I've just come back from a driving tour in Europe with a group of cars and the first time I've used my ZV-1F properly and for an extended period of time. What a fantastic camera, I'm very pleased with it. The only drawback is the lack of decent stabilisation (Active is trash!). We filmed without stabilisation and I'm now running each of our 200+ clips through Catalyst browse. It's tedious but the results are fantastic. I also treated it to a Neewer wide angle lens which has helped give a wider shot and also allows some margin for the crop within Catalyst browse (which also gets rid of the slightly blurred edges that the wider angle lens introduces) Very pleased, if anyone reads this and is on the fence, it's great value and a worthy purchase and so so easy to use. To add it also takes very good photos, I've never shot in RAW so the lack of this feature isn't an issue for me.
I stumbled upon your channel because I’m in need of a entry level camera/camcorder for creating indoor RUclips videos. Many of the drawbacks of this camera- stabilization, no raw files, auto focusing, etc- shouldn’t be too big an issue if it’s strictly going to be used to create in-studio videos sitting on a tripod. I just need to have good lightings. I think this camera is just what I need for the budget I have. Thank you for the great videos and I love your humor
I don't mind the negative things that people say on youtube about this camera. The autofocus is fine for me. The photos in jpeg are great in my experience. I am really enjoying my ZV-1F recently.. Bought it 2 weeks ago.. & I saw your past 2 reviews before I bought it. Thank you for satisfying me to buy this camera😁 you are the best!! I really love this ZV-1F of mine.

Nice review! I have been using this camera to vlog in the Disney World parks and have been loving it! The quality, size and ease of of use is amazing! I did just get the zve10 and the 11mm lens though for a step up when I'm not in the parks. (I use the a7iv too but it's too heavy for on the go!).
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis can I do this on a regular modern laptop like ASUS of even a MacBook air or do I need to invest money in a computer with a powerful graphics card?
Great review as always Mark! The footage looks quite nice in daylight and I think this is the main reason why someone might get this camera to "upgrade" their phone footage. On the other hand some phones have really amazing cameras up to 3 focal lengths and if someone already has a phone with decent cameras, the ZV1-F is hard to sell without photo RAW and "only" contrast based AF for 450$. Someone really has to want the internal mic and that flip screen. In this price range the ZV1-F is competing with action cameras (which have RAW files for photos) and used ZV E10, specially when Sony (hopefully) releases the new APSc generation. Btw the wanna be vlogger was jealous about your gorgious hair, everyone could tell :D
Newbie question here, about the USB-C port. You mentioned it did not require drivers and was plug-and-play with respect to using as a web cam. Does this extend to being able to use one of those wireless USB-C Lavalier microphones (say SmallRig Wave W1-C) with the receiver connected to the USB port rather than to the microphone jack through an adapter? Thanks, and the advice in your videos is so valuable.
Yes - if you gave a mic connected you can use that mics audio - however -the streaming is only 720p. So if you want higer quality you'll beed to look at getting a capture card
I think this is a great little camera for casual photos, RUclips videos and traveling. I don't think it could be any smaller. But as someone who doesn't vlog so doesn't use that remote stick thing I would like to have some kind of case for it because the plastic housing is too slippery, combined with the small size it does not give a nice grip like for example a a5100.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis figured so but I have not seen anyone talking about a dummy battery for the zv1f. I am assuming you can use one made for the zv1?

The reality is that each of the three ZV1 models is a good camera and comes from the pedigree of the RX100 series. Yet, there is a definite bias. I was on a business trip to a reasonably large Midwest US city recently, and found an independent camera shop. In chit chat with the staff over the used gear, I mentioned that I have an RX100m7, which was met with nods and thumbs up. My ZV1 models? Not so much. Under the hood, same sensor and processors. Just packaged differently to meet different use cases. Ignore the haters, folks. I use my two ZV1 cameras for paid side gigs all the time. As long a you give enough light, the little type 1 sensors and good Sony glass and AF will produce a good end product.
I compared the zv1 to the zv1f and the zv1 to the zv-e10. nexts I will do the zv-e10 vs zv1f. but I don’t hav th zv1 with me anymore so I can’t compare lol three at once right now.

