She was gorgeous and her eyes tell her story. Bi-polar depression is no joke. I know. I suffer with it myself and two high school classmates of mine took their own lives as a result of living with this illness. Another famous example of someone losing their life to bi-polar depression is Lee Thompson Young. This is a very difficult, misunderstood disorder to live with. The depressive states are very painful and paralyzing. Rest in peace beautiful ❤️
Clive seemed only interested in what they could do for him! He did not really have any interest in their well-being. Black women, “the industry” is really not the place for you! 💯
I had no idea. He was always portrayed as a mentor especially to Whitney Houston often providing her financial assistance. Man there's so many powerful evil men in the music industry. Blood suckers contributing to the early demise of our Angels.. rest in power Phyllis Hyman and Whitney Houston 🙏
He didn't force coke up her nose or hold her down while he poured booze down her.... Give her some credit for being a grown woman who made her own choices. Her childhood situation was much more harmful than Davis. RIP, Phyllis
You are absolutely right. In Phyllis's specific case, I think it did relate to her childhood. I think she feared she might repeat patterns as a possible parent because she was primarily focused on her personal career.
This hit hard. I became a fan of her work in 1975. She was our hometown girl who was loved, highly sensitive and extremely talented. She was bold and vibrant. She was pushed out the way for several reasons, mainly because she wouldn’t conform. She was the voice. ❤
Exactly! She was definitely ahead of her time with how much of an outspoken woman she was. She was a business woman to that employed alot of people too. I was a teenager when she passed and I was heartbroken. She know she was classy and beautiful. ❤❤
@@Atasham72 Yes indeed! She said things that most people would only think about but never say out loud She’s never forgotten because she’ll always be remembered as a legend.
Phyllis was tough on the outside but not strong on the inside. She made her decisions to not conform to what Clive Davis wanted her to do so he chose someone else a young Whitney Houston who in later years had her issues with the grip of Clive Davis and the industry. Seems many don’t win going up against the system and end up losing their lives. Phyllis tried twice before to end her life but calculated and made sure she’d win this time. I don’t think anyone helped her take her life for looking at her interviews this woman had sadness and issues of being alone plus being bipolar. Not staying on top of your meds and instead self medicating with substance and alcohol leads to disaster. I was so saddened she left us but when others can’t reach her or her inner demons it’s a loss for everyone.
@@Vincent50 Yes. Unfortunately mental health issues weren’t addressed in the manner that they should have been handled. Substances were used to stop the pain abet temporarily. She was strong willed and sensitive. A special person indeed.
Phyllis Hyman, Minnie Ripperton, Vesta Williams, Phoebe Snow and Marlena Shaw will always be the true R&B divas of the world. I loved them all. They each had their own sophisticated sounds, beauty and brains. They are truly missed. That's what true entertainer's look like. Rest well divas.
@@Rodney-fx8jf Yes. One in the same. The goat is Baphomet. He’s not the only one. Everyone in the industry is RUTHLESS. Hollywood and the upper echelons. Celebrities already gave us the playbook. Someone or ppl must lay down for you to come up. Jesuit Order‼️
I don't believe Phyllis was murdered. I saw Phyllis in the streets of New York drunk and high. I knew her demise was evident. Phyllis left Clive Davis years before she died. Now the death of Whitney Houston is a different story. That was a murder with the assistance of her own family....Pat and Gary Garland.
I had the opportunity to meet her in Philly during a break in a concert. She was beautiful and statuesque. Gorgeous on the outside and a gentle soul on the inside. On a bathroom break and Ms Hyman was kind enough to hold a conversation with me and others in the bathroom. I was so sad to hear of her passing.RIP Queen!
That’s the music/entertainment industry. Look at the late great Florence Ballard. People call her an alcoholic, not taking into consideration that she was raped as a teenager. With no help whatsoever back then, in a time where she would have been annihilated in a courtroom. I’m sure that brought on depression. Did Motown care? The industry only cares about one thing: money!
