  • IPAD MINI 6 will be available from 09/24
    The mini 5 can still be a good option if you find a sale or reduced price option. I will do my best to get an ipad mini 6 review out asap.
    I used the iPad mini 5 for about 2 months and these are my thoughts. Since I started drawing digitally I was always searching for a way to draw outside the house or office. The mini 5 definitely is what I was looking for years ago and seems like it might be one of the last of its kind until major changes in the way hardware and software are made. I hope you enjoy the review! I tried to make it as focused and cinematic as possible! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out in the comments! Also sorry about the audio quality, I was still getting over a cold and did not have time to record on another day...
    I did a review for the controller right here
    • This $6 accessory make...
    It has helped me draw on the mini much more efficiently.
    Also I mainly use Clip Studio and Procreate on iOS, so I'm sorry I did not have that much footage for the other apps featured in the video. They seemed to work well though!
    Most of the illustrations are of people or characters from on instagram

    Oh my word! Thank you so much for this review. I've been watching reviews of the new Ipad Mini 5 since I'm thinking of getting one to have a digital sketchbook that works just as good as when I work on my Cintiq. What really gave me a good laugh with this review is that you have an Asus Vivotab 8 XD I bought that same tab hoping it's make a good digital sketchpad. But it'd didn't work. Great tab but not for drawing. So thank you for this! This review, like the others I've seen only affirms my choice =) Also your art is really good!

      Thank you so much for the wonderful comment!! Im glad you liked the video! I have a cintiq 13hd and enjoy drawing on the mini as much if not more so if you are going in hoping for the mini 5 to be a digital sketchbook i think you will be very happy! It may take a little while to get use to it, maybe mess around with the pressure curves in apps until you match what you have on the desktop! Haha! so im not the only one >w< I really tired to use the vivotab 8 for sketching, even downloading on screen tap shortcuts but it never worked out... the mini 5 is seriously what i wanted the vivotab to be so im sure youll be happy with it! Hello and thank you for the comment! I'm glad I could help. The mini 5 is a very capable device especially if you are going for ultra potablity! If you aren't used to drawing digitally the small size could be a little cramped when learning but otherwise I have used it for a long time and love it! Also to note, there have been rumors for a while of a next gen mini. They come and go so it's hard to say but it's worth knowing and if you found a good deal on the mini 5 it will still be very usable even with a new one. Also the smallest storage option can be tough between the operating system a few apps and drawings...

    Yeah! same here. I got an Ipad Air 3 last month and it runs very perfectly I do extremely intricate animations using Clip Studio EX on canvases as big as 3000X5000 pixels with a 300 DPI. And it still runs incredibly smoothly which is something that my expensive laptop can't even do. Heck even if you weren't an illustrator and you did graphic design and such. I'd still say any of the Ipads that came out in 2017 and onward can handle 60% to 70% of what most professional designers can do and I can already tell that number is going to go up to 90% once Photoshop CC is out on the Ipad later on this year.
    Also it's a very durable Ipad as well I'm speaking from experience because I stupidly dropped it once from a nearly 3 feet high surface and it still runs perfectly with no scratches, dents or cracks haha.

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  5 лет назад

      Thank you so much for the comment! I feel the same way the early iPad pros could chug a bit on heavy apps but the more modern ones have enough power and are are so smooth and responsive in general! Coming from using all those old tablets it's really unbelievable where we are today! I barely have to use my desktop for drawing and once Photoshop and sidecar are available I think my desktop will just be for serious work stuff. Haha glad your iPads still working! The mini has seen it's fair share or dings being with me daily but no major scratches and dents!

