The shudder is caused by the transmission oil 'cavitating' through the torque converter. That is, the oil is aerating. Its always fixed by replacing the old oil with fresh oil. However it will always come back as the oil aerates. Honda were aware of this problem back in 2013 and there was a recall with torque converters and sometimes gearboxes being replaced.

My suggestion is to also reset the transmission by placing the car is aux mode. Press the start button twice without starting it. Hold the throttle to the floir for a full 30 sec. You will hear a faint beep when you release the throttle letting you know its done. The difference in the cars driving characteristics is enormous. Modern cars have a "smart" transmission that learns the drivers acceleration habits. So if you purchased a used vehicle this is necessary. FIX.....I changed the fluid with Honda fluid (never used any other). Drove the car for 10 miles. Changed the fluid again and changed the in-line filter (25430-PLR-003, parts at dealer didn’t know about this filter, I gave him the part #, and he had it in stock). Your vehicle may need a different part #, check on line and your dealer). Shuddering stopped. Have 120,000 miles and no shuddering. Jim PS.....this little can filter is on one of the trans cooling lines going to the radiator. It is in front of my engine in the middle. Changing trans oil on a Honda is easier than changing motor oil. Check out many RUclips videos. I’m a big guy and I can do it without jacking the car up, no ramps needed. It costs me about $20 to change trans oil, this filter was $20.
Just got that same trans filter, and am going to replace this weekend. 2007 CRV, w/136k miles and pretty sure the filter has never been changed, just the trans fluid.

OK , I fixed mine by dumping the ATF and replacing with genuine Honda ATF, it took 4 quarts, I did this twice and mine seems fine now, I have done a 1000km's with it. Its the Torque converter which doesn't lock up properly when it shifts at under 2000RPM. The old dirty fluid causes this. Mine had 160 000Km's and I don't think it was ever changed. I will do another 4 quarts when I change my oil in 5000km's. Eventually doing this every 10 000k's it should be mostly clean.
Hi MrSweetaz, that is very good news. I also suspected the lock mechanism in the torque converter. I have now done 4000km with no shudder. Let us know if all is well with your transmission in the coming year or so. i would always recommend doing what you have done in stead of using an additive. But i had read about another Honda owner where flushing the transmission did not solve the problem. If I get shudder again some time in the future i will also flush with new ATF. And yes changing the ATF regularly is a must. Thank you for your comment.
This is exactly what it is. Honda’s need the trans fluid changed religiously. 25-35,000 drain and fill 3x. Dirty fluid is the main culprit. Honda is recommending a trans update but I’d only do that after the drain and fills didn’t solve the issue. If the update doesn’t help then you’ll need a new torque converter

Currently my 2012 Honda CR-V shudders at acceleration 20-30 mph. If I let off gas for a blip it stops. Hills are worse. It used to vibrate at idle years ago. I would not attempt a trip to the mountains. Things I've read .... Powertrain Control Module update or reprogram ECM, transmission fluid change, or maybe new Torque converter.
Hi Around Denver It sounds very much like what i had. For me this ShudderFix really works, i am still not having any shudder or any other side effects as far as i can see.
Our 2013 CRV started the judder between 20 to 30mph at 60,000 miles. Two TSB on this problem; 15-086 and 17-040. The first time, dealer did as instructed on TSB 15-086; updated software and put in new AT fluid. Started doing it again around 68000 miles. The follow up TSB 17-040 says torque converter may need to be replaced. They paid for the first time but refuse to help in the $2300 cost for a new torque converter. They drained the AT and recommended adding "Dr. Judder"...which I did. No one will tell me what's the problem. A bad torque converter? They can't guarantee that I won't experience the same with new one. I've owned cars for 60 years, new, used, clunkers but have never experienced this. Our 2000 V6 Accord had over 200,000 miles on it...no transmission issues...I think Honda has abandoned their loyal customers...I won't own another one.
I'm driving a Honda CRV-2013 and experiencing shuddering at speeds ranging from 25 to 30 mph. Is it possible that using this shudder fixx will have a negative impact on transmission? According to what I've read, Honda does not recommend adding any additives to transmission fluid. please suggest...
Thanks for the video, any updates after 3 years? Im experiencing the same problem with 2007 CRV. Im debating between replacing the torque converter or just the fluid. Thanks

