Wow! This video has gotten a lot more attention then I thought it would. If you enjoyed the video please subscribe to help me out! Thank you for all of the comments, I read every single one even if I don't reply!
This video's quality is great dude, I figured you had 10's of thousands of subs from the quality alone, when I saw only 200 I was shook, I'm definitely going to give you a sub :)
I think your ideas are great, but I also feel like you don't have any reference for how much dev work is involved in adding even a shortlist of the things you are talking about. I would estimate the time required to add the bulk of what you're suggesting would take 5x the man hours of what has already been invested to make the game.
One of my biggest complaints is how the devs barely tried to make lords and their armies act like a ‘real’ army with a goal in mind. They mindlessly call in a 2000 man army to chase down enemy parties of 30. They wage war on kingdoms when they’re already being attacked on multiple fronts. And someone on Reddit had the audacity to defended the AI saying “it was historically accurate since most lords were petty angry drunks who were uneducated”. Some people in the community are the reason why Taleworlds is getting away with a half finished game because they’re excusing it.
Hahaha right? Every time i play it i always feels like the ai wasnt even made for this game because its soooooooooooo incredibly bad at making choices sometimes. It blows my mind every campaign tbh
@@warriorboltz8817 omg, don't get me started on those reddit/forum commenters. Most of them are clueless or ignorant on the subject/topic of discussion, posting ridiculous takes that are indistinguisheable from trolling
I joined Battania and purchased a town a few days ago. It was my only fief. Battania was down bad. They ended up losing their last fief, minus my town, right after I purchased the town. I proceeded to recapture all the Battania towns and castles with only my party. I didn't get put on the ballot for any of the places I solo captured. Being a bit tilted, I left the kingdom and made my own. I recruited a bunch of the Battanian clans. Then I steam rolled Battania with my Kingdom "New Battania". The vote never had me on the ballot again. Should I just execute them all or AITA?
@@fuzz992 I think once your own your own kingdom, the voting is a bit different. Might need to unlock one of the law changes before you can seize stuff. Not sure, I haven't played in a year or so lol.
@axiomsofdominion Paradox? I'd say paradox makes games that are both wide and deep. Look at victoria 3 for example, or the many mechanics in eu4 or heck, even imperator. Ck3 is literally paradox's biggest game after eu4. I'd compare it more to bethesda. Taleworlds is state funded. That tells you all you need to know about the dev team.
@axiomsofdominion I would agree with CK3 with it being more of a make your own adventure rpg and the simplest game. But with Stellaris it mechanics that combine and interact and allows you to make intresting combos though I do worry about feature bloat. Vicky 3 is complicated that I don't really like it but it's there. AoW 4 is just civ with more mechanics. I do think Paradox games main problem is DLC creep and it being huge mountain for new player.
@axiomsofdominion yeah Stellaris is a decent 4x in the genre, but miffed about the dlc and ground combat but it still is a good game. I'd honestly point to that as someone's first space 4x.
Bannerlord could have been game of the decade. The hype was there. Warband set the foundation. But the devs refused to finish the game, released a half baked version, excused it with "being early access", then proceed to launch the game in pretty much the same state. And they now just hope mods fix it.
It had no chance when they pushed it back a million times, and then started removing nearly everything they said was going to be in the game. Remember when Generals/lords were all supposed to have different tactics? IE some would ALWAYS want to charge at you, or be aggressive, some would want to poke at you, play defensibly, etc. Yet they all play the same basically. Every village/castle was supposed to be able to be turned into a town. They say they got rid of this for balance reasons, But I'm almost certain they just couldn't figure out how to make it work. The worst part is many things about it are just flat out WORSE than Warband. While Bannerlord does do some things right, some of the features they decided to not bring over from Warband already knock it off of being the game of the decade.
@@Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken I remember everything. I followed it development for years and to be fair, the red flags were there since the begining. But i realy trusted taleworlds. I was wrong to trust.
@@eduardoborges506 I don't think the red flags were there from the beginning. They garnered a lot of good faith because of their support for Warband. If bannerlord had all of the beloved mechanics of Warband, plus the things they did better, it would already be an absurdly great game, even if they didn't deliver on everything they promised. But to remove game mechanics people enjoyed, on top of failing to deliver what was promised...Yikes.
@@Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken I remember having this discussion, and maybe videos are still outthere. Bannerlord had a very very early anouncement. In fact, the anounced the game before they even realy started developing it. They anounnced bannerlord in 2012. A few years later, arround 2016 i would say, information started to circulate that all these years nothing pretty much nothing was done and the game kept moving goal poasts and getting re-written over and over again. So, despite having so much time, bannerlord actualy didnt spent that long in actual proper development. You might even find a coment from me in a resonant video talking about this years ago.
Then you are definitely played as much as usual game journalist xD There are a lot of things that work differently. Now, I am not saying it's perfect, someone may find current game state not interesting, sure But there is a difference between early access and current, like heaven and earth
@@Lurzhanrus name it, early access had the exact same barebones diplomacy, same graphics, same combat, same cities with the same things to do, same smithing, same family mechanics, pretty much the same story (the worthless dragon banner is the only thing that wasn't in early access) I have 200 hours logged on the game, and I'm not roasting the game for a stupid reason like a games journalist
God dude, I didnt know about the AI cheats until you mentioned them and it all makes sense now. In the only game ive ever gotten to endgame content with in an attempt to actually win, ive been stuck in a death war against Vlandia and they just spam out 1.5k peasant armies to continuously wear me down, and they just keep fucking attacking varcheg and seizing uthelaim castle. The only problem is, I cant sign a peace with them because they only offer 'pay me 9k per day and ill fuck off' while completely ignoring the western empire which is actually on their border. That and the absolutely atrocious system of convincing ANYONE to defect regardless of if youve totally destroyed their kingdom or not honestly made me quit. Idk, maybe mods make it better, but bannerlord is a fundamentally unfinished game. It feels like the devs never even played as a king
I just got into the game for the first time ever never played the old one so no nostalgia and I’m loving it but I’m super bummed out reading all of your comments I was expecting a more positive response like manor lords but guess not I’ll still enjoy it I got 60 hrs so far 😅
Has a game like this *ever* been able to pull off good AI though? It seems like every strategy game just has too much going on for devs to properly make an AI that can behave in actually strategic ways. Every game from 4X to grand strategy to RTS has their AI just "cheat" at higher difficulties rather than act more ruthlessly.
Diplomacy is so broken in this. I was just playing two days ago, on my way to conquer Vlandia. It was going pretty good, I got their 4 cities, some castles and clans. Suddenly I get a message that they offer peace for 2k per day, I'm like "hell yeah they gonna pay me while I rebuild my armies". Turned out I didn't read the whole thing, it said that I had to pay them for peace. I was like "bruh ya serious right now? I'm basically destroying your entire kingdom and your peace offer is so smug and arrogant?", I never would've thought they'd be so arrogant to be like "stop attacking us, pay us 2k per day instead"😆
Who's got the bigger problem, the AI who sent this, or you who can't read? Jk, jk, I've accidentally unconditionally surrendered after winning a war in the game EU4 more times than I can count so I relate.
I remember leading up to its release people were very hyped! Bannrlod could've just been a graphical update to warband and gamers would've crowned them king. To say the game has been a little disappointing in this regard would be pretty accurate actually. The mods though. If not for mods this game would be dead.
absolutely not. i put 150 hours in before i ever used mods. it wouldn’t be as popular, but it definitely wouldn’t be dead. it’s definitely got its problems, but it’s a great game.