      Hello and thank you for the question! In my opinion if you want to learn to draw and watch videos the medium sized ipad (9.7inch pro, 10.5 inch pro, 11inch pro, 10.2inch 7th gen) are a good balance between size and portability. The mini is great to take everywhere but quite small for watching videos and im afraid that learning to draw on a small screen might be frustrating. So, i usually recommend the medium sized ipads but if you want to be ultra portable the mini is very good! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

      Hello. I don't necessarily do animation and I haven't used the 10.2 iPad extensively but I always recommend the mid sized iPads to people who don't already own a larger iPad for drawing. They are still very portable and the apps on iOS are very well optimized for most tasks. I would see if there are any resources for how well the apps you want to use run on the entry level iPads. As far as procreate is concerned it is pretty light weight and stable and should work fine. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

It has one of the best brush engines around and so many great features for making complex illustrations, a precise tool like the Apple Pencil will surely help the experience. I would also recommend using a keyboard or a Bluetooth controller like in this video ruclips.net/video/kMunyXC6_Eo/видео.html with a keyboard it’s much easier to smoothly work on a drawing switching between brushes and quickly entering commands like undo and redo without lifting your pencil. As far as drawing with clip studio I have a few tutorials and drawing time lapses here that may help and I want to do a review or guide or clip studio at some point! I hope that helps please let me know if you have any other questions and I hope you can get an Apple Pencil soon as it is one of the best tools for drawing in my opinion!

    Having owned a host of early and late intuos tablets, 3 generations of pen tablet convertible asusR1f, ep121 lenovov x230, the 12wx ,13 cintiq and a couple of huions I found your review very relatable! Personally, I became quite allergic to the traditional mediums I preferred and have since been endlessly lured by the promise of a digital 'drawing experience' .. only to face various handicaps across all these sorts of devices. Though I take a somewhat different approach to sketching/painting - more in the manner of pastel drawing/painting, I appreciate that you put this device in the perspective of its usage as more or less a dedicated portable sketchpad, and your great examples show a range of different capabilities of the mini so far as sketching/painting. I hadn't seriously considered an ipad pro previously, due to prohibitive cost in a product that essentially cant run any of my preferred apps or other extended baggage, however I do drag around a pad of paper nearly every day and could see this potentially replacing that, if I chose not to go with another, essentially desktop bound tablet display for linework/drawing.
    I do wonder - are you aware of any case that extends drag/rest area for the hand around the bezel - for holding the tablet on the go? Apart from its most obvious limitations in size, probably the only reason I haven't gone yet for the mini as an all round mid-term drawing option, is that when you include the apple pencil, case, and matte screen protector as part of the equation, it becomes comparable in price with a second hand smaller ipad pro. Even so, this is still considerably more expensive than any one of a range of more than decent 13 - 15" tablet displays (xp-pen and huion's current tech is very promising, at least when compared to the bulk of my wacom - intuos pad experiences) I was wondering, if you could only have one portable on the go/at home drawing device would you ever consider a second hand ipad pro? Are the lower processor and potential for abuse of drawing - sensor/screen components too great a risk, or does the mini's extra processor/pocketability outweight a marginally greater working area in the best case scenario (say 10.5 older ipad pro vs 7.9 ) ? Thank you for your contribution to this seemingly endless quest for a workable, portable digital drawing/painting solution. I'm glad you have at last reached a happy and productive place!

