Ironically in many ways the game is HARDER when you're just in charge of a small army in a big one. The AI is UNDERPREDICTED AF and does all kinds of dumb shit. It's possible even an experienced player like me would still lose this battle over and over. I haven't done it yet but someday I may have people send me their saved game of a battle they can't seem to win and let me try... then I could record and show if there is any solution I can find...
Damn this was cool , why dont u do a gameplay? I pretty much wanna see how u do to conquer all the world in bannerlord :D, also this tactic is Op since Atila used it to conquer alot of territory , thou they were horse archers
Ya, I may eventually do more of a campaign playthrough. For the time being with so many series going on continuously, the closest you'll see me do for a campaign playthrough is the Peasants revolt which shows much of the inner workings of how I play. Check it out if you're interested.
Is that where the green/blackish 'Scottish watch plaid comes from? It's the colors I typically prefer in clothing, it looks great! I have only small amount of Scots in the family, more German and English, but we all love to be Scots sometimes!
@HeadlessHorsemanProductions hahaha, technically everyone is part Scottish, we are a randy... I mean friendly lot. There are lots of different tartan colours depending on clan... and often how drunk the wool weaver was. :D
It's also a temporary solution too as archers with a lot of arrows can simply close in on it, shoot at close range and obliterate even a square. Makes me want to try an example. Thanks!
Not directly no. There are two or three months that I use that do increase the strength of enemy armies, and by increasing the strength of enemy armies you make combat more difficult. If you're interested see the mods in the description. And thank you!
Would appreciate to see how you battle Vlandia. In my campaign, they’ve been the most well rounded fighting force. Their banner knights are extremely lethal. Winning battles, but suffering heavy casualties almost every time.
Great timing - I just fought one of these 'weaker army' battles against the Vlandians, and while the tactics were very advanced and perhaps difficulty to emulate, it was a success, Banner Knights and all. Stay tuned, processing and an upload later this week bud.
ohhh RTS Camera, wonder if u can do that while your not in RTS mode But i mean the real general back then facing the war with 1st person perspective and still pull some great massive tactic. Amazing

It was a cold day over the woods of caldera. I was halted by a lord on my way to trade grain. They out numbered us 8-1. Our only advantage being our infantry slightly outnumbered there’s. My men were not warriors but rather farmers and tradesmen, however they were brave. With our archers a joke compared to that of the enemies hoard and the only horse in our posey being the one I sat upon. my men took cover behind a hill to await there approaching fait. We prayed to our gods and made peace with each other. The enemy marched in formation. Seeming to mock my rag tag group of peasants with the ground shaking steps of there army. A unstoppable wall of death, or so we thought… I ran in circles around them slashing there horse men down one by one dodging and draining all there arrows. By the time the lines met my troops where eager for war and all 90 of there Calvary had fallen to my blade. There arrows where drained and my men where out for blood. They fought long and hard. Holding there line while my few messily archers now had the only arrows on the field. We stained the grass in our enemies blood that day, and soon I swore to topple their empire. My arch nemesis, valandia must fall. BATTANIA WILL LIVE FOREVER!!!
I love it brother! People who play bannerlord without role-playing a little bit are missing out and I think most people with a strong imagination make out of fun backstory to their campaign. It makes it that much more intense. Cheers!
Now imagine the sturgians went into a square formation lmao. You'd be scrambling trying to get your archers to retrieve arrows. Good stuff though! Wish more people had good tactics such as yours. Most videos I watch are the basic "Inf in square, two archer divs on each edge, and cav on the flanks." bull crap. That tactic doesn't work on higher difficulties! Good stuff man.
Thank you sir - I'm trying to cultivate a new breed of tactician, the deep-thinking strategist, wild-eyed scientist crushing everything before him with his brain first and brawn second.
I haven't tinkered with battlefield control too much as I'm in the process of leveling skills still (new player), can I keep the overhead view without the RTS mod?
