YOU'RE THE BEST! Thank you for keeping me from having to return this. I'm often good at figuring things out, however the quick installation guide was gibberish for me. Your instructions cleared everything up.
Btw, I actually skipped the 5GHz setup because I didn't think it was available for me, but it was after all and the device set it up for me automatically using the same info I put in for the 2.4 setup, so that was cool. Also, I should mention that on my second speed test I actually saw the needle get up to 43 mbps for download (on my erratic, premium hotspot account). In the past it rarely got above 30. Upload speed so far is below 8. At times in the past, upload speed was regularly above 20 while download speed was between 4 and 15. I never know what it will be. Speeds are higher late at night so I'll test it again tonight.

With that ethernet port, can I plug in a cable from the extender to another router in another room where the signal is weak then connect to the router?
Does anyone know about how some internet companies allow the admin to put time restrictions on certain devices? Well that gets annoying, especially when I’m trying to do schoolwork and my wifi gets cut. Turns out this thing bypasses those restrictions! Awesome!
That's weird. This extender shouldn't have any special bypass system. Sounds like you just had crappy signal and since this extends your signal, this worked for you.
Good video but you left out the speed differences between using the extender and being in the same room as the modem. Probably the most important part.
A lot depends on your primary WiFi router speed and what the extenders signal has to go through to connect to your router and your WiFi device...example thick walls, floors, overlapping neighbors wifi signals, router channel being used...etc. Location placement is the key to success for all extenders.
@@nickscomputerfix we all know that a lot depends on floors and walls. that's the problem we're trying to deal with by getting the extender. My modem gets 1 gb of speed, my computer upstairs sometimes is as slow as 25 mbps. I want an extender or a mesh system to get it as high as can be downstairs.

Just got a TP Link extender, plugged it in and set it up and now the connection is even slower and more unstable (constant dropped signal etc) than the original piece of shit router that can't get through 2-3 thin walls without losing 75% of the modem speed.
You can have multiple extenders on a home network. However, they can not be daisy chained together. Each Extender must connect wirelessly or via Ethernet cable directly to your primary wifi router/modem.
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Extender location is the primary key to getting the best signal quality and most distance out of any extender not just this one. You might experience interference problems, cut offs, signal drops, or no signal at all, for example: thick walls or floors, other electronic equipment or extender might be to far away from router...etc. Test until you find the best sweet spot somewhere mid way between your Primary Router and your Wifi device connecting to the extender, then plug it into an AC outlet and test signal quality. This might be a stupid question. I'm trying to extend the range for one device, a wireless security camera that is far from my router. I just want to extend the signal to that camera. Does the TP-link act as a "dumb Terminal"? Meaning, not having to connect to the "_EXT" wifi?
For security you should connect it up to _EXT wifi with a password. If the security camera has a Ethernet port you can use CAT5 cable and connect it up to the Extenders LAN port.
@@nickscomputerfix My _EXT wifi is configured with the password. My question was if I just use my home SSID instead of the _EXT, will the TP-Link still broadcast to the device, ( camera )?
Any wireless device you want to communicate with through the TP-LINK has to be connected to the TP-LINK Extender SSID either the default SSID or custom named SSID that you would/could assign during the Extender setup.
@@nickscomputerfix FYI, I've got off the phone with Tp-link support and they said it is possible to broadcast signal using the original SSID. You just have to remove the _EXT on settings. Here is a guy on you tube that claims it too. ruclips.net/video/_O6jmiGI3rg/видео.html. You can also look at your wifi bars at highest peak.
A WiFi Extender extends your WiFi out further from your primary router providing a better more consistent solid WiFi signal. You will be able to connect to the Ethernet port with PS4 for a better solid connection.
I just got this new TP-Link AC1200 model that looks exactly like this one in your video. At first, I set it up using Option TWO with WPS buttons. It showed blue indicator lights, but shorty I realized that my laptop doesn't have a good internet connection even though it's right beside the Extender. Now, watching your video I realized that once it's plugged I should see both SSID bends so I can set it up on my computer. I CAN'T SEE any SSID from extender! What am I doing wrong? Now, I am not sure if my Extender is doing any good at all even though all the indicator, lights that should be on, are BLUE. Any help would be appreciated!
I suggest trying a Extender reset and then going through my video steps again: 1) Locate the Extender closer to your Router. 2) Perform a repeater reset by using the RESET button (press/push and hold for a real 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and after 10 seconds go through the setup steps again as shown in my video.
How much improvement are you able to get from the extension? It's expected the TPLink is intended for areas with weak connection, say 1mbps from original source of 35mbps?
Extender location is the primary key to getting the best signal quality and most distance out of any extender. Also try moving the Extender closer to where your router is located while setting it up, then you can move it if you need to. When you switch ISP Internet Service Providers and/or get a new internet WiFi router/modem you will need to do a repeater reset by using the RESET button (press and hold for a REAL 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. Also when setting it up double check that you are using the correct WiFi password to connect to your router with the Extender during setting it up and again that it's close to the primary router during the setup and configuration steps
Hi just got this recently and works great however my main 5ghz from the modem stopped working...always buffering on "obtaining ip address" are you familiar with this issue across any products?
1) Try relocating the Extender closer to your wifi modem/router. 2) Try powering off and back on both Extender, Router/Modem. 3) Perform a repeater reset by using the RESET button (press and hold for a real 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. Also try moving the Extender closer to where your router is located while setting it up, then you can move it if you need to. What device can help in case where the clients are more that 25 making the internet slower even when you are near the router ??????do extenders help in such a situation
I suggest considering doing 2 things: 1) Change ISP plan to get more bandwidth (more download speed). 2) Get a Extender to boost signal in primary router weak zones.
Suggestions: 1) You most likely will need to perform a repeater reset by using the RESET button (press and hold for a REAL 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. 2) Move the extender closer to your wifi router/modem. 3) Also when setting it up, it's important to double check that you are using the correct wifi password to connect to your router/modem with the Extender during set up or you will not be able to make a connection to your new WiFi Extender or have no Internet connection.
May I consult a question: when you choose the Wifi to connect (6:16), if the available Wifi is a "weak" campus wifi (but the whole point is, to log in, you need not only the password but also your student ID), can you still use this device to extend it? Thanks!