@@cynthiajones7608 Facts! That is what I have been saying for a long time. That she didn't kill herself. Anyone that goes against that devil Clive Davis will end up dead. Phyllis Hyman came out during the early "90's and was dead not long after that. Then here comes Whitney Houston, coincidence I think not.
When i heard that she had died,i called my sister and we both cried as though she was a relative. Every time she would come to town my husband and i would buy two different sets of tickets once wasn't enough. Her song you know how to love me. That song gets me going. I loved me some Phyllis Hyman
5:00 I in Chicago stopped got tickets to see her. I saw her and knew the importance of that encounter. She had just started out. She rocks. Her music lives on.
Many people don't understand how neglect to a child can cause havoc later on in life. Even when the person seems good and is successful don't mean they don't carry scars.
@@nicholegeorge947i understand that but some actlike it's someone else's fault that /that happened to them that's bad but that ain't no reason to take it out on someone's else it's not their problem that a person got bipolar what they should be doing is trying to get some help for themself and also take their medicine and stop blaming others for what is going on with them and if you want to get frank they alt to blame the one who is responsible for what's going on in their lives
and Stop nit picking at others cause they can get hurt cause some people aint going to be worried about what's their problem some people don't believe in biopar and some don't care cause the person that got it got to care and noone else its their problem only cause noone else has to care the one that need to care is the one that got the illness
Stop spreading rumors. When you work in the recording industry, you will notice that the industry is plagued with criminal elements: drugs, alcohol, and prostitution. The record company pays its artists very well. What they do with their money is their business. That is where having a good manager comes in. I toured with the Temptations and several other recording artists, and I can attest that after the concert, the drug dealers are waiting right outside the front and the back door because they know you have made a lot of money. This is where management steps in to make sure you don't make contact with those people. However, Phyliss did not have that mode of protection. Clive tried to monitor it, but when Hyman chose to be here, there, and everywhere doing her own thing, that opened up several opportunities for dealers to catch up with her and establish a connection. I love Phyliss and talked with her brother, Michael, about forming a band. Clive Davis is a genius, but I don't think he is to blame. I don't believe Phylis was killed. She was depressed and sad, and drugs did not help the least.
To learn that Clive would put black female against one another it's the same as he was doing with Whitney Houston when he wanted to put Monica and Brandy against her . Clive was a very shady character I need to know exactly what he was doing with these young black female artists .
I have always loved Phyllis Hyman ever since I heard her vocals on the Norman Connors “You are my Starship” album. I was blessed to have met her and chatted for a few minutes when she performed at Fat Tuesdays in NYC around 1988. She was warm, gracious, down to earth and funny! I’ve always treasured that memory. I also recall when WBLS-FM radio paused everything to report that she had been found unresponsive. My heart dropped 😢 I couldn’t understand how someone so beautiful and talented would just give up on life. Thank you for helping me understand what she was going through. I pray that she’s found peace at last. 🙏🏽 Her legacy will live on in my heart.
As a Philly native, Phyllis was our Sophisticated Lady - timeless hits galore. Switch 2 letters of her name and it spells "Philly(s)". Broke our hearts when she passed and even today it still makes me tearful. Great coverage. #newsubff
That's an interesting biography...Native American ancestry. Original name Lynch...had to adopt slave master's name Hyman...ironic...both have "y" as 2nd letter.