@domiepotato even if the base game I worth 150 hours without mods it's still not a game that would last. If you put 150 hours in the first year and then there were no mods you would be less inclined to play. The game would be repetitive and unejoyable meaning after a couple of years with no mods the game would see very little activity
Why I stopped playing this game after 50 hours of play was this problem, more or less. I played a diplomatic game somehow, I allied myself to the Northern Empire, but also managed to marry the daughter of the Empress of the Southern Empire when she decided to give her daughter's hand to the highest bidder, and I had a lot of money by that point. Still, as a son-in-law I was considered quite untrustworthy. I also, by the later years of his life, married my sister or daughter to the Emperor of the Northern Empire. So I was going quite nice and never got interested in the main quest. I became the next Emperor of the Northern Empire, due to my standing as a successful general, marriage alliances, etc. or the game just decided to do so, I don't know. The NE became the strongest all around, with stiff competition still. Then I did the quest, then it gave me 2 options. Leave to create your own kingdom, or give it to another leader... I am the emperor of one, can't give it to myself, if I do, I leave my empire to rule a single city... what? Or I give it to someone else to unite the empire... What? If I wasn't the emperor, I might have given it to them but... what? This is not poor writing, this is outright idiotic and as the game became repetitive by then, with such terrible storyline and quest system that ignores a probability as mine, I left it there...
Haha that's weird I had the exact opposite lol I married into southern empire when she died I became emperor thanks to the marriage and again I'm guessing like you but because everyone in the empire loved me for saving them in battles and seiges but when I did the Main Quest I somehow supported myself with the dragon banner lol, it was me standing next to me it was a strange one
In all fairness, the entire point of the questline is that calradia needs a drastic change. The empire must either go entirely or undergo an extreme and drastic reform, that cannot be done if youre already an emperor of one of the imperial factions, you are bound to abide by the hundreds to thousands of years of tradition that came before and as such youre doomed to make the exact same mistakes and suffer the exact same fate. Youre also expected to immediately do that questline and spend a significant portion of the game preparing to break away from a kingdom or steal one entirely, so that is on you for just outright ignoring the quest. And even then, as emperor you can just force other lords to give you their fiefs, rally up an army of your most trusted lords and then break away from the faction, then promptly declare yourself the bannerlord and give them all the opportunity to join you or fall to your blade later.
@@tobymarx-dunn2332 Surely they assumed so but in such a game you cannot assume when the quest needs to be done and a good storyline should predict that as the world allows that. If my character is not my character but the npc ruler of a country let's say, the banner could have been given to that him. Only not possible if I am the player character, albeit being in the same shoes of a leader who could be given the banner. It is contradicting with itself. This is weak storytelling, that is all sadly.
@@jackofastora8962 Thank you for sharing your point of view, but I do not completely agree with that. If I, as a player character, can give the banner to one of the established regimes, it must also be possible to do so when I am one of those established regimes. If I am planning to recover the empire, why leave the large lands and power I have in my hand or give that power to someone else who are in the same status as I am? Doesn't make sense. The quest in no way forces or hints at me that it must be done right away. So no, that is not on me but on thinking how an open world works. This is lacking in this game, both in storytelling and worldbuilding.
I used to remember all the companions in Warband to the details: their personalities, where they came from, their motivations to join in, and which of other companions that they like or hate. They managed to do so much with so little.
Remember the quest that you had to sneak into the castle to meet daughter of a Noble? And you had to learn poems to say romantic shits? That was damn fun.
28:33 This is one of the biggest things I hate, every NPC seems almost exactly the same, in Warband they at least had different personality types which made them less forgettable. I have 150 hours and couldn't name a single non-faction leader NPC. The game's combat is IMO quite good, I like that they kept it easy to learn while also rewarding you for mastering it similar to in Warband, granted I don't think there's as many ways to "abuse" hitboxes as in Warband, then again I haven't really tried to get good with the combat like I did with Warband (RIP almost 3k hours of my life) and have only limited experience in multiplayer so I can't say for certain.
Agreed, fuck moriga. Always makes me clear a sea raider base just to build that dye work. I always, ALWAYS, destroy that fucking town first. If there is a mod to execute him, I would but nooooo anytime I find a good mod, that particular option is gone... I still butcher his army tho.
Imagine we had the overhaul mods like in Warband. The detailed cities would be perfect for a overhaul mod like Nova Aetas, where you have functioning workshops with roleplaying mechanics
@@timh.7169 Realm of Thrones doesn't require a modlist (besides the typical requirements Harmony, ButterLib, and MCM). It comes with a couple small mods incorporated into it, and the only extra mod I would recommend (although it's not needed at all) would be My Little Warband if you are going for a specific roleplay. But even then, RoT has so many custom factions, troops, and weapons that most roleplays can be done without MLB. RoT even has a built-in toggleable compatibility option for MLB. Diplomacy mod can be a nice addition, but RoT has narrative world events and established faction relations to the point that Diplomacy isn't needed whatsoever unless you plan on creating your own kingdom. RoT even has the messenger/raven system from Diplomacy already incorporated. RoT is very feature and content heavy on its own, which is great because it still has even more planned for the future. And frankly you really don't need other mods to go with it.
I think the big flaw in this is the Story Mode... Bruh, in Viking Conquest they made an awesome story with different choices, lots of characters that you could turn into friends or enemies, some neat story twists, the overall plot was so much more interesting. And you've had the entire conflict presented in a more comprehensible way. And you could replay it multiple times because there were more than 2 choices. While in Bannerlord this story mode is just so, uninteresting. You have only 3 relevant characters, two sides and that's it.
@@Atrahasis7 Sadly, I wish we had companions like in VC in bannerlord. But nah, we instead get randomly generated companions who are not characters at all, they're just for you to exploit, either run a town or a castle or take care of caravans. Boring. Hell, we had better companions in Warband
@@TheGreatLordDIO I've seen people praising this change because "there are more stories you can create with random characters" like wtf they don't even talk to you outside of greetings lmao
I put 50 hours in this game when it first came out and decided that I'd wait until the game is more polished before getting into it. 2 years later and I'm thinking I'll probably never pick it up again.
@@kinkajou23 Warband Prophecy of Pendor is my favorite way to play Mount and Blade. I really enjoyed Bannerlord for awhile until endgame, but man PoP is soooooo fun (and fking brutally hard for me lol).
@@redridingcape Pendor is definitely the best, most polished medieval fantasy overhaul for Warband. There's so many good overhauls for Warband, but Pendor is absolutely a solid choice for picking a favorite.
I don't expect them to do anything else anymore. The modders gave up, the devs collected their money, the players got hyped and forgave all the obvious problems. I have problems in particular with Influence, Renown, Clan tier and relationships being tied to families. I feel they wanted to capitalize the popularity of GoT and CK2 and forgot M&B was its own thing. The core problems of the game are unmoddable because it's in the game's spine and I feel they are unfixable. I'll just keep playing Warband.
Good shit. Bannerlord is like Total War where I fucking love it to death beacause of the niche but if there was a good alternate I'd play that instead and spit on Bannerlord.
@@grenadaball7655 some, but definitely not all. a lot of mods that are updated past 1.2 seem to work on my 1.2.10 build. it is very annoying though because a few don’t.
I’m currently at the end game right now in my play through. One thing that pisses me off is that when a kingdom has 1 litteral castle. They DONT surrender. It’s so frustrating just attacking and killing a kingdoms men and settlements and them not saying “so we’ve lost 10 castles and 10,000 men…. I think we should stop”
Wish this game was more like warband. No literal story but a adventurer in middle of a endless conflict. The companions feel uninteresting because unlike the old ones like Jeremus and Bunduk they all same and have almost no lore or connection to existing factions. İdea of endless companions that can die or multiply is good for gameplay but wish we had some deeper. More special companions that actually had a story. A single castle in Warband had more worldbuilding and interesting lore than entire kingdoms from bannerlord :/
Yeah, like I can't remember a single companion from Bannerlord and I've played for 400 hours. Meanwhile I remember, for example, Jeremus story and how he would intervene if you did stuff he was against etcetera.
