"thats enough" yes, cuz destroying a painting, a guys news paper, an glass case with a suit of armer in it and properly a lot of other stuff is okay but swimming in the fountain is where the line is drawn.
Agreed. Although, as somebody who fenced more than a few times, the minute I see my opponent grab real swords to up the wager, is the moment I just leave.
Kind of like in the unofficial film Never Say Never Again where Bond gets in a fight and trashes the health clinic. Only instead of the fight ending with them shaking hands, Bond throws his urine sample in his opponent's eyes.
I always thought this scene was one of the best choreographed and exhilarating fight scenes in the series (even all the hand to hand and gun fight scenes). Just the chemistry and animosity between good and evil - well cast and well played.
Blade Wolf This wasn't traditional sword fight, but it was brutal and intense. The two characters fight, hit each other. They smash things up. Get tired and bloody. It's how a sword fight between the hero and the villain in a movie should be.

Blade Wolf Oh please come on, I do fencing and this was a nice fight, compare it to other movies where they just hit the other person's blade and begin swinging the blade around like it's Christmas. This was nice.
I love how they go from fencing epees to sabres to a katana for about 5 seconds and then to heavy broad swords. One of the best fights I've ever seen on the screen. I also really love the sound the broad swords make when they clash.
I love the ending the most. They go from fighting to kill each other to almost amicable appearances in a heartbeat. Heck, even looked affronted that Miranda would interrupt their fight.
A few people I've talked to about this scene tend to think that Graves becoming all magnanimous after losing when minutes before he and Bond were fighting more or less to the death was out of character but you see that kind of change a lot in sports like fencing and boxing. When you're in the ring in boxing you get a shot of adrenaline and you want to kill your opponent. Then once you calm down and you're out of the ring, you're mates again.
RedLetterMedia brought me here, as this was the example of what the Anakin Skywalker/Obi Wan Kenobi fight should have been. This was a fight with consequences, where the actors displayed physical exhaustion. As others have commented, this fight was the highlight of the film. The premise of the film was ridiculous.
RedLetterMedia doesn't know which way is up. The Star Wars prequels were fantastic movies and introduced numerous people to the saga for the first time. If it weren't for them, Star Wars would be dead
riderfan215 Really? Star Wars would be dead without the prequels? So the novelizations, comic books, video games, toys, et cetera, I guess that stuff never existed? There was plenty to fill the void between films, it's not like the absence of the three prequels would mean the end of Star Wars, it had an enduring legacy unlike an other intellectual property. RedLetterMedia doesn't know which way is up? How so? They break down each film like the film experts that they are, down to nearly every inconsistency, plot hole, and cringe-inducing scene. They prove, with evidence, that they are bad films. They don't just pick on the Star Wars franchise either, their first major reviews were of the Next Generation films. I don't agree with RedLetterMedia on everything. For instance, they don't think the universe of the Alien film franchise is worth exploring anymore, and often explain sequels as soulless cash grabs. I don't agree with either position, but one has to give credit where credit is due, and the fact is that the people behind RedLetterMedia are highly articulate film critics. I am not saying you can't like the prequels, but liking them doesn't eliminate their problems. I like plenty of bad movies. 13th Warrior was sub-par on nearly every level, but I love that movie.
The only people that think the prequels are bad are people who are so absorbed in the original trilogy that they can't accept something DIFFERENT from those movies. If the prequels were more like the originals, it'd be boring as crap and half as interesting. Star Wars would be dead without the Prequels because you would eventually run out of stories to tell post-ROTJ and we know Lucas wouldn't let someone other than himself tell the fall of Darth Vader. In the end, Star Wars was LUCAS's story and therefore it is only right that HIS VISION got told. They're fantastic both visually and in storytelling and they're what got me into Star Wars in the first place. Without them I wouldn't care nearly as much.
riderfan215 Like I wrote above, you can like any movie for whatever reason you like, but that doesn't change the quality of it. You are of course more than welcome to make your own set of videos articulating why the prequels are better than the originals, but until you do, RedLetterMedia is going to be the authority on the subject.
you can do historical fencing with swords it is a bit like the second fight or part of fencing. But modern foil fencing is faster and more challenging, concerning the physics, the psychology and the brain. Of course, even the first fight is staged and quite a mixture between foil and epee fencing (and something bond-commands of the referee) concerning equipment, speed and style. Many were called, but only few were chosen. It is a long road to become a good fencer. Besides the location, here shown, is holy ground for every sport fencer or our Vatican, if you like to call it so, it is the Belgiardino in Milano and for real a fencing "club". So enjoy the scenery;)
jalizea1 It is important to note that longsword fencing (at least what we see today in HEMA) is a lot different and faster than what is being presented in this scene. Even though they are notably heavier than foils, a typical longsword weighs between 1 and 1,5 kg and is balanced to allow for very dynamic bladework. A sense of timing, distance and strategy is just as important when fencing with historical weapons, as it is fencing with modern ones.
They bored me outta my mind and from man to man the guy had a face like a spade and the gadgets in those movies are gone all he did was shoot people he had no class compared to the other bonds

