You MUST anchor your dog while traveling. There’s tie downs and get a proper dog travel harness or lead. Instant on the spot fine and points on license if caught, never mind that big dog flying throughout the cabin
Love it! Can always trust the kids to give their honest opinion😂
😂 he’s too funny
The little boy was absolutely adorable and correct in his judgement.
Never mind the van, I can't believe how much Harvey has grown up! Such a cutie x
You can Plug N Charge with Ionity chargers and VW/Skoda. Connect you phones over Bluetooth.
The bigger wheels are responsible for about a 20 mile drop in range compared to standard size wheels. Plus in summer you’ll get an extra 20-30 miles
I love my id buzz . Good space and comfortable. Ive driven 16000km with it now.
Hey guys, great video as always! Thanks for the mention and for answering my questions, even if one of them was a tad daft 🤣
We should defo have tried it! 😂
Thank you!
I really do like the ID BUZZ but the range is the reall thing that puts me off of getting one . I drove my new t6.1 204 dsg lwb highline swamper kombi camper to john o'groats last week .I drove none stop for 13.5 hours only stopping for fuel and a toilet break ,670 miles on.a tank and a half of diesel. Good news how long that journey would have taken in a BUZZ.
It's basically a spacious car. Very nice - but the whole charging thing is a bit of a pain when you go any distance. With a Transporter you'd do NEC and back without refuelling.
yeah, and if I still had my steam engine I could get to John O'Groats on a few hectares of forest, or truck loads of coal, but I haven't still got it, because steam engines, though an interesting part of industrial history, are extinct as a means of transport, just like the diesel 'Transporter' nearly is.
@@PapyRoule Just truck loads of batteries this time charged by coal power plants eh?
For the cover, just get a couple of grommets and some cloth. Put the grommets near the top of the cloth where the headrest posts are and it should just hang down.
I can't wait for the American release. Looks very fun to drive.
love this channel and so eager to be the first commenter hah :) happy travels
Thank you very much for watching 😊
You went to my Ikea, and are running around my neighbourhood. I didn’t realise you guys are local to me. :) I love the look of the buzz, but I could never justify the cost.
My friend that has an electric car had a little bit of trouble just as you were saying coming back during rush hour traffic, and then the electricity went out so we stopped at two chargers and he couldn’t charge his car. We eventually found a place it was tricky.
Using 2 fingers at same time, touch the temperature slide and heated seat appears at fully on. You can then tap it again to reduce and again to lowest setting and again to off
Well, I hope when the California EV is released, Sean, the battery is much improved, as I would hate to spend some of my holiday looking for charging points, and trying to work out how far I can travel, before trying to find the next stop, etc etc, especially as I spend a lot of time in and around Scotland.
Slightly off topic, but I just want to say how totally professional and well edited your reports are. Given that it’s clearly not your full time job you produce more informative, entertaining and creative video’s than many broadcast organisations with all their resources. Thank you for showing us the Buzz……but I still don’t like it!
Thank you very much. That’s very kind of you to say 😊
I drive to Germany quite a bit sometimes 3 times a year ,I would be keen to see how long a journey from Southampton to cochem would take ,5 up with a boot full of luggage driving at autobahn speeds, is the ID BUZZ A REAL alternative to a transporter kombi camper as I just don't think so yet .
I am from the era of the original VW bus. I was thrilled to hear that they were re-introducing a van and terribly disappointed that it wasn’t more like the old camper van.
Indeed this drives better
So glad you said about not charging to 100% on a rapid. The number of vans I find slow charging on a rapid to 100% in case there are no more chargers before they get to London!
Great as a city family carrier or the commercial one would be great for delivering flowers around the city. Not for me as an adventure van though, I'd hate to have to charge it every 200m or so whilst eating junk food... I'll stick with my T6.1 DSG Kombi thanks.
Had a test drive yesterday. Thought it was fab 👍
The 7 seater long version will be the one to get. More flexible, hopefully the Multivan's rear seat configuration and seat rails will be in it, plus over 100kw battery. Cheers from Australia.
