Ordered mine yesterday and it's on the way! This will be a step up from my phone that I've been using for filming content. I've had one too many instances of checking the footage on the phone and then finding out the autofocus lost me during filming.
I don't have the original ZV-1 to compare it to, but here's what i can determine based on specs alone. Price, wider lens, dedicated slowmo/hyperlapse button, better slowmo quality, updated menu system, USB-C charging, and tripod hole not blocking battery door in favor of ZV-1F. The ZV-1 has a more flexible zoom lens (but not as wide) and slightly better build quality in its favor.
Nice review thank you. I've seen other reviewers say the inbuilt stabilisation is not very good, so they use catalyst browse instead. If I could get one significantly cheaper than a zv 1, I might be tempted. Perhaps it would be a really good idea to do a side-by-side comparison with a GoPro hero 11. To compare footage of a regular vlog? Happy new year 🥳
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been looking for something like this and was initially thinking of the Sony ZV1 instead but I think u just changed my mind!
Hi suzzie love the video i was just wondering what is the remote tripod u screw onto the sony zv-1 has i carnt find it anywhere so i was wondering if u have a link for the tripod many thanks in advance.
This was such a helpful video… I’m currently trying to decide on a beginner camera but got stuck between the Sony ZV1 or The ZV1F, only issue is ZV1F is quite new on the market and alot of vloggers are still recommending the ZV1 for beginner setups but my main concern is the overheating issue of the ZV1. I wanted to check your thoughts on someone starting vlogging this year that you think the ZV1F is the better camera on the market now or do you yourself still recommend ZV1 for beginners. Thanks 🙌✨
I bought my Sony camera a few weeks ago for my RUclips channel. I'm still learning how to use it. Lol. However, I do like it! Thank you for the review!
A great video. This seems to be the best vlogging camera. I am a gopro 8 user but this can be a good option on top of insta X3. Thanks for all the info.
Thank you for the clear review (just subscribed) - question: would this camera be good as a webcam shooting for Zoom recording and giving lessons - with continuous power and video delivery?
i'm Currently using my S22 on a tripod with a wireless audio mic , with the mic attached to my lapel, i video myself in fishing matches and edit them and put them on my you tube channel . I now want to get a camera for doing this job, i am thinking Go pro 12 or DJ action 4 , or would the sony ZV-1F do the job . But i must be able to have a wireless Mic attachment as the camera will be away from me and there will be wind noise on some occasions . I also need to be able to hit record from a remote as i will be sitting on my seat box and i cant keep getting up and down during a match. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes it crops! 1 time for that kinda decent ACTIVE stabilization mode and it crops again if you want the great 4K quality. That's way they made the lens bigger!
Great review, could you do a review with Sony ZV-1F vs GoPro 11 for low light? I want to upgrade from my GoPro 7. Maybe this Sony Camera is the next logical step if I want improved low light on a budget.

One thing I have tried to find out on Sony's website, reviews, and specs - is water resistance? Can't seem to find it. Also if you do a follow-up, maybe a bit more on the stabilization? Hello Suzie, Thanks for your tutorial. I'd greatly appreciate some help if you can. Here is the setup: SONY ZV-1F with a Pop Voice MIC. I have the correct connection, TRRS to TRS converter. There simply is No Audio Recording when I use the two together. I can replace the MIC if necessary. I would prefer to use the proper settings for an external MIC. However, I need a MIC that is able to be about 6 feet or so away from the camera. I'd greatly appreciate help with this. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the awesome review and for highlighting the differences between this and a phone. I'm astonished by the price, and If I didn't just purchase the Sony RX100 VII, this would be such a tempting camera!
Nice... too big for my needs... fdr x3000 is still my go to for outdoor first person view. Love the OIS and 170 degree field of view, and audio quality. I just wish it had better low light performance.
Thanks for bringing us this review. Nice to see the wider lens, but shame it has no decent zoom. Good that it has a proper touchscreen and better stabilisation.
