This totally worked! - Eventually... for some reason my unit wouldn't factory reset for the first three attempts - who knows why. I'm amazed that Netgear themselves don't make videos like this - This is the best, and only source of information for this router I found anywhere online. Win!

Very, very good!. I'd tried doing this before, but this is the FIRST time I had good instructions. Measuring connection speeds throughout the process:
> Standing in front of the wifi router ~ 60MBPS.
> Using a NETGEAR EX3700 extender in different points through the house: ~ 20-40Mbps.
> Using the EX3700 as an AP ~100Mbps.

Thanks for the great instructions! I had one of these sitting in the closet and was finally able put it to use as an AP after pulling some ethernet to cure a weak ring doorbell video signal. You saved me some skrilla over having to buy a consumer AP.
Life saver. Thank you so much for this. The only video that explains getting the extender working with the cable. It doesn't pick up the 5G though. Is that a problem with the router?
In AP mode, it is broadcasting its own wireless, you may want to login to the device and verify the device is set to broadcast a 5g network.

If you use this as an access point, do you have to have a network cable from the router to this? Or can you use it wirelessly and plug another router into the access point? Thanks for the great video.
I'm not sure why you'd need to do this as the 3700 unit acts as a wireless access point already. If you need more wired ports (a wireless to wired bridge) then you could connect the 3700's ethernet port to the wan port of another router to get more than one ethernet connection.
If I buy this product and use it as an access point. Can I connect an Ethernet cable into my pc through the new access point after I set it up?
Is it possible to have multiple EX3700s as access points for the same SSID? Say I want an AP upstairs, downstairs and in the garage. Can they all be configured so I don’t have to have three different networks in the house?
Not with these models, you may want to look into the TP Link Deco Mesh system, this has pods that you create a mesh wifi signal and provides the seamless roaming.

Not working for me. I don't know why, but as soon as I plug in my ethernet the setup screen disappears. And then when I type in the mywifiext address, I get this error message. "You are not connected to your extender's WiFi network." There's already an extender connected, and for some reason another router? I don't know, it's really frustrating the hell out of me.
Bro, I have setup as an access point connecting the extender with my secondary router but now I can not find the 5G network, only the extender shows 2.4 G. What might have gone wrong?
Have you taken a look into the settings? I would verify it is enabled.
@@HelpCloudbro, i tried to login to the extender using mywifiext.com or net and can not login to the extender settings and sometimes it's taking me directly to the main router login panel which tp-link. How do I login to the extender now. The model number is Netgear ex3700. Is there any default IP address to login to the extender?

It depends on what you need. AP requires a Ethernet cable from the router/modem into the unit. If you want to use the port for your ps4, you will need extender mode.

OK I want to setup this thing but how am I supposed to open up a web page when connected to it but it doesn't give internet access ??? If I connect to the internet via another route then the website just keeps spitting out a screen that says i have to connect to the unit . Once i do then i don't have internet access anymore ?!??!

If I bought 2 wifi extenders to set up as access points and connect each of them to the router with their own ethernet cables, can I can set both up at once in the browser or do I have have to do it one at a time? My inlaws router is in the corner of the basement. The wifi is poor upstairs at the other end of the house.
You will have to setup one at a time.
When using the Netgear EX3700 as an access point, you need to connect the Netgear AP to your router with a cable, correct? I couldn't tell by the video if the Netgear AP needed to be connected to a computer, PS4, etc., or your router via cable.
Yes, in AP mode the extender needs the ethernet port to connect to the router. If you want to use the PS4 wired, you will want to use extender mode.

You can, although they still don't have the seamless roaming.
Access Point mode is a better & more solid way to extend your network.

Hello HelpCloud, I am very new to this so i will try to keep my question short and sweet. Can you use this device in “range extender” mode but with the physical Ethernet connection supplying network connectivity rather than wireless? In short, I have an area of my home where I have added ethernet connectivity but I have very poor Wi-Fi signal. Rather than create a secondary network, I wonder if I can make this connection with an access point and duplicate the existing WiFi network in the affected area. I hope my question makes sense.
Not this model, what you are explaining is access point mode. This will still create a secondary network.

Help I have a setup far from my motem I use a PS4 setup with a monitor etc. I have horrible internet and can’t get a good connection to my WiFi, is this the product for me? Can I use this a Ethernet option to boost my WiFi and if so what mode do I use?
You will need to place the extender where it can get a good signal to repeat. From there you can run a cable.

