That tone between 10 min and 11 is KILLER! Was the presence all the way down there too? What speakers in the cab? Killer demo, thanks!! I could tell you were having fun
Hey Carsten, I like the high gain tones you’re producing. I just got one of these. Only had a couple hours to try it out so far. Think I definitely need a tube screamer to tighten it up. What cab is that you’re using and what speakers are in it? I’m using a 212 that came with the head in a bundle deal. Not shure if I dig it. Thinkin I might need something with vintage 30s in it. I think my cab has the 70/80s ? So what cab and what speakers are you using there? Nice playing by the way. I totally love playing obnoxious high gain guitar.
Thanks man! The cab is a regular Marshall 1960 loadad with Celestions G12T-75. What speakers are in your 212? I tried the head with several cabs and speakers. They all sounded great. A tube screamer or any booster of your taste will work wonders though.
Hey thanks for such a quick response. My cab is a Marshal MX212AR. It’s loaded with Celestion Seventy 80 speakers. I went with this rig cause it seems like a nice high gain amp that’s budget friendly. About to go do some playing and more experimenting. It definitely needs some tightening up. I’ll have to get myself a tube screamer. Trying some other stuff but not quite there yet. Thanks man.
@@DaN-up7me Hey, yeah I find the seventy 80 speakers to not be so good in high gain and generally only like it for cleaner stuff in an open back combo. My suggestion is to go with a pair of something of the greenback inspired variety, be it a proper greenback for the classic marshall kind of vibe, creamback 65 for a little smoother top end and a bit more low end than the greenback, or G12H30 Anniversary for more broad mids. But if super tightness if your goal, you may want to pair one of those with a V30 to balance it out.
Hey, I got some tones I’m diggin. Think I needed to break them speakers in. I’m using a boss bass overdrive in front of the ultra gain channel. Pretty chunky and crunchy. I wanna get my hands on a TS9. I’m guessing I would like V30s for speakers. A lot of the tones I like are using that speaker. I wanted a Mesa. Just not in the budget. Nice video Carsten! Have you tried this in a band situation? Will it be loud enough for rehearsals or even smaller gigs? For reference/comparison an Orange Jim Root Terror (15W) works quite well in that sence according to me. Just put a clean boost in the loop and there you have a volume boost (almost two channels)!
Thank you so much! ✌ Haven't tried it in a band context yet, but I'd say if you use it in a small practise room with a hard hitting drummer, it might get critical. For live I'd say it's perfect. I always mic my amp and play quieter live, than at rehearsals. The booster in the loop is a fantastic idea. Why didn't I come up with that?! 😅
@@CarstenStepanowicz Yes, a clean boost in the loop is a wonderful trick. Try MXR Microamp for example. Works great! And when it comes to loud enough. The cabinett does have a huge impact on that off course... A 4x12 will move lots of air while a 1x12...
i play mine in a semi-small rehersal room with a REALLY hart hitting drummer and the kick drum amplified over the PA and a loud-as-hell Bass Player plus 2nd Guitarists. we play modern punk/hardcore sound. i play trough a 4x12 Fryette and boost with a BOOS GE-7 which makes for a nice tight high gain sound. on the gain channel i am never beyond 12 o'clock and on the classic channel around 10...11 o'clock for the mid-gain stuff (with an OCD in front). this amp is lound as hell and has no problems keeping up at all. those saying it is not loud enough, played their 100 W heads for too long on max volume :-) @Carsten: turn down the presence to 9 o'clock or even lower und adjust highs and mids as needed. the fizzyness is in the overly brightness of the presence. its kind of annoying. the only annoying thing about this amp

I know this is an old video a d this was asked 4 months ago but these are in the 115db range cranked. Its not quiet at all. A 50 watt is about 5-10db louder cranked. A 100 watt is another 5db cranked.
I agree that the Voice button does the DSL no good. It's like Marshall's very poor attempt at a djenty tone, and that's just not Marshall's thing, and the djent crowd are not Marshall friendly, but prefer amps like the Mesa Recto and Peavey 6550, etc. When I hear a Marshall I want to hear a clear, biting crunch, which is what you get...till you push the awful voice button. So far as I'm concerned, the DSL line get all the gain I'd every need. The only issue I have with Marshall is they are very spiky sounding. From day to day, the amps just don't sound the same, and you really have to let them warm up to get any tonal stability. This is why I haven't owned a Marshall since 1994. I've found that Boogies, Fenders, Randalls (tube) and Peaveys work great for me and give me a lot more control.
My friend bought this amp and a mx412 which is the suggested cab for it. He hated it and kept it quiet because it sounded best low volume and would be kinda odd if he turned it up. I took it and used it for two weeks and all the issue was is the speakers needed to be hit with higher output to break them in. After that it became dynamic responsive and musical. Just a heads up for people buying the head and a new cab. Gotta break it in.