Philly Native Here. Phyllis was one of our most cherished artists akin to Jean Carn, Three Degree, The Jones Sisters. This video doesn't give Phillys the honor she deserves. Phyllis was an immense talent, and she had the potential to achieve even greater heights, Clive Davis signed her; however, he wanted her to embrace a more mainstream, bubblegum pop style contrast to her soulful and jazz-inspired vocal style. Can you imagine that? His distain for her came from "Do as I say," and when she didn't, suddenly she's egotistical and difficult to work with emerged. The reality is that Clive sidelined her in favor of Whitney, which ultimately led to the label dropping her and impeding her career progress. Her legacy lives on through her music, but her untimely departure serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by artists behind the scenes. #Don'tSeekHere #SingFortheGloryofGod
I just finished watching this video of Phyllis Hyman and reading a few of the post on her. I feel the same way because of her life and what happened to her from a small child what her parents went through is sad. But let us keep in mind a lot of us are like this because what white america has put us through Her parents didn't have a life the father working like there was no tomorrow and the poor mother having to deal with a husband who wanted a big family and didn't have the money for all those children. The mother started cracking up dealing with an abusive husband we can understand her situation it's sad. And even Phyllis who had big dreams just lost it when her dreams became a nightmare and involved with Davis. Yes this man me myself gets teary-eyed I'm man enough to tell the truth. I miss her so much never had the chance to see her concert but (LOVED) hearing her music on the radio here in Baltimore city. Her music just made all the other music right just set off all the other songs that was played before they played her songs. Phyllis Hyman will never be forgotten NEVER we (LOVED) her then and we still (LOVE) now our R&B queen 👑
This is absolutely the best video I have ever seen about Phyllis Hyman. She was one of the greatest singers of all time in my opinion. I spent hours as a little girl trying to sing like her. This video was so well made, the narration, the flow of the story and all the wonderful photos and videos, many which I've never seen before. Thank you for paying tribute to Phyllis, she more than deserves it.❤
I'm such a Phyllis Hyman fan. When she committed suicide back in 1995, I was devastated, I just couldn't believe it. She was tired of suffering. #RIH #RIP #PHYLLISHYMAN #YOURELOVEDANDMISSED!
There’s one record evil company executive that has been responsible for a lot of the deaths of a lot of African American artists and everyone in the business knows exactly who he is, but he’s going to pay for his awful atrocities in the near future and it still won’t be soon enough.💩🤬 R.I.P. Ms. Hyman👑💯😇
She committed suicide because she was mentally ill how is that a record executives fault ? You fckn ppl will blame everyone for your shit but won’t take responsibility. She was bipolar and took alcohol and drugs to self medicate not a good combo with that condition and she took her own life nobody killed her, she killed herself … bunch of clowns 🤡
I weep she impacted me as a young kid hearing her voice was angelic. I hate how greedy monsters use our gifts for their gluttony of money. Rest in forever peace Phyllis, Whitney🙌🏾all of our ancestors beautiful we love you eternally in our hearts forever ❤
My mother had the honor of meeting Phyllis Hyman, backstage at her concert, when she came to town. She said that Ms. Hyman was very down to Earth & had a funny since of humor. They also had a stage play about her life and career, recently in Chicago, last month, entitled, "Living All Alone: The Phyllis Hyman Story". RIP to an R&B legend, Phyllis Hyman
Phyllis’s life is very complex and dark, can we please stop saying this!!! There’s energy and consequences to EVERYTHING we do. Whether it’s innocent, etc. Jazmin needs to heal.
Phyllis's Music Got Me Through Some of Worst Times in My Life, "Living in Confusion" Was My DAM ANTHEM! I Was BLESSED to Actually Meet Her! R.I.P. Queen 👑, Gone BUT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN❤❤❤❤
I tried not to cry, but your brilliance in telling the story of one of my favorite icons had me in tears. Had Clive Davis been patient with her a little longer, it could have saved her life. Thank you for this exceptional, well-researched story. May Ms. Hyman continue to rest in peace forever.
True but I believe it started at home. Now I see that Phyllis seemed to be forever chasing the attention and validation from the world her father deprived her and her whole family of.
Phyliss wasn't compromised. Her contract with Arista was based on her standards of life. Record companies don't just give a contract without scrutinizing the entire artist beyond just talent.
Phyllis Hyman died EXACTLY 3 months after Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Selena also died just before her birthday 😢 Hyman and Whitney Houston (Clive Davis's replacement for Hyman) both died before a big appearance; Apollo Theatre and Grammy Awards respectively. There's definitely something weird.
She did love herself, but do you say that to all of people that might have some type of mental illness because that was her? Because Robin Williams must’ve really hated himself.