I installed a ring pro 2 at my front door and its got bad wifi its at my front door then you climb a flight of stairs into ANOTHER DOOR then 20 feet into my living room is my optimum router. I bought a small netgear wifi extender and it helped but still not great. What would be the best way to get a strong wifi signal to it? I can run a ethernet cable down by door but what do I need to do since the cheap wife extender didn't help much?I don't know anything about computers or internet wifi. Geek squad told me to buy a mesh system,another said buy a access point,another said just buy the 40 dollar wifi extender.....lol i have no idea what any does accept the extender I hooked up now. I can get a ethernet cable from my router to the sheetrock wall the ring is installed to so I could put a wifi router literally 4 inches behind the ring pro 2 on the interior wall,, i just don't know if i can buy another router and plug it in to work.. A wired option is going to be the most reliable setup. If you have already tried the extender, the wired option may be your best bet. Is the Ring bell strictly WiFi?

Yes, AP mode allows you to create a new wireless network, although the router will still be handing out the IPs

This is universal.
I'm looking into buying one of these because the router my isp provides is kinda crap in regards to wireless connectivity (such us hiccups and lack of 5ghz band). I'll be using it only in ap mode right beside my router and will deactivate the wifi on my primary router. How's the signal coverage of this device?
Overall it does pretty good, requires a reboot once in a while but I have about 8-10 things using it.
@@HelpCloud I see, thanks for the reply and the videos as well, not many test the ap functionality of WiFi repeaters. From what I've seen, they also offer good support, latest firmware was released a month ago, I'd say it's worth the extra cost over the tp link ones.
What happens if I can’t fond the connection on my phone?
The setup most likely failed. Factory reset and try again.

Yes for AP mode, the ethernet needs to be plugged into your router/modem.

Guys remember, that if your Wi-Fi doesn’t show up, you have to press connect manually to SSID and enter the credidential. I recommend to only connect to 2.4 because it will not cause you trouble and it automatically make 5g and 2.4g connection

Is ap mode the same thing as hard wiring or ethernet because i want to connect my xbox to the extender?
If you want to wire your Xbox. You will use extender mode. This allows it to grab the signal and send it through to the xbox via the ethernet.
So if I want an access point am I able to connect the extender to my existing wifi and then connect an enthernet cable to my PS4?
The AP mode uses an Ethernet from the Router/Modem to the Ethernet on the device. If you want to use it the way you described, you would use extender mode.
My extender didn't show up on my wifi options on my laptop or phone and even my new Netgear router won't connect to the internet, but my 10 year old router will. I think I am done with Netgear products since the new ones don't work
I would factory reset both and reset up if you can.

I just bought this very device and want it to boost the WiFi signal (as I live in the detached garage of a house, and the signal from the house is weak) but I’m thinking I’m better off getting a very long Ethernet cable and running it roughly 40 feet from the house to my device in my garage.. I think this would work better

Either will work, you aren't likely to get speeds above a cat5e through it.

You can put it in AP mode which you can run an ethernet from the router to the unit. You can also plug an ethernet into the extender to the computer in extender mode.

Looking further into this issue, it appears this is a common problem users have reported over time with not a lot of answers from Netgear.

For AP mode you need to be plugged in with a Ethernet cable. Are you wanting AP mode or extender mode?

@@HelpCloud tried that. At some point my it messed up my network and some of my devices couldn't connect to the WiFi (ip address issue I guess). Stopped everything, will try again tomorrow

Can I connect it to a PS4?
Yes! You can do that by accessing the routers page and go to LAN setup.
If the LAN IP is 192.168.1.1 then use the following information:
IP Address: 192.168.1.x(any number from 2-253)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 198.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.2
You can also check if you have option for the PS4 to obtain IP dynamically so there's no need for you enter the details above.
My WPS wont go on.

@@HelpCloud I hold the WPS button on the extender for 5 seconds. Then push the WPS button on my router. The light blinks for awhile than shuts off. I cant get on the website either. Instructions looked easy but nothing happening the way its supposed to for me.

The Netgear needs the Ethernet plugged in FROM the router in order to use in AP mode. If you want to go from Netgear to PC, you will want extender mode.