Bannerlord has maybe half dozen REALLY IMPORTANT aspects of the gameplay that were MASSIVELY improved and expanded from its predecessor Warband, but several dozen aspects that seem to have either stagnated or even taken steps backwards. -They woulda never done my boi Jeremus like they did these new companions
Taleworld says the game is finished yet we still have armor sets in the game that have missing parts and no cloth physics. Either they are working on something else, or they lost a few veteran devs and are now unable to finish.
"There's a large enemy army besieging one of our largest settlements. We should besiege one of their settlements deep into their territory instead of defending our settlement."
I have 1500 hours on this one. It's my favorite game of all time and I've been gaming for over 30 years. I also agree with all your criticism. I guess it just scratches a very specific itch. I always lose interest once I get a few towns and castles cause the late game is such a slog, but I find myself creating new chars over and over and over again, playing for a week or so, then starting over. The dopamine rush of leveling up and improving skills is the real deal, cause the combat is so fun.
LOL maybe you are my long lost twin. 1400 hours. Favorite game of all time. Gaming for over 30 years. Yep this game just ticks something in my brain. I play, usually until right before all my kids and nephews and nieces hit 18 and then restart with a new "plan" or style I am going to do. This playthrough that I started last night is No smithing, sandbox (so no op siblings), only empire troops, started as my real actual age (50) Bannerlord difficulty and ironman mode. What is your playthrough?
@@brutalusgaming8809It's just us mount and bladers. It's an itch we gotta scratch ahaha. I've got 1000 hours in both games by now, and I think I've only ever made it to king once 😂
If another competent dev team decides to compete with TW by creating a similar game pretty sure we'll all be happy, and TW will be done and gone. We play because there is no decent alternative if at all other than warband which is unfortunately pretty outdated today. This game is the golden formula for a medieval sandbox rpg, it deserves a better dev team.
everyone seems to say F1 F3, it's a meme at this point, but F1 F6 works better, puts your army where you need it during the early stage of the battle. Your army AI identifies and immediately counters the tactics that the enemy army is going to be using. This allows you you to stay more immersed in the battle and make small changes to the orders if you see an opportunity to move or change your formations at different stages of the battle.
Honestly, that's the best way to enjoy battles. They do a lot of things that you can't. Just as long as it isn't another Lord that is commanding the army, because ho-lee, are they stupid. I once watched over 700 Sturgian infantry and 200 archers get crushed by 400 Battanian archers because the "special" commander decided to let the enemy archers "exaust" their arrows... by just leaving our units standing there while getting shot until there was maybe half the men left. Only then did he order them to charge. There was a forest between the 2 forces, so a shield wall would've been more than enough to counter the Battanians. Needless to say, it was a near complete loss. By the time our infantry reached their archers, they had already exhausted most of our top tier units, leaving mostly weakened or inexperienced troops, which their Fians made short work of.
25:48 Something very simple but impactful in the end game could be having all the remaining factions stop fighting each other and unite against you once you have 50% or more of the map under your control, like what Shogun 2 total war did. It would actually be a better reason than the dragon banner Then once you've been cut down enough, they start fighting each other again
What's bizarre to me is that, at best, you get maybe 30 points in a skill for your background choices. So my character grew up a blacksmith, worked for it his entire life, and he can't even make a decent spear? Bannerlord's backgrounds are completely useless. No narrative or mechanical weight whatsoever.
You speak from my heart, followed Bannerlord more or less continuous through 8 years of development and then the release, it was mental pain, i wish they would have stayed with thier first version of Bannerlord and made the M&B 2 we all hoped and waited for. Bannerlord became another Gothic 3 for me, i always become sour and bitter when i am think too long about it.
It's pretty incredible there's no co-op. For Warband I played a mod called Battle Time which allowed all single player battles to be multiplayer. So you would make characters for yourself and your friends and play the game. One player actually running the single player game and streaming it to others. Like a classic RPG party you would together decide what to do and play the game together. Then when battles came you would be able to play as your character in the battle. I bought Mount & Blade when it was in alpha, this was before early access was even a thing. There was just a feeling of being awestruck by the fighting mechanics and open world even when everything was incredibly bare bones. You could just imagine how incredible the experience could be when fully fleshed out. You didn't expect it with the first title because well that was going to be their first game. But surely the sequel would build on those ideas and be what you could only dream about. Now many, many, many years later there's still no game that fully capitalizes on that potential. It feels like that era of possibilities in games is gone.
I spent so many hours on the OG mount and blade and warband once that came out. It was just a whole new thing back then that was combined concepts like Sid Meier’s Pirates and the total war series. You got the freedom of Pirates and the battles of total war, but you GOT TO ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE IN BATTLES. It was fucking magical and ultra addicting. I introduced it to friends and got them addicted. That was just vanilla. Then I discovered mods like 1866 and Star Wars, which made the game just so much more replayable. Bannerlord is good too but there is indeed a feeling of what could have been. I can’t go back to the old games due to how they aged, and while Bannerlord scratches the itch somewhat it’s still flawed. Still good enough for having fun though. I had good memories with the series overall though so I’m happy with what Talesworld brought to the gaming world
does anyone else remember that for the first week this game was available you couldnt buy armour because a dev forgot to click a checkbox to enable armour spawns in shops?
or how a dev accidentally moved Sargot to south leading them to break the lore. only to create a shitty lore excuse later on. What a mess of a dev team. I dont often blame individual devs for a messy game but TW really has some talentless people there.
Thank you for teaching me the correct way to use the dragon banner. Next time a kingdom pisses me off, I will be handing them that curse object and wait for my moment to strike.
The game should have player kingdom control and diplomacy. Alliances, non-aggression, trade agreements, relations between kingdoms, all from Warband but heavily fleshed out. But the game could also use kingdom control. You should be able to tell your kingdom which fiefs they should be considering in the war using a map, and should be allowed to set your kingdom to ideas like not taking fiefs in a war and instead doing defending and raiding. Could have a slider for raid severity per war (remembered for that faction with the options of Avoid Raiding (Nobody raids except dishonourable + cruel lords with low relations to you), Raid Freely (Normal raid rules from vanilla), and Less Talking More Raiding (All lords except those with merciful 1 and 2 encouraged to raid). On higher raid severities lords will be more aggressive in hunting down villagers and caravans as well, with more intent to disrupt the enemy's economy. Could also have a slider for army prevalence that determines how many armies your faction will try to raise vs. population, so you can have more lords raiding instead of every single one being in an army. Deciding how important it is to group up vs. smaller operations. Kingdom defensiveness could also be a factor, determining how much your lords go out to raid or join armies vs. how many stay back to stop raids, as well as how far away they are willing to raid in enemy lands, maybe even forming small raid armies of 2-3 lords. Those 3 aspects could also be reflected in other kingdoms to make them different: Khuzaits could have much higher raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and lower army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as steppe raiders and nomads Sturgians could have high raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence. Reflecting their relation to vikings but with their snowy advantage. The Northern Empire could have lower raid severity, higher defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as the more diplomatic manipulation wing of the Empire. The Western Empire would have higher raid severity, higher aggressiveness, and higher army prevalence. Reflecting their militaristic nature and leadership of generals The Southern Empire could have neutral raid severity, high defensiveness, and high army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as the Empire still under the rightful ruler The Aserai could have low raid severity, high defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence. Reflecting their mercantile nature and letting them use their desert advantages Battania could have high raid severity, high aggressiveness, low army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as forest bandits in Warband, and being mostly disorganized Vlandia could have neutral raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence. A true neutral all about itself, like the mercenaries they once were.
I just wanted Warband in a modern engine. I got broken kingdom-AI with a very BROWN coat of HD paint. "Everything and Everyone is ugly because it's historically accurate" is not an excuse when games like Kingdom Come exist.
The basic combat isn't accurate, either. When you look at some medieval combat manuscripts, you realize just how pathetic Bannerlord's combat is. The game doesn't let you be much more than a caveman in combat.