Fantastic documentary! There was no one I admired more than this woman as an early 80s baby. She was the physical embodiment of class and elegance. I adore her ❤
I was sitting here thinking the same thing. I was young "83 baby, but I knew beauty and class and I loved her. Anita Baker was another one . They sang with so much grace ❤. My little feelings was hurt when I found out she passed. I didn't understand how someone so beautiful cld do this to herself. It was kinda traumatizing, it didn't make sense til I got older. At my age now, I really don't believe she did it. ❤❤❤
Clive Davis has a pattern…. HE ALWAYS PAYS ATTENTION TO HIS CURRENT STARLET BUT NEVER FULLY INVEST IN THEIR LIVES SO WHEN HE FINDS THE NEXT (in his opinion) BEST THING…. It’s easy for him to scrap or dispose of yesterday’s thrill ! My aunt Rena Scott was dumped for Phyllis Hyman just like Phyllis Hyman was dumped for Whitney Houston ! It’s a dirty business !
Clive Davis deleted many black songstress in the music industry and is still making money after their death with movies. Clive Davis is getting richer with the Whitney Houston movie and the Genius Aretha movies. 😢
Good Morning, Family. Thank you for taking the time to make a video on my favorite artist of all time, Phyllis Hyman. I have been following her for many years. Some things that should be included in this short documentary are essential to note. When Phyllis committed suicide that week, she was scheduled to perform at the BLUE NOTE. I knew because I had tickets. Two, Angela Bofill did an interview years ago describing Phyllis Hyman's erratic behavior as her label mate. Angela Bofill stated that Phyllis once took her shoes and pantyhose off to perform on stage with bare feet; she would have erratic outbursts and challenge Angela Bofill to a voice contest. The erratic demise of Phyllis Hyman contributed to a cascading series of events that offer no parachute to safety, healing, warmth, or self-love. It displays the music industry's true nature, as long as you can give us what we want, "we will always be there for you." No authentic support, family support, or genuine sense of humility are lessons we can all learn from this. Phyllis Hyman was a prodigy, for sure, with undeniable talent and infectious warmth in her many songs. She will truly be missed, cherished, and loved. Her day-one fans and those close to her will always miss her.
There was one, most important spiritual being that was missing in her life, and that was God. Depression and Suicide are oppressions of the enemy, that only God can deliver you from.
I can document at least 17 times I saw Phyllis Hyman, the majority of which occurred at The Blue Note, NYC's leading jazz venue, and of course on Broadway in " Sophisticated Ladies". Her shows were ALWAYS on-point and old out, with bar patrons three people deep. While performing, she even took french-fries off my brother's plate as we sat stage front. Her personality was mercurial, as before one show she came around to all the tables thanking us for coming, while before other shows reacted volatile to intrusions upon her privacy. And let's not forget her stage presence and wardrobe. The audience, we fellows particularly, was amazed and in awe of her, as she often spilled out of her garments, much to our delight, lol. R.I.P. Phyllis. We still yearn for you aways.
I still remember the day my car radio broke the news of Phyllis Hymans passing. She was one of my favorite, if not thee favorite female singers. It brought tears to my eyes, I couldn’t believe it!😔 To this day i still luv and play her songs. May she continue to R.I.P. 😔😇❤️
@@AnAdorableWombat1 well... The industry probably has their own insurance policies which may have special provisions because of the nature of said industry
I saw Phyllis Hyman at a concert in Anaheim, Ca in 1990, I'll never forget her stage presence, she was absolutely striking, classy and at the top of her game that night, I was sitting with my gf in the front row near the stage when Phyllis came down the stage steps singing"The Answer Is You.. she stopped for a moment, winked at my gf and said is that your man? the crowd is roaring then she sits in my lap and sings the entire last verse of "The Answer Is You"on my lap.. needless to say that's a moment I still treasure to this day and my gf was a good sport about the whole thing... my gf and I dated for years after that but eventually we went our own ways but are still friends some 34 years later.. we often talk about that once in a lifetime night in Anaheim and the thrill Phyllis gave us both night, she was a beautiful lady with a voice only God could give, I miss her but she gave me a moment I'll always treasure.....May she forever RIP.