A square formation and wait till the skirmishers run out of ammo should be the ai response in these cases then turtle their way the melee charges, oddly enough the AI only pulls out that move when outnumbered or when the odds aint in their favor, when they have the edge will pursue mindlessly.
Yes, particularly for your main kiting divisions. 30% speed banners, quite frankly, are very overpowered if the enemy doesn't have them because you control much of the battle initiative, ie. WHEN things happen.
But what i will say is after watching ive done substantially better! Even losing the battle we put a substantial dent in their army. Thanks man, at this point I'm just practicing my kiting skills. I may need more archers as my army currently has only 80
Cpt wise: if i, in pre battle fase, only have one group with a cpt but, after the battle starts, i divide them into several, do all the groups keep the cpt bonuses?
No, these are different bonuses. There are bonuses that your guys give the army BEFORE battle, like medicine skills, but the Captains are units that give JUST that army division(1-8) bonuses and I think ONLY while he is still alive.
I tried a strat with Battania where I took t1-t3 infantry only, with t4-t5 archers, I put my infantry blobbed up in a two man deep long line and two small divisions on the flanks in square, I put the squares up front to let the Vlandians charge in on the flanks and hit my infantry squares instead of my archers, I then pulled them back closer to my main infantry line to help against the enemy infantry, and the entire time this is happening my archers are pelting the enemy cavs backs and my infantry are in shield wall/square giving them protection against the enemy archers, the only problem I had was the enemy infantry at the beginning where the sergeants destroyed my clan warriors, but the squares did a nice flank and destroyed them, and the biggest obstacle the ending casualties, the enemy archers could, would, and did pelt my archers/infantry, so I'd say cav would help alot, not to much but a little to counteract the enemy archers, as if you have a campaign where it's hard to get units then having 200 dead and another 200 wounded while you have an army of 600 against the Western-Empire whence you only have one city and two castles, it happened to me trust me you don't want that.
Previous version - I've been lucky enough to keep mine stable(somehow) and not get updates. Also most of my videos were produced weeks before you see them(I have a back-log), and then I process them/add music, polish, etc so you're watching a dated game update often times...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions oh i see thank you! also sorry to bother you but is the troop formation display (those little bright green orbs that tells you where troops will be positoned) from a mod or a previous game version? in my game the display is a dark green flag wich is absolutly lost to the sight when commanding from far away or big battles lol
2 mins into the video and I already gotta say, I get the idea showing off tactics to win with low level troops, and that can come into play sometimes. But fact of it is by the time you are 304 army capped..... there is no "weak army" With the xp gains per day perks alone your dudes would level. Plus breaking off and attacking a few smaller groups or brigands would also level them up. Not to mention once you take the Weapon/Donation perk you can boost them that way. Do it with like 20 dudes next...
There is actually a scenario where I need to use weak troops and that happens in repeated battles back to back and sometimes to back. Often if I have to fight three or four battles in a row by the last battle I'm really down to the lower tiered troops in my army and I have fought through and won some of those battles even though they've been incredibly difficult. Granted that's a rare occasion you're right most of the time in my campaign I had an elite army. I'd say the main reason for the series this is show people the value of tactics. My own experience with very small battles like 20 on 20 is that tactics don't really apply that much with the exception of things like kiting. You can't perform major flanking maneuvers surrounding etc or even make infantry squares with 20 people
Depends on how well you've refined your skills and practiced. For me after dozens of these kind of battles, yes it's fairly easy without the RTS Mod: ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions i tried horse archers a couple of times and that seems to be kinda boring because horse archers can usually deal with everyone if they have enough arrows
@@S.Gamedev-zc2wp Yes, I've tried a khuzait campaign and while I was often able to win battles, it was tedious enough and slow battles so I got tired of it and went back to my main campaign.
Because a lot of people consider this an exploit, and we don't need to in order to win... I just had a battle against 10,000(!), not kidding, and we didn't retreat for ammo there either..
I do definitely appreciate the info your putting out there. But saying stugians have among the strongest infantry seems very weird. There were tests done in sets of 10 trying to determine infantry VS other infantry and also vs superior numbers of mixed infantry. The tests were done, I think 2 years ago, so maybe that has changed. But generally sturgias top tier infantry didn't perform very great in those tries.