I remember I was so hyped when Bannerlord released EA, especially during the COvid 19 quarantine time. After 2 years of official release (and ofc serveral updates), nothing much changed to be honest. So many mechanisms are at place holder level.I don't play the game so much because beside the long loading time, every new save feels really similar. p/s: getting family in the game is like: fight on the battlefield for 2 years and hear the wife at home (who my character never met) gives birth lol. In previous game, we have quests that our character has to meet daughter of a noble secretly and so on. That was brilliant.
I made a mod that simulates combat fatigue as health loss to a certain point. If health goes below this point, health is no longer lost. You can rest your men and yourself to replenish health. Horses can die from exhaustion. Exhausted troops will have less health making them easier targets. This said, it is like pissing in the wind unless 1.3 will No Man's Sky things.
Easiest way to get to mid game is the Arena Go fight in the practice arena until you can survive Then find the closest tournament and just proceed to follow the arena circuit around keeping whatever winnings improves your armor and sell the rest By the time you have reached the head if the rankings, you should easily have well over 100,000 gold and a constant stream of influence for being the top of the rankings At this point you can go buy an army and go take your first castle
One thing I was thinking about Imagine if bannerlord had AI that could create dialogue phrases based on events that happen in your exact campaign, or that could write a detailed biography about your character in encyclopedia. Other thing is what if you could actually speak to characters, and they would generate answers using that AI. What if you could agree on something, or try to negotiate, promising to do something later, or explaining why you did this or that. I think that the most enjoyable part of bannerlord campaigns is building your character's lore and if my idea could become true it would be a perfect game
I supported the original M&B way back in the day when it was basically just a couple people working on it while living hand to mouth. Coming from that, my expectations are rather tempered and many might consider me to be among the folk that "let them get away with" not finishing the game. That said, I'm still rather disappointed though perhaps for different reasons. With the very first game, I was just happy with the concept and the attempt to bring it to life. What really made the franchise an all time favorite for me though was mods. Oh lordy do I love the modding community. This really blossomed with Warband in my opinion. To me, Warband wasn't a game, it was a framework. Effectively, I got to play many many different games with this framework. Mods are love, mods are life. This is why I'm absolutely boggled as to why they have been so uncooperative with the modders with Bannerlord. A few really dedicated communities making total conversion mods (shout out to The Old Realm in particular) are the main reason I've spent 90% of the time I have with Bannerlord. What's a real bummer though is how it pales in comparison to Warband by this time in the life cycle. Like, count up all the good mods and add a zero behind it. It's an order of magnitude less. This is squarely attribute to how Taleworlds has treated the modding community. From early on it was apparent they really didn't want to deal with the modding community. Like at all. Everything they've done to "help" modders has felt begrudgingly and half hearted. Case in point is just updates. Game was "released" how long ago? Yet updates aren't just mod breaking, they're mod shattering. Core mechanics get tweaked in absolutely trivial ways and it happens in spades. It seems really clear to me and most people in the community that they're not going to get the base game to a satisfactory state. The saving grace here could and should have been the modding community (like always, quite frankly), so I'm absolutely baffled and disappointed with how uncooperative and inconsiderate they've been. Many beloved modders from Warband have said outright that this is the primary or even the only reason they aren't making a version for Bannerlord. I get that all of this is rather meaningless to people who aren't into mods but there's a large portion of the community which plays M&B games that lives for them and man did they drop the ball here. The modding community doesn't ask for much cooperation, honestly it's mostly just about communication, really nominal effort on Taleworld's part. In return they provide a massive amount of fixes, improvements and content. Nope. Can't be bothered. Shame.
yeah Im one of those "old guards" as well, started playing around M&B v0.700. Im disappointed with bannerlord to say the least. Safe to say having Paradox as your publisher puts you on edge to create something good, whereas now, since theyre state funded, they got nothing to prove anymore. Which I highly suspect is the reason as to why they delayed the game several times after saying it will be done in a year in 2016. State money must have tasted good. And judging from the glassdoor reviews, the studio is a pure hot mess of a place to work at. Armagan was a good coder, but a horrible manager.
First playthrough I only got Nathanos and the other two were bugged stuck in teenage Limbo. I've had them every time since then, so it definitely happens to some people.
I don't comment on a lot of videos anymore, but for only having 500+ subs, this is incredible quality! So many videos I watch in long format I get maybe 10-20 minutes in, checking the time remaining and sometimes just clicking off. I got right to the end like "Damn, honestly thought there'd be more to this! I was enjoying that" Very informative, got a few chuckles, and I didn't actually know the A.I straight up cheats by teleporting armies, but like another comment said as well "Now it all makes sense" Thumbs up, dropped a sub. Keep crafting videos like this and other shenanigans and you'll boom!
The worst thing for me about Bannerlord is multiplayer. Through years multiplayer was essential part to keeping alive mount&blade, the key to succeed it was its simplicity and freedom of possibilities. I hate Bannerlord multiplayer, I hate lack of sieges (like in warband), deathmatch and etc I dont feel atmosphere of combat and tactcis. Almost everything is imposed from above. Really I have no freaking pleasure and fun playing multi in Bannerlord. In warband I have several thousand hours playing just only multiplayer, but in Bannerlord from 86 hours I maybe spent max 5 hours. They butchered my boi....
@@-Mazir- "average warband player wipes a BL player" yeah, because you can't spin like a helicopter bugging the hell out all hit and block animations with insane speed, seems pretty obvious lmao
I feel bannerlord has such potential for a massive quest mod to add that epic, world changing quest. Like Light and Darkness did for warband. Now to wait for that mod
wich will never become a reality since taleworlds breaks mods constantly. i was there when eagle rising, medivel overhauls + lemmys europe were being made but all of em stopped because of the constant breaks :/ now if i go to the steam page or the modding websites there isnt anyone making big and cool mods :C
With the morale part, it would be cool if enemy soldiers could surrender or route, but if you're reputed for being devious and/or cruel they only run. Give the traits value and many more ways to pursue a trait and maintain it. Calculating at positives could buff your autocalc, open up options for delegating command strategies, and give a troop accuracy bonus. Calculating at negatives could increase troop movement speed and handling, but make delegate command always follow an aggressive style. Generocity at positives could improve the morale of your troops and increase clan village hearth rate. Generocity at negatives could lower troop wage costs and improve clan village income at the cost of hearth rate. Honour at positives could boost troop morale, improve your clan fief loyalty, improve non-criminal notable relations in your fiefs, and provide slight bonuses to recruiting all lords. Honour at negatives could boost troop ranged damage, improve your clan fief security, bandits won't harm your villagers, but makes lords more cautious of joining you. Mercy at positives could improve how many enemy troops surrender when the battle is won, reduce relation losses, and allow lords to surrender on the campaign map. Mercy at negatives could make them always run, provide melee bonuses to your infantry, make troops chase faster post-battle, and debuff enemy morale around you in battle. Valour at positives could buff troop morale in an aura around you, increase infantry run speed, and buff your troops in open terrain. Valour at negatives could increase archer reload speed, improve troop missile resist, and buff your troops in rough terrain. This could also open up ways to make your army YOUR army. Perhaps the game could change your troops to reflect the personality of your character with contextual voice lines as they follow your example, no matter how dishonourable, cruel, cautious, greedy, and hotheaded you are, they don't judge you but instead mold to that style. Cheeky remarks and dedication to your plan for calculating, impatient barks for the hotheaded. Light-hearted banter when stationary for the generous, plunder-related comments for the closedfisted. Respect for the enemy post-battle by the honourable, openly mocking the enemy mid-battle at low honour. Violent barks post-battle for the cruel. A ton of voice lines to add character to your army so your leadership feels like it is actually affecting the individual. Barks could exist for different troop types to reflect the personality, weighted to the style such as more archer ones for the cautious and calculating, more infantry ones for the valorous and honourable