I mean you can literally hear her depression in the song “Living all alone” that song was EVERYTHING! But you could be thee happiest person & listen to that song & can feeel the depression rolling off that song & her voice
Clive gave Phyliss an opportunity. When you are under contract, you have to conform to that contract. I think Clive was lenient with her by keeping her on contract while she strayed to do Broadway. Berry would have never allowed Diana or his artists to go outside their contract. That is the way the business is. So, Clive allowed her to stay, but Phyliss, and I love her to death, took advantage of that. She was the most talented in her class, but she was strong-willed. Just to note: Her brother Michael and I planned on forming a group. He came to hear me play piano at a restaurant in Harlem and proposed the idea.
Right instead of another movie about Whitney Houston… we love Whitney but Now we are starting to see that these Whitney movies are just a Money Grab… Like how many times can u keep telling the same story 😢… but yet we don’t have 1 on Phyllis….We gotta STOP Allowing these non-Black Americans music executives telling US who Are Legends are-Black Americans know who are Legends Are

This was so very well done. It contained stuff that wasn’t in her Unsung episode. I always thought it was a shame for those who struggled with metal illness back then because it was taboo, people didn’t seek treatment, get properly diagnosed or commit to medication. I always felt so bad for her and especially Donny Hathaway. Two talented people who struggled so but couldn’t commit to the meds, so sad to be that lonely to think taking your life is the best answer. I pray they found the peace they didn’t have on Earth. Living Al alone was my favorite song of hers and still is. RIP
Her album Prime of my life is my favorite. Still playing it on my turntable all these years later. I love Phyllis Hyman, it was a sad day when they announced her death.💔💞
They both are from Philly so it can be some possibilities hey I love them both...beautiful voices and for me Phyllis was and forever is one of my favorite top 5 singers of all time❤❤❤❤❤
I loved this woman as though she was my sister. That's how much I grieved her death in June 1995. I went to about 4 of her concerts, brought every album and felt sad for her upbringing and lifestyle. Phyllis you are forever in my heart. RIP❤️

Maybe because she was the next one after Phyllis and knew something about what she went through. She probably made up her mind over the years that she would not give in. That is very valiant, but the end is the same. It seems that the best way to fight is to fight from joining. As I listened, I imagined it would have been so much better for Phyllis, has she continued with General Electric 💡. Thinking that perhaps, it would have been a lot less stressful. However, you don't have to be in the industry, to commit suicide. Life.
@@rosajohnson5212 Most artists despise 9-5 jobs. They have a different calling and purpose. She accomplished her basic calling in life but the lack of a stable and loving rlshp along with her mental health and substance abuse issues contributed greatly to her decision to check out. Had she had a man capable of loving her despite her issues she would probably have another album out now but the video makes it clear why trusting a man would be an issue for her, esp. considering her father abandoned his wife and family. The good news is she made her mark despite a troubled upbringing. Most don't even get that far....
I truly believed Phylis was murdered bc that just don't sit well with me that she would take her life, yes she may have been depressed, but I believe that Clive had put a hit out on her, like with Whitney an Bobbi Kristina, only they will covered up to look like they killed themselves. So many deaths in the industry are being covered up, it's been going on for years. Hollywood has always been hard on Black Entertainment, as well as being dark. You got to give up something for the fame or you if you rebel an try to go your own way they will have you killed.

One thing I appreciate about watching different docs about someone I already know about is how the information is attained. This channel did their homework and then some! Thanks for going the extra mile to discuss Phyllis's ancestors, not just her music career and personal battles.
She didn't have bipolar, Donny Hathaway was not schizophrenia. These are people who knew the truth and expressed. Was not going to do something stupid for fame. period
Everything is not a grand conspiracy. These artist are regular people just like all of us with a talent musically. That's all they are. Things happen in people's lives all the time.
@@omgblk23 it's a person who obviously suffered from a mental illness and subsequently took her life as a result of this. I don't see any conspiracy theory to follow here.🤔
My cousin and Phyllis were best friends, and my cousin told me she was a manic depressive person. My cousin was also a psychologist. I asked her why she couldn't help her, and she told me she was fighting her inner demons and no one could help her.