I agree. I don´t need the extra length, but I think that it´s a real downside that VW wasn´t able to get the floor flat and use a Multivan seat system even in the five seater option. I can understand that the battery takes up space and that makes it hard to get a totally flat floor, but the 60/40 non removable seat is just plain out stupid in a van in this price range. Three separate removable seats would have been so much better and it would have made the car so much more usable, especially for families with one or two kids or just when you need to use all the space in the cabin. Just take the seats you need and get more space of the rest of the cabin.
Waiting for an hour and paying almost as much as a tank full of gas. I have not got the patience for that. My mii 75hp has a 30 litre tank and driving 110 on the open road I can do almost 600 km (375miles) with 50 euro. And I bought it 10.5 k. new. Electric cars are good for cities and around them . Excellent video.
@22:48 “next time you don’t have to do any of that planning, you just know that next time coming to the NEC you charge here” See this is the major issue I have with EVs and their infrastructure currently. In an ICE vehicle I don’t have to think like that at all, I just get fuel when it’s convenient and I know If I get stuck in traffic, in a queue at an accident or I come to the site I had planned to fuel up at and it’s unavailable for some reason I’m not then panicking about running out of battery or being caught in a red line situation. It’s just too stressful to even contemplate tbh so until that aspect of range anxiety is sorted I just couldn’t switch to a full EV. The Buzz is cute though and those wee Easter eggs are adorable.
Nice review. Did I see that the temperature set to 22? You should be able to drive in comfort but in a big space like that it will absolutely hammer the range. In my little ID.3 the difference in range between 19 and 22 would be 10-20% in cold weather. I use Instavolt on my travels as they’re reliable but they’re very pricy
A fantastic/ honest review. The VW ID Buzz is such a disappointment and agree that it has far too small a footprint to make a viable campervan...
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
I have a vw van, I have two golden retrievers and I also have an Anjunabeats hoodie!
Great to watch you guys giving it a good go. On the sat nav range bit I’d presume looking at the other areas that were out of range but the same colour would be from a ferry point.
So it cost about £47 for electric juice…that is more expensive than I expected….is that dearer than if you went to a diesel that could do 45mpg? ( my golf 2.0tdi)
Instavolts are one of the most expensive charging companies in the UK, about double what other networks charge because it is currently unregulated. Compare it to refuel on the motorway to a supermarket. Like most things it is best to shop around first
My T6.1 Kombi does around 30mpg which at service station prices for diesel is approx 27p per mile. If I could get 3 miles per kw then it would be about the same charging out on the road.
Can't wait for the long wheel base version. Might be a bit out of my price range thought.
I like the ID buzz but the range is nowhere good enough at motorway speed, and the price is far too expensive. The press car specs up at £70k+ and most of the things that are optional you would want. Add in 2 tone paint, matching interior and 12 inch screen and you get to £65k. Add in tow bar, charging cables, interior light packages and it gets to over £70k. Put in a 100 kwh batter pack, and charge me £50k with some of these options included and I will buy one.
So it stated you had 233 miles for a full charge, but you actually got 193 miles .I can get 470 miles from a tank of diesel and at the moment diesel is getting cheaper. I'm still not convinced that electric is the way forward.
I can get 600 miles to a tank of diesel
Yeah, I can also get about 750 miles out of my diesel. But I do think we're somewhat exaggerating it all. Unless you travel over 200 miles everday, you should be fine eith an EV. The only thing is, you gotta plug it in every night (just like you do with your phone) or every other night. I feel like you would get used to that fairly quickly. Personally, if that's the one main disadvantage of owning an EV, I wouldn't be too concerned then. It's only for the longer trips, once a year, that it would be a problem. But maybe for those trips, you could leave your EV home and rent an ICE car. So, that's really for like 5% of the year.