That's what made James Bond exciting? Those are some of the most bizarre reasons to find anything exciting.
Gustav = Colonel Moon, an archnemisis of Bond who Bond presumes is dead after he fell of a waterfall in North Korea. But he was still alive and later genetically transformed into a Englishman. Colonel Moon hates Bond with a passion and here, Bond is unaware who is really is.

Still remember seeing this opening night and the audience applauding like crazy when bond slices Grave's torso. A great scene in an otherwise mediocre movie.
As he reached for the Katana all i thought: "Don't go for this situational bad performing weapon" Then he cut through the other sword like through butter ...
I just love the fact that Gustave Graves just basically flat out tries to kill Bond within the first five seconds of switching from fencing blades and all we get is a mild mannered 'steady on' from one of the chaps at the club and no one tries to call the police, despite them potentially putting other club members in danger, nor does anyone try to restrain Bond or Graves when it is obviously more than just 'Sport'. Oh well...kickass scene and it is Bond, so best not to analyse.
*pulls two sharp swords off the wall* Miranda says to herself: "that's not enough". *Fight quickly escalates to beyond the fencing hall, destroying furniture and endangering lives. Bond slices graves across the chest* Miranda: "now that's enough"!!!!
1:42 what are those facial expressions from Brosnan. It's got me laughing so hard. it's like confused, exasperated while sword fighting. Still my favorite Bond, and Timothy Dalton.
Thank you sir, I really needed to point that out. People might still believe they were competing for cash, but I think the other guy really needed the money.
006 vs 007 and 007 vs Grant are great ones, also the gyspy cat fight in From Russia With Love. The most brutal fight scene I can remember though is 007 vs Peter Franks in Diamonds Are Forever, which is also interesting because although he is a criminal he isn't one of the bad guys (until Bond has to take him out because Bond is impersonating him haha)

+Tibo Smolders Are you sure those are cavalry sabers? They look straight and double-edged to me. A little wider than rapiers, though. Maybe they're just basket-hilted broadswords...
First blood drawn from the torso.
Tries to cut bonds head off
It's easy to draw blood from the torso of a dead man.
That's Saber for you. Chop first. Think about valid targets second.
😂

Zubair Rehman damn best comment ever bahahahahhaaa!!!
Zubair Rehman I think the almost rip to the torso might have been the reason Miranda stopped the fight- no Graves, no job
+billyBk91 yep best comment!
+Zubair Rehman I really don't think that was the reason for the intervention. Maybe the fact that Bond almost killed her protegee at that very moment.
+DaShonuff o sure, if you wanna be all mature and logical about it lol

Such a good fighting scene! Really well done, I love all the little details too, like how they sliced that guys newspaper in half.
1:46 just realize they sped up this part
That sound when two broadswords collide is just... mm. So satisfying.
By far the best part of the movie

Brosnans best performance as Bond and in the world is not enough. totally bond. tough and aggressive.

Friendship is overrated... lol
If Olympic fencing was like this... It would be the most viewed sport by far!
This was Probably the Most exciting scene in ''Die another Day'' that i Love the most.

Apart from the katana cutting throw another sword.