I'm assuming it doesn't have s-cinetone? :) I wish! I was planning on vlogging with the original zv-1, but I did notice it wasn't quite wide enough as you mentioned. I've been substituting my setup with the siii or a7iv instead and a 16-35. The convenience factor is nice with this smaller form factor, but not sure I can give up the IQ. The inclusion of s-cinetone would make things more interesting though.
No S-Cinetone, unfortunately, but there is S-Log2 and S-Log3. I use 20mm to vlog on my a7IV on occasion, and I like that focal length, but for sure would not complain if they could get this lens down to a 16mm instead.
@@Gemini_Connect Absolutely, that would basically be equivalent to the 11mm 1.8 APSC lens they recently started selling. A few mm on the wide end make so much more difference than a few mm on the tele side
Not really. The ZV E-10 being an interchangeable lens camera gives you much more versatility. However if you want a point and shoot I would recommend the original ZV-1 or the Canon g7x iii there are trade offs between the 2 where for me personally the ZV-1 is better.
Agreed -- the ZV-E10 and original ZV-1 are more expensive, and thus more powerful. If you have the budget for those cameras, absolutely go for them instead. I like the ZV-E10 because you can swap out the lens, but you also need $$ to buy the lenses. The ZV-1F is a cheaper, entry level addition to those other cameras, best if you're on a strict budget.
The sensor is NOT 1 inch. It is 13.3 mm X 8.8 mm. (Sony website). An inch is 25.4 mm. That did not stop me from buying this camera. It makes a great VIDEO CAMERA for tight scenes. It has great depth of field BOKEH..blurred background when close up focusing. Great color. Quick focus. It has a mic jack but no headphone jack..Ehh. I mounted mine on one of those "L" shaped camera brackets. The microphone attaches to a shoe on top of the grip. Pretty sturdy. Great video.
skin softening - Why would anyone wan't to turn that off? Because some of us want to look real and are not particularly vain in that regard. To me the best thing about the ZV-1F is the filter thread. Finally after years of needing one, an RX100 type of camera has a filter thread and we don't have to glue one on.
I remember when I used the canon g7x, I needed to turn on selfie mode for soft skin effect. It's a bit annoying because in many situations, I needed to take a wide shot or an object too. How about this camera? Thx.
Other than moving the tripod mount the ZV-1F is the exact same camera as the ZV-1 with a fixed but wider lens. If you only vlog it might be good but I feel it's a step in the wrong direction. The original ZV-1 is a much more powerful camera. I have a Canon Powershot sx740 hs that has a 40x zoom effectively 24 to 960mm fixed lens but no mic jack or flash mount, it has a popup flash. If you put that lens on the ZV-1 and it would have been near perfect for me. However the biggest complaint was that the ZV-1 wasn't wide enough for vlogging in which case an 18-200mm might have been better. The 2nd biggest complaint was the tripod mount but several cages came along to fix that. The F at least fixed that. For me the F gets an F and I will recommend the original ZV-1 or the Canon PowerShot G7 X iii over it all day long.
The ZV-1 and ZV-E10 are for sure more powerful, but for more money. The 1-F is an entry level, lower cost addition to the lineup. It's not meant to be an upgrade from the past models.
The ZV-E10 is more expensive, but has slightly more features, plus the ability to change lenses. If you have the budget for it plus a lens or 2, I'd go for that one. The ZV-1F is ideal for beginners who want less complication and a lower price.
▶ FOLLOWUP VIDEO - Sony ZV-1F Unedited Vlog - Is it ACTUALLY a good vlog camera? ruclips.net/video/6q_BpNUL2Hc/видео.html This is a budget camera aimed at beginners, and my conclusions here are drawn from 3 weeks of field testing in family vlogging scenarios, shooting everything on Auto mode.
It is cheaper than most top of the line smartphones that everyone seems to want to compare this camera to. But besides price, the ergonomics and overall vlog setup make more sense on a dedicated camera than trying to rig up a smartphone, in my opinion.