Hi Rud It is difficult to find the correct answer for this. I have found this one: Transmission fluid additives are designed to restore the fluid's properties responsible for providing the correct frictional properties, heat resistance and other benefits. Some include additives designed to soften and swell worn seals, purportedly “fixing” leaks. If anyone know a more precise answer, please feel free to comment.
Drain and fill your trans fluid 3 times before turning to a quick fix which is temporary. If the drain and fills don’t fix it then try the shudder fix but youlll have to add it on a regular basis if it even fixed the issue

Okay, i have an update for you guys.
I have now been driving 25.000 km since i added the Shudder Fix fluid.
Finally it happened again. I have been prepared for some time as it came sneeking again :-) . i have bought enough transmission fluid to make a "semi"flush.
I emptied the transmission for the old fluid, and no it was not very red, i should probably have done this sooner.
However i filled it up again.
Started the engine, just briefly shifted through the gears and stopped the engine again.
Then i emptied the transmission again and filled it up again.
That was it.
The shudder has been gone since. :-)
I will let you know if it occurs again
Thanks for the update!
It worked ! I found your video and bought the snake oil. Had it in for two months now and no more shudder. 2012 CRV 120K. The question is, why does it work? Is it a thickener or what??? Thank you so much for your efforts in making this.
Hello, how much did you add to tranny? I have the same issue in 2014 crv awd
Hi Around Denver
It sounds very much like what i had.
I had my transmission fluid changed three times in a row the same day, and it stopped the shuddering. My CR-V is a 2013 model.
I have the same problem and Im just going to get sold it back to honda..and let them deal with this problem!
When you made this video, Honda would have covered a new torque converter. was a tsb for it
I'm driving a Honda CRV-2013 and experiencing shuddering at speeds ranging from 25 to 30 mph.
Thanks
Hi Omar, i have been travelling for some time, and has "parked" my car until i get back. After the "semi" flush, i mentioned some time ago, I have not had any problems either, and I drove around with that for 6 month before i "parked" the car.
Hope you can find this helpful.
Hi again. I have not been driving much the last half year, thus i have only driven 10.000 km. so fare it is still running without any shudder. in one month time i will be driving much more again and i will get back to you again with a status.
Yes please keep us updated on longevity !
I have the shuddering problem and was looking for the Shudder fix but it says on the Lube guard site - For use in ANY automatic transmission fluid except CVT.
This works.
I have the same issue at 40 km/h, i'm going to try this, wish me luck (also a crv 2012)
Hi Xavier, i wish you hereby good luck 😃 and mine is still working, i have not changed trans oil yet
@@stefanshondacrv116 mine worked only have 5 miles on it, i thought i was going to need a transmission which is worth more than i could sell it for
Did it work? If so for how long?
Experiencing it now with our 2008
how does the additive shudder fix work? what does it actually do to the fluid?
Hi Rud
It is difficult to find the correct answer for this. I have found this one:
Transmission fluid additives are designed to restore the fluid's properties responsible for providing the correct frictional properties, heat resistance and other benefits.
@@ohboy2592 Hi oh boy, for sure i will do that too, if it starts again. so far i have driven 10.000km without shudder
Hi, I have the same problem.. Driving at higher speeds, i don't have the problem, but when i'm on lower speeds a vibrations happens. Can i try this on my 2005 Honda CR-V RD7
Hi Dilshan, i had the same Honda before this. To my knowledge the gearbox is in principle the same. I am not a professional, so no guarantee 😄 but if it was me, i would try it. If it does not help, then do the semi flush.
I hope this helps👍
@@stefanshondacrv116 Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try this. will see how it goes
@@Dilshan128 hey man I have a 2013 crv did it help?
