What's great about the episode is how the camera perspective in the Zuko/Iroh prison scenes makes it seem like Zuko is the one behind bars. The implication being that Zuko is a prisoner of his choices.
Lt ChugaCast @karl Dietrich Ain't that some shit. I never thought of that. I gotta rewatch this series now that I'm older and pay attention to the details !!
Evan Dominguez yeah I just figured that out not too long ago. I figured it out by noticed aang doesn't have a belt on like everyone else. It's crazy I never realized that before
I really love that the first few episodes of this season take us into the civilian communities of the Fire Nation... because we've only ever seen the military til now. Sokka was on edge because they were in "enemy territory", but the town they go to isn't much different than any other town. It really humanizes the Fire Nation as a kingdom of people who aren't inherently bad or destructive or war-driven. And they have this restricting culture of extreme nationalism that's force-fed to its children even at a young age, so even if they aren't aggressive people to begin with, they are taught that their nation is in the right, the war is a good thing. Like, yeah, this episode is lighthearted and there's a Footloose-esque dance party, but if you really look at it, there's some deep stuff happening here.
Great comment, really echoes how I've always felt about this episode, underneath the Footloose surface is a really deep episode that gives us more perspective on the politics and culture of the Fire Nation, as well as the people.
The civillians dont know there is a war, they think the firenation shares their kingdom with the other nations and that everybody is happy and that the rebellion and the avatar want to stop that
liquid fiver I’m sure they’re very well aware there is a war going on. One of the teens even says his father is an admiral, and they’re taught in the schools that the war it just and that the other nations have tried to fight the Fire Nation probably due to jealousy or thought the Fire nation was evil but to them it’s because the others are probably inferior and don’t understand. Either way, they know the rest of the world doesn’t like them, but they’re taught that they’re in the right and such. The war is no secret.
Not motion capture in the traditional 3D record and apply to the 3D models instead of hand animating. They recorded the dance for animators reference because is way easier to copy every frame than have a few key frame storyboards. It was still all hand drawn 2D in Korea. They did reference recordings for the bending moves all the time.
Guys he wasn't meant to let go of Katara completely. He can still love her. He just can't choose her over the world or something like that or let her death destroy him. He can love her but he just can't let her become his whole world.
Gamelover254 “smacks forehead” Cheese and Rice! 😖 I get it now. Now it makes sense. I mean today I Think I finally understand. But it still confused the flip outta me when I watched this as a kid, so it just made it harder for me to process all these years. "As long as there is love in this world, there will also be hate." That's probably why it's so important for Aang to let go of his attachments. If he were to lose Katara, he might be consumed with hatred and lose control.
zuko and mai do love each other, but it's like they say: the couple that hates together, stays together lol. they just shit on everything and roast everyone and it's kind of cute because neither of them had really let themselves get attached to anyone or anything up to this point
Aang's headband is a part of the uniform like a belt. The thing I only realized now, is that other than wearing it on his head, he wears it upside down, which hints that he was an outsider. The fire nation uniform wears the symbol like an upright tri-force triangle while Aang wears it like an upside down tri-force.
people who say this episode is filler are children who don't understand complex thematic storytelling. This is probably in the top 5 most important episodes in all 3 season thematically. The fact that now only can the Avatar help the fire nation youth learn how to express themselves, but that the team learns that the fire nation is not a monolith.
An underrated and underappreciated episode in this series. Yes, it's Avatar Footloose, which sucks, but there's a lot of great aspects of this episode. We learn what kids are taught in schools and the propaganda the Fire Nation teaches these kids, Zuko going to talk to Iroh in prison, some nice choreography during the Aang and Katara dance, some of the funniest Sokka moments in the series (Wang Fire, "Enrolled in WHAT?!" and enemy birds), and the introduction of Sparky Sparky Boom Man.
Janvi I'm a zutara fan but I was really happy that katara ended up with aang. I just love the overall message of them being canon. I'm so sick and tired of the "nice guys finish last" trope. I'm glad the nice guy got the girl.
+Mad Dog idk for me i just never saw the development between those 2 just because Kataang has literally had a 1000 moments together throughout the show since the moment aang opened his eyes while maybe zuko and katara had like 5. buuuut I don't hate on zutara because the avatar fandom is amazing and we all respect other's opinions :)
I just noticed while watching this but I like how Toph tells Aang that he taught those kids how to be free. It makes sense that she would say something like that considering when she was growing up people smothered her and she didn't have much control over her own life because she was blind. She just wanted to be free and like those her, those kids found their freedom. The idea of freedom is very important to her so it's very in character for her to say that.