Hmm, wow why sony sending you a products that not a available - i am from Denmak and not available here? I try to look google and look to pricerunner nothing? Something weird.
I don't like camera blur the background and there is no point to go out to a beautiful place and beautiful view and record with a blur background.... Also, I don't like the cameras can't stabilize.
There's a dedicated button for turning the backgrounds blur feature off or on. This camera does have built-in stabilization, which helps with the panning and handheld shots, but admittedly is less effective if walking/running.
After watching this channel for the last few weeks, I'm very disappointed in this "review". It's far from being perfect, in fact it's not even a good camera, it's actually kinda worse than the original ZV1. The stabilization is terrible and unusable, it wobbles way too much. There's a lot more wrong with it. Everyone here should rather watch a review from a proper camera channel. What this channel does well is action cams, coming from those the quality of the ZV 1f might seem fine but based on the fact it's a "proper" even though entry level camera it's not good, there's better alternatives out there for sure
"...coming from [action cams] the quality of the ZV-1F might seem fine" -- that's exactly the point. That's why the main comparison was to a cell phone.
@@Gemini_Connect either way, so many points you listed were just straight up wrong. I also find it so typical how every reviewer compares it to a phone, just because that's what Sony is marketing it for. Looks like influencers are the one getting influenced here. You say it's the perfect vlogging camera, yet I'm sure you'll stick to you GoPro, so it can't be that perfect after all. To your points, you said the auto focus is great because it's Sony, even though it's only contrast detect and every review shows how bad it actually is. Stabilization is a wobbly mess, how can anyone think that's good enough for vlogging. The lens still isn't wide enough etc. It's a worse zv1 and that one is available for less by now
I'm comparing it to a phone because for the price and quality, that is the most direct competitor to this camera. There are many types of vloggers out there with different budgets and quality standards. This won't be the perfect vlogging camera for everyone, but it will for some people.
Comparable in the sense that if you're going to pay $500 for a camera, this is the quality you can expect, vs paying upwards of $1000, of course the resolution, stabilization, etc are going to be better on those cameras.
If Dji Pocket 3 comes with like 1/1.3 inch sensor with a price tag between 400 to 450 usd, then surely dji gonna win the competition with its stabilization.
After watching Gerald Undone’s video then watching this, I lost a ton of respect for this channel. I usually enjoy your camera videos, but I’m this case, if you are making an ad for Sony, be up front about it. That being said, I can understand how you don’t want to bite the hand that is feeding you and how much of an advantage uploading these early “reviews” can be for growing your channel, but you really should be honest about this camera’s flaws as a service to your viewers.
My reviews always come from a real world user perspective first, not technical comparisons to the degree of Gerald Undone. From the look of it, Gerald took a few clips in several settings and analyzed them. I spent 3 weeks filming in a variety of everyday scenarios. Not to discredit his findings, but to point out that we have different approaches, and might have different conclusions. Based on my experience, I think that there are certain users out there who will love this camera. Is it for everyone? No, but neither are action cameras, which have long been my preferred vlog cameras.
@@Gemini_Connect Having spent three weeks with this camera and having your level of experience with the competition is even more reason this video should have included a cons section. Again, I feel like you were doing your best to sell this camera without being totally honest about it’s flaws and I’m sure you won’t make that video because of my points above.
Ordered mine yesterday and it's on the way! This will be a step up from my phone that I've been using for filming content. I've had one too many instances of checking the footage on the phone and then finding out the autofocus lost me during filming.

@@Gemini_Connect all I've seen so far are iPhones 13/14 Pro, Google Pixel 7 Pro etc. Those phones cost upwards of 1200€ and comparable? OK...
Facts! I own the Pocket 2 and I'm amazed by its stabilization! The 4K is nice too! ✌😉
Man, that would be killer. I'm stoked to see what the Pocket 3 has in store for us!
GoPro with mediamod is way better for vlogging.
In certain scenarios, yes. But you can't shoot well in low light or get the blurred background effect on a GoPro.