For my needs I like the camera. As I try to learn it, I just grab and do my reviews, with the rode my db must be 12 and the rode the lowest, the camera is nice does its job for the price offered, its not an E10 or FX30 so why we compare the top ends to the low ends, and want more out of hmmm thanks for the review

Hi Mark! Love your channel and it has helped inform me on many purchases. Keep up the great work! Quick question. The stuttering/jiggle of the lights in the background are purely related to focus, right? I'm debating picking one up for a top down shot and will be shooting in manual focus. Thanks! 😀
I did do the zv1 vs zv1-f ruclips.net/video/qVfqRTZB5yI/видео.html and the zv-e10 vs zv1 ruclips.net/video/jFnTPpn5sDI/видео.html and I a, about to do the zv-e10 vs zv1-f. but I don’t have all three currently.
Great review Mark! I do notice some weird like shaking of the background even in the studio (mostly the lights/bokeh, etc.) Is this something you addressed and I missed or is this on my end? Or my eyes? 🤣 Thanks for this review again!
I am considering picking up one to travel with to compliment my ZV-E10 and 11mm Sony but I can't make up my mind between just sticking with my ZV-E10 because I'm able to get much better footage and it's worth the extra bulk or picking up the ZV-1 so I can throw it in my pocket and just go. I think we'd all like to see a VLOG-0FF between it, the ZV-1 and the ZV-E10 with their best vlogging setups so we can see what each is fully capable of in both good lighting and low-lighting real world scenarios (indoor well lit, indoor poor lit, night vlog with street lights). I think these scenarios are more practical than your "more scientific" backyard lowlight tests, although those are fun too. 😁
One thing: The APSC sensor of ZV e 10 will give a much better blurry background/Bokeh compared to ZV1. Also, it’s better in terms of low light performance.
Hello. Thanks for this video I recently got this camera but I notice when I put my sd card in my computer my clips have no sound do u no why that could be?
My opinion of this camera is that I'm not qualified to have an opinion, but my first reaction tended to jibe with people (like you, Mark) who do know what they're talking about, and this demo/review doesn't change my mind. Yes, it is relatively inexpensive. But unless you really can't scrape the extra coin for the more robust Z-series cameras, it's close enough to a smart phone (in a camera form factor with a mic jack) where you might as well just shoot with that. And I've seen used ZV-1s, like new, from reputable online retailers for about the same price as the ZV-1f, not to mention that then you don't have to buy the ND filter, adding to the total cost. So this is how I would go if those were my options. It's mainly Sony's flagship AF that make the entry-level worth the $$$, and IMHO they threw out more than just the bathwater to get the price down to $500.
it would have been more simple to just do the zv1 with a wider lens and updated menus for sure. maybe they’ll start selling this camera for even less soon. I think if it was $399 there would be a lot more interest.
Hey Mark! I don't have any sort of experience with cameras apart from the mobile camera, so don't you think this will fit me the best for photography and some videography too?
The ZV1 will be a better fit for photography. The ZV1-F is limited with photography. If you really ant to get into it - look at getting a Sony a6100. The pictures on that with a good lens will be much better than a smart phone
Could you please do a test with zv1/e10 vs Sony imx989 1 inch sensor [vivo x90 pro, xiaomi 13 pro ] Does this make the zv1 obsolete. Vivo even have the Zeis brand coating
If you want a cheap camera to compare with ZF1F, pick up a LUMIX G100 It is really similar. I had it and loved it. It’s electronic stability did good with a wide angle lens. Kasey from Camera Conspiracies just loves the G100, not. Your audience really is in the market for it.
Two show ideas. Using a flash with the ZV-E10. Also, Sony updated the SELP1650 firmware in January to improve autofocus. Perhaps walk people through the firmware upgrade and results.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis NGL - I have the zv-e10 and the kit SELP1650, so while I'm capable to figure out how to do that, I too would be interested to see that firmware upgrade and before/after results video.
With a 10 degree difference of FOV and the new menus as the only advantages and a 150 euro (at best) under the ZV1 this one doesn't make up for all what's missing from the bigger sister.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yeah, in the end the F is too niche a thing with too many compromises for the cost in a world where the zv1 is a thing. Fantastic videos as always though.
Great review as always! Somehow I feel you still swear by your little ZV-E10. I'm also sticking with my ZV-E10. Umm... what's that jittery shimmery thing happening on your lights in the background? Is it the camera?
The flaring you see on the light in the back is the lack of dynamic range on the small sensor - it’s not handling the bright highlights as well as larger sensor cameras. the lights flickering a little in product showcase mode is the contrast autofocus hunting
that’s very kind - I don’t have a Patreon setup right now, but if you shop for anything through Amazon, anytime you go through my links I’ll get a small commission. I love the zV1 too. it’s so useful.
Can I ask you something? Have you heard about the humor of full frame zve camera? And what is your guess about its specs? If it's real, are you going to buy it? 😁
I’ve only heard rumours, but I will certainly buy it no matter what because a lot of my viewers are Sony users so I like to have as many Sony cameras around as I can. plus, I love cameras 🤣
It's kind of humourous how the Atomos dwarfs it. As your review confirms, it definitely has a place. Vertical socials. Top down. Yadda yadda. Perfect for the intended audience.
Greetings Mark. A little bit cold out there ãhn? As we melt down here in Brazil 😩… Another great review with enough information for decision making… while I considered it for podcast use. Thank again and “ok, bah-bye”…
Looks like Sony is hard at work losing out on the shutter speed vs shutter angle issue, super duper wavy on the studio footage with the lights. 172.8 shutter angle buddy, Panaphonic does that :)
ha. the lights waving is contrast based autofocus pulsing. those are studio lights, there wouldn’t be a frequency issue. shutter angle can’t solve autofocus pulsing. 😀 but it’s too bad the camera doesn’t have phase detect.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Oh wow, it's that rough the AF? Wowzers, that's in need of a serious firmware update... jeepers! Oh wait, Sony doesn't like doing those :P Can you believe Canon seems to be beating them on the firmware side of things? Shocking honestly
they won’t be able to update the autofocus in this one because it doesn’t have the phase detect autofocus points. so it’s stuck there. on the bright side, Sony released an A7iv firmware update today, so maybe their getting the message 🤣
This looks great! What picture settings did you use? Actually, did you ever think about using custom picture profile settings and HLG3 with custom color values in order to create a good looking HLG3 file directly out of camera, without going though color correction via LUT/Editor? I would love such a simple workflow, directly uploading it straight to RUclips, without editing. BUT when uploading a HLG3 file with BT2020 color from my Sony ZV E10, RUclips seems not to recognize it as HDR footage and colors look off. They look great though when playing them in QuickTime on my MacBook Air M1. Any ideas? ❤
Yes - you’re best off with a conversion LUT if you shoot in hLG3 bt.2020. I made one and you can get it on my how to shoot HLG video - but I would recommend the LeemingLUT for accurate colours (but it’s a paid lut)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yeah but what l mean is: how could the customization settings in camera already create a 95% good enough output that I could directly upload to RUclips?
the Fuji is great - for what you’re doing it might be a good choice. on wide lenses, the ibis causes wobbles, but other than that - it’s really good. here is a comparison of the two ruclips.net/video/kV6_VrrnX2Y/видео.html
Can people please stop filming HLG 2020 on an 8bit camera for rec709 delivery. That mode is for HDR livestreaming and nothing else, and even then it's just a hack. It is mathematically impossible for a HDR color to be captured in 8bit. Do yourself and favor and set the camera to one of the in camera rec709 profiles and use the little camera as intended. You just made the colors look bad the contrast mushy.
Just because it was intended for hdr doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it. It records in a wider colour gamut in bt2020 and you’ll get more dynamic range and color info after converting to Rec709 in post instead of the camera 👍 5 of the shots were in rec709 cine2 - I mixed them - so if it looks mushy to you - then so does the rec709 (studio shots and outdoors)
no matter how good the stabilization, if you walk around haphazardly- you’ll make your audience seasick. Watch how slow walking shots are in movies. there’s a good reason for that.

