John is the best, obviously. He creates the songs, btw. But Josh sings so well either. Under The Bridge with him is spetacular. Just appreciate, guys. Just appreciate.
give "omission" from john frusciante's shadows collide with people a listen and you'll hear what josh mixed with john sounds like...SPOILER ALERT: awesome.
To the people who say Josh is awful, just stop. He is a really good singer and a good guitarist. You can't compare him with John, John's older and more experienced, plus he wrote most of RHCP's songs while he was with them, but still Josh did a pretty good job singing them. Also, because of John, Josh is into a lot of pressure. Just calm the fuck down and leave the guy in peace for a while, he knows what he's doing.
The difference is when John replaced Hillel, within one album (Mother's Milk), frusciante proved himself to be amazing and the fans started to love him. It's been an album and almost a second and people still are divided. Josh is a great musician without a doubt but I don't care what anyone says, John frusciante is a legend. Period.
Alex Pappas Did I say anything about Frusciante being bad? Frusciante is my favourite guitarist, he's absolutely magnificent, an amazing guitar player and composer and I love him!
There's no comparison between these two, they're both amazing. They have two totally different styles in guitar playing and singing (and clearly have a different approach to song writing), so I don't think I can really pick one over the other. I prefer John, as I've been used to hearing him for many years and he has influenced me a lot as a musician but I'm not going to push Josh to one side and say that John will always be better. They're two completely different musicians.
God I love this video. Not because it puts them against each other, but it shows how fucking amazing both their voices are. John’s voice is so powerful and angelic at the same time, and josh’s is similar, but in its own way
The way I see it, John has the ,,rockman" voice and Josh...he is just an alternative music singer with his unusual voice. So it's pretty hard to compare their sound.
Lucia nne yh, both hav the voices of different genres, ik johns is always full of soul and perfect, I like joshes probably just as much, it's just they're soo different it's impossible and pointless to decide
I think John's voice better compliments Anthony's for background vocals, but I think overall Josh has a better voice. I guess it all comes down to personal preference
i think john is better singer...you're right though it's subjective. john does have the larger range though...so that's something non subjective. i like that john sings much more from chest voice than josh...josh is almost all head voice with occasional falsettos and chest. very thing compared to frusciante. for me there is no competition, but like you said it's 80% subjective.
Johns vocals on Otherside at Slane Castle never fail to give me goosebumps. I'm actually pretty impressed with Josh, there's no denying he's an incredible guitarist. As much as I hate to say it, the reason the bands live shows these days aren't as great is more due to Anthony than Josh.
Anthony and Josh has a "boyish" voice. While John has an angelic-mature-Godlike voice. Which is great filling for Anthony vocal. But, both of them are great :)
Josh seems to be making a huge effort on training his vocals. And i respect that. He is on the right path, where u give everything you got for love to make music.
It was a legitimate competition until Otherside at Slane happened. John's solo stuff is better than most chili peppers stuff anyway, and John is an absolute fucking legend always, but on that particular night, he was a GOD.

my opinion: in Frusciante's time with rhcp, his voice was matching just perfectly, but by the ages anthony gets old too, so his voice is little different, and Josh is now perfect replacement cuz he is still kinda young with powerfull voice to cover anthony
I just get chills with John's voice...(especially Otherside, one of the most amazing things I've ever heard). Josh is still incredible but I think John wins.

I think the solo covers showed that John is more seasoned than Josh vocally, with better ability to keep the pitch where he wants, and such. However, in the backing vocals specifically, Josh has a much more distinguishable voice that adds more to the song than John did. All of it is opinion, anyway.
While I can't say I like Josh as much as John, Josh is still very very good. TO those of you saying John can't sing worth a shit, have you heard the album By the Way? Seriously? Songs like Dosed and Tear wouldn't have even come into place without John's glorious backing vocals.