It’s frustrating that the devs have let the bug go on for ages where a Lord takes over your siege and you’re trapped in it forever and it NEVER FINISHES. It’s dreadful. I haven’t played in ages because it was so frustrating…
ideas? so many: overhaul the smithing and include a fletcher and bowmaker as additional warehouses for each of our cities where certain companions can be assigned to create culture specific arrows and bows (to own a workshop in your own city would require policies to be introduced, once enacted then a companion can be assigned to the workshop and depending on their culture would depend on the bows and arrows they make for us to utilize for our armies and upgrade as a specialist troop guard costing influence) this method of additional warehouses (once enacted) could also be utilized to include barracks and training grounds for our soldiers so when we drop prisoners off at the dungeon, those who would want to join our army from town prisons can be taken from the prison to the barracks which needs space and time to train our troops (as with prisoner upgrades within our party) we could also fully customise our soldiers as a specialist force in our towns mixing armours, weapons, horses, soldiers to create a specialist elite troops like a royal guard, for instance. successfully take a town. have workshops as an additional project for each town complete army workshop using the three tier system. tier 1: workshop = training grounds, fletcher, bow maker, stables. tier 2:workshop = warehouse available = barracks, training grounds, fletcher, bow maker. 10% faster training/creation when sergeant/officer is assigned to each workshop, barracks = hold 300 trained soldiers (culture bound, meaning that in order to improve/create any weapon, the weapon that the culture is associated too has to be present when making each weapon meaning f we truly wanted an ubermench army, we really have to travel to find selective workshop companions tier 3:workshops = training grounds, fletcher, bow maker = 15% faster training/creation when sergeant/officer is assigned to each workshop, barracks = hold 500 trained soldiers, workshop available = royal guard workshop (royal guard workshop = take any soldier and customise them swapping out armours and weapons for each soldier gathered from a rally companion, horses can also be customised the same way and trained to receive pedigree stats with good buffs whilst allowing us to concentrate on the feed of the horses (oats, grain, rye, etc) which effects the horses stability from their own diet (expensive food costa a lot more, harder to find but give good stats for horses.) rally companion, instead of traversing the land for soldiers, hire a rally companion to rally armies for us with the option to choose who and what soldiers they are to recruit. The rally companion cannot rally soldiers from kingdoms which are at war with us. allowing us to customise our own royal quard army would truly be an achievement but have it tie to the system would bring sooooo many 1000's of hours of play for each person just customizing/crafting and fighting. I truly do think this would revamp the game among many other ideas that the community has, maybe not for bannerlord 2 unless by an extreme mod, but for bannerlord 3?
Nicely sumerized. I had the game for very long time but didnt get to play it at all. Only some early game and battles and thats it. Now im trying to conquer the world and struggling big time cuz of diplomacy issues, massive peasent army spam from enemies etc. I get so angry that i start chopping the heads of everyone i capture 😂
Imagine if they actually had competition.. Us as gamers would be the happiest people on the planet. There's nothing worse than a product that is allowed to be shit purely because there's nothing else.
I have actually seen moral impact on large battles; sometimes groups of enemies will be fleeing the battlefield which, because it happens as a lot of troops have died, means it happens as new ones come in to reinforce, so its easy to miss I guess. At one point I got caught up in chasing down fleeing troops before I noticed I was losing men, as they were still fighting the battle.
These are exactly my thoughts on the game. Awesome video and i love how you make great propositions and dont waste time, the one hour is beefed with opinions and suggestions, i love it
I like this video. I like this game. I wish there was more, but there’s just nothing quite like it. There’s absolutely no story but in my opinion, that’s not really why you play a game like this. This game gets a lot of hate but i’m absolutely addicted.
@domiepotato I see from your comments that you really love this game, and I totally understand! I also love this game! I know the video was a bit more on the negative side, but I wouldn't have so many hours if I didn't love it! I just eish they focused harder on some aspects or at least dropped some to focus more on other aspects.
Good timing for me. I've owned this game since it I release but I only recently played it and sunk 60 hours into it and I can agree with you so hard the battles and sieges are sick af but god even that couldn't stop me from getting bored I helped my liege take down two other kingdoms, and it just gets to the point were I'm just auto resolving the fights to speed things up because how tedious it is to chase down enemies and them magically spawning new armies.. there's no real depth to keep me invested long enough to actually paint the map entirely
I think everything bannerlord does, is done better by Battle Brothers. They’re not 1:1 games, but extremely similar. Battle brothers has the benefit of knowing what it is, and leaning hard into it as a mercenary company simulator. Bannerlord knows what it wants to to be, but spreads its self incredibly thin in the process. Never committing to any one identity. I adore bannerlord, but I feel like Taleworlds could learn a lot from Overhype Studios. It’s really a shame Bannerlord’s updates have slowed down like they have. The game still needs a lot of help I think.
I was legitimately one of the first 100 people to buy this game, as I was in the peak of a Warband playthrough when it was announced that there would be early access, and I bought it immediately. I agree with the overall critique offered in this video. I am a hardcore veteran of RPGs like Fallout 1 and 2 which completely changed videogames for me during childhood. Through our patience and funding we deserve so much more as far as the creation of real meaningful Diplomacy without mods, more expansive quests, personality and relationships actually mattering, and voice dialogue. If Taleworlds was looking for talented individuals for thorough voice acting, I could definitely make some coin with this game. I've done basically every playtype within Vanilla and am always hungry for more.... I recently installed some mods that I hope add a bit of depth if not roleplaying fantasy in my brain: I recommend the Europe Lemmy Project, Board Games with Puluc with the Board XP addon, Arenas Extended Europe Medieval, Taverns Extended Europe. I hope to actually visit Europe one day and love playing as a merchant so I bought a physical journal irl and wrote down what I bought and sold from the towns in Europe as well as what I won in the tournaments. That Europe Mod introduces purchasable boats and galleys which make it faster to travel. I'm loading the game as I type this, and downloaded the Huskur Brother, Sacha Sister, and Wheels of Time Armour mod. I hope it goes well. Cheers all!
25:50 They just need to shamelessly ripoff what Prophesy of Pendor did for Warband. Unique spawns with their own stories, invading factions, etc. 33:34 Bandit hideouts are mostly walking, too. They should just simplify it to a dungeon with "rooms" and encounters you get teleported to via a fade to black. 37:50 Some of the Perks don't even work at all. 15% of them are bugged to either not work or work differently. 40:48 Good idea. 42:05 Scouting and Medicine both have OP Party Leader perks, so they are worth skilling into. The only problem is that like you said, you can't get to the part where they matter. 45:30 I disagree with locking out a good deal behind walking and loading into a town's worth of 3D models. 46:45 This is the biggest problem with Bannerlord.
A big issue with skills, in my opinion, is that you can't reliably raise a lot of them. There isn't a training mechanic or anything like that. Want to improve your tactics? Invest points in it. Want to improve medicine? Assign yourself as a party surgeon. Want to improve Engineering? Assing yourself to party engineer and put yourself in a position where you are able to actually use the skill, which are few. What, I can't learn by observing and helping my Surgeon? My character's little sibling can't learn how to trade by observing *me*? Combat and Smithing skills are straightforward enough, but everything else is a nightmare to rank up. At times, it feels like Bannerlord wasn't play-tested at all.
I think the biggest draw is the level of detail that gives every battle context. you can always jump into an instant battle but then it's lacking context for why you are fighting
It can be a little annoying. Especially when it crashes at random and you realize you have not saved the past 30 minutes of work. They should add some kind of backup feature.
What gets me is that the fu***** NPC clans have multi-layer clan emblems. Meanwhile, I'm supposed to be happy with just a deer on a flat field. No patterned shields, either.