I think it's always hard to look at a unit vs. unit comparison and make final decisions. Sturgians maybe don't beat LEGIONARY straight up, but their huge shields are terrific protection against arrows, their line-breakers are devastating and axemen also very strong. Finally, their heavy spearman are probably one of the very strongest DEFENSIVE units in the game.
Интересно, но MaB BL - не Total War. Суть в том, чтобы руководить и сражаться от лица военачальника, а не двигать подразделения, наблюдая их с высоты птичьего полёта.
I agree. Total war view is cool and everything but in reality commanding your army on horse is damn near impossible to pull this off.No medieval commander in history had a drone to command their army. This video doesn't help anyone trying to play the game as intended.
I'm afraid I don't agree most spear cavalrying in vanilla banner Lord is terrible. Khan's guard and the vanguard Ferris are good everything else is trash
I love manipulating the enemy movement with my infantry in dense squares off to the side. If they surround my square, they're gonna get hit in the back by arrows. If they ignore the infantry, I ask them to charge from behind once they pass them and then my archers can hit them from behind and my infantry is densely packed on one of their flanks which evaporate quickly. The enemy archers meanwhile are busy shooting at my cavalry that are charging at them with shields up
It can be hard to organize this tactic on the ground level but we have entire series dedicated to the 'killbox' and I can fairly routinely pull this off as a Commander on a horse. Admittedly without practice, it's a harder affair.
Hah, pretty much, just with a few nuances... I originally learned kiting years ago in PvP games and it's perfectly applicable to both multiplayer and single player bannerlord.
Thanks! Yeah, it doesn't work terrific against huge amounts of cavalry(or archers), but it still destroys a hybrid army: ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html
That's what they should do, but they can't... (and why I use 8 divisions). Somday if Bannerlord(or a mod) allows for 500 vs 500 pvp, the guys using more army groups and fighting coherently with them will probably be winning the most...

Either I control cav and infantry does just dumb sht and what the main infantry division does basically controls the flow of battle or I control infantry and my best unit, my cav, just kind of does nothing but fight the other cav. I need them on the infantry and archers. Anyway would like to see what you do without full control in such a situation.
Plad pyjamas! Scottish picts used to fight sky clad, naked except for blue woed dye... the pj's came later... probably a celtic pagan holiday gift.
My complain woth doing unit tactics is that i want to seperate the tier 1 from the tier 5 but is so fucking hard with the mechanic implemented
Use the unit tier preferences in the pre-battle menu and it should be easy to do so: ruclips.net/video/z8dtwNiCfgM/видео.html
The only anwser to 4 direction archer is square formation but i dont think the ai can do it
It's also a temporary solution too as archers with a lot of arrows can simply close in on it, shoot at close range and obliterate even a square. Makes me want to try an example. Thanks!
cool channel! is there any combat enhancing mods that buff ai difficulty? i play with rbm. thanks.
Also stuggling with Vlandia and their massive army sizes (They are fking rich in every campaign so far 😅)
What if they had chosen to divide forces by sending 300 units forward and 150 to face the enemies from behind?
We probably lose haha, though I look forward to this kind of challenge.
ohhh RTS Camera, wonder if u can do that while your not in RTS mode
But i mean the real general back then facing the war with 1st person perspective and still pull some great massive tactic. Amazing
I am comfortable with the killbox without the RTS mod, but it's easier for me to show others the version I am sharing here.
This is how it looks in normal gameplay: ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html

Uh... Your outnumbered two to one there buddy. Hes going to win this battle? Yeesh... This should be fun.
We EAT 2 for 1's for breakfast! :)
Archers: Sir the enemy is over that hill we can't shoot! The commander: - It's soon 17.00 It's almoust time for tea! - But Sir! - I SAID Tea time! 😂
haha, no doubt, cocky and expecting to win, no tea for them...