It's not that Josh isn't good, it's that John is SO perfect that it's unfair to compare them. It's completely unfair because I'm sure any band in the world would give anything to have a guitar player like Josh, and one should recognise the greatness in him. The thing with Frusciante is that he's a prodigy, he's the kind of guitarist that comes once, maybe twice in a generation, and on top of that he's just as talented singing too. It would be like comparing, I don't know, Neymar or Dybala with Pelé or Maradona.
niggas act like John is a saint guitar player. Dude, have you heard the licks that Fall of Troy make? That guitar player is a dude that does lead screemo, guitar shredding, melody breaking, kidney bursting and brain melting musical medicine. What is so good about Josh guitar playing? It's like... up to par with todays talent. Look at Fall of Troy, Incubus, Satriani... Just cause RHCP is your fav band does not mean that in fact they have a prodigy guitar player. I personally know someone who is better than him. Now if you talk about Flea being a prodigy... yes that is correct.
i want to say something about josh before getting to the point.josh is great and he is the best man for the job after the exit of john from the peppers, though, if u want to compare their backing vocals, dont, just dont put the slane castle in the game, NOTHING compares to john's vocals that night, NOTHING. peace, love and peppers!
johns voice is much more soothing than joshs voice. I like joshes voice in iwu, but his sounds a little more artificial in my opinion. Im not saying he fakes it, but i feel like his singing can be used for another genre. thats why iwu sounded a little different due to his singing and how they needed to build off of that.
John has more emotion in his backing vocals. He's got this powerful voice, I can't explain it...but whatever it is, it's something Josh doesn't quite have.
Of course he does. John was there to write those songs. He was there to put that emotion into it, and on stage, he knew the emotions that were put into it. He could feel what he was feeling at the time of the songs' creations, even years later. Josh wasn't there for any of that. Whether he can understand it or not, he can't _feel_ it, because he didn't experience it.
John Frusciante is better than Josh Klinghoffer on all aspects: guitar playing, singing, composing! End of story😛 Sorry, but there’s no comparison! Josh has a lot to learn; he’s still young so he can get to John’s level eventually.
I love how for John's you only use Slane Castle... not much can compare to that night! Listen to Dot Hacker if you want to hear how good Josh is, because he's incredible vocally, also with Guitar, Drums and Keys!
From both of their singing and guitar playing, I see John as more of a clean and sophisticated musician, where as Josh is more of a teenager, having fun playing on stage
All of the songs compared are vocalized by john on the records. so i think we're more inclined to pick john cause its sounds exactly like the record. while in josh's case, its good but doesn't sound quite right. Nonetheless josh's voice is beautiful.
Downtown and also - the sound that John produces with his guitar is way better than Josh's one. I was in a performance of RHCP with Josh, and he used such a bad tone that it sounded as though his guitar was choking. John got a cool guitar tone - the one he used with his Telecaster in Slane Castle 2003 was so funky and good!
to be honest theyre both good yes its sad that john left but at least they didnt break up flea said that if john left he would leave but he didnt due to the love for the band and their art that the have created the good part is that they didnt split and red hot chili peppers are still together and making amazing music :D
La voz de Josh en "Right on time" pero el Meadows Festival 2017 estuvo espectacularmente hermosa ❤❤ Su voz estuvo genial, hasta podría decir que en todo el concierto
Really hard to pick one, because both are great musicians. Josh has a really nice voice and really lovely backing vocals man but... John Frusciante it's from another planet. Check "By the way" live at chorzow and listen to the chorus, you'll agree with me.
Josh has got a very beautiful studio voice but quite often to me, his live vocals are weak and not well controlled. John has a very powerful voice and his backing vocals are, without question, some of the best in the business. His vocal range is also much better than Josh's too. BUT John and Josh's voices harmonise together so well, better than either of them with Keidis IMO.
i agree. but i will say john in keidis is like a match made in heaven. really the awesome part about that duo is really that together they create a super voice. they really become one. but like you said john and josh do harmonize amazingly. the song Omission off of Johns shadows collide with people is one of the first songs i show people we they want to hear johns solo stuff
Josh has the more natural singing voice while John's is more forced, also, Josh's voice compliments Anthony's much better than John's in general... On the other hand, John is able to do both lead and backing vocals and still sound great doing both, while Josh is more of your typical backing vocalist... That's not to say Josh can't do lead vocals, but his unique vocal style is better suited for backing vocals. Either way, both are great musicians in general, neither is better than the other...
How can you say that someone with a more unique voice is more suited to backing vocals? The more generic you sound the more suited to backing vocals you are. That being said this new dude sound way less unique to me than john. Also his style is an almost carbon copy of john circa BSSM
From a technique point of view, John wins it easily. His control, especially while singing falsetto, is very good. He is also great at jumping between head and chest voice. He also has a greater vocal range: compare his solo songs, 'One more of me' and 'Walls' for example. Listening to Otherside and By the Way, John's chest highs are far more powerful and clear. I see the appeal of Josh's voice, and I've known of him way before he joined the peps. He sounds great on 'Omission'. But technically, he isn't a great singer at all.