But although I see the internet as being on, It won't even connect to speedtest.net.
When I try to acess tplinkrepeater.net, i get an error message.
Sorry it's all very complicated. ☺
Trying to boil it down.
Using extender and wif dongle only. I can test not out the extender, although one light is dispaying.
Can I connect with wire from main router to this extender as wireless repeater??
The ethernet port accepts a ethernet cable from main wireless repeater ( you can also set it up as AP).
When you configure it do you connect your computer to the extender via Ethernet or wireless
Wirelessly as shown in my video.
nickscomputerfix ok

Hi, does it maintain the same internet speed or it will change a bit?
A lot depends on your primary WiFi router quality and what the extenders signal has to go through to connect to your router and your WiFi device...example thick walls, floors, overlapping neighbors wifi signals, router channel being used...etc. Location placement is the key to success for all extenders.
How do I make my router signal 5ghz? It says on the router specs that it supports up to 5ghz. But when I opened my Router configuration I can't find WLAN 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I can only find WLAN Basic and WLAN Advance.
Thank you for the review.
My pleasure!
Nice so i dont need to plug in the cable in to the repater?
What is the ideal distance between the extender and the wireless router
Extender location is the primary key to getting the best signal quality and most distance out of any extender not just this one. You might experience interference problems, for example: thick walls or floors, other electronic equipment or extender might be to far away from router...etc. Test until you find the best sweet spot somewhere mid way between your Primary Router and your Wifi device connecting to the extender. This will give you the best consistently solid and strongest signal quality from the extender to your wifi device.
Nick,I have frontier 5g is that good? Please respond
No experience here with a Frontier 5G. However, if it's not broken don't fix it.😎
Very detailed video. 👌👍
Hi! Can u pls help me. My problem is with the signal light. I just recently bought this and no matter what i try, it still doesnt light up. Thanks!
Try a different device location. Move the Extender closer to your Primary WiFi router. Also: Suggest resetting using the RESET button (press and hold for 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet, then release button and go through the setup again as shown in my video

This might sound stupid but you can click on WPS button on the top of the device , this will turn the signal light on.

Does this have to be close to the router its self?
About mid way between your router and your computer device is best location.
Am I missing something? Where is the link in the description, as he indicated, to type into my web browser? I don't see it!
On his he clicked his wifi icon on bottom right of his computer and when he did it automatically opened Microsoft Edge and took him to the TP page, I would just download the TP-Link Tether app for android if that's what you use, create account and do those parts through the app.

