I recently discovered El Estepario and have binge watched all his videos. Now im onto reaction videos and i have to say you are my favorite for sure. You explain things so a non musician such as myself can understand. I appreciate that. This song is my era, i love this song and dude just takes it to another level. So damn good!
Fantastic job Tony. Thank you. El Estepario has a new band, The Cost. On his channel he has their first two songs Not for Me and Into the Drone. It's interesting to see how he adapts to playing for a band.
DrumRollTony I love your stuff so much. Every song I want a reaction for you've already hooked me up. Thanks Tony. (And your mini intro lick is freaking amazing too)
Excellent reaction. The stopping and commenting is what I’m here for. If I want uniterrupted version, I will just watch the original. I don’t need someones stupid face there in the corner. These videos are great for none drummes, so that we can understand and appriciate the technicalities of the drumming.
Exactly! There's nothing more boring than watching someone watching someone doing something cool. It's a "Reaction video" so I want to see real surprise, emotions, excitement when the performer does something amazing.
Just kool to listen how you explain whats happening in the song. Like so many sit in awe watching EES give show us and yep feelin it. Have a great day.
If anyone has a problem wi5h you stopping and rewinding etc they can move on and find someone that suits their taste. I have watched 2 videos of yours both reactions to EES. You talked in the last one about how he adds things to the song but the drums don't overwhelm they still support and enhance the song. your break downs and explanations for me are the same. you make it that much easier to understand what he is doing and be able to appreciate it for people who aren't drummers or maybe not musically inclined either. I have no idea if you ould replicate his play ir not but it's also nice seeing someone who also obviously has great musical talent and training appreciate the different choices he made from what you or others might do and enjoynit/explain it. Subscribed and followed, this is how musicians who react to music should be.
Played quads in an elite squad, been following drummers since 5th grade band (1972) and this guy is astounding, if you mention that he’s the best you ever heard everybody says you must not know much about drummers, than you hear Dennis Chambers comment and you feel a bit validated. My brother was in blue thunder as a horn player back in the 80’s, we still laugh about it. Thanks for the review buddy.
I use that finger technique to relieve my thumb cramps. I'm a butcher and over the years I've developed hand cramps from working with cold meat all day. Sometimes the thumb cramps kick in while I'm playing so I'll switch to that finger style to give my thumb a rest.
I had this discussion with one of my friends but I think Estepario is gonna inspire a new generation of just insanely technical drummers. Kinda like how Tim Henson and other technical shredders basically propelled that style forward. Feel like that will inevitably lead to the same problem that old gen guitar players have with new gen players, that all their playing is just shred not enough melodic feeling etc. translating that roughly for drums if that makes any sense…I feel like that could be a thing in the future. Idk if that’s just me, both styles are equally cool and I like both. Curious to see what happens
The funny thing is, the rhythms are super easy and not really technical at all. He only plays 16th notes, 16th note triplets, and 32nd notes, with occasional bursts of 64th notes. Everything is divisible by four. The speed at which they are played is not easy, but the musical is clear the moment you listen. That is money in the bank! Super smart on his part. Many other drummers are out there playing incredibly difficult rhythmic substitutions and handling much more complex musical demands....but those folks are more difficult to listen to and the average person has no clue what they are even hearing and therefore don't give credit. EES is the BEST at presenting accessible rhythms to a global wide audience. He excels in speed, clarity, control, groove, stamina, and making excellent creative choices over famous songs. His social media marketing has also done wonders. He is also funny as hell and his aggressive comedy is top tier. Love the dude. I imagine a lot of young people will try to play like him, I agree. They won't keep any bar gigs but they will be awesome on camera!
Hand grip? If I recall right, it has to do with easing (or changing) the strains on hand and wrist to make it easier on him for the amount of practice and playing he does. (Apologies, didn't check comments to see if someone else had said that already).
I'm not exactly sure about this, however, I have watched pretty much all of EES's video's and from what I have seen he seems to change his grip of the right hand stick (never his left hand) usually when he is trying to force more power in his floor tom as well as when switching between right side cymbal and floor tom. That's just my observation. Great review man.
What if you checked out some dirty loops😎 the drumming in “coffee break is over” is wild, “next to you” is a masterpiece, “lost in you” is brilliant! This video reminded me because Aaron is also so tight in the pocket, and his fills are so precise, like the groovefather 🤘🏼
I tell you what Tones, I would love to hear him do a cover interpretation of "People Vultures" by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. This is a band with _two_ drummers... I'll bet he could do both parts and then some. 😂
I love El Estepario and I do feel the reaction videos that the uploader sticks his face in the bottom corner and says very very little is a bit disrespectful to the main man El Estepario.. the video is just for likes but Tony's video is like night n day I love to see the tear down and appreciation for the master at work 🙏🤟
I like this version but love the first version he did of this. That was my entry point into the world of EES. His back up vocal is part of the song (that I've loved for 40 years) for me now! The camera work, editing and humour of his home videos was great! ruclips.net/video/I72pKj1wyPc/видео.html
Never justify why you need to stop and explain... This is a 'reaction' video. And, trust me, we want (no, need) your reaction... Please pause and explain everything. Thanks in advance
excellent reaction and breakdown, tony! love your videos. may i point out one other video of him doing a skrillex DNB cover: ruclips.net/video/FXS-inT80PA/видео.html
Very tasteful way to call out the "reactors" who are just milking these artists. And personally, if I'm not receiving expert commentary then why should I care what anyone thinks? THAT SAID: There is art in reactions like The Fine Bros' reaction videos. I have a hard time believing that the morals that drive fair use aren't just obvious. I guess what I would tell people is: if you can't tell me what value you are adding to this art, then it's nothing and you should not use it in your video.
I get more out of your reviews than any other as far as instruction and music structure. Samus is just so funny. Roony from New Zealand has good reviews but the dumb jokes are not funny. OldSkuleNerd knows a lot but 25 min videos is ridiculous. You ever been to a "channel flipper's" house? You hear something on TV and just as soon as you start listening, changes channels. That's how we feel when you pause the music but... You give us something in return. Not just make faces and go oohhhhh, you guys think he's the greates? Do I have any EES fans here? You know who I mean. He adds NOTHING.

Undeniably an exceptional talent and capability, but I cannot stand to watch his videos. Just too much. Takes more away from great music than what he adds
Oh man, I’m so tired about amazingly skilled players that struggle to compose good music. This dude is amazing but he or either his band hommies need to step up. Am I the only one feeling that is time to push for a balance between experimental and good composition?
@@DrumRollTonyReacts I meant about his new band and his music. I get the ideas to this song and I’m all about new sounds, but there is a fine line that a lot of people cross and that’s what I feel is making Rock to vanish little by little. @@mugz91 I might do it tho. I just bought a drum set and an electric guitar to my 4 and 7 years old kids so it might take me a little. But definitely going to try some jams soon. Let’s rock y’all!

Sheeeeesssshhhh!!!!
Which video of his should we check out next??
Yes.
Through the Fire and Flames.

his band is awesome. his true musicianship shows in their music.

Shots fired at Joshua Crawford, who literally just sits there and watches a video and makes a couple expressions. 😂 I *LOVE* how you break these down!

🔥1000%
I've seen him say this is one of his favorite songs to cover. And I pretty sure that this is the second time that he's covered this song on RUclips