An ev is still impractical for a camper, for most people it’s still impractical for a daily car, unless you only drive local urban mileage a day, contrary to what most people think the ev is an ok choice for local urban driving as this is when recuperation of energy from braking is more widespread, it doesn’t really work well on A roads and motorways, I can take out a premium brand ev on 98-100 % charge do a run from plymouth to Exeter and back, and come back on 42-48% charge, also consider where and when charging is available and most are slow or pre booked slots , plus unless you keep an ev for ten years the increase in carbon emissions and environmental damage building them is actually 3.5x more then a standard petrol or diesel, so those lucky enough to be able to afford one are actually doing more damage to the planet because they are the either company car/lease drivers or will change cars every two to three years, so you think your being green but actually your worse than people who run we’ll maintained combustion engine vehicles used in appropriate conditions ie if you just potter locally buy a petrol if you do 50 miles or more a day buy a diesel, if you trundle around in city traffic all day buy an ev but keep it for ten years
@@darrenjones3681 How about a hybrid for city/urban driving. I feel like that's probably even better. A lot of them would use EV only mode for most of the time, no need to charge, and still fine for driving in the motorway. I'm considering a (full) hybrid myself for these reasons. What do you think?
@@rlinkandroidauto-xe9sg a better choice but still like I said if you keep a car for ten years still more carbon emissions to build and more environmental impact to produce but usage wise better which is why most local private hire vehicles are now in Devon Prius, you tend to find that this fuel consumption on the hybrid petrol engine isn’t that great though, to be honest the big picture is the world’s highest population centres are not in Europe and still driving whatever they want or can keep on the the road in the third world and developing countries and they are the ones doing the most environmental damage, just look at the USA and Asia, south and Central America and Africa
Love that belly :-) I‘m glad to see your feeling better and smiling. Bravo on the jump, lovely family pet! We bought the Kepler 6 and it has been great for trips to IKEA. (Your video for the Kepler was one of the best). We have not been happy with the quality of many things on the Kepler, one is the VW software …. we hook up the phone and use Google maps as well. We are also Electric in our daily use auto (full E Volvo and we plug at home, PV on the roof) The ID interior looks great and I like the lighting accessories. Driving the VW Kepler is comfortable but it doesn‘t have the more luxurious elegant feeling or look that the ID has. Our van is definitely a working van, plastic and strictly functional. We switched out the sound system because it was so bad (and found that VW had used very cheap speakers and sound insulation was bad or non existent). I wonder what is in the ID? How is the sound system? Is it quiet (no rattles)? We are definitely happy driving Electric for our everyday needs and I think a family E van is a great idea!
two things put me off buying any electrical vehicle....(I live in Australia) the infrastructure for Ev's isn't here like it is in Europe, the distances are crazy here and secondly the cost of these cars is beyond the reach of most average wage earners......if I win lotto id buy one:))
As a current ev driver how do you feel about Mel from Big van small world, showing all vanlifers how to use ev chargepoints to charge up their leisure batteries.??
Great video and very insightful, well done guys.
Thank you!
I hear her say that it is a test to see if it can hold some chips and in my mind's eye I am picturing a hook or basket to hold a bag of corn chips or potato chips. I wonder why that would be a concern, just keep it with the rest of the groceries.
I look at the screen and she is pointing to some McDonald's french fries. Ha! That was amusing.
Yes, having a holder for your fries so you can eat while you drive is an important consideration.
I would love one of these but that battery range is very disappointing for this type of vehicle. Should be high 200's low 3's minimum.
You can turn on or off the heated seats with a 2 finger tap on the heating slider.
Nice video but this has totally put me off buying an electric car/van £46 in charging and that was after a full charge at home - wow that's expensive compared to petrol. Also the time wasted waiting for charges. Id be interested to work out if you added that time onto a journey in a petrol car but drove slower (more efficient) which car would be 'cleaner' and cheaper to run.
Only mildly interested. More interested in the smaller SUV like the RAV 4 going all electric.