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  4 года назад

      Thank you so much for the comment! It's so nice to read and covers everything I'm interested in haha
      I've tried many devices and for many years my gold standard was still the cintiq 13hd, even now it is difficult to top the mat screen and overall feel of them and so I keep them around just in case. But like you said many companies now make devices with pens that promise something but rarely deliver. Whether its drivers or the pen itself there is usually something that sends me down a long road of looking for hacks and solutions... I just got the surface go 2 and although some software runs well out of the box, my favorite tools dont necessarily work. It really makes me appreciate the iPad, however limited it is, because it "just works". There are many aspects of Apples products I do not like, but compared to a windows device any iPad makes a great sketchbook. From unlocking a device to drawing is as fast as flipping open a sketchbook and just as inviting. The problem with a lot of windows tablets, for me, is they don't necessarily function well as a tablet especially with drawing apps. When you can sit down windows may have the edge but just toying with the surface go 2 I wonder if the nice windows features are worth the hassle. Over the past 3 or so years I feel like drawing has become more fun with the iPad because it strips away a lot of the complexity, as much as I do enjoy customization and what not. The things that frustrate me about iPads feel like they can be solved eventually but with windows it is such an integrated part of the operating system and software that it may not get to the place I want it to be.
      Hmmm... With apples cover you could form a grip of sorts, and some cases made for children have handles. I know people put those rings or rubber grip on the back of their phones to prop them up or not drop them. One of those may help you hold the iPad better for drawing on the go! I'll have to look into that, but I've been able to use the 9.7 inch pro and mini 5 pretty much as is. As far as price and accessories, I'll bring up the surface go 2 again. I went with the m3 model which is $630 but a type cover is $100 and the pen is also $100. The total is in the range of an older or used iPad with a pencil and so the choice does become a bit complicated. I feel like both devices will be supported for quite some time which is nice. If I could only have one device it would probably be a mid sized iPad, the mini is great but I don't see any noticeable performance differences between my 9.7 and mini unless I really push it. Even then I haven't done any side by side comparison. The medium sized iPads are still very portable and are kind of a jack of all trades, I can sketch and do serious work without too much effort. The mini is a great sketchbook that could let you finish a piece, but that extra screen space is nice for more intense work. Something like the 10.5 inch pro would be a nice size and spec for price machine that also offers the faster frame rate screen. The big issue I have with iPads is there isn't an elegant way to prop them up on a table to get nice drawing angles. Logitech makes nice cases with a hinge but not for the newest 2018 and 2020 pros (as of now).
      I hope that helps! I'm always searching for the best drawing solutions and I really appreciate messages like yours. Feel free to reach out any time! Right now the state of these devices is better than ever and I think we will reach a really nice place soon! Thank you!

      @@tsukepen Thank you for reply and info, incidentally, my last google search for a 10.5 ipad pro model revealed news of a batch of recently discounted 10.5 models with the 120hz screen.. my first impression of the apple pencil! Your reflections on the simplicity and convenience of a tablet and apple in general really resonate. I have avoided the 'ecosystem' to date, largely because I am experienced building and upgrading my own PCs and more recently a linux convert. Though, after all the hyper analysis and comparison of features on non apple solutions, the immediacy it offers is probably always what I have been chasing through various iterations of the convertible pen tablet. I like to model/animate/texture/program a bit too but appreciate also the need for a dedicated device for drawing above all else - it seemed almost insulting after years throwing money at wacom for apple to come along and from scratch beat them at pure sketching experience! I guess I still throw the benefit of doubt behind wacom's newer cintiq 16 line - but I am yet to be able to try one in an official shop, and recently saw example of a serious bug with their 6d rotation pen on this tablet screen; immediately ending my love affair, I was also recently told by a state supplier that they are apparently discontinuing those pens(?)
      My earlier 13hd was also a bit of a turnoff due to the slippery calibration, so it wasnt quite the 'visible intuos4' that I had hoped for. More recent models feel far more impressive but not without issue, though hardly more portable in most instances. Until recently, the rotation pen had been about the only feature left separating the wacoms from anything else for me so far as a 'tradigital' painting approach, as there was the prospect of alternating between rotatable, flat calligraphic type shape brushes with another tool assigned to a standard tilt pen. Despite all this, light pressure control, angular shading or lack of, and parallax have remained by far the the most obvious common blocks to productivity so far as initial sketching. I have since found ways to work with only tilt/direction, albeit not to the extent that the apple pencil allows - to shade with the side of the pencil near flat for example.
      I appreciate the breadth of your consideration on the topic and comments regarding cases and angle/mounting options - the rubber child solution sounds rather appropriate tbh. I have also been looking at pro camera tripod mounts as one part of a possible combined solution, perhaps a 10.5 ish ipad/pro with eventually a central 15.6" size screen tablet hooked up to linux based desktop or laptop for mixed 2d and 3d applications. However I admit, I am getting quite desperate for a quality drawing/painting solution in order to finish some current assignments! I am surprised you find such use for the ipad also, I suppose responsiveness of pressure and tight calibration are the things I look for rather than parallax so much, but outside of procreate I am intent on using krita, (which uses opengl in its accelerated mode) - not sure how an ipad might handle this brush engine as opposed to the ipad pro, however pure availability/accessibility of ipads may just get the better of me. I could be coaxed in this direction!
      It is indeed a fascinating and often frustrating topic between base hardware, os support (or lack of) and mounting/case and other ergonomic considerations.. but glad to have found ti seems a kindred spirit. I look forward to hearing further of your experience with the surface go. Can it be loaded with linux?! I am surprised at how easily a driver for some of the cheaper brand huion and xp pen tablets can be cobbled together in linux and how well wacom devices are supported in general, but it could be easy to get carried away with all this tinkering and not get on simply with drawing [out of the box]!