yes - I plan to do a direct comparison with Dougie and the zv1f
One thing: The APSC sensor of ZV e 10 will give a much better blurry background/Bokeh compared to ZV1. Also, it’s better in terms of low light performance.

Watching you like a comedy show! Hilarious
In a good way. The reviews are still helpful
I hope Sony makes new version of the ZV-1 soon and put wider lens like 16mm and the new menu system around same price that would be amazing
That would be great
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis can I use catalyst browse for sony a6400 footages
No unfortunately the Sony a6400 doesn’t record gyro data
@Walkingclaxxicsony zv 2 ii
Hello. Thanks for this video I recently got this camera but I notice when I put my sd card in my computer my clips have no sound do u no why that could be?
make sure your mic volume is set to 26
My opinion of this camera is that I'm not qualified to have an opinion, but my first reaction tended to jibe with people (like you, Mark) who do know what they're talking about, and this demo/review doesn't change my mind.
The background flickers rapidly in all shots, outside and in-studio. Looks like rapid re-focusing all the time
yes - better to use manual - the contrast based will hunt like in this video
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ya sure man, a6100 is kinda out of my budget so I'll select between ZV-1 and ZV-1f
Thank you!
Could you please do a test with zv1/e10 vs Sony imx989 1 inch sensor [vivo x90 pro, xiaomi 13 pro ]
Does this make the zv1 obsolete. Vivo even have the Zeis brand coating
The only thing I don’t like the edges look kind of off I don’t know how to put it
it’s a wide lens, so the edges will have a slight distortion
Nice little camera
I'm looking forward to the new ZV-E(100?) review. Did you plan anything or get prepared??? ;))))
if something comes out - I’ll preorder it and do reviews for sure 👍
Also have you heard anything about the ZV full frame coming out soon?
Nothing yet
Can I use it for cooking videos
sure thing
What about the minimum focus distance? Thanks in advance!
Hey buddy can yous share the link to the Lut you use :), thanks
Sorry - for to put it in the description www.leeminglutpro.com
What is the best vlogging camera between 500$-1000$?? I want a camera good with vlogging and movement and a wide lens... so what is the best camera?
it’s probably the zv1m2 at the moment.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis zv1m2 is it an upcoming camera or do you mean the ZV1f??😁😁😁
Will I get a6600 if I am getting it under 1100 dollars

