Alexa, ever since I discovered your channel, I've been watching every single one of your videos. I love your energy when you talk and the things you share. Sincerely, thank you!! I am also from the academic side of the world :) With the exception that I have just started my PhD (physics) while also being a mom of four. But today is the first time I am writing a comment. Within the first three minutes of this video you described the situation I am in basically word for word. I wanted to build a second income stream besides my PhD stipend, which is not very high. I've been on YT since 2017 and only recently (since July 2024) started to see some progress with my channel. My husband's thinking is the same as yours. Therefore, the tension and avoiding the topic of RUclips you mentioned is very relatable. All because I am "wasting" my time making videos instead of doing something else that is more practical. Anyway, I just wanted to vent a bit :) It turns out I am not the only one in a similar situation. Thank you for openly sharing your struggles along with your successes!
Yes, exactly. I hear you. We do have a lot of similar things. Just keep going, even if you have to keep it to yourself. Do it for you or for your kids..whatever motivates you to keep going. Because it's worth it in my opinion. Thank you for taking the time to comment. xoxo

Proving people wrong is fun! As a youngster all people had to say was " You can't do that" and I would NEED to prove them wrong, now I only do what I want to do no matter if people say I can do it or not 🙂

Any thoughts about rehabilitating a channel? I have an old one with less than 100 subs. I’ve been uploading regularly for about a month now and haven’t gotten anyplace. Wondering what I’m missing, since I’m 43 and making talking head videos.
The perception of what is old changes as you age. When I was 18 I thought 40 was old now that I'm 53 being 40 is young to me now where as someone in their 60's or 70's would probably say the opposite. The bottom line for me about age is just a number. It's what you do with it. I once thought I could beat my racing partners in a triathlon who were 51 and 63. Well, as the once 32 year old myself I thought I could beat them easily. Seeing them sitting at the finish line area 15 minutes before I got there changed my perception on age. They had not only experience but years of conditioning to achieve what I couldn't.
@@Itravelbackintime Yes! But it’s 40 year olds I hear saying it. I remind myself we’re the oldest we’ve ever been, so I guess that’s the perspective. I don’t think I’m “old” at 62. 😆