How does this video have so many likes but this guy has so few subs? I had to sub.. he's dead on. This guy has been into mount and blade for years and has some great suggestions for how to improve this game.
The absolutely worst thing about all of this is that Warband had most of the things Bannerlord is missing in native. It wasn't great but it was something that could be built upon. NPC dialogues had some actual usage, you could give orders to other lords and the fact that lords had personalities meant that each one acted a bit differently. If they just took those ideas and made them again, I would be happy. If they made them better, I'd be ecstatic.
One of my biggest problem with this game is the execution mechanic. Like if i am in a war with a faction that keeps attacking me and wont stop so i excecute them so they stop raising armies against my factions but then everyone hates me. Like do you guys not wanna win this war?
Well this comes from two prospective one is that it is considered dishonorable and barbaric to execute a lord even if he is your enemy and two because the dev say it would make the game too easy 5o be able to execute everyone with no consequences So they Make everyone hate you for it and it also basically softlocks you out of having any friendly interactions with other lords and if your not apart of a kingdom its stays like that I im not sure though because maybe my game was broken but yeah its supposed to be a kinda of a balancing mechanic so you won't just go full on french revolution and cut everyone head
I honestly don't think the reputation system was intended to be a representation of any kind of realism. It's there to discourage you from excessively killing all the lords because in the game, despite there being birth, there's no good, time relevant way of maintaining adult nobles and lords. It's purely there as a vague attempt to prevent you from emptying the world.
@@hoseinsafaei9920 "dev say it would make the game too easy" then they should have fucking fixed it in a better way than to put stupid barriers in front of it. Or just remove the mechanic. Like the stupid peace offers where you pay the losing side money because the devs couldnt think of another way to balance things. Visionless lazy mfers to say the least.
Reminds me of the original Mount and Blade. Completely different at release than what it is now. Then it got a remastered version in Warband. And even that was re-worked so much that it is missing an entire city. A lot of people wanted to think Bannerlord was another Warband. When in reality Warband was like a 5th time remaster.
It says a lot for this idea of game that even a half baked attempt can provide justified time sinking. Mods for sure help, and honestly, they should stop updating the game for PC. Just update consoles. I'm of the opinion that it would just be better to work on Bannerlord 3 full time with all they learned from this game. That's really the only justification I can think of for the huge lack of updates. They prolly just went and were like "Well, we could make updates and dlc, or we could just make the next game on top of these bones we got".
It took them 10 years for M&2 but maybe if they keep the same engine (which is in fact the best thing done for the game) at least they will make it in less than 10 years lol.
The perk tree is better made than it gets credit for. Late game when you start accumulating fiefs, it becomes very handy for your champion companion with a 2hander skill of 200 to have some governor perks, and it becomes possible for you to shift them from warrior towards nobility. Then when you are faction leader and you make them a noble, they have experience in fighting and have also leveled skills like steward and charm that make them more effective party leaders and governors. Having perks that work with multiple builds in multiple trees makes it easier to specialize in ways that give you huge bonuses. A warrior with everything in vigor and endurance, but a decent investment into intelligence and medicine allows you to create a party with 50% more health than normal troops. That way you don't have to recruit a medic companion either, freeing up a slot to specialize in another area
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with so many topics but I've got a few more here. With the battles you almost always have to run all the way across the map (unless they greatly outnumber you) which takes forever and the enemy army is backed against the maps boarder. So you can't flank them with your cav because their flank is out of bounds and you pretty much only have the f1 f3 as a choice. Sure you can run all the way over to them and make a shield wall and walk in but you don't have very many tactical options. They should have a retreat boundary or something where you can't back up as far as the other army can advance or just make the AI veried where some will attack and some will run. I mean the peasants and bandits will charge but never with a noble army that's always on you. The end game content to them is just making grind by having your AI so stupid it has to be intentional. You fight someone and they will attack your fiefs but your allies armies will just run around letting the enemy take cities to add grind and extend the life of your playthrough. The only way to not constantly lose cities is to make sure they are all in a general area and always be in an army and manually run back and forth to all the cities fighting. Saved this city now to save that one I just saved 5 min ago and now back to the last one. I once tried to show my friend how awesome this game was but I legit just had to go back and forth between a city and castle like 5 times and he thought yeah the armies are cool but the game itself sucks....you also need more ways to increase relationships because even if they are soulless NPCs I find it odd that they don't really care much when I give them a fief or battle along side them for years while all I have to do is become enemies with someone slaughter all their troops but let them go. Enemy lord "Hey there ya old rascel you've slaughtered all my fellow countrymen again showing me horrors that no man should see kicked my a$$ and stole all my equipment again haha classic you! You're my best friend!" Also your allies will constantly vote on laws that stright up sabotage your playthrough and you have to use a ton of influence to stop it then they vote it back in. Now your choice is either spend all your influence to stop it and not be able to make an army for awhile allowing the enemy to take several towns because your allies sure won't defend them or else let the law pass and screw up your kingdom. The constant war is super annoying as well they also use that to make a grind and try to extend your playthrough. At the end game if you want to go across the map to buy a new weapon or armor itll cost you a city or two because you arent there to defend it against constant war. If the enemy doesnt declare constant war your vassels sure will. It's just a broken game that had and still has so much potential but I really don't see them fixing it.
looking at glassdoor reviews and honestly just the development time of this game kind of explains why its currently in this state. pre release materials had a ton of features that they advertised and for a studio of taleworlds size it was insanely ambitious to say the least. i dont think there's a lack of passion at taleworlds but scope creep, poor management, and lack of resources just eats away at development: suddenly you realize if your team is ever going to ship the damn thing you have to hard shift towards qa and making sure the features you did manage to implement works on a base level. the blame still falls in taleworlds court though, cant blame consumers for your own development hell and you cant blame them when they expect the features you promised to be fully fleshed out with depth. however i think theres a really good reason that no one else really even comes close to emulating what mount and blade is trying to do or even make the attempt despite clear interest in a game like this.
I want to point out that while I love this video, you talk with the expectation that we're familiar with the game. I was really interested in what you had to say but I've never played banner Lord, and I had to fill in a lot of gaps myself.
I really enjoyed this video. I wish there was a way that we could petition some of your ideas to the devs. I love Bannerlords, but I agree with you that it gets monotonous sometimes. They have a great foundation for what could be the best game of all time if they just put some effort into it.
There is absolutely NO excuse for the lack of finish on this game The devs could 100% finish everything that's missing in a matter of 2 months including testing. This is an abandoned game demo. Simple as that.
I used to be like nah I want the intended experience, no mods for me. Now, the first thing I check out is the mods. Rimworld and CitySkylines are both so incredibly enhanced by the addition of mods, it completely flipped my mind. And I have never played Skyrim with mods so I really need to do that. Also the darth mod on MTW2 was my first taste that got me interested in mods.
If youre reading this: you NEED to try to play captain on private servers, its actually sooo much fun and the only gold multiplayer mode IMO. Theres community maps which are soooo good snd the community is actually having FUN with the game mode! Captain is such a good break from the grinding singleplayer sometimes. I hiiiiighly recomend you give it a honest try
And btw i dont ever use the "search game" button ever. Go into browse server and look for captain game mode. If its a full server just refresh a few times and maybe wait five min, theres usually people joining and leaving here and there. Community maps in captain are some of the best moments in multiplayer. AND if you wanna go more hardcore theres many community based multiplayer events which can be fun but annoying to get into sometimes
Liked and Subbed after reaching your mod argument alone. I know you know your shit as an instant green flag when I hear people understand this concept. Looking forward to the rest of the video.