going to try this today
Now i am curious, did it work?
Do you recommend 2 ? Or just 1 ? Unfortunately I have no tools and I’m located in Germany and I will have a mechanic add it for me when I do a trans oil change so I got one chance what are your thoughts
Hi Anthony, it depends. Do you already feel the shudder often, and you are planning to do a trans oil change, then i would recommend 2 times as the “semi flush” i did. I mean put new oil on 2 times👍
Hello Stefan! Where did you buy this shudder ? I live in sweden and i have exacly the same problem as you had. Unfortunetly i cant buy in Sweden and cant even buy from amazon because they dont ship it here. Greetings Greg
Hi Greg, i bought mine on Ebay. Make sure it is genue. I am sure there are other stores as well, you just have to pay a small toll for importing in most cases, but it is relatively cheap.
I hope it helps on the shudder on your car.
Stefan
Hi Stefan, how is the fix, still working ok? How many km have you had after the fix and have you changed the trans oil after?
Hi Jim, no i have not changed the trans oil since and i have driven 10.000 km. Yes it is still working and i am very happy for that.
What year is your CRV, and is it a Canadian model? At what mileage di this start? Did you buy it new? Thanks….Jim
Does thos work on cvt engines?
Hi, sorry, but i do not know if it will work.
Does it happen when accelerating from 10 kmh to 50 kmh?
Hi mayuranm5, yes, it started for me at those speeds, but if you let it be it will spread up to 80 kmh as well, that's where i did my shudder fix
What year CRV is it? Nice to see European roads ....i miss driving in Europe....😆. 🇨🇦 here
Hi Leatherkid01. The CRV is from 2007.
Yeah if you are not from Europe, it must have been some time now with all this Covid19 non travel situation.
@@stefanshondacrv116 oh ok didnt know they had shudder issues …. Good to lnow . Not a Homda fan but i do have people who have them 👍🏼
what year honda CrV did you use the shudder fix on ?
Hi Flash, my CrV is a 2007
@@stefanshondacrv116 thank you
Hi, What model CR-V do you have? I have a 2005 that does something similar
MrSweetaz , Hi, i have a late 2006 or early 2007 model, not really sure, have seen conflicting facts 😁, a CRV III (RE) (06.2006-...) 2.0 executive aut.
nice to know
Hey, I have the same problem, how do I fix it?
I experienced this exact issue last night. 2010 crv but only when my rpms are low. Problem is. Girlfriend also bought this vehicle yesterday. Anyone know the actual cause?
Same. Have you figured it out!
@@Ro0m309 not confirmed but I believe it's a torque converter issue. It's locking up but not unlocking allowing the gear change
I have honda crv 2014
I went to the michanic to see atf
It was 1 liter low
He put 1 liter
Then the car began shuddering at 3 gear
Then i asked him what atf he put
He said i put white atf
I asked another michanic he said you should put red atf
I then take off atf from the car and put 2.7 red atf
And the shudder vanished
I advice you to replace atf
I have a 2013 crv and we just bought it. It shudders whenever we run between 20-40 mph. My husband want to fix it and we have no idea what to do.
@@dylenthao2532 replace the transmission fluid at least once. That should flush out the system and silver the problem. It did for me.
@@dylenthao2532 Hi did you ever get this issue fixed ? Mines does this only while rhe car is cold...
@@dylenthao2532 Hi, yeah you can try the Shudder Fix i used or you should try to flush the transmission. I hope it will help you.
@@misaelroman1215 Hi Misael, in the beginning mine was mostly when car was cold also.
Didn't work for me
Honda should be sued for the supposed VCT Actuator rattle and this debacle.
yep. ours has both.
Mine happeneds from 50 all the way to 80 u have to left off or push throw 😂
Hi, sorry for the late answer. Mine was slowly doing it over a bigger and bigger range of speed, but always at low rpm, and when the torque is at the high end, just before it wants to change gear. i hope you can solve the problem with this
Nice
did anyone see the aggressive throttle used and the cruise speed way above the 41-44 mph needed to reproduce the shudder? c'mon now.
I understand your confusion, the reason was that another car was approaching from behind.
