A friend of mine wanted help installing a 18k BTU ductless heat pump unit in his garage that he purchased from Amazon. This unit is a Della Versa series, it's a 19 SEER2 that works with Alexa. This kit comes with everything you need to install other than a surge protector. Follow along as I install this unit, which is not a DIY install.

Clean work learned a lot, I like this video format doesn't spend 5 minutes of it talking about promotions but actually shows the work. Sponsors are obviously there but the process and work is the focus enjoyed watching

I have done a few off brand installs and I always make sure that the clients are aware that yes I can do the install no problem but no warranty at all. I didn’t order the unit from my dealer so no parts can be covered and I can’t get compensated for a warranty replacement. Most of the time I get the same answer like the units were cheap enough that if they had any issues they would just buy a whole new replacement unit. So I did the install just like any other job it turned out like this clean, neat and fairly easy. I have to say tho the unit that I installed was pretty much the same as like a Mitsubishi, or Fujitsu so I had complete confidence in that it was going to work and operate like it should but I am more concerned about the longevity and reliability of the unit. I still keep in contact with that client and he claims he had no issues with it so far and it’s been 4 years. I guess the point of this video was to show us installers that it doesn’t matter the brand it’s the process once you know what to do and learn how to do it, it generally applies for anything. Good job I always like your videos and I was a follower of you from the very beginning I believe we started the HVAC trade at the same time I forgot from your first video. Very cool to see. How do you get customers permission to record tho all your jobs? I have had so many jobs that would make a great video about but I couldn’t record anything I don’t know what to say or how to approach it?

I promise you that piece of garbage is nowhere near the quality of a Mitsubishi. None of the off brand garbage is. I’ve installed a few for customers and there is a reason they are a fraction of the price of the top brands and it’s because it’s a fraction of the quality. I don’t really like mini splits much to begin with anyway. It’s just a glorified window unit and they are a bitch to clean the blower wheels and coils. Ducted is the way to go period. You want an inverter? Spend the money on a ducted split heat pump or dual fuel depending on your climate. I live in heat pump land so it’s 99 percent heat pump here

Any input on MrCool diy units ?
I am electrician by trade . I do hvac controls so we often run control wiring to mini splits in electrical room and idf server rooms .
I have seen Mitsubishi, Daikan , Fujitsu , LG mostly .
I have read a lot of mini splits all are produced by a few different manufacturers.
I think plan to install Mr Cool ina ADU 500sq ft unit .
The reason being I can get it at Costco and DIY .

Easy day’s work. I love doing 1:1 units like this, especially when the electrical panel is so close. Didn’t even need a disconnect since it was within 6 feet!!
I’ve had bad luck using the putty to seal the penetration - it shrinks, and then air/bees get in the house. Been using spray foam ever since.

Bought my first mini-split four years ago, took months to find any HVAC company to install it. Just had my second installed several months ago. I don't understand why HVAC professionals are so hesitant to install these units. After watching Zack, I hope you professionals are changing your views on these systems. I follow most of the HVAC YT channels and really appreciate the challenging work you do. Both my systems had a one-year warranty from the company but required professional install which my HVAC company installed both.

      Because homeowners are entitled.
I had a customer ask to put in a nest thermostat not too long ago. I said "sure, I don't know too much about the software or the app, but I can certainly install the the hardware for you."
After confirming the furnace was running correctly, they paid and I went on my way. The next day, they thought i did something to the furnace because "the fan was running too slow"
One of our managers went back to check my work, yep, all is good. We ended up giving their money back in the end. No idea why.
Now imagine you have a customer that wants you to put in an amazon minisplit...F*** no

I’ll take my ducted system over these mini splits.. got 1 installed a year ago at our shop, it’s always turning on n off under 30*. Runs for less then a minute n shuts off for 3 minutes. Got a new Inverter heat pump installed at my house, last month, works great at 20* has defroster, only takes a minute to defrost, n it runs over an hour or more till it defrosts again, depending on humidity. No holes on my siding, or on my wall. Went through my crawl space with the lineset. Super clean, n I wanted it this way so I could replace my siding this year.

Sounds like either a blockage or they did not leak check before opening the valves. My mini I installed myself works great for my add on bedroom . Quiet too, and super efficient. I also put one in my buddies mobile home heats and cools most of his place and dropped his bill 100. He had two windows units before . It practically paid for itself in 7 months . Each setup calls for different units I guess . You could get some to check the charge.

I have done two for someone who bought them on Ebay that shipped out of Mexico and didn’t even do Fahrenheit on the remote. A brand name I have never heard. I did one first and he liked it so much he bought another one and had me come back and install it too. They do nothing but blow cold air ever since.
I also did two heat pumps for another guy who bought them from Amazon. Same thing he tried one and liked it, had me do another. Solved his problem of the rooms he added on always being hot or cold in the wrong season. At least these did Fahrenheit. Same thing, a brand name i had never heard and no trouble since.
We just got it straight up front that I wasn’t warranting anything and maybe I could get parts later, maybe not. Both said they were cheap enough they would throw them away and buy more if they had trouble down the road. I was just a little worried if they had a problem out of the box but both agreed it would be their problem to send it back.
    Edited for typo

As someone who would be happy with that arrangement and cant find anyone, Thank you. I ended up doing it myself. I just wanted someone who knew what they were doing to connect the lines torque them properly and check for leaks. I did it myself and it wasn't that hard but I would have happily paid half the cost of the unit just to double check my work.