28:58 Nooooooooooo Rana!! they didn't give each other an aye! it was MAI who looked at Azula with a untrusting face! when Azula told her "TyLee needs your help with her braid" that "sounds pretty serious" reply from Mai was totally sarcastic. Like, she can't disobey the fucking princess, she has to do what she wants.
I just noticed something. In the Zuko/Iroh scenes it mostly looks like Zuko is in prison because the bars are in front of him and Iroh is not, because you mostly see him without any bars.
I think the point of "letting go of earthly attachments" is to drill it in that he can't protect everyone. Yes, he loves her, but at some point she needs to protect herself and not need him to protect her when fighting Zuko, Azula, and the Dai Li was more important for the world.
No, the movie wasn't good for what it was. The show runners have literally said that Shamalama asked them to be on set as advisors and then he ignored absolutely every suggestion they gave. Bad enough they changed every race randomly, but it's a real slap in the face when you don't even get the characters names correct... on purpose.
I'm betting the only reason he race swapped the Fire Nation to an Indian ethnicity was because he wanted to give himself a role as a Fire Nation character in one of the sequels that's never gonna happen.
@@Zombiewithabowtie and he picked an odd way to implement it, because he could've cast the water tribe as Indian and gotten less flack. But instead, he cast them as the fire nation and cast caucasians as the water tribe, both getting the look of the characters even more wrong and falling into that old "villains have dark skin, heroes have light skin" trope.

6:00 Yes, he mentioned his old Fire Nation friend "Kuzon" in seasons 1 episode 13 "The Blue Spirit" and the Fire Nation colonies are the areas of the Earth Kingdom that they have conquered during the war. They visited one in Season 1 episode 16 "The Deserter" I make videos about Avatar, if anyone is interested.
I think he also mentions him in season 1 episode 1 or 2, before he learns he had been frozen 100 years and he says "what war?" And saying he has friends in fire nation
letting go of attachments does not mean giving up on love. attachments turn love into darkness. like with anakin, he could not let go of his attachment to padme and in turn became a sith lord. the 'attachment's of love turn to jealousy and in time turn to hatred when it's corrupted. all emotions can be turned this way. that's why there is the quote of 'if you love them, let them go'.
I was watching a video of someone else reacting to avatar, and in the comment section there was a channel called "This Is Not A Kids Show" with Nahid's face as the profile pic, it was so funny. And a lot of people replied to that comment talking about you guys. You're lowkey famous lol
“Where did all these head bands coming from.” Look at early scenes in the school. The band is worn as a belt with the symbol at the front. In the school Aang is the only student without belt
"The Avatar is alive.... I want you to find him... and end him." I love it when Zuko shows the good in him but I would always get so pumped whenever he was bad. It just showed his journey wasn't over yet. And as a kid, that last scene is what got me pumped for the season.
The thing about the avatar is that yes they are reincarnated with the same spirit, but the avatar each time is still their own individual. So yes they need to be selfless and do what they must to help the world. But they are still people and are thus imperfect, quite a few of the Avatars are In fact noteably imperfect in one way or another during their lifetimes. So there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed to love someone in their life.
+BIG TAKER All of your comments have exactly 6 likes. I get the feeling you are using multiple accounts to upvote your comments and dislike The Normies videos. Also, what are you even talking about with them being "fake reactors?"
BIG TAKER What stops them from recording their reaction, even if they watch it early? Why on earth should they not record their first reaction, just to record a fake reaction later? Quit your bullshit.
Finn Wilson i honestly don't care about got. But for this show people are greedy nothing more. Yeah they have it up on patreon but those people pay there so they kinda deserve it more than we do...
I loved how this episode showed the culture of the fire nation and how the kids are just normal kids that get manipulated into thinking their Fire Lord is amazing. The non-dancing laws show how self expression have definitely been suppressed over the duration of the 100 years war. Ya know all that propaganda nonsense. It really normalizes the citizens of the fire nation. However, I was slightly frustrated with Aang and agree with Micky, there's definitely more important things to do. They're in the most dangerous place to be right now. But they're still entertaining though. It's how several episodes of first half of season 3 are with solid ones in between but once it gets half way it picks. Like REALLY it picks up haha. Some of the best episodes of the entire series!