      Of course! Always happy to talk tech especially something this specific.
      The one thing I wish I had was the high refresh screen... every time i hold out for a new ipad the upgrade doesnt feel worth it and i wait. It's great that apples old products are still usable, it is a testament to their optimization that a 3 year old product can keep up with new machines from other manufacturers. I also have a custom PC and have always tried to tinker and hack my computers to do more so it was difficult to give in to the apple experience haha its great to have control over the operating system and components so i never liked apples approach for computers, and for a few years the iPad pro wasnt replacing my cintiq but things have come a long way. It could definitely change for good or for bad if apple decides to go in a different direction and just brick a bunch of systems and workflows. But for now it's a far cry from the days of updating drivers and hoping things would work haha The hardware is good and should run things great, I mean the new iPad pros are probably more powerful than the baseline macbook pros. I think it really comes down to the app coverage, there just inst a pro solution for everything. I do a little 3d modeling on the side, the apps on ipad are great but every so often you hit a speed bump of something you cant do. Same goes for video editing. So in a lot of ways the iPad is the sketchbook to easily start something and progress until you hit that wall, then you can take it to a proper computer and do the more intense work. I think if you come at the iPad in that way, you'll enjoy the experience!
      Hmmm for my artwork I dont necessarily use too much tilt and other functions so the 13hd has been fine. But when i played around with Maya on a friends machine i could tell those small details and nuances were picked up. The apple pencil has great tilt recognition and with the right app and brush combination it can be really surprising. I dont pick up on much parallax but one of the main difficulties for me that still persists is the lack of a cursor. It may be the years of using windows machines or just my imagination but on the apple pencil sometimes i have trouble connecting lines when zoomed out. Its only a little annoyance because zooming in helps with the accuracy but if you feel like the cursor is important the apple pencil may have a steeper learning curve.
      Cases are something i think about a lot for ipads. Drawing on a flat surface or the ~45degree angle of apples cases is bad for the neck... it is one of the strangest things to me that apple makes one of the best drawing tablets yet provides very little in the face of using it ergonomically. Your best bet might be one of the cases for kids, they are plentiful and add a lot of grip and room to rest your palm! If im not mistaken there is a case that is kind of like an easel, or something you drop the ipad into and it gives you a lot of room to place your arm and draw. I have a video on cases and my solution for the drawing angle and in that i used a joby tablet mount which is almost perfect! Its also versatile, allowing the iPad to be used in portrait or landscape.
      As far as iPad apps go, I think clip studio is the gold standard. It is very similar if not the same as the desktop app but has nice quick menus and touch gestures. Other than that artstudio pro is full featured and similar to sai and krita. Unfortunately krita isnt available for iPadOS but there are a number of apps that work well beyond those that i mentioned. It is just difficult to get accustomed to a new program sometimes, especially when they dont feel "professional".
      Yes! It has been really nice meeting people through these videos that share similar interests! I'm glad that i'm not the only one who thinks about all this haha I don't have experience with linux but i would assume you could run it on the surface go. I really should get into more coding and software development... Sometimes when there is no solution you have to do it yourself i guess? haha but the problem with the modern surface line is most likely with the pen and the hardware. It has a strange taper at the end of the stroke. There might be a software fix but it might also be the way Microsoft approached the pen itself. Even when pressure is there every so often a stroke isnt recognized or there is some error... I'll be doing a lot of research for that video because the go 2 is a nice little tablet. Also I would love to know more about what you have done on linux to get better or custom drivers! haha yeah the other thing about windows is setting up everything and installing all your apps and drivers can take some time compared to the iPad... but i do love setting up a fresh machine

