    I listened to a lot of demos of both these pedals and played both at GC. Both do different things VERY WELL so instead of choosing one over the other I bought them both and I'm happy I did because when they're stacked together they give you an amazing tone and separately they're unique enough to make each worthwhile to purchase and use on their own! I love that little bit of flubbiness of the SD-1.

  • @shader26

    Very nice. I would really have liked to hear both in a mix, and how they both clean up with guitar volume and picking attack but that wasn’t the scope of this, so still gave a good sense of the tonal differences.

    Great demo and done with the right amp. I love both pedals. The Blues Driver has a generally smoother, creamier overdrive. It doesn't have the aggressive diode clipping like the SD-1. But both pedals can be used for hard rock and medal. It's just that the Blues Driver works better from a blues kind of tone.

    sd 1 gets a nice tight chug in front of the gain tone, whereas the bd really sings in front of the lead channel. When I see demos of things like the OD-200 and the ME-80 (which run through all the boss pedal sounds), the BD really stands out each time.

  • @stk7778
    @stk7778 4 года назад +3

    what's interesting is through your rig the BD2 sounds more natural at noon, whereas with my practice rig at home it's the opposite. the bd2 is definitely more level and gain, but the gain sounds artificially fuzzy to me through a black face. that marshall as your base tone is nice! and yeah, i find the bd2 is good for kicking in and boosting drive channels and other drive pedals to another level or givn a nice round boost to a clean (gain is down and drive is up on the pedal) and the sd is better for a channel 2 approach with the gain up to taste--i use it like a "green pedal" and prefer the boss sound to the green one in most instances....the sd definitely cleans up nice with volume knob roll downs....

    Good comparison but a guitar with single coil pickups should've been included for a fuller picture. Also, the sounds they were made to produce are probably not what these pedals were primarily designed for, although, it proves their versatility!
    I have an SD-1 and a BD-2w and when playing a single coil Tele, I prefer the SD-1. Speaking as an "advanced beginner" :-) the SD-1 is just a lot more approachable. I was forever fiddling with the settings on the BD-2w but never was 100% happy. When I got the SD-1, everything just fell into place. It was all very simple and it was easy to dial in whatever sound I wanted. A pro might have a different take but for me, SD-1 all the way. With a Tele... ;-)

      The SD-1 is not the DS-1, both serve different purposes to the BD-2. The BD-2 is a decent option for faux low to medium gain at bedroom volumes, the SD-1 is a boost to push an amps distortion (like a Screamer), and the DS-1 is harsh distortion and a great Punk pedal.

  • @sisoldi
    @sisoldi 4 года назад +5

    BD-2 is good for faking a 2nd channel to a single channel amp where it doesn't take out your lows, where the SD-1 and its low cut/mid boost is good for solo boosting with the drive down and level up, With these 2 pedals and a TS-9 type pedal, your good to go.

      @@frankscassi4960 The clipping is the difference:
      TS-9: Symmetrical clipping
      SD-1: Asymmetrical clipping

    • @frankscassi4960
      @frankscassi4960 4 года назад +1

      @@sisoldi the difference between the two clipping is very subtle. You can put a switch on one of the two pedals to hear the difference and though present is not the most recognizeable difference. Also: when used as boosters (gain at zero) diodes aren't even clipping the signal, so even less difference

    • @sisoldi
      @sisoldi 4 года назад +1

      @@frankscassi4960 I've had pedals with the switches and when I've used a small board its what I've used. Actually the biggest difference is the SD-1 has more hi pass filtering than a true standard TS-9 variant, so its more open and a less rounded top end compared to the TS-9, whether the gain is on or not.
