John's ones are absolutely better but Josh does a killer job every time. Can't ask much from him. He's pretty good himself. Man we are so blessed. I want to thank Josh for keeping the peppers alive for 10 years. We are all so indebted to you. We love you and hope we get to see you play in live shows together with John. That will be legendary. Hope that day comes some day!
I agree but others prefer Josh. Pretty interesting. I think it boils down to when you get exposed to rhcp. I think some fans who became chili fans during Josh’s era prefer him. And obviously most of us agree John blows Josh out of the water, but we also grew up with John. It’s subjective and doesn’t matter but it’s interesting to see others opinions.
John was in the band for more time and kind of made his style the gold standard reference. It doesn't give much space to have a different sound in the guitar solos. However Josh was did an amazing job estimulating the band to deliver a "different personality". In short, John will always be better in the guitar solos comparison, but Josh makes the band evolve and grow, leaving the comfort zone. A good example is the setlists on this 2022/2023 tour, always the same thing, while in Josh era we had Aeroplane and Dosed being played. Josh brings something new, John just does the same good thing. It's a matter of Innovation versus Good Old Habbits.
While I will always prefer Frusciante, Josh was the ABSOLUTE FUCKIN MAAAAAAN in this band! The truth is these are two of the most beautiful guitar players to ever exist on this planet. Chad, Anthony, and Flea were all lucky as fuck to play with both of them.
Josh just jumps around the stage a lot more. It's impressive that he can play so well while moving like that, but it doesn't make it "better", imo. If I close my eyes and listen, John's solos win almost every time. Plus John wrote the damn song. 😜

It's unfair to compare 2007 John (being at his best) to Josh (I believe the clips are from sometime around the Getaway era). Try comparing 2023 John to Josh.
I mean, Josh is an amazing, amaaazing guitarist (and musician too) and technically maybe even better than John in some areas. But in the Chili Peppers, for me, he's just a dude playing the guitar extraordinarily well. But with John, the melodies that he creates fit so well in the current moment, he has a greater aura/presence around him while performing and he harmonizes perfectly with Chad, Flea, and Anthony and -far, far, far better than Josh ...for me.
I completely agree. Josh is probably more talented multi instrumentalist but Frusciante has the it factor. He knows what sounds best and fits in a song better than anyone I know. I feel if Chad and flea brought some pre recorded tracks to Josh and John, Frusciante would come out on top with a hit and Josh would just sound pretty good.

The getaway is a beautiful album with great guitar playing that totally differs from what frusciante plays. Now as a musician you try to honor the original musician so of course they are bound to the initial ideas. Unfortunately people are idiots and cannot respect he craft and art that Josh has. Makes me furious because Josh can compete with with frusciante on an equal level. And i'm saying this with a tattoo that refers to Frusciante on my left arm

Imo John is playing better now. Having said that it's unfair to compare John with Josh in any era. It just doesn't make sense.
True 07 was John best era as a professional musician now he looks like he's coming back he's feeling the groove it takes time to warm up.