I definitely agree with a lot of the video, but I think that a lot of context behind the development of the game is missing. For start, the size of the team is about 141 people across three continents, which is not a lot for a game of this magnitude. Second, their plan was to originally keep this game in the oven for much longer but there was so much pressure from the community that they ended up having to cut down on development time, and not only that, they were an indie company during much its early development and the more the worked on the game, the more money they lost so they found a middle-ground where the game is in a playable condition. Third, adding more content would very likely break a lot of the mods available. Even with all that, I still firmly believe this game needed more development time. But even if they did update the game with more content, it wouldn't do much for the company money-wise, so now they're probably putting their focus on DLC or another game. You have to remember that they were still an indie company by the time this game released, now they are more of a AA company. So try not to expect AAA quality.
I had a similar thing with elden ring. I wish it had more development time. but with how big the excitement got there was no way they were going to delay it. I don't mind waiting a long time for a game, but other people do and that's the industry now
From someone with 2k hours of gameplay, who supported this game since early access and has been pretty vocal about the lack of content over the years, I just can't thank you enough for this video. I LOVE this game that no other compares. But the overall lack of depth, diplomacy, politics, dynasty features and this feeling of an unfinished game, (also this mods nightmare...), all these things are enough reasons to give up on Bannelord for good. And I'm very sad about it, this game could have so much better than that, such a waste.
It realy is as simple as the devs are too cowardly to take any risk hiring more staff. Therefore we are stuck with the central core of devs being the only ones involved in any way of maintaining M&B. They couldn't give less of a shit about their players, money is already in hand. As an old school M&B I am greatly disappointed, but in now way surprised by Bannerlord's development.
It's nice for multiplayer there's that big mmo mod. And mods like Life in Calradia for roleplaying. Feels like a great platform for expanding on even if the game itself could've used more detail and polish before they ended major updates.
Your complaints are valid but the problem is, if taleworlds appease a part of the fanbase, the other part will start screaming. "Eh, why you made the quest so hard? Eh, why the banner piece is so far away, I want it near me as hideout."
I had a blast playing Bannerlord in early access for 350 hours, then was disappointed to see that the official release added no depth to its bare-bones features. Everything great about the game is also fatally flawed. Having fun building and commanding your army? Well once you discover how OP archers are, you'll never need to use any other infantry type again. Having fun defeating and capturing enemy lords? Well, they will always escape to form new armies and if you execute them everybody will hate you, including your own allies. Having fun capturing towns and castles? Well, you won't get to keep any of them if your King decides to hoard them all for himself. Having fun conquering rival kingdoms? Well, nothing really changes because the lords of any kingdoms you conquer will just join another rival kingdom until they are all wiped out. Overall the Bannerlord experience is as wide as an ocean, but only as deep as a puddle.
💪👍
I think your ideas are great, but I also feel like you don't have any reference for how much dev work is involved in adding even a shortlist of the things you are talking about. I would estimate the time required to add the bulk of what you're suggesting would take 5x the man hours of what has already been invested to make the game.
It’s all to common these days someone needs to stand up to them and sue
Bc money is the only language folks know these days
Yeah you kinda have to rp to get the most out. They are in need of real leadership ( ;
As wide as an ocean, shallower than a puddle.
It’s a feature not a bug.
@@snowi9585 Victoria 2 was better
You might even find a coment from me in a resonant video talking about this years ago.
and mods cant fix it because every tiny "hotfix" the devs do completly break everything. I dont even think the game has a real modding tool?
Played this during the initial steam release in early access, played it yesterday, exact same game…
Except it's somehow buggier in places.
Not entirely the only change I remember though is making kingdoms collapse and not stay existent forever
The diplomacy and kingdom management is so insanely barebones, like it really makes this game lack replayability
Then you are definitely played as much as usual game journalist xD
There are a lot of things that work differently.
Now, I am not saying it's perfect, someone may find current game state not interesting, sure
But there is a difference between early access and current, like heaven and earth
@@Machoman50ta it's still an amazing game, it just has some major flaws.
uthelhaim castle in my playthrough went to 0 fucking prosperity, i feel like it should be destroyed at that point
Mods *definitely* help fill those gaps, look into Diplomacy, between others
😂
Who's got the bigger problem, the AI who sent this, or you who can't read? Jk, jk, I've accidentally unconditionally surrendered after winning a war in the game EU4 more times than I can count so I relate.
@@THEJustinOfAllTime I mean yeah I read that wrong but it's because I never would've thought that this was the actual peace offer.
@@THEJustinOfAllTime It's still an absurd diplomacy offer
Well they are diplomatically superior to you since such a bold offer obviously works out for them.
@@domiepotato 150 hours front loaded isn't great actually.
@@earningattorney9887 wdym?
@domiepotato even if the base game I worth 150 hours without mods it's still not a game that would last.
If you put 150 hours in the first year and then there were no mods you would be less inclined to play. The game would be repetitive and unejoyable meaning after a couple of years with no mods the game would see very little activity
I still dont understand why people love warband so much more its good but looks so dated and also lacks features
Bro you played for 50 hours before doing a quest you’re supposed to do in the first hour.
I've seen some people on reddit go on to complain all of that was too complicated so they prefer Bannerlords robot npc companions
They are randomly generated with patterns applied to thel just random faces/physics often very ugly... lol like all character of the game.
Agreed, fuck moriga. Always makes me clear a sea raider base just to build that dye work. I always, ALWAYS, destroy that fucking town first. If there is a mod to execute him, I would but nooooo anytime I find a good mod, that particular option is gone... I still butcher his army tho.

Realm of Thrones has made a lot of progress so far. They even have working dragons lol
@jonathanoriley8260 indeed! I've been playing it for a couple weeks. It's awesome.
I mean, it exists but you need to download more than one
@@angsern8455 yeah not interested in making my own modlists tbh
We need an actual competent team to make something like VC. But I dont see anyone.
@@Atrahasis7 Sadly, I wish we had companions like in VC in bannerlord. But nah, we instead get randomly generated companions who are not characters at all, they're just for you to exploit, either run a town or a castle or take care of caravans. Boring. Hell, we had better companions in Warband

I don't expect them to do anything else anymore. The modders gave up, the devs collected their money, the players got hyped and forgave all the obvious problems. I have problems in particular with Influence, Renown, Clan tier and relationships being tied to families.

I have 1500 hours on this one. It's my favorite game of all time and I've been gaming for over 30 years. I also agree with all your criticism. I guess it just scratches a very specific itch. I always lose interest once I get a few towns and castles cause the late game is such a slog, but I find myself creating new chars over and over and over again, playing for a week or so, then starting over.
I'm assuming this is the "sergeants take command" command?
@@yahir_mareux yes
I bought this game a while ago and I recently returned to it, but I was quite saddened that basicly nothing new was added.
Yeah like when sieges where supposedly fixed years ago... Nope my troops still refuse to go up the ladders 😅
25:48 Something very simple but impactful in the end game could be having all the remaining factions stop fighting each other and unite against you once you have 50% or more of the map under your control, like what Shogun 2 total war did. It would actually be a better reason than the dragon banner
Then once you've been cut down enough, they start fighting each other again

20:30 That's what Warband did right imo. Each background was unique and impacted the game, especially with how nobles interacted with you
What's bizarre to me is that, at best, you get maybe 30 points in a skill for your background choices.
"Mods should enhance games, not fix it!" Bethesda looks at you with great puzzlement.
These people lick Bethesda’s boots they’re not gonna like this
The game should have player kingdom control and diplomacy.
Those 3 aspects could also be reflected in other kingdoms to make them different:
Khuzaits could have much higher raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and lower army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as steppe raiders and nomads
Sturgians could have high raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence.
Reflecting their militaristic nature and leadership of generals
The Southern Empire could have neutral raid severity, high defensiveness, and high army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as the Empire still under the rightful ruler
The Aserai could have low raid severity, high defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence. Reflecting their mercantile nature and letting them use their desert advantages
Battania could have high raid severity, high aggressiveness, low army prevalence. Reflecting their nature as forest bandits in Warband, and being mostly disorganized
Vlandia could have neutral raid severity, neutral defensiveness, and neutral army prevalence.