I've missed your beautiful face Mark. For the price this is the ultimate backup that can fit just about anywhere.
Yeah - it’s a great go everywhere cam
Hiii your links aren’t working, but thank you for the video!
thanks for letting me know. I have the zv1f linked in my new Black Friday video - they should work fine
For the zv1F I have 1280X720 when i go to proxy settings is there a way to change it to 1080P or 4K?

unfortunately no
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 🥲
What’s your settings??
If you want a cheap camera to compare with ZF1F, pick up a LUMIX G100 It is really similar. I had it and loved it. It’s electronic stability did good with a wide angle lens. Kasey from Camera Conspiracies just loves the G100, not. Your audience really is in the market for it.
This is the future, each prime lens and focal length has a built in camera. Next year they will come out with a 85mm prime sony ZV1F
🤣🤣
Can I use this camera for podcasts? say 1 hour recording continuously?
You can, but you need an external power supply as the battery won't last that long.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ah! thank you for the response.
Your humorous delivery makes the Review enjoyable as well as informative! Also, do I detect a "Newfie" accent? 🤔
haha - you know your Newfies
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Takes one to know one! I grew up in Burin...
Oh, the lights in the background keep shaking. Is it due to the autofocus?
On which part - the product showcase for sure - but it’s shifting focus a lot
Two show ideas. Using a flash with the ZV-E10. Also, Sony updated the SELP1650 firmware in January to improve autofocus. Perhaps walk people through the firmware upgrade and results.
thanks for the suggestions - I’ve had a few requests for the flash actually. gotta get on it,
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis NGL - I have the zv-e10 and the kit SELP1650, so while I'm capable to figure out how to do that, I too would be interested to see that firmware upgrade and before/after results video.
Hello i am from Bangladesh.
Which is the best blog and still photography camera . Sony ZV1 Or Sony ZV1f
The ZV1 for sure The ZV1-F is not great for photos
“Don King wig” 🤣
none of the kids will get that
With a 10 degree difference of FOV and the new menus as the only advantages and a 150 euro (at best) under the ZV1 this one doesn't make up for all what's missing from the bigger sister.
I wouldn’t trade in the zv1 if I had it
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yeah, in the end the F is too niche a thing with too many compromises for the cost in a world where the zv1 is a thing. Fantastic videos as always though.
Great review as always! Somehow I feel you still swear by your little ZV-E10. I'm also sticking with my ZV-E10. Umm... what's that jittery shimmery thing happening on your lights in the background? Is it the camera?
Contrast Detect AF
@@POVwithRC Dealbreaker, right there.
@@alijafri2022 I think this was designed for people who have no idea about what Sony left out.
The flaring you see on the light in the back is the lack of dynamic range on the small sensor - it’s not handling the bright highlights as well as larger sensor cameras. the lights flickering a little in product showcase mode is the contrast autofocus hunting
The picture quality is very good for the price
Sir when its available in india🥺 eagerly waiting for this
I’m not sure - but hopefully soon

that’s very kind - I don’t have a Patreon setup right now, but if you shop for anything through Amazon, anytime you go through my links I’ll get a small commission.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I will wait for your review before I buy that camera 🤣
It's kind of humourous how the Atomos dwarfs it.
As your review confirms, it definitely has a place. Vertical socials. Top down. Yadda yadda. Perfect for the intended audience.
It definitely works for its purpose

❤️ from India🇮🇳
Good for you. Maybe have a comment or question to add to the celebrations.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Oh wow really? I honestly don't believe it haha. Any useful additions? Does it somehow pull away from the S5 II?
I hope to see a totally water proof version of these cameras from Sony one day soon :)
Look at the RXO II - it is their GoPro basically.
I own this camera it’s okay for the price.
ZVE10 mic sounds a little better maybe. I’m loyal to Doug

yes - jpgs can be great quality, but there's a lot less flexibility in editing. But if you get what you're looking for in camera - jpeg can work great

ZV-E10 or the ZV1.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Fujifilm X-S10 vs Sony ZV-E10 ?
the Fuji is great - for what you’re doing it might be a good choice. on wide lenses, the ibis causes wobbles, but other than that - it’s really good. here is a comparison of the two ruclips.net/video/kV6_VrrnX2Y/видео.html
It records in a wider colour gamut in bt2020 and you’ll get more dynamic range and color info after converting to Rec709 in post instead of the camera 👍
5 of the shots were in rec709 cine2 - I mixed them - so if it looks mushy to you - then so does the rec709 (studio shots and outdoors)
Sony makes money on the less powered battery not the camera itself 😊
🤣🤣