Did Mickey just called Zuko a f*ckboy twice? Really? Right in front of my salad? I CAN'T TAKE THIS! Do you know what these words are putting me through, me personally?? Ok ok overdramatic mode off now, but you will rethink this statement bout Zuko sooner or later. He is da man.
Aqoan Yes it is a meme but it's outdated again, I am always one meme behind :( ((but I knew that it wasn't the thing anymore, i used it ironically. Nowadays, we use the meme where a guy catcalls a girl even tho he is with his girl and ugh i shouldn't explain the internet is weird))
I don't understand why so many people are butthurt about the fact they only upload avatar reactions once a week. It's their schedule, they have lives too. It's their RUclips channel and they should upload what they want and enjoy. Plus it makes you look forward to the reactions! Hate is so unnecessary.
I think the dance that they did was a Water tribe dance.. that's why Katara was able to sync with Aang.. if you look at the hand and body movements it's flexible just like water bending...
Some no-lifers actually disliked this video multiple times.... This is one of their best reviews too. They talked for like 16 minutes with cuts at the end
It’s so weird watching the intro 6 years later. Landing on Netflix finally gave it the recognition it deserved, and now we have an amazing looking new live-action about to premiere next month!
I love the detail of Aang using obviously outdated Fire Nation slang. I like to think that once the 100-Year War ended, Aang’s influence on the people as a hero and a legend re-popularized some of that old slang. I dunno, I just giggle at the idea of people in the Fire Nation greeting each other as “hotman,” or saying things like “flameo” and “stay flamin’.” Lmao
pre watching the video comment: I'm eating Post watching the video comment: The style they were doing looks like Capoiera. It's a style of martial arts that slaves developed so the masters wouldn't know they were learning to fight. It's meant to look like dancing
I love your reactions! Also, when you finish Avatar, I recommend looking up the Avatar Documentary on RUclips. It talks about the Original Concept/characters for Avatar, the making of it, and everything that went on behind the scenes at nickelodeon. But I only recommend it after you finish Book 3, because there are some spoilers.
Omg of all your reactions to atla I must say I really had fun watching this one , I was having a REALLY bad day and you guys just make me happy by watching your videos
+chiel henk I'm so very sorry to have to disappoint you mate, but the "New Avatar Series about twins" was sadly an April Fools' joke. Also... *SPOILERS FOR "THE LEGEND OF KORRA"* Remember, at the end of Book 2, the Avatar essentially ceases to exist, even though Korra can still access all 4 Elements. But the 10,000 year struggle to defeat the "Age of Darkness" and bring about a new "Age of Light" that the Avatar was created for was over at that point. So it makes perfect sense of Korra to be the last Avatar and for _The Legend of Korra_ to be the last Series in the franchise.

"The Avatar is alive.... I want you to find him... and end him."
I love it when Zuko shows the good in him but I would always get so pumped whenever he was bad. It just showed his journey wasn't over yet.
And as a kid, that last scene is what got me pumped for the season.
13:50 is probably my favorite scene in all of avatar
Ikr!
I hope Nahid gets the credit he deserves for giving Netflix the idea of making a live action ATLA
I love your enthusiasm when watching this show! New sub
According to the Extras (apud wiki), On Ji was named after Angie, a member of the staff.
why so many dislikes?
Oong The Last Airbender but they said your movie was...acceptable.
how are you here? go back to the world of shymalan (dont know how to spell his name)
Viraj Rankothge Because they are sellouts
2Real FinnaShoot well they loving so far
Introducing everyone's favorite character, Wang Fire!
I looked through the comments to try and figure out why there's so many dislikes, and I found nothing. Can somebody explain what's going on?
Normies have been exposed as being fake reactors from their snapchat (apparently they watched the GOT episode early) and people trying to make a buck.
+BIG TAKER All of your comments have exactly 6 likes. I get the feeling you are using multiple accounts to upvote your comments and dislike The Normies videos.
Also, what are you even talking about with them being "fake reactors?"
Imagine sounding like that much of a hater.... lmao are you responding to anyone who has a critique of them?
Your reaction in this episode is the best especially when katara got jealous and more😂
Did Mickey just called Zuko a f*ckboy twice? Really? Right in front of my salad? I CAN'T TAKE THIS! Do you know what these words are putting me through, me personally??