      Hello and thank you for the comment! I actually use the mini 5 pretty frequently and for the most part it is still an excelent tool even with the mini 6 being available. It really depends on how you want to use it though. For sketching and light work I think the mini 5 will hold up for a few more years, but as we see more powerful programs come to iPads it will struggle to keep up. The 1st gen apple pencil is also probably on its way out so if you upgrade in the future you will most likely have to purchase a new pencil, so the mini 6 has a few advantages in that sense. I hope that helps if you have any further questions please feel free to ask!

    The mini is the most appealing so far in term of budget but I was still wondering how it hold for paintings.
    Most of the review focused in the sketching aspect but not the painting part so it's nice to have that cleared up
    My main reason to get a tablet was this thought : "I want to be able to do digital painting wherever I go whenever I want"
    So the ipad mini looks like the best choice far although I'd like to have a bigger screen to present my portfolio.
    Either I go for a bigger Ipad or I get another tablet to show my work.

      Hello and thank you for the comment. This is a question i get asked a lot and my typical answer tends to be go with the middle size, it is still extremely portable and powerful just a little more comfortable with the mini for a lot of tasks. Unless you are very minimalist and want to carry just a wallet, phone, keys and the mini a small bag should be able to fit the middle sized ipad without much of an issue. If you don't have any ipads its also nice to have a middle sized one to watch videos and what not along with drawing. I love the mini, it is capable of meeting m drawing needs even for full colored pieces and often take it with no bag out to a cafe. It's great but if it is your only device i worry that some times youll be wanting more room to work on complex piece. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions please let me know. Thank you.

      Hello and thank you for the comment! I can relate to your situation, my desk can sometimes get really messy and it inhibits my work. In those times I definitely found some clarity in the simplicity of the iPad and with a keyboard or a controller like this one (ruclips.net/video/kMunyXC6_Eo/видео.html) getting actual work done on the iPad isn't a struggle. As far as procreate goes, it is an interesting app that is limited by its origins as an iOS app. I have made a video on procreate but the price is great and I still use it for sketching quite often. I would recommend trying clip studio paint as it is powerful and versatile and a pretty direct desktop port so it has way fewer limitations than procreate. If you like paint tool sai I would also recommend checking out my videos on EasyCanvas. It's an app that mirrors your desktop onto an iPad with pen pressure support, I use it to run paint tool sai 2 (dev. edition) on my iPad. Lastly, I do like to recommend the middle sized iPads to just about anyone. In a slightly larger footprint they offer a lot more versatility especially if you are using it as a desktop replacement. The mini is still very capable but if your primary use is at home the size can be a little frustrating at times. Hope that helps please let me know if you have any other questions!

      Hello and thanks for the question! Hmmm it depends. Do you have a Mac? Because if you do using airdrop can be a really good solution to the lower storage option. If you just use the mini to sketch the files shouldn't be too large especially if you back them up and delete old ones. But between the os and apps 64 gigs goes fairly quickly... The medium sized iPads may feel more familiar to you if you have a medium sized intuos and it's still very portable. I got the 256 for the mini because I feel apple won't update the mini for a few years and since I bring it with me everywhere it's just nice to have! But maybe not entirely necessary. Hopefully we can figure out the right iPad for you!

      As far as the performance of the a10 chip I've been running clipstudio on the mini almost as good as my custom PC so I don't think performance would be an issue for 2D drawing! Even with a few updates the majority of drawing apps shouldn't have any trouble with the a10 chip and 2-3 gigs of RAM in entry level iPads today!