It hurts to know that this stuff works, but people i end up talking to just think in rock paper scissors and say tactics and strategy dont matter.
Do you know that saying about you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink? That's exactly what you're talking about here...
You can use a sort of kill box against cav as long as it’s a 4 wall with heavy infantry
It's also possible with horse archers, just MUCH harder because they dont fish ball
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions such a pain but they all fall
I haven't tinkered with battlefield control too much as I'm in the process of leveling skills still (new player), can I keep the overhead view without the RTS mod?
Unfortunately no, the RTS mod provides the overhead view and that's not available in vanilla bannerlord
A square formation and wait till the skirmishers run out of ammo should be the ai response in these cases then turtle their way the melee charges, oddly enough the AI only pulls out that move when outnumbered or when the odds aint in their favor, when they have the edge will pursue mindlessly.
Yep, though even a square would be fuct, as we'd just get closer with our own javelins and archers and pound them at point blank.
Wich RTS mod are you using?
I'm almost sure the latest? Game 1.2.8.31530
Excellent video , I assume troop speed increasing perks, banners are extremely good with this kind of playing ?
Yes, particularly for your main kiting divisions. 30% speed banners, quite frankly, are very overpowered if the enemy doesn't have them because you control much of the battle initiative, ie. WHEN things happen.
Attempting this challeneg right now, question what if there was no ridge? Just an open area. What would you do ?
Still kiting with archers and skirmishers, but you're not going to have an easy time as this...
@HeadlessHorsemanProductions yea probably on my 13th try lmao I have 266 troops to their 566
But what i will say is after watching ive done substantially better! Even losing the battle we put a substantial dent in their army. Thanks man, at this point I'm just practicing my kiting skills. I may need more archers as my army currently has only 80
is this total war like tactical bird perspective a mod?
Yep, RTS mod. Indispensable now.
17:00 - Stormtroopers with good aim meme
LOL I'm sure you're referring to that amazing video LOL
Cpt wise: if i, in pre battle fase, only have one group with a cpt but, after the battle starts, i divide them into several, do all the groups keep the cpt bonuses?
No, these are different bonuses. There are bonuses that your guys give the army BEFORE battle, like medicine skills, but the Captains are units that give JUST that army division(1-8) bonuses and I think ONLY while he is still alive.
So when we see the Sturgian infantry... We RuN... Away
Yes, run, then kill in another way :)
Sounds like a very strong tactic and I think almost anytime you have infantry and squares and fians behind them you're going to have a good day LOL
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions Yea but still impressive in my opinion.
i like to have strong bowmans, wich nation i should pick? sorry about my english ty!
Battania or Vlandia for sure. Then whichever you pick, add some of the others...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions thanks!
How can you do this strategy on console?
I don't see why not though I've never played on console.
You'd need to move fast by riding on a horse. And keep the positions you want your troops to move to next, in view.
@@TheRandomizedMedia THIS
There’s a working RTS on the current version?
I think I am 1.28 something, it works well as of today, May 12th, 2024.
So good
Thank you!
How you go in RTS mode ?
It's a mod you have to add:
www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/355
are you using RTS camera mod? did you get it to work for 1.2.9 or are you playing on previous versions?
Previous version - I've been lucky enough to keep mine stable(somehow) and not get updates. Also most of my videos were produced weeks before you see them(I have a back-log), and then I process them/add music, polish, etc so you're watching a dated game update often times...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions oh i see thank you! also sorry to bother you but is the troop formation display (those little bright green orbs that tells you where troops will be positoned) from a mod or a previous game version? in my game the display is a dark green flag wich is absolutly lost to the sight when commanding from far away or big battles lol
RTS mod, you want it - go get it!
"How To Crush Strong Armies with Weak Troops" *Ctrl + Alt + F4* 😉
You can't perform major flanking maneuvers surrounding etc or even make infantry squares with 20 people
Is it easy to do it without RTS mod?
