The 997.1 is very nice too. I had 996 turbo stick and 997.1 Turbo Tiptronic. I prefer the tip or I would do the 997.2 turbo PDK other than that I’ll never own another one
I have a 996 TT - brakes had same problem - discs pads worn and hoses flexing under braking Upgraded to a big brake kit - means can fit larger 997 turbo rotors hawk pads steel braided brake pipes - thus made a difference in feel and stopping power Quite a cheap upgrade eg cheaper than Oem 996 TT replacements FYR exhaust usually criticised as too quiet surprised wasn’t mentioned
Hi Jonathan good tip on the brakes I need to replace my pads soon! And yes I mentioned it in my other video: ruclips.net/video/bXIr2nh_Lrs/видео.html. I tried to make this one a bit more positive :)
There’s no improvement in stopping power with bigger brakes. You can easily lock up the standard brakes so the ABS kicks in. Improved brake feel, yes and improved fade resistance on the track, yes. But they don’t stop the car quicker - tyres do that
Great looking turbo. Aged so well. Breaks i hear are a common complaint, 6 pot ones a common upgrade. Dont ever sell it, youll regret it! Ps. I disagree with the investment angle. Innflation, proper servicing, insurance, mass produced. But thats not why we buy them, so spend the money and enjoy.
Me too! Even this ‘boring’ 4wd is so great to drive I haven’t paid a penny in depreciation. Please consider subscribing if you’d like to see more and let me know if any topics would be of particular interest to cover :)
Your comment: "full engine rebuild down the line" seems a bit over the top.. 8% failure rating. It cost me $1,700 for a new IMS bearing....a one time expense.
That’s a fair point Ken I’ve had a few mates who’ve bought a car supposedly with the IMS done but I guess it was just replaced rather than changed for one with a separate oil line (as it should be). You’re right should be just a matter of replacing the IMS bearing but it is still a risk/something to watch out for when buying an NA car.
@@planes121 I wouldn't agree on the separate oil line being a must. I see it as a servicable item, when I change my clutch I change the IMS at the same time. Not a very high cost in total ownership cost.
That’s a fair point. The idea of the IMS going without any warning and writing off the engine would make me think twice about keeping it as a perishable item. But you’re right it’s very unlikely to fail if it’s replaced every few years with the clutch
oh yes = Porsche 911 full engine rebuilds - been there - TWICE !! - within 18 months !!! if you have any sense get a Ferrari - a 430 will do nicely & just about the same performance with a shedload of extra kudos
Depends what you’re going for if you prefer to go under the radar and save a bit of money while having a really special car I think the 996 Turbo is a good bet. Subscribe and I’ll see if I can change your mind :)
@@planes121 No thanks - getting shafted like that by Porsche kind of soured it for me - if I get shafted the same by Ferrari then maybe I'll think again
I've owned mine for 10 years and it has been spectacular all around. Can be driven daily or as a weekend warrior. It does all these things very well.
A nice video indeed. Porsche 996 Turbo the best of the old and the new in one, the all weather raw urban power haus with the famous Mezger engine !
Thanks Dino! Couldn’t agree more. Also a sub to the channel would be greatly appreciated! I’m hoping to make some more 996 content

Lovely car. I bought a black 996 c4s last year. Great cars
What’s the naturally aspirated engine like does it sound good?

Nice car, would have liked to have heard it start up. 👍
Cheers David! Next time..
Or watch my other video or short did a few cold starts there
I love mine, it has individual special wishes on it
Sunroof was standard but had a delete option
Cheers Jon! That explains why most have one!
I had the same reaction using the brakes on this car! How funny
Was a really unnerving feeling the first time.. but now I’m used to them they’re great aren’t they?
Had the same experience on my 997 Carerra S.. I thought there was an issue the first time I drove it lol.
@@garyw1971 they’re great once you get used to them though aren’t they! Everything else feels grabby to me now

Fair point sadly.. hopefully biofuels can save us petrol heads

@@frankhassle9366 - agreed - but I have owned mine for exactly one year and its not blown up once -
so by Porsche standards its doing really well

If you make a video about a car you should at least wash and clean it. This example is disgusting.