Anniversary for more broad mids.
Harley Benton supposedly makes a 212 cab with V30s for a steel.
Awesome tone man, is that cab loaded with chinese made g12 T75?
Thank you very much! 🙌Yes, made in China G12T75. ✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz even so sounds awesome but the other video o did with greenbacks really did justice to the classic hard rock tones that amp can achieve, keep them coming man that amp is amazing but you really seem knowing how to dial it right 🤘
@@PedroPereira-iw1rk Thank you ever so much! 🙌 And indeed, I prefer the Grenbacks also! 🤘
Great demo video!!!!
Thank you very much Eric! Glad you like it! 🤘❤
I'm sorry for the dumb question... but at 4:50 what were your settings?!
Basically everything at 1 o clock except the presence control is at 9 o clock. And it's a fantastic question btw, since my close up shot didn't work out as planned in the video. 😂✌
Great playing!! Sounds like it can cover some Steel Panther? How does this amp compare to the SC20?
Thank you mate! Haven't had the chance to try one out yet. I assume the SC20 has a little bit less gain on board. The amp is perfect for SP sounds! 😅✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz do these get loud enough to hang with a drummer and a band?
@@cragginshred If you haven't the loudest drummer in the world behind the kit the amp will be loud enough. ✌
Do you think the amp is oud enough for rehearsing and small gigs? I'm in a metal band if that helps
It helps. If you do not have the loudest drummer mankind has ever seen, you'll be good to go. 😅
Awesome amp! Sound fantastic!
You also play very nice!
I had an Ibanez Thrash Metal from that tank series, and it sucked! lol
What cab is that?
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
Haha. 😃 Thank you so much! It's a regular Marshall 4x12 Cab. ✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz do you know what speaker models are on it?
It really screams!
It's a JCM 900 with G12T-75 speakers. ✌
Nice demo,DSL20 i'm coming..😁
Thank you Frank! 🙌 Have fun with a killer amp! 🤘🥳
@@CarstenStepanowicz your welcome,i'm so excited..😁
@@CarstenStepanowicz how to buy .do you have link.

@@VikingTorolf Will try! When I'm not using my Kemper, I always go for the 4x12. Air needs to be moved. 😀
It cuts through the mix as hot knive through butter.
My drummer is always begging me to lower the volume a bit 😀
i play mine in a semi-small rehersal room with a REALLY hart hitting drummer and the kick drum amplified over the PA and a loud-as-hell Bass Player plus 2nd Guitarists. we play modern punk/hardcore sound. i play trough a 4x12 Fryette and boost with a BOOS GE-7 which makes for a nice tight high gain sound.
on the gain channel i am never beyond 12 o'clock and on the classic channel around 10...11 o'clock for the mid-gain stuff (with an OCD in front).
this amp is lound as hell and has no problems keeping up at all.
those saying it is not loud enough, played their 100 W heads for too long on max volume :-)
@Carsten: turn down the presence to 9 o'clock or even lower und adjust highs and mids as needed. the fizzyness is in the overly brightness of the presence. its kind of annoying. the only annoying thing about this amp
What DiMarzios are you using in that RG? They sound great.
Thanks mate! These are stock pick ups. If I remember correctly they are called DiMarzio IBZ. ✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz Some of those IBZ pups sound great. Especially if they're made by DiMarzio.
It's always hard for my ears from this end but can it emulate any Dokken/Lynch Mob tones?
Emulate...Well, if we could play like George...😅
@@CarstenStepanowicz hahah sorry misusage of the word. I'm not native in english. I play over a crappy mod amp and would like to come close to that specific tone without busting the bank..so can it ? :)
@@CarstenStepanowicz oh and yes George is transcended god so playing like him is a no go to begin with :P
If you crank the gain, it can. 😀
Hi, what amp would you recommend me, orange cr120h or marshall dsl20hr?
Hi Diego! It's really a matter of taste. I'm a Marshall guy all the way and would recommend the DSL20HR (not solid state 😂). ✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz mmm that’s ok, how well does marshall dsl20hr take pedals?? I’m looking for Frusciante (RHCP) tone

Thank you so very much! ✌ Haven't tried the H&K yet, but I recommend the DSL 20HR day & night. 😅
@@CarstenStepanowicz THANKS BROTHER ! Please tell me one more thing- Did you try it via integrated emulated output?
That is the primary reason why I like H&K ....... AND OF COURSE THE COSMIC BLU LIGHT!😁
@@myguitarcloud5987 Haven't tried it yet. But I assume with a good IR it will sound decent. To be fair, if you consider to use the amp mostly as a recording tool without a real cab, maybe the H&K might be the better option. ✌
@@CarstenStepanowicz Hmmmm... I assume that also..... Thank you for your time brotha! See ya on instagram:)
you think this can play with a band using a 2x12?
For sure! ✌
This video and Lambchopper sold me on this tiny fucker. You made that 20-watter sound like a tank
@@mctwishvonnoodles9793 Awesome! Thanks! And congrats to a great amp! 🤘❤️
1:06 you just pulled a Iron Maiden there for a moment
By accident. 😂✌
Yep. That's what a Marshall is for, green lite off.
🤘❤️
Do you think this watt can gig ?
Absolutely, don't worry! 🤘
Then you might dig the sound from the Marshall JVM. ✌
What speakers did you use?
G12T-75. ✌
Thank you :)
Incredibile sound....
Thank you very much! 🙌
Thanks for making the best demo ever ! I can hear and see what your doing little by little compared to moron editing where i can't see anything.
