Don’t take advice from anybody who paid $19 for a thirty cent price of copper scrap
I might’ve been ripped off
Also, don’t take advice from someone who can’t spell piece
It has been proven that copper kills more bacteria than chlorine. But one little won’t do the trick. You need at least a ground rod to actually work for the size of a pool. I use 12 1/2 fitting in a container with holes. My ph level is always good, and never had to shock my hot tub.
exactly
To prevent algae on roofs they place copper or zinc metal at the top, rain water washes over it and carries particles down the roof which will kill and prevent algae.
Oh that’s interesting thanks for watching
Modern residential shingles have copper oxides coated on the shingle surface.
Copper does work, but in reality you would need a much larger amount of copper to make any difference.
Oh, I’ll have to get one is bigger
You are so correct you definitely need to have some electricity going through it. Just put the copper in there really really doesn’t work. Thank you for writing and thanks for watching.
i just put some pennies in a clean spice container and drilled some holes in the container, it really does work, but i still recommend to add some chlorine to sanitize proper, but it will keep your water super clear
That's a great idea!
Her is another item that will save you money, a lot of money. NEVER use the inline Chlorine feeders that are plumbed into you pool system. They use at least twice the chlorine necessary even on their lowest settings. They eat chlorine and actually over chlorinate your pool. Get a $10 floating chlorine dispenser on one of those discounts websites...too expensive in retail stores. I used to put 2 3" tablets every 2-3 days in my inline auto feeder and the chlorine was always high. Now with the floating unit I put 2 tablets in every 2+ weeks and the Chlorine level is perfect. Now you can easily calculate the savings. With the price gouging prices of Chlorine now that is a huge savings. I have been doing this for the last 9-10 years and now many of my neighbors are doing the same thing.
Excellent tip thanks for watching
OMG, seriously, you paid $20.00 bucks for that piece of copper.
I know right what a rip off
I don't understand. In one comment you said, "it doesn't work very well without electricity". But in another, you say "so far no algae".
So, what doesn't work well, if it prevented algae just fine?
Since I put it in there, I haven’t had a problem with it but that could be just luck
For $20 you could had have purchased at minimum a 2ft piece of copper pipe.. maybe even larger though.
I got robbed
Could have cut in 2" lengths and used it for 8 years ooof
I think you need to have some type of electrolysis or ionization for this to work. I found it this didn’t really help.
I think for it to work you have to have some type of electrolysis going on with an electrical current, so this was a fail
Chlorine is actually reacting with the copper and etching away at ions. Sodium Bicarbonate also has a leeching effect on metals. In the food industry you cannot hook up copper to a CO² carbonation system... makes it non potable. Not a complete fail. Pennies are mostly iron with a slight copper coating. Once the two metals start to etch away... The reaction becomes swifter.
Any updates on the copper killer for algea?
So far so good I haven’t had any LG
So I actually started using copper. My pool is almost 25k gallons and in the AZ sun nearly all day so this time of year is a nuisance for algae blooms. I saw other videos and started my own experiment. I had three types of raw copper which should be the same grade as pipe. I had screen so I cut 2 sections that were about 3"x5" and its thin screen so water can still pass through it. I placed it in the strainer 2 days before my pool guy was coming and lo and behold the algae is and has been gone since and that has been almost 2 weeks. I am currently still watching videos to make sure of when to remove copper because it can break down too much and start turning stuff green but from what I read and understand that will happen if your levels are going unchecked. But, now I will pull out the copper screen and watch for the spots again and just add it back when/if they come. The pool guy was surprised at the levels and no algae considering chlorine was only at 1 and there were huge blooms when he left the week before... So I would attest that it does kill it and pretty quickly. But I will add to do some research and be mindful of leaving copper, especially once it starts the degrading process. My plan is IF the screen breaks down too fast I can use pipe. If that's too much I have copper bullion that's far more dense, but I feel it does work...
@@THOTHvii Excellent information totally appreciate that the copper will collect a green film on it which I guess is it breaking down? Good to hear that you got rid of your LG thank you for watching and commenting.
@@TomLeeman Yes, and it will break down further. From what I am seeing that is really the only time it can become harmful to skin(like dying it) is when it breaks down too far and there is nothing for the copper ions to cling to. Once it gets far past the "patina" state I would change the copper. But I have seen ionizer anodes that are nearly gone and no skin or hair is being dyed. Thank you for sharing as well.
@@THOTHvii thanks will do
So does it work or not? I have plenty of copper over here so I guess I will give it a try
To tell you the truth, I could not get a good read on it. I don’t think it worked. I think you need to have some type of electrolysis for it to work really good but good luck thanks for watching.