    I have the 2017 12.9 and even tho still amazing, its way too big to draw on the go. I have the note 9 for the past year but realized due to lack of apps, it just sucks to draw with it. But this, the ipad mini seems to answer all my demands for portable sketchbook. And its amazing that it supports all the accessories of my 12.9 pro like charger and pencil so I dont need a new one. The larger ipad seems great for using at home but unfortunately android isnt the best for drawing and windows can be inconvenient at times, especially on the go. Since you already use a 12.9 ipad pro the mini is the same experience but a lot smaller haha and i use the same apple pencil and accessories on both of my ipads! And with airdrop or some cloud system you can take you could work at home and take that with you on the go or finish a sketch you did out of the house when you get back! That is seriously one of the best features for me! Hello and thank you so much for the comment and compliment! It is a question I get asked often, or at least something similar. I typically say that the middle sized iPads are a great balance between usability, portability and performance. Especially if you don’t have any other drawing devices it can be helpful to have just a little more room to work. I love the mini 5 to this day and it is just as capable of a drawing device as your average iPad. If you have other tablets or are more interested in say a sketchbook you can take anywhere the mini might be the better choice. I haven’t used the air 3 specifically but I have used the 9.7 inch pro and assume it is a similar experience. I’d say both are very good options and should be comfortable for many kinds of drawings. I hope that helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

      Hello and thank you for the comment! Let me first ask, do you have an iPad mini 5? The apple pencil (that's the name) can only be used on the iPad mini 5 and only the first generation apple pencil. It is not necessary to draw but the apple pencil provides a digital drawing experience that is very close to what you would get with paper and pencil. It is pretty incredible and in my opinion better than most professional drawing tablets. There are alternatives for ipad from makers such as Adonit and Wacom that use bluetooth to have some pen pressure and tilt effects but they are no where near as good as the apple pencil. As far as apps, you could draw in apples own notes app but I would recommend spending a little to get professional drawing apps like procreate, clip studio paint, artstudio pro or even a free app called ibis paint. In the end it all depends on how seriously you want to draw. If you want to pursue art as a serious hobby or career and have an iPad mini 5 (if you do not know which model you have, you can look up your tablets serial number) the apple pencil and some of those apps will get you on your way! I hope that helps thank you!

      Hello and thank you for the comment. It is hard to say as rumors with a next generation iPad mini keep popping up. The latest news seems to be minor improvements. I still use my mini daily and my own philosophy with apple products is only buy when you are in need of that device/an upgrade. You always tend to roll the dice with a product at this stage in its life but like I said I use it constantly for even my more demanding 2D drawing work. If you can find a good deal on one now and you need it, then it is worth it in my eyes! A new model will always be expensive to start off so getting last years high end model for less can be a good alternative. I hope that helps if you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

      Hello and thank you for the comment! I cannot recommend the mini as a first time drawing tablet. I think the middle sized iPad is a good place to start, it isn't much larger and offers a lot more room to learn and experiment. There are now affordable models that use the apple pencil and are a great value for money since they can still be used to watch videos and what not. If you have access to a computer there are plenty of drawing tablets you plug in over USB that are a good place to start like wacoms bamboo series. But for sure, I love the way you present this thought.
      I’m in intersection of confusion about surface pro 6 and this ipad mini + low end laptop just for slicing 30000px canvas for webcomic purpose.
      I have good impression with last iPad 6th gen, but recently sold to dig more about apple ecosystem (yes iPad my first apple device then sold it to buy some iPhone lol).
      I always lookin for review to find the perfection on the device, without knowing, maybe the way i seek a perfection on human creature was a wrong path. And this video show me, maybe whatever i use, it just about comfort and trust. So I will keep this as my wishlist ✨
      Btw can u help me sir? I kinda curious about how much layer that I get if I using procreate in 800x30000px canvas both in 300dpi and 600dpi. Your answer will be gem of my sight.

      Yoga Pratama I’m so glad I could help! I’ll have many more videos like this soon~ as far as just cutting a document either a modern iPad or surface 6 with decent specs should work. I will say that the iPad is very smooth but less precise because you don’t have the option of a mouse.
      I just checked and it is not possible to make a 80px30000 sized file on procreate the limit is about half that size. I would recommend Artstudio pro which is a one time payment drawing app, or my favorite clip studio paint but it’s a subscription.
      They both seem to be able to handle 800x30000 at 300 dpi I don’t know how smooth it will be once you have a comic on here but the apps will allow you to make a large canvas like that!