It’s so unfortunate for Josh to have to be compared with John. Josh is great and all. But John is debatably the greatest guitarist of the late 20th and early 21st century. Plus his backing backing vocals are A1. Hard to compete with a living legend.
John is the best, obviously. He creates the songs, btw. But Josh sings so well either. Under The Bridge with him is spetacular. Just appreciate, guys. Just appreciate.

John Frusciante is better than Josh Klinghoffer on all aspects: guitar playing, singing, composing! End of story😛 Sorry, but there’s no comparison! Josh has a lot to learn; he’s still young so he can get to John’s level eventually.
thank you! it's a beautiful song!
I love how for John's you only use Slane Castle... not much can compare to that night! Listen to Dot Hacker if you want to hear how good Josh is, because he's incredible vocally, also with Guitar, Drums and Keys!
From both of their singing and guitar playing, I see John as more of a clean and sophisticated musician, where as Josh is more of a teenager, having fun playing on stage
never compare to anybody against john.
Josh Klinghoffer & John Frusciante For the RHCP only had to win with you 2 incrives guitarists on stage
No words to describe the 2
The best !!!!!
Backing vocal do John é o melhor
Im sorry, I know how otherside at slane castle sounds but 2:15 gives me bigger chills..
josh will always be john's shadow. John frusciante= guitar god
josh is an amazong guitarist. writer and singer but john is a god, hes a plain out god in everything
All of the songs compared are vocalized by john on the records. so i think we're more inclined to pick john cause its sounds exactly like the record. while in josh's case, its good but doesn't sound quite right. Nonetheless josh's voice is beautiful.
John is better. Nothing to do about it. He just has such a great voice, and the combination between John's voice and Anthony's voice was just divine.
Yeah... Right now RHCP are just three old guys out of tune and a 40 years old guitarist who isn't familiar with true music.
yeah :(
Ariking777 They no longer have 30 years, no longer be the same. Stop bitching and enjoy :)
Emmanuel Medina I'm certainly not bitching. Anyways, what I'm saying is that I DO enjoy RHCP now, but much less without John. But that's life.
Josh!! ♥♥♥
what's the name of the song Josh sings at 7:14?
Josh, great guy nice artist, John, genious!
WHEN WAS THE 'OTHERSIDE' WITH JOHN RECORDED?! IT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE
they're both are great singers and guitarists but john, john is just GOD
I Love Josh Klinghoffer❤
John's voice is very different to Anthony's, so his backing vocals fill in Anthony's. I don't really know how to explain it.
to be honest theyre both good yes its sad that john left but at least they didnt break up flea said that if john left he would leave but he didnt due to the love for the band and their art that the have created the good part is that they didnt split and red hot chili peppers are still together and making amazing music :D
John always will be THE GUITARIST in the chilis
Really hard to pick one, because both are great musicians. Josh has a really nice voice and really lovely backing vocals man but... John Frusciante it's from another planet. Check "By the way" live at chorzow and listen to the chorus, you'll agree with me.
John toda la vida :')
both of them is good musician... i miss john
Josh has got a very beautiful studio voice but quite often to me, his live vocals are weak and not well controlled. John has a very powerful voice and his backing vocals are, without question, some of the best in the business. His vocal range is also much better than Josh's too. BUT John and Josh's voices harmonise together so well, better than either of them with Keidis IMO.
i agree. but i will say john in keidis is like a match made in heaven. really the awesome part about that duo is really that together they create a super voice. they really become one. but like you said john and josh do harmonize amazingly. the song Omission off of Johns shadows collide with people is one of the first songs i show people we they want to hear johns solo stuff
okyoulot hear their newest album's lives. josh sounds amazing
LMAO . u crazy. its like john is jesus . and josh is the alter boy serving john at church.
How can you say that someone with a more unique voice is more suited to backing vocals? The more generic you sound the more suited to backing vocals you are. That being said this new dude sound way less unique to me than john. Also his style is an almost carbon copy of john circa BSSM
name of the song at 7:10 ?
Don't dream its over
From a technique point of view, John wins it easily.
If you want some really good recorded vocals by josh look up omission by john frusciante. Josh sings backup in that song and its really good.
Otherside with john and by the way with josh are my favourite
BTW, I fucking love Josh, but I have to admit that John give me chills everytime..
It’s so unfortunate for Josh to have to be compared with John. Josh is great and all. But John is debatably the greatest guitarist of the late 20th and early 21st century. Plus his backing backing vocals are A1. Hard to compete with a living legend.