Thank you so much! Actually, I watched another video since this one and it said to plug an ethernet cable between the TP-Link device and the computer. I did that, and the correct web page came up, no problem. So now I do it that way all the time!
But thank you so much, anyway! I really appreciate the information!
Camera doesn't have an Ethernet port
Any wireless device you want to communicate with through the TP-LINK has to be connected to the TP-LINK Extender SSID either the default SSID or custom named SSID that you would/could assign during the Extender setup.
@@nickscomputerfix FYI, I've got off the phone with Tp-link support and they said it is possible to broadcast signal using the original SSID. You just have to remove the _EXT on settings. Here is a guy on you tube that claims it too. ruclips.net/video/_O6jmiGI3rg/видео.html. You can also look at your wifi bars at highest peak.
Hi will this help me stop getting connection timeouts on my ps4?
A WiFi Extender extends your WiFi out further from your primary router providing a better more consistent solid WiFi signal. You will be able to connect to the Ethernet port with PS4 for a better solid connection.
And can it work with any WiFi network
It should according to Tp Link.
Thank you
I just got this new TP-Link AC1200 model that looks exactly like this one in your video.
@@nickscomputerfix Thanks a lot! It worked! Perfect instructions!
Hello does it has a mac filter setting?
No Mac filter setting available. But does allow Mac devices to connect to it and connect to the internet.
Hi! what if the source router has band steering functionality? how will the setup process go because 2.4 and 5Ghz are separate? Thanks!
How much does this thing cover in square??
Hi great video. I use a WiFi modem that allows me to connect 5 devices. Will thr ac1200 allow me to connect more devices?
How much improvement are you able to get from the extension? It's expected the TPLink is intended for areas with weak connection, say 1mbps from original source of 35mbps?

is there a need to have a cord to connect to the main modem?
Nope.
hi.. would this work if I set it up in my room?? But my modem is installed downstairs??
Best to set the Extender up near your primary wifi router first and then move it to a new location.
Is this increasing my Internet screen speed?
This device fix a problem , the tv would connect to the house modem but no internet so I hooked up the booster to my tv and tada internet working and no problems in Netflix
👌😎
Do we need to configure DHCP on the extender ?
No, it's automatically accomplished for you.
do i need a cad6 or fiber wire with that extender??????
No, but needs a Internet connection via a router.
Probably sounds like a stupid question but when trying to connect to the tp-link, the WiFi password is supposed to be the same as the router? It's not recognising the router password when trying to connect to the _EXT
It should be the same WiFi password that you use to connect your other WiFi devices....laptop, phone, tablet...etc.
@@nickscomputerfix Thank you for replying. Should being the optimal word. Both the _EXT and _2.4EXT won't let me connect to any device with the same password as my router. I even forgot the original router connection and then reconnected putting in the password and it connected, but that won't work for the extender
You most likely will need to perform a repeater reset again by using the RESET button (press and hold for a real 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. Also try moving the Extender closer to where your router is located while setting it up, then you can move it if you need to. Also when setting it up double check that you are using the correct wifi password to connect to your router with the Extender during setting it up.
@@nickscomputerfix Sorted! I tried resetting it as you said and still wasn't working, so I connected my laptop via ethernet cable from the extender, used the linkrepeater link and then followed your instructions. Just really annoying process lol. All sorted now though, thank you :)

Can I connect it yo the ps4?
There is an Ethernet port on the Extender that can be used to connect up a wifi device directly with Ethernet cable.

It’s the same for me it doesn’t work
Same problems with me
What if I don’t have 5g? Will it let me complete the setup without it?
Yes.
Hi Nick, I have same TP link extender same as what you have. Last week we shifted to another Apartment. My problem is that I cannot connect the Unit to the new WiFi, have some help please. Thanks
The network won’t even pop up on my phone
Also when setting it up double check that you are using the correct wifi password to connect to your router with the Extender during setting it up.

Resetting the modem and extender fixed it
for beginners, missed the import part: how to connect with PC?
If im out of coverage of the extender, and im near the original (source) router, does it mean ill keep on logging in..whichever signal im covered at?
Maybe
does this work on older homes like 1960s
Sure.
Same speed as being in the same room as the main router?
What device can help in case where the clients are more that 25 making the internet slower even when you are near the router ??????do extenders help in such a situation
I suggest considering doing 2 things: 1) Change ISP plan to get more bandwidth (more download speed). 2) Get a Extender to boost signal in primary router weak zones.

Hello. Mine is not showing up as TP-Link extender. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Thanks!