Depends on how well you've refined your skills and practiced. For me after dozens of these kind of battles, yes it's fairly easy without the RTS Mod:
ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html
Plaid pajamas KILLED ME 😅😂😂😂
lol, it's a thing vs. Battania
Why do they mindlessly chase the infantry? is that like an AI aggro bug/exploit. Why wouldn't they just turn and chase your archers
Just how the game is built.
Definitely effective with khusaut horse archers
Yep, haven't played much as Khuzait myself, but I was able to maul enemies using horse archers in custom battles...
Why not retreat to reset ammo?
Because a lot of people consider this an exploit, and we don't need to in order to win... I just had a battle against 10,000(!), not kidding, and we didn't retreat for ammo there either..
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions lol hope you recorded it! I wish there was like an arrow cart to resupply so you don’t have to retreat
4:25 A certain Barca would recognize that
Taught me half the things I know. ruclips.net/video/hZOQX4W7ZxI/видео.html
This is not doable on horse, u need rts mode to micro manage two things at once
Yeah I hear that a lot. It's possible, with some practice.
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions nah, binged few of your videos, i see why it's easy for you
I agree. Total war view is cool and everything but in reality commanding your army on horse is damn near impossible to pull this off.No medieval commander in history had a drone to command their army. This video doesn't help anyone trying to play the game as intended.
This guy was Marcos Aurelius 😂😂😂
lol, thanks mate, he was a great one!
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions
It seems to me you have a lot of life years of experience.
Awesome content, awesome tactics
Wish you Good life brother 🙌
nice
Vlandia has crazy good cav bro
I'm afraid I don't agree most spear cavalrying in vanilla banner Lord is terrible. Khan's guard and the vanguard Ferris are good everything else is trash
I love manipulating the enemy movement with my infantry in dense squares off to the side. If they surround my square, they're gonna get hit in the back by arrows. If they ignore the infantry, I ask them to charge from behind once they pass them and then my archers can hit them from behind and my infantry is densely packed on one of their flanks which evaporate quickly. The enemy archers meanwhile are busy shooting at my cavalry that are charging at them with shields up
We think alike, hombre, very much alike.
You would have soooo much more trouble doing this without the RTS mod. You just wouldn't be able to see as well
It can be hard to organize this tactic on the ground level but we have entire series dedicated to the 'killbox' and I can fairly routinely pull this off as a Commander on a horse. Admittedly without practice, it's a harder affair.
Yeah! Nerf that guy in particular! Lol. I know that feeling IRL..
Gave him a bow for the next fight haha!

Repeat enfilade charging and you can rack up thousands and thousands of damage
Yep, concur!
So it’s the same strategy as when you first boot up the game and fight your first few looters and whatnot that outnumber you: kite them to death
Hah, pretty much, just with a few nuances... I originally learned kiting years ago in PvP games and it's perfectly applicable to both multiplayer and single player bannerlord.
Way harder to do this in foot from the field
Agreed, but not impossible, especially with practice it becomes fairly routine.
This would be difficult without rts camera not gonna lie
With practice, not too hard: ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html
They should add an rts mode to the base game
Agreed!
Not to diss, but this is almost only possible against that kinda bulk infantry sturgia army, good video tho
Thanks! Yeah, it doesn't work terrific against huge amounts of cavalry(or archers), but it still destroys a hybrid army: ruclips.net/video/4UMUXPEtAFA/видео.html
do this against valandia
Here's a good example of how to maul Vlandia with weak troops: ruclips.net/video/hQV9tAAkdsY/видео.html
Try winning with iust hidden hand troops.
I'd rather grate my head with a cheese grater. Probably the worst clan in bannerlord.
imagine replace those 74 archers with khan's guard... oops massacre xD
Yep. Hopefully people understand well that if you can win with mediocre troops, you'll CRUSH IT with elite ones...
split up the fish ball and go all 4 directions.
That's what they should do, but they can't... (and why I use 8 divisions). Somday if Bannerlord(or a mod) allows for 500 vs 500 pvp, the guys using more army groups and fighting coherently with them will probably be winning the most...
