  • This is a showcase of a space shuttle, the Sliced Shuttle, made in KSP (Kerbal Space Program) in the planet pack Planet jam 3, in the Cervine system. It's very silly and goofy, and has a very unique method for carrying and delivering payloads.
    Note: this is outside of the On Cervine's Edge save, but it's low enough tech that I could in theory integrate it into OCE in a few streams.
    Music is from the Industries of Titan video game soundtrack composed by Danny Baranowsky. I do not claim this song and I do not plan to monetize off of this video

      It's a very weird concept and the way it looks is just facinating. It's like making a pencil sharpener perfectly measure the size of led still on the pencil and perfectly cut the blunt nib and forge a perfectly sharp one and perfectly glue it back. :)

    Seeing KSP clips after so long is so nostalgic, getting your first rocket off the ground felt so good, even if it was just thrusters, fuel, and a cockpit

      That's what the MechJeb Smart A.S.S. is for, since the stock SAS is insufficient for this project

    Not enough gimbal on your main engine. The KS-25 Vector engines, the ones in KSP modeled after the real STS RS-25 main engines, have 20 degrees of gimbal.
    You want the high gimbaling engines, then you can tilt them slightly on attachment so the Center-of-Thrust marker intersects the Center-of-Gravity marker. Use throttle and gimbaling to maintain stability. This is how the real Space Shuttle does it.

      Thanks for the advice! This was designed to be a relatively low tech build though and vectors are pretty high up the tech tree. The way I made up for this was with all the wonky boosters and shutting off some engines mid flight to control center of thrust, which is probably a really silly way of doing it, but if it works it works:tm:

    The idea of running out of monopropellant while in orbit gives me anxiety

    • @littlebitmoreksp
      @littlebitmoreksp  10 месяцев назад +1

      The glider also has monopropellant in case it needs to attach to the cockpit, and if *both* run out of monopropellant, then both have docking ports and can be refuelled or rescued. Definitely a scary concept, but surprisingly there's redundancy

    Cant your atmospheric engine at a slight angle for your next shuttle project. You won't have to rely so hard on the gimbal and wonky design features. Pop a pair of vacuum engines in line with center of mass and you'll be gucci.
    Still, good job on the interesting design!

    • @littlebitmoreksp
      @littlebitmoreksp  10 месяцев назад

      All engines are already at angles, including the SRBs, LF booster (the entire fuel tank curves in a very specific way), and the vacuum engine (which has enough gimbal to counteract it when in orbit). It's already doing that, I'm just really quite bad at it and this was the result

    Amazing design and nice video. Just try to make the video less nauseating in the sense try and cut out the parts where large movements are sped up really fast

      Thank you for the feedback! I'll keep this in mind for future videos, as I agree it gets really nauseating sometimes. I still have a ways to go with my video editing skills.
