruise in there for a test drive just so that you're prepared when you win.

great explanation....this car are going to be great product like e39 m5 which may people crying for...
If you add the sports exhaust option to the M5 does it produce the same notes as the competition.
That's a good question Dad Whatever, the M5 has so much sound deadening that the exhaust note isn't all that pronounced inside the car...that being said, I think the sport exhaust is a bit more intense.

anyone know what the weight difference is between the competition and the non-competition?
Both should be the same at 4370 pounds.
The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney 4370?? Weird I’ve heard 4,111, 4090... lol. another video had the competition at 65 kg lighter..
I see that all the time, but have never figured out where some sites get their info. This is BMW's corporate link to the M5 Competition: www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-models/m5/m5-competition/specifications.html

I think the Competition model looks better than the regular one.
It sits just a little lower, which makes it look a little meaner.
Joe, is that color Bluestone Metallic?
It's Grigio Telesto Pearl Mike...it's not even listed as a color option on the M5 order sheet. I think that car would be cool if it only came in that color.
Thank you, looks like a custom color, was hoping it was standard. Customs run 2k-10k depending on the color via BMW Individual.@@everycarSeattle
@@SM-zw4ky If that's a color you like, I'd reach out to the Hawaii dealers. Hawaii often gets things other folks on the mainland don't because were packaged together with Asia-Pacific quite often in the eyes of international companies.

Hi Joe quick question regarding m5 v m5 competition. With the hardened suspension of the competition is it very noticeable in terms of ride quality or is it still very comfortable?
It's not noticeable at all Vikesh...I was actually hoping it would be a bit more intense, but it feels like a normal car that just so happens to perform incredibly well.

The Tesla Model S P100D is the quickest sedan in the world at 2.28 seconds 0-60....so while the BMW is impressive the Tesla holds the title for the fastest 0-60mph production sedan in the world.
The Tesla is an entirely different kind of experience T R for which there is no comparison...Although the Tesla gives up it's advantage after about 0-75 and beyond, it's still the widest car in the world from a thrill-seeker perspective in terms of straight-line snap. In a normal car it feels like you are a bullet racing through the world - in a Tesla it feels like you are standing still and the world is coming at you at a million miles an hour since there is no visceral connection to the powertrain. A day racing the M5 Competition and Tesla P100D would have to be about the most fun day in the world.
Tesla is indeed faster straight line but such different experiences. I've had a number of high performance sedans including the P90D and it is far and away my least favorite car. Ultra cheap interior for the price, lots of useless gimmicks, a huge screen that constantly requires you to look away from the road....I made a mistake. Long story short, I ordered the M5, it's a bargain for what you get.
