Instructional video demonstrating the setting up of the NETGEAR EX3700 AC750 Wifi Extender as an 'Access Point' buy plugging in an ethernet cable connected from your router into the extenders 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet port.
The ’Access Point’ configuration allows you to connect your extender to your router in conditions where connecting it over Wi-fi are not suitable. For example, your router may not have Wi-fi, the distance between your Wi-fi and extender is larger than the range can transmit, your walls are super thick concrete or many other reasons were only an Ethernet cable will suffice.

Hi Sean. Thanks so much for this. Netgear documentation and help guides were pretty unhelpful. You have provided here an excellent STEP BY STEP, WALK THROUGH guide to setting up the Netgear extender as an access point, something that is just not provided ANYWHERE else even half as clearly. Thanks, the Netgear guide was useless for setting up an access point. All it explained was how to set up the wireless extender.

Thanks a bunch. The quick start guide packaged with this thing is useless and if you bought it more than 90 days ago Netgear doesn't want to hear from you. My screens differed somewhat from yours but you gave me enough info to find my way through it. I will take it out to my shop and connect it in the morning to see if it works out there. (I have a cable run out there so I think it will reconnect with no problem.)

Can you set up multiple Wi-Fi extenders and would you be able to have one Wi-Fi extender connected to another Wi-Fi extender that’s already connected to The router?
if two wifi connectors are in range of the router at the same time, and they area also in range of each other, and they are broadcasting the same ssid, then you will tend to have problems. Wifi extenders can connect to each other. I advise broadcasting different ssids for each extender since it will make it much more explicit how they are configured. Its a bit of a pain to keep manually reconnecting your phone to the closest extender when you move around the house, but it works much better in case of conflicting extenders broadcasting the same ssid within range of each other.

I installed a ring pro 2 at my front door and its got bad wifi its at my front door then you climb a flight of stairs into ANOTHER DOOR then 20 feet into my living room is my optimum router. I bought a small netgear wifi extender and it helped but still not great. What would be the best way to get a strong wifi signal to it? I can run a ethernet cable down by door but what do I need to do since the cheap wife extender didn't help much?I don't know anything about computers or internet wifi. Geek squad told me to buy a mesh system,another said buy a access point,another said just buy the 40 dollar wifi extender.....lol i have no idea what any does accept the extender I hooked up now. I can get a ethernet cable from my router to the sheetrock wall the ring is installed to so I could put a wifi router literally 4 inches behind the ring pro 2 on the interior wall,, i just don't know if i can buy another router and plug it in to work.. ANY CLEAR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.....thanks buddy

Big question! Could I connect my PS4 to this device through an Ethernet cable (LAN) for a direct connection? Please answer
plug the routers ethernet cable into a switch, then also plug the extender into the switch, then plug your ps4 into the switch also. That's the setup I have at my house. I have an 8 port switch in between the extender and my router.

no, the 'access point' option always needs the ethernet cable. it is connected to your router that way. You should choose the option 'wifi range extender' instead. see video @2:27, and then your extender will connect to your router over wifi. I think that the naming of the options is not that self descriptive on the netgear extender.
So I’ve done all steps up till the start.htm, as when I press go it redirects me to the new extender setup rather to the extender setup guide anyways to get around? The start.htm says user login and not status
Can I use it as an access point without the lan cable? If was to want to connect it to my existing wifi and then use the lan port to connect it to my PS4 how would I do it?
Looks like this should also work on the AC1200 (same appearance, similarly lousy instructions from Netgear itself) but perhaps I was over optimistic? After the factory reset, the box resets itself to extender mode before I get to the set up pages and reconnects to my main router, thwarting the entire procedure.

However, I have tried many times but the box keeps reconnecting to the main router that it has been extending, so the IP# is rather cryptic, not a typical 192.168... etc..., and doesn't work as URL. Maybe a dumb question, but when I am doing this, should I switch off the main router first so that it doesn't pick up the signal and start extending, which seems to be its default mode?
maybe the factory reset part at the beginning didn't happen. you should see the new wifi ssid appear in the list called 'netgear ext'. if you are connecting to your main router with an ethernet cable, make sure you select the 'access point' option as shown @2:20
Can this device serve as a wired extender for a mesh network? As in, walk downstairs and not have to log into "network name 5G" every time. I just want to seamlessly walk downstairs and still be connected to the same wifi. I understand that this device is an "extender" and can do what I'm saying, but in my basement the extender's wireless range cannot reach my router/modem upstairs. I have an ethernet cable that i can connect it to (through the ceiling and down). Similar to a school or large office building. Walk around, but same wifi. Or do I need to invest in Netgear's EX6250, EX7000, or EX8000 device?
Yes, you can set it that way, but it is still very slow before your phone to decides to reconnect to the stronger signal. It works better to broadcast different ssids and reconnect manually as needed.

When I connect to the net gear where it asks you to sign in it doesn't show the login and cancel at the top so I cant get that message you need to press to show up is there any other way I can sort this out
Same for me , it’s a struggle . At first I was able to mange to get it done twice but everytime I did it , a day or two later it stops working , it doesn’t let me connect to the extender even when all the buttons are solid green and when I do connect to it , it’s not working so I factory reset it and now it’s not working and just frustrating and the login page not even popping up

What happens when you try to go back to 1.250 after the fact?
After I run SMART SETUP it enables a redirect and any page all goes to the login page, no way to get around it and configure it after that, it seems.
try going to the page [ip address]/start.htm directly. If you don't know the ip address of the extender, your router admin page may be able to tell you. Its name will probably be EX3700. Note that you need to visit start.htm directly by typing it into the address bar. make sure you type start.htm and not start.html. my extender firmware version is V1.0.0.76_1.0.49
Can I used that set up(access point ) to netgear EX6120?
Do you need to connect the booster with an ethernet cable, or can you set it up without one?
During setup, press the ‘Wi-fi extender setup’ button rather than the ‘access point’ button. This will give you options to connect to your router using Wi-fi, rather than Ethernet cable. Of course, your extender will need to be in range of your Wi-fi router.
What's the difference access point and range extender
You use the range extender option when don’t have an Ethernet cable to connect to your router with. The range extender option will connect to your router using the WiFi signal instead. Your extender will need to be in good WiFi range of your router.

Can I unplug the wire after?
Not in the access point setup. Since the extender is connected to your router via the cable. This setup is best, if your extender isn't able to connect to your router due to distance being to far for signal, or your router doesn't actually broadcast wifi.
Does the password for the extender have to be the same as the router password
Not for this kind of setup. This is setting up the wifi extender as an independent access point, rather than a wifi extender for your existing wifi signal

My customer was given this netgear extender and who ever had it before enter all personal info including email and everything and when I go to page where it ask for it I don’t have that information how can I bypass that or factory reset that info for this customer?

Mine doesn’t show
I purchased one. My computer will not allow me to connect on the 2 gig frequency because of security issues. The 5 gig ban works but there are warnings of security not being up to date. I tried to update firmware but spent two days with no success in updating firmware. Support you ask - there has been no support, no chat, no call back, no email. The community suggested somethings but none worked. This is crap. Do not purchase if you are concerned about internet security.