      Hello and thank you for the question. As someone who is currently trying to draw a comic, the mini 5 can be really challenging depending on the look you are going for and your workflow. The small screen makes it difficult to add lots of details and it is quite cramped for comics. If you do something with less detail it might be ok but even just trying to lay out text and images in the planning stages can become frustrating. I recommend saving for the pro or even looking at apples own refurbished models. Also a new ipad pro may be coming out soon so I would look into rumors as well. The mini is an amazing device and is quite powerful so if you are often on the go and want to practice on the train the mini might be the better choice. Either way if you could save up a little, I highly recommend getting a model with more than 32gigs of storage. Between the operating system, a few apps and drawings itll be full right away....

      Hello and thank you for the message. What kind of budget do you have? I usually recommend people buy a mid sized iPad because the size allows for easier multitasking and room to practice drawing especially for beginners. The size and weight isn't much more than the mini 5 and if you have a bag with you the difference isn't really noticable. The minis advantage is really that you don't need a bag if you say live close to a cafe and want to walk there with no bag it's a good option. I would recommend looking at apples refurbished selection of iPads or the used market. I have a 9.7 inch iPad pro from a few years ago which still works great and I use it for many drawings featured on this channel. I hope that helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask anytime!

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  4 года назад

      As far as drawing close by and the mini, it is convenient to take the mini because it is so small but holding my 9.7inch pro to walk somewhere isn’t necessarily a bother. If you take a bag then the extra screen would be more comfortable for drawing. Especially since you are new to drawing on iPads I would worry the small screen isn’t as friendly as the larger ones. Also the 64gig mini isn’t the best choice as the operating system and a few apps can take up a large amount of that leading to deleting drawings more frequently. If you absolutely must have a drawing tablet with you everywhere(I am one of those people) then the mini 5 is a great option but if not the difference isn’t drastic with a larger size. Also there have been rumors of a mini 6 coming out which would also reduce the price of the current mini. But with sales and what not prices can vary. I guess in the end the difference isn’t so significant with the size and you should get what fits your budget because in practice they aren’t too different, I would still recommend a larger screen it’s just more comfortable to learn and grow!

    I plan to buy an ipad or tablet that is portable. I'm not the type to carry big/heavy or a lot of things because I just don't like it. I tend to get careless and forgetfull too. I'm not using it for a big project or anything. I just need something that I can used for only that specific purpose. I don't like doing everything with my phone. (That's why I bought a new 3ds xl so that I don't have to play games on my phone.) I've seen some videos about tablets and ipads that I start to kinda lose the whole purpose of buying it because of the flashy specs (which isn't bad). Ofcourse, some of those ipads and tablets are still like you can carry around but.....I still want it smaller but bigger (wider) than a phone. Ipad mini might be the one for me.

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  2 года назад

      Hello and thank you for the comment! It all depends on what you want to do with your mobile device. Small tablets have tradeoffs but often it can be worth it for the ability to take them out and use them more often. The mini 5 is an excelent device that can handle a variety of work. For certain tasks a keyboard is very helpful but it reduces the portability. If you want to type more a device like the GPD P2 max is the size of the mini but runs windows and has a full keyboard. If you want a smaller device samsungs fold devices also offer a nice portable package. For drawing and sketching (without the need of a keyboard etc) the mini is a great device for me and I still use it frequently. The apple pencil doesnt attach to the mini itself so I would note it could be easy to misplace. Also there are constant rumors of a new mini successor so it might be best to do your research into them! I hope that helps thank you!

      The pencil is not an everyday charge by any means. I maybe leave it charge for at least an hour once a week and that seems to be good enough. Occasionally i find myself in a situation where the battery on the pencil is almost out but a few minutes of charging lets you draw for maybe 1-2 hours so its not so bad!