Thank you for doing this and showing her the respect as a phenomenal Queen and legend. When I first came to know Ms Hyman I was 11 years old and I fell in love. She was absolutely amazing and absolutely beautiful. And such a force. I’ve always thought she deserved more recognition than she received. Your description of her is spot on. Undeniable beauty a vision of allegiance and power on stage. A true legend, royalty, beauty and strength.
Phyllis .. a GORGEOUS woman with a soulful, POWERHOUSE voice! I watched her unsung episode and just felt such a deep wave of sadness .. I felt like she never actually seen the beauty of herself and what's more was coming into the industry having everything already naturally to her (the voice, the looks, the poise, the charisma) but being let down; she always felt lonely and sadly it seemed when it came to her passing, she left us most likely feeling that way. She should of been so much bigger than she received as far as her career. Rest peacefully, Phyllis. You are loved and never forgotten.
I would also like to add when Phyllis Hyman had her untimely death, one of her sisters spoke at her service and stated, "You all are responsible for this." This was shocking to me because, at that time, I was not sure who is "they," but her mental illness was not viable information at the time. There was no social media then, so anonymity for certain things was very easy to develop. No matter what we are trying to achieve, nothing can replace possessing organic relationships that can stand the test of time.
Yes, family, friends and loved ones are so important, but unfortunately your family usually have the same "demons" you do and friends are usually a dime a dozen until you need them, then they run for the hills..
I’m 37 almost 38 my grandma introduced me to Ms Hyman years ago when I was about 18. Omg I love her and her music. You know how to love me is my absolute favorite. She was so gorgeous loved every thing about her and her music and style
Clive= Phyllis & Whitney, makes me wonder were they both unalived? I don't see Phyllis going along with the evils in the Music industry nor staying silent about it. Kanye woke people up
🤦🏼♂️ Whitney was a crackhead for ages. Phyllis was bipolar since the 80’s stop feeding into this conspiracy theory bullshit. These artists would of made more money alive than dead, it’s been proven, they ain’t MJ or Prince who’s catalogs will test the end of time or Elvis or the Beatles. You ppl with your conspiracy theories are funny. She killed herself … period. Whitney overdosed … end of story. It’s sad but it is what it is. Phyllis also dos drugs and alcohol not a good mix when you’re bipolar. Kanye ain’t woke nobody up, he’s a racist clown who’s also bipolar and off his meds most of time talking that crazy shit … y’all need to stop blaming the record labels for these artists fked up way of living their lives and ending tragically … so I assume by your logic … Sony Killed Michael and the labels Prince was against killed him too ? 😂😂😂😂
It's not impossible in the ugly industry. I personally feel Whitney's version of resistence and boldness kicked in when she was already knee deep in the industry with her massive success. No matter, she never overcame her drug addiction and Phyllis Hyman could not overcome her mental health struggles. Additionally, they both were not accepted as their most authentic selves nor truly happy within from the moment they met Clive and signed contracts. Whitney called him her "industry father" but I felt like she spoke so endearing of him in public for show. Going along with the game, you know?
@@TheRetroWoman80 No, Clive is genuine. I recently saw him at a party in Beverly Hills where I was the pianist. We talked about New York and the friends we had in common. Clive gives opportunities, but what you do with your opportunity is your prerogative. Even if the opportunity is only working a regular 9-5, you must understand that a job allows you to make money. What you do with your money after work is your prerogative, not your boss's. Companies also give their employees medical and health insurance.
I met Phyllis Hyman backstage at AFRAAM FEST at Waterside Norfolk Virginia. I was astounded by her voice and the crowd's response to her performance! I was 22 years old and she made such an impact on my life. I loved her music "Old Friend " and her remake "What You Won't Do For Love" ❤This is an amazing documentary. Man..….it sounds like she struggled more with BPD than bipolar disorder. I still remember where I was when I heard the news she died. Made me cry, she was SUCH a talent.