Ok ok overdramatic mode off now, but you will rethink this statement bout Zuko sooner or later. He is da man.
teawithdana k. What is this right in front of my salad thing? Is it a new meme?
Was a meme a few weeks ago, it's uncomfortable so look with caution
Aqoan Yes it is a meme but it's outdated again, I am always one meme behind :( ((but I knew that it wasn't the thing anymore, i used it ironically. Nowadays, we use the meme where a guy catcalls a girl even tho he is with his girl and ugh i shouldn't explain the internet is weird))
Just was rewatching Avatar to get ready for the live action remake. And I saw nahid predicting where the live-action show would be on.
10:21 Zuko’s giggle is actually so cute wow-
You shall not pass further down the comment section.
I just did.
I passed gas....does that count? :/
No that doesn't count.
+Mohan Grewal YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!
I ALREADY HAVE PASSED!!!!!
Totally agree. This show is straight up a masterpiece
this show is the GOAT
As the critic of nostalgia said about this chapter: "Really?.. Footloose? Kevin Bacon... FOOTLOOSE?!"
Anyone else wanna see them react to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood?
YES!!!!!!
I want them to do Death Note.
That would be fun.
Some no-lifers actually disliked this video multiple times....
This is one of their best reviews too. They talked for like 16 minutes with cuts at the end
I can't wait till you guys watch the finale
Don't ever defend M Night, Suraj. Not cool. I'll let it slide this time lmao
Fast forward to 2020: netflix is adopting it😎
That my good lords, is Sparky Sparky Boom Man.
It’s so weird watching the intro 6 years later. Landing on Netflix finally gave it the recognition it deserved, and now we have an amazing looking new live-action about to premiere next month!
3:00 Damn Nahid really called that shit
So glad i discovered this channel, the editing is fucking hilarious.
Are we not going to talk how well Sokka and Katara can pretend to be parents.
Go to your room
13:23 when you concentrate your 13 years of being alive, into a dance move for a single moment
3:00 LOL he predicted it
I love the detail of Aang using obviously outdated Fire Nation slang.
I love this episode, and I love you guys. Thanks Normies for the great reactions!
Everyone notices Aang's hair has grown but no one notices Sokka's hair has grown too, on the sides of his head.
pre watching the video comment: I'm eating
Post watching the video comment: The style they were doing looks like Capoiera. It's a style of martial arts that slaves developed so the masters wouldn't know they were learning to fight. It's meant to look like dancing
That guy who was dancing freestyle TORE IT UP!!!😂😂😰😰😄
Good reaction guys
i look forward to these every week :') i hope you're all doing well (esp you suraj, take care of ya self hon)
I really do love your edits, they add so much more to the videos and make me come back when i want a good laugh too
SPARKY SPARKY BOOM MAN
that freestyle dance was my favorite piece of art this show offered to me
There's only one more episode of Game of Thrones everybody. Calm the hell down, their schedule will lighten up soon.
I like how sokka just went along with katara kissing him
Don't mind the dislikes normies. These fools cray
Aang and Katara had sex in dance form in this episode. Shout out to Aang !
Ah, you guys have met Sparky Sparky Boom Man!!!
Once again loved it man! I want you guys to see every episode but on the other hand i dont want this to end! Keep up the good work guys!
chiel henk There's still The Legend of Korra
Tallinsmagno indeed! And i heard something about another series of avatar about twins? Very curious
+chiel henk
I'm so very sorry to have to disappoint you mate, but the "New Avatar Series about twins" was sadly an April Fools' joke.
Also... *SPOILERS FOR "THE LEGEND OF KORRA"*
Remember, at the end of Book 2, the Avatar essentially ceases to exist, even though Korra can still access all 4 Elements. But the 10,000 year struggle to defeat the "Age of Darkness" and bring about a new "Age of Light" that the Avatar was created for was over at that point. So it makes perfect sense of Korra to be the last Avatar and for _The Legend of Korra_ to be the last Series in the franchise.
chiel henk it won't end for a while at this rate
*ThE MOvIE WaS gOoD FoR WHat it WAs*
We don't use that devil speak in this fandom
The dancing between katara and aang is Bagua's set that help you maintain stay in a circular motion.
LOL "Mai" and "nurturing and motherly" shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
You guys have the best editing.
