@@shredaintdead9323 yeah! I played a lot of blues with a vox ac15c1, real picky with pedals, now I'm back to my roots, play in a rock band and tried a couple of borrowed pedals, sounds real good, now I'm searching for a phaser
One thing you will notice in the rigs of many big players are a lot of pedals. It doesn't matter if they have high gain tube monsters like Soldanos, Bogners, Boogies, etc. They always want something more. Some players with big amp endorsements don't even use those amps, and if they do, they are only using them as a pedal platform, running through the clean channel even, then using a floor-based system like Ax/Fx, Line 6, or other similar systems. Although Uli Roth has an endorsement with Blackstar he runs them clean and gets his overdrive from a series of pedals and a massive built-in gain boost in his Sky guitars which have very powerful active pups that require so much power he uses a floor-based power supply rather than a battery because the actives eat batteries like popcorn. What we see from the audience doesn't always reflect reality. It only tells you who puts bread on the table for big players.
@@shredaintdead9323 Never underestimate a humble pedal. The SD-1, the DS-1, the Tube Screamer, are all legendary. I've owned more pedals than I can count and sold off all but a few last year. The only overdrive pedal I have now is the SD-1 Waza Craft edition. The SD-1, like the DS-1 and TS are what are known as transparent pedals. Through a clean amp they sound like nothing at all. But when you add some dirt these pedals work magic. They contour the gain and the eq and add more texture to your tone. A pedal like a Rat is what is known as a dirty petal. They can make a clean amp a lot gnarlier. The ideal amp for an 80s tone is either a JCM or JCM-like amp, like a DSL or JVM, with a good transparent overdrive pedal to shape the gain into something awesome.

Hey man just subscribed to your channel. From what I hear of the Marshall DSL100HR it sounds absolutely killer!.I’m wondering will the DSL20HR sound the exact same just at Lower volumes or will there be some tonal differences between these amps?.Thanks
Right on thanks! The main difference is the 100 has more channels, better clean and more volume and headroom from the 2 extra el34 power tubes. Tonally the 20 is very similar though