It’s amazing how they always seem to diagnose women in music with drug addiction bipolar disorder or mental illness BUT YET. They don’t see where they’re at fault i always felt Clive had something to do with Whitney’s death
This Andrew, this industry is so wicked. It's a shame that they take in people a lot is because they don't do what they want them to do or I just don't know what to buy you. It's a shame and you know what? Something needs to be done about this industry. Because there's too many people. Great talent has gone away too soon. Because they say so, it's not right and it needs to be guessed along and it needs to be dealt with. This is going on for decades after decades and nothing has been done to these industry people.😢😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

I’m no bible thumper but I can’t make the sun rise or set ,so I gotta believe someone much bigger s in charge of this show. Much love ❤️
She was sick, she had been bipolar since the 80’s and she finally took her own life, back then I’m sure there wasn’t the type of treatment you can get now and most likely she wasn’t taking her meds the proper way and add the drugs and alcohol it’s not a good mix. It’s too bad these super talented artists have such a hard time dealing with their demons that their only available option is to take their own life. Probably nobody in her team was supportive enough to het her the help she needed … it truly is sad
You've done a phenomenal job of researching and finding footage that I've never seen before. People who are that gifted deal with demons because creativity causes one to be open. Early neglect really impacts children. Sadly, with a gift like that often comes a curse. The curse is "feeling" deeply. Look at the background of Prince, Michael, and others in the industry. That tax debt probably drove her over the edge. 🙄🙄 Those people are relentless! This is a thorough documentary. I love it!

A woman not wanting to have children has nothing to do with childhood issues. Some women just don't want kids, and we're allowed to not want kid's.

She said things that most people would only think about but never say out loud
She’s never forgotten because she’ll always be remembered as a legend.

The sad part is that no matter what anyone does or does not do, if someone is really determined to leave, you can't stop them. RIP Miss Phyllis.
It's that stereotype of being the strong black woman.... beautiful, statuesque and wealthy.

Yes indeed! I loved Phyllis Hyman!!!

Maybe because she was the next one after Phyllis and knew something about what she went through. She probably made up her mind over the years that she would not give in. That is very valiant, but the end is the same. It seems that the best way to fight is to fight from joining.

One thing I appreciate about watching different docs about someone I already know about is how the information is attained.
This channel did their homework and then some!
Thanks for going the extra mile to discuss Phyllis's ancestors, not just her music career and personal battles.
Yass 👏
Glad you enjoyed it!❤️
I sincerely agree.
This made me cry again. I was so into her and her music. Her duet with Grover Washington Jr. Sacred Kid of Love is a classic
Just because “everything is not a grand conspiracy “, doesn’t automatically mean nothing is.
@@omgblk23 it's a person who obviously suffered from a mental illness and subsequently took her life as a result of this. I don't see any conspiracy theory to follow here.🤔
FACTS ‼️
@omgblk23 she was diagnosed as bipolar. Her family has a history of mental illness. It's well documented and has been verified by her sister.
My cousin and Phyllis were best friends, and my cousin told me she was a manic depressive person. My cousin was also a psychologist. I asked her why she couldn't help her, and she told me she was fighting her inner demons and no one could help her.
Can't help someone who doesn't want or ask for it
Thank you for doing this and showing her the respect as a phenomenal Queen and legend.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Phyllis .. a GORGEOUS woman with a soulful, POWERHOUSE voice!
She was absolutely beautiful and had a voice, style, and presence that will never be duplicated. Rest in peace, eternal legend. 🙏🏽
Clive is the devil
Kanye part of the problem
@@TheRetroWoman80 No, Clive is genuine. I recently saw him at a party in Beverly Hills where I was the pianist. We talked about New York and the friends we had in common. Clive gives opportunities, but what you do with your opportunity is your prerogative. Even if the opportunity is only working a regular 9-5, you must understand that a job allows you to make money. What you do with your money after work is your prerogative, not your boss's. Companies also give their employees medical and health insurance.
A Beautiful And Amazing Lady!