I put Gold coins in my pool, lasts the whole year on chemicals used in years! But some one stole my gold coins dam it!
Gold coins that’s expensive
Good idea
lol next time go to Home Depot a just get a 2 dollar elbow
I know right they ripped me off big time
Holy crap $20.. dude I’d mail you a piece for free as long as you pay the postage. What a scam
I know right they really got me that was ridiculous
$20 for a 2" piece of 1" copper pipe 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, it was a little expensive wasn’t it?
@@TomLeemanyes you got ripped off. Home depo
Ive been doing this for so long and i have a bright blue pool year round , maybe use 1 pack of shock chlorine once per month
So far so good
there are videos out there saying putting copper in poos is a bad idea, that it will stain and make water green. is this true, or are they saying this to prevent people from not buying their anti-algae product ?
Wow... if this works without using electricity. Then why have solar panel versions of this?
Good question
lmao im in the wrong business! Jeeeeezuss!, 18 bucks for a zip tie and a 1-inch piece of copper?
I know, right I should start a company selling a piece of copper pipe for 20 bucks. Holy crap did I get taken?
Dude needed a I scissors to break a piece of plastic interesting
A dude gets old and can’t open anything without help.
@TheSkulsum69 I'm not quite there but at times my hands are so sore it is hard to do the simplest things. And this coming from a guy who his whole life did many things in his youth with his hands that required tools. When you over use em, they get tired in their old age. Wore out so to speak. But when you're in your youth you don't think about that. Not at all
Mesmerized by that poor bug u left in there to drown, also did it work?
I don’t think it really worked very well. I think you need to have some type of electrolysis involved in it.
you should check out the Solar electrolysis float for the pool. i've heard mixed reviews.
@@TomLeeman
Don't, some say it works, and some say to not do this, that it will stain the pool, hard to know what to believe
I don’t know if this worked or not. I do believe that you need to have some type of electrolysis. I did have this unit that had a solar panel on top and copper coil under it and it kind of worked but had to clean it every other day good luck thanks for watching.
I don’t think it worked very well. I think it needs electrolysis.
So when do we find out?
I don’t think it works at a very well. I do believe that you need to have some type of electrical current running through it for it to work. I was thinking about hooking up a solar panel with a 12 V extension.
I put about 30 pennies in my pool filter and they stop the alge just Remer to change the pennies when they start to fade in about a month
Great idea thanks and good luck with your pool thanks for watching.
Just gonna use some pennies and see how that works
Not a bad idea
Make sure they are old pennies cause the pennies after 1982 aren’t copper
@@cruzsoto4042 thanks for letting me know 😂 guess those pennies I have in there were just a waste then
This is a bad idea for salt water and chlorinated pools. Copper is dissolved by chlorine and those metal particles will stain and destroy most pool surfaces over time, additionally adding copper to the water will damage the elements in a salt water cell.
That is very interesting. Thank you for the tip.
I had 2 piesedes of copper pipe separated by 1/4 " plastic spacers & i put a couple of volts with a dc converter threw it 1 pipe negative & the other positive would hang them into my pool i would not get algae all year when i stopped putting it in i started using tons of algacide
That is interesting. I’ll have to try that. Thanks for watching.
Can you explain what you did in more detail?
@@circusitch I zip tied a copper pipe to my basket, but I think I need to get an electric stimulus to it for it to work
@@TomLeeman Thank you, but I meant that question for Mathew Perry. (the actor)
Did he use scissors to open a plastic bag. 🤦♂️where has masculinity gone.
This did not work by the way good luck with yours thanks for watching
$20 they ripped you off $18
I know I got screwed
i tried a few pieces in my basket and it did nothing
Same here this was a failure experiment
Get poolrx works for 6 months around $70 you will use less chemicals too kills all algae.
Omg. That is a $1 coupling at home depot... $20.. for that ??????
Boy did I get ripped off?
You must be a chemist
You paid $20????? Look at Lowes or Home Depot for any copper fitting.
I know right I got ripped off just trying to help a small business
So what's your conclusion?
So far, no algae
Some feedback: You say "Let's find out ..." But you never give us the conclusion. We still don't know if it worked. Don't make us wait 2:13 to learn nothing. HTH with future videos.
I’m gonna have to tell you that it wasn’t a very good solution and did not work. There has to be some type of electrolysis involved in it but thanks for writing and watching.
The copper will eventually wear off the lining of your pool and cost far more to repair
Excellent tip. Thanks.
False
@@TomLeemannot really. The copper would, at most, stain it. Copper doesn't destroy the liner..
You paid $20 for that little piece of copper ?!!!! 🤣 You got taken for a ride BIG TIME!!!!!! That company must love people like you 🤣. Sorry !
I know I got ripped off