Easiest way to get to mid game is the Arena
Go fight in the practice arena until you can survive
Then find the closest tournament and just proceed to follow the arena circuit around keeping whatever winnings improves your armor and sell the rest
By the time you have reached the head if the rankings, you should easily have well over 100,000 gold and a constant stream of influence for being the top of the rankings
At this point you can go buy an army and go take your first castle
One thing I was thinking about
Imagine if bannerlord had AI that could create dialogue phrases based on events that happen in your exact campaign, or that could write a detailed biography about your character in encyclopedia.
The point is, the developers are just not good enough to give us the game we all wanted. Lets hope that mods will do the job.
This video is a lot more tastefully edited and written than your other videos, well done 👍👍.
Thank you!

I've killed Radagos MANY times, and I've never NOT had my siblings. What?
First playthrough I only got Nathanos and the other two were bugged stuck in teenage Limbo.
I've had them every time since then, so it definitely happens to some people.
@@cheesemuffin8129, he stated you DO NOT GET your siblings if you kill him.
A bug vs simply not getting them if you kill him are entirely different.
I think the idea you had with the nobles would work great for endgame, especially if most of the main game had a sensible diplomacy system.
Amazing video, I was disappointed too for the Dragon Banner hahaha
500 hours in and I’m still playing vanilla bannerlord. Great video. This game leaves a lot for the players imagination.
I was enjoying that"
Very informative, got a few chuckles, and I didn't actually know the A.I straight up cheats by teleporting armies, but like another comment said as well "Now it all makes sense"
Thumbs up, dropped a sub.
Wtf are you waffling on about? the multiplayer is much better that WB...

I haven’t played in ages because it was so frustrating…
ideas? so many:
overhaul the smithing and include a fletcher and bowmaker as additional warehouses for each of our cities where certain companions can be assigned to create culture specific arrows and bows (to own a workshop in your own city would require policies to be introduced, once enacted then a companion can be assigned to the workshop and depending on their culture would depend on the bows and arrows they make for us to utilize for our armies and upgrade as a specialist troop guard costing influence) this method of additional warehouses (once enacted) could also be utilized to include barracks and training grounds for our soldiers so when we drop prisoners off at the dungeon, those who would want to join our army from town prisons can be taken from the prison to the barracks which needs space and time to train our troops (as with prisoner upgrades within our party) we could also fully customise our soldiers as a specialist force in our towns mixing armours, weapons, horses, soldiers to create a specialist elite troops like a royal guard, for instance.
successfully take a town.
have workshops as an additional project for each town
complete army workshop using the three tier system.
tier 1: workshop = training grounds, fletcher, bow maker, stables.
tier 2:workshop = warehouse available = barracks, training grounds, fletcher, bow maker. 10% faster training/creation when sergeant/officer is assigned to each workshop, barracks = hold 300 trained soldiers (culture bound, meaning that in order to improve/create any weapon, the weapon that the culture is associated too has to be present when making each weapon meaning f we truly wanted an ubermench army, we really have to travel to find selective workshop companions
tier 3:workshops = training grounds, fletcher, bow maker = 15% faster training/creation when sergeant/officer is assigned to each workshop, barracks = hold 500 trained soldiers, workshop available = royal guard workshop (royal guard workshop = take any soldier and customise them swapping out armours and weapons for each soldier gathered from a rally companion, horses can also be customised the same way and trained to receive pedigree stats with good buffs whilst allowing us to concentrate on the feed of the horses (oats, grain, rye, etc) which effects the horses stability from their own diet (expensive food costa a lot more, harder to find but give good stats for horses.)
rally companion, instead of traversing the land for soldiers, hire a rally companion to rally armies for us with the option to choose who and what soldiers they are to recruit.
Scammerlord is just lucky it doesn't have any real competition.
Yeah, nothing else can scratch the itch, but if anything ever came out that competed, I'd switch pretty quickly.
True, the only game that comes remotely close that I know of is Sands of Salzaar, but that game is from an isometric view and has fantasy elements.
As a Xbox player i appreciate the love shown
These are exactly my thoughts on the game.

Isn't Battle Brother's completely different gameplay wise?
@@ingold1470 yeah the gameplay is different but similar as well in many aspects.
I recently installed some mods that I hope add a bit of depth if not roleplaying fantasy in my brain:
I recommend the Europe Lemmy Project, Board Games with Puluc with the Board XP addon, Arenas Extended Europe Medieval, Taverns Extended Europe.
2 years...and the banner editor is still shit...
It can be a little annoying. Especially when it crashes at random and you realize you have not saved the past 30 minutes of work. They should add some kind of backup feature.
@@sirlee5264 Maybe there is a mod for autosave? ;-)
@@sirlee5264Good to know I'm not the only one. It happens during castle/city sieges for me (I'm on console)
Cmon. Why bother with such a thing. Its not like the game is called bannerlord or something... smh :D
On the combat morale. Getting rid of the commander will trigger if they will run or flee, determining the commanders skills .
Pretty sure the only thing they learned from m&b 2 is that they shouldn't make a m&b 3 xD
18:39 brb gonna give the dragon banner to mochung
Damn, what a great video ! I like your way of talking and explaining things !
looking at glassdoor reviews and honestly just the development time of this game kind of explains why its currently in this state. pre release materials had a ton of features that they advertised and for a studio of taleworlds size it was insanely ambitious to say the least. i dont think there's a lack of passion at taleworlds but scope creep, poor management, and lack of resources just eats away at development: suddenly you realize if your team is ever going to ship the damn thing you have to hard shift towards qa and making sure the features you did manage to implement works on a base level. the blame still falls in taleworlds court though, cant blame consumers for your own development hell and you cant blame them when they expect the features you promised to be fully fleshed out with depth. however i think theres a really good reason that no one else really even comes close to emulating what mount and blade is trying to do or even make the attempt despite clear interest in a game like this.
I want to point out that while I love this video, you talk with the expectation that we're familiar with the game. I was really interested in what you had to say but I've never played banner Lord, and I had to fill in a lot of gaps myself.
A big gripe I have with the game is that you can't play campaign with a friend.
I really enjoyed this video. I wish there was a way that we could petition some of your ideas to the devs. I love Bannerlords, but I agree with you that it gets monotonous sometimes. They have a great foundation for what could be the best game of all time if they just put some effort into it.
There is absolutely NO excuse for the lack of finish on this game
The devs could 100% finish everything that's missing in a matter of 2 months including testing.
And great video btw! Agree with everything you said. Ai stupidity drives me insane every. Single. Campaign. Its like it wasnt even made for the game😂😂
Liked and Subbed after reaching your mod argument alone. I know you know your shit as an instant green flag when I hear people understand this concept.
Looking forward to the rest of the video.
Bad enough to not keep me entertained for too long, good enough to make me keep wanting to come back.
I don't mind waiting a long time for a game, but other people do and that's the industry now
True and I believe that had to redo it from scratch atleast once because of the engine
I hope they will sell to paradox, the management loath the game in such a bad manner that even the anounced events are "not listed".
Why? So they can DLC is to death?
Paradox is dowing the same bad shit too.
They are not in a good state in therms of management and fairness to the players.
Paradox is no good either, they shit out half baked games every year
How do you suggest paradox? Have you not seen what they did to Victoria? Paradoxs games are becoming worse by the year
It realy is as simple as the devs are too cowardly to take any risk hiring more staff.
Bethesda modders: First time?
Hoestly, I always played the Neretzes' Folly quest as you described, talking with the lords as I bump into them while sandboxing.
Your complaints are valid but the problem is, if taleworlds appease a part of the fanbase, the other part will start screaming.
"Eh, why you made the quest so hard? Eh, why the banner piece is so far away, I want it near me as hideout."
so they should just keep doing nothing?
Yall prefer Warband or Bannerlord?
Warband.