Rest in peace Queen 👑💐🌟
She was so beautiful.
Thank you. Looking forward to seeing the stage production of "Living all Alone" this weekend at the Fox in Atlanta. May she R.I.P.
As soon as I heard Clive Davis I already knew that her tragic death was not suicide. I'm sorry, that man has so much blood on his hands. SMH
.....❤ It's so nice to feel you hold me again 😢 I met her at the valley forge music center in PA I hated being tall. But this woman made me LOVE it. She sang without shoes on. Thank you mommy for showing me real music and talent. Rip mommy and Phyllis Hyman.❤
Those are 2 of my favorite songs from her as well. She was an amazing, beautiful talent. There will never be another like her. ❤
This was fantastic. Thank you for your hard work.
Glad you enjoyed it!❤️
This was absolutely amazing. Thank you so much. She was my idol, loved her.
Glad you enjoyed it!❤️
Clive Davis will have his day in court. Mark my words.
He'll die before they bring forth his secrets, he will not pay for his multiple transgressions in his lifetime.
No he won't..
That day needs to hurry up
@@eugenedantzler4485 if it can happen to Diddy it can happen to Clive
@@TokyoCaliLove the difference is.... Clive has more power than Diddy.... Clive also has the complexion for protection unfortunately.
❤ I saw Phyllis at a club in Chicago. Tall stunning beautiful. I love her music. She made me happy to be tall. It was so sad to hear of her death.
That demon is a parasite. The same response with Phyllis Hyman and Whitney Houston."The show must go on,'
I remember shopping in the mall w my boyfriend while in a store they announced it😢
...sooo fkk'g sad.
She was a gem, classy, saucy and talented.
Rest beautiFul legend⚘
Man..….it sounds like she struggled more with BPD than bipolar disorder.
I still remember where I was when I heard the news she died. Made me cry, she was SUCH a talent.
My late husband loved Ms. Hyman. We had the pleasure of seeing her. May they both RIP.
What a voice she had. “In the Prime of My Life” is one of my favorite albums. There’s not a voice around today that can match hers.
This is going on for decades after decades and nothing has been done to these industry people.😢😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Sadly, the artist takes the oath for the fame.
So so Many..
Could that have been what happened to 😮 jimmy,Jim etc
KARMA !
That’s a bill that always has to be payed.
If that gives u any comfort. It does for me. So many do so much evil but knowing the day will come no matter who they r or how powerful they will have to settle up with someone much bigger than us. That Higher power can be whoever u choose 2 believe in.
That everyone’s right.
I’m no bible thumper but I can’t make the sun rise or set ,so I gotta believe someone much bigger s in charge of this show.
Much love ❤️
Especially when you have no one looking after you like Beyoncé had her parents
Just makes me so sad. She was so talented and absolutely gorgeous. She did so much in her life-I just dont understand.
Such a beautiful lady great music rest in peace she never disappointed
Clive Davis has been around a lot of greats and their untimely deaths… 🤔🤨😕
Absolutely Clive Davis has more blood on his hands than a surgeon!
Phyllis Hyman had an amazing voice. She was an beautiful woman.
R.I.P. 🕊️ Phyllis Hyman ~ she had such a unique and beautiful voice .. Ohhhhh! my that Clive Davis name always coming up😳 💯
Make it make sense. Clive is the dam DEVIL.👹
When are we ever gonna connect the dots ?? Clive Davis is here again??
You've done a phenomenal job of researching and finding footage that I've never seen before. People who are that gifted deal with demons because creativity causes one to be open. Early neglect really impacts children. Sadly, with a gift like that often comes a curse. The curse is "feeling" deeply. Look at the background of Prince, Michael, and others in the industry. That tax debt probably drove her over the edge. 🙄🙄 Those people are relentless! This is a thorough documentary. I love it!
Glad you enjoyed it!❤️
I agree. It sounds like not having a childhood with security, especially emotionally ,played a huge impact on her life.
Living all alone!
Finding out now how dirty the industry is, I Dnt think she ended her life. Money was the motive n someone is getting paid til this day off her music