I currently drive a Prius V and go car camping. Between the inside of the car and the luggage rack I put on the back bumper, it's a very full vehicle. But it does hold all the gear. And I can sleep in the bed of the car if I like.
Hang an apron on the seatback. In a pinchbyou can use as an apron.
Sticking to my Skoda 1.6 Diesel 70mpg
Instavolt is very expensive! We have now found ionity through our Hyundai and it’s half the price. Not many in the UK yet, but hopefully they expand more.
Great watch: certainly answered a question or two for me.
Thank you!!
Nice wagon. That looks like Southampton IKEA to me 😊
Sure was!
i’ve seen videos where the seats don’t go down and you can’t sleep in it ? why is yours different
Just a bit if info the two cvrt tacked tanks were a sultan (larger one)and a spartan just saying.
Thank you 👌
Get your boy some soft home shufflers on his feet when in the back of the car.
Leave them in the car, problem solved. 😎 (the soft shoes not the kid(s))!
Im surprised a vehicle of that size doesnt have a bigger battery something similar to the bmw ix 107kwh battery.?
Super cute Van, really like the styling, color options and the storage solutions. Completely useless in the EV configuration unfortunately. Can't even imagine spending 8+ hours to travel less then 400 miles to include charging breaks. Great video though, thoroughly enjoy the two of you and your format. Cheers!
Thank you very much 😊
It looks like the IKEA cafeteria there has more selection than in the States
Bit of a crazy idea, has anyone thought of putting comfy seats and a kitchen in the back? It may never work because judging from the comments, everyone has deadlines to meet and no time to stop, but it may provide some 'leisure' time on longer journeys while stopping for a charge.
If your concerned about your little lad kicking the seat, just remove his shoes whilst he's in the car 😊
Tricky with a toddler who either doesn’t want his shoes on or doesn’t want them off! They can’t be reasoned with!!! 😩
@@ABusAndBeyond speaking as a father of grown up children he can't do much to avoid the situation when he's strapped in the chair lol, but I hear and feel your pain
What a palaver with charging, it needs to be a 400 mile range before I’d consider it.
How often do you need to go 400 miles without stopping? Genuinely. I owned a Tesla Model S for eight years. I’d often travel from Portsmouth to Heathrow or Bath. That car had 230ish range and I never had a problem. Hardly ever needed to use charging in the wild.
I want to buy one June 2024 in California
I saw a Buzz in the wild recently, in single colour, it does look quite tall and narrow and a bit out of proportion
. I think you drove quite softly - very expensive; and are electric vehicles environmentally friendly if you take into account manufacturing costs and the added infrastructure required?
Thank you for a super insightful video.
Nothing I have seen would induce me to buy an electric car. You would certainly need time on your hands!! However, I do like the look of the van.
Love the sweatshirt :-) Go Anjunabeats! Great video by the way!
Great video thanks for the info I am moving from a caddy LWB and have dog boes in back this would be ideal as i also need seats for grandchildren sometimes on other question does it have rear AC
Great video guys… one question re the electric vehicle..how much does the air con/heating deplete the battery especially in the colder weather. The I D Buzz is a cracking looking van though.
Greatly. Especially the heater. See heaters on ICE cars simply run the hot engine coolant into a heater core inside the dash. Gasoline and diesel engines produce heat fairly quickly. It takes maybe 2-3 minutes for the vehicle to produce a notable heat signature out of the vents. Also most ICE cars operate at 80-90°C.
On EV's while some still use the coolant and heater core method, it takes much longer for the temperature to rise as EV's run about 50% cooler than an ICE. For that reason they also incorporate what's called a PTC heater.
The PTC heater core is a high resistance electrical heater that runs off the HV battery. It get hot very, very, quickly and provides heat for not just the cabin, but the battery pack as well. This results in additional consumption in the winter.
@@LynxStarAuto
Thanks for that reply mate.👍🏻
Awesome vehicle I love the style and the video was informative but probably will not make it to the states 🇺🇸 and hopefully a California model is in the future 👍😉👏
Are the pillar windows annoying or cause any blind spots? If the ID buzz was to become a camper I would prefer no pillar windows. Not sure if it is possible though.
It must be a really long time since I saw one of your videos, you didn't have a child last time......
The range just isn’t enough and it’ll be even worse in cold weather. You need a week of work to do a long journey
California daily driver would be 64 miles or 2 1/2 hours per day
What a faff - very helpful info
I m working ad pon the make a bigger id buzz and also calafornia.about one year.
VW are changing all the haptic steering wheels back to buttons from 2024 on all makes
The initial Bentley test showed my concern with ID Buzz.
He’s a useful test subject!
Why didn’t you charge at the NEC? Then it would have been full for the journey home?? Good video. :D
I'll keep to my petrol car thanks, nice looking vehicle tho, great video both x
Thanks so much!!
Last one, prepare to freeze to death in the winter.
You put the heat up and you lose about 30 mile range. Shocking
How is the noise isolation at car while driving?
Great video thanks. I am considering moving from Volvo XC60 to ID Buzz so I can fit in two Newfies in the boot (minus the raised floor) as the clearance will be low that they can get in and out without aid. They are not as nimble as a retriever :)
My goodness a little thinker nothing gets past him
Not much in the way of storage & charging options for camp sites. No rear sliding window or panoramic roof. Lots of expensive development costs to make it a reasonable campervan.
How much does it cost to purchase an electrical charge?
As always, a great video thank you, but it’s helped me underline that I’m still not convinced by the ID Buzz at all. A leisure vehicle should be exactly that, not always making you anxious about where your next plug in of expensive charge is going to be.
Also, maybe I might be pointing to an elephant in the room here but the Buzz just isn’t as good looking as ANY of its predecessors especially the T6.1
$19.52 that would be five dollars a gallon of gasoline what you call Petro
I Would get 120 miles on that amount in my Toyota Highlander hybrid
Great video….not sure an electric vehicle would cope with the distances here in Australia.
Did you forget Bentley, it appears he went to Ikea.... but wasn't seen coming back. Mmmmm?
We dropped him off at Grandma’s house on the way to IKEA. Although I’m sure he’d love to visit ikea and test out all their fluffy toys!
@@ABusAndBeyond ohhh, I'm so pleased to hear that!
I thought the ID Buzz has wireless Apple Carplay. I have seem it demoed.
I still say a hydrogen cell motor could be built that sucked in air, separated the hydrogen out and delivered it to the engiine on a continuous basis for combustion. We don't need to stop and refill our tanks to breathe. It must have something to do with metabolism. Let's stop mucking about and make our cars self charging.
I would rather buy 3x rangerover L322 in black or 3 vw T5S.
It’s Wireless Car play!
As a VW fanatic…brilliant retro design that I wanted for ages…until poor internal design for the rear floor, poor range and how much???
Bugger as we say in NZ.
that would be seventy three, American dollars or sixteen gallons of gasoline
46°F and you’re wearing a T-shirt
I am amazed they were working.
Honestly you go to a petrol station stress free.
Fill up and fuck off no dramas.
EVs it either will I have to wait.
The cost per kW is a rip off and you have to get the app or a card for that type of charger etc.
The government said charging an EV should be the same as filling up at a petrol station.
Is it fuck, it's a pain in the arse.
If you used ABRP then it would tell you when it read ok to continue just the same way tesla does
I’ve used ABRP before and find it really unintuitive. Not for me I’m afraid.
@@ABusAndBeyond really? Check out any of my videos and you'll see I use it all the time. As an ex tesla owner too 😜 I just set the destination and it tells me where to go and shows charger availability of the planned stops before I get there
Can’t Wait to see Harvey press his 1st “Dislike” button on a RUclips Video. Great to see Bentley back in a Video as well.
Instavolt sounds expensive! 😮
No wireless Apple Car Play?
Nice. We are also looking forward to our electric adventure. Check it out.
Did you leave the dog at IKEA?
Yes we did
