It’s interesting, Black’s style I mean. Yes the voice isn’t your typical style, but there is evidence of training and traditional singing style, mixed with Black’s iconic energy. The sound isn’t for everyone, but it is SO COOL!
FYI, Jack Black has been singing since the 90s if not earlier in his band Tenacious D. Probably why you can hear that he can actually sing.!

Jack's great when he lets go completely. Though there's actually a number of non-goofy songs where he absolutely shined as well. Check out his song from the video game "Psychonauts 2: Mote Of Light", "Love Lifted Me" from the soundtrack of Bernie, and Tenacious D's acoustic version of "Wicked Game".

I saw this in theater's, started choking on my popcorn, then started laughing so goddamn loud, everyone else started laughing, and we missed the whole next 4 minutes
Edit: to all of the haters in my comment section, I just need to clarify that there were 8 people in the theater. They were all my friends. Those that care so much, that they must tear apart a fun experience that I had with *my* friends. It was me my 7 friends, and it did happen. We did miss the next 4 minutes. It does sound pitched down, even in his high notes because his high note is so iconic it sounds a little different than usual
I know what you mean. However, Jack's voice has become lower during the last years, I've heard that timbre from him.

The "low" part of his vocal you are referring to is due to software pitching. The formants are trying to preserve his tone while its pitched causing a grainy texture to his voice in this video that isn't shown in the original song from the soundtrack.
I feel like he did some epic distortion and growling in some Tenacious D songs. His vocal technical ability is so impressive!

To anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, please do! It's honestly one of the most fun movie experiences ever. And the music! The whole soundtrack was amazing
The movie was literally so good!
Before I was thrown off by the voice actors from the trailer BUT I gave the movie a chance and it wasn't even that bad! I was in for the ride and it was fun! The animation is good too! The only problem I had was that the movie felt short and Peach's big head lol.
I dont know if you've watched belle before, but songs in that movie like 'Lend me your voice' and 'A Million Miles away' are masterpieces - wanted to see your reaction to it hahah

I know it’s kinda of a sad thought, but at the same time I’m really glad a lot of people through this movie are realizing how dang talented Jack is, and I’m happy to see him getting his roses because he deserves it. One of the most unique and talented singers that has entertained multiple generations. I hope he lives a long healthy life so we can keep seeing him give all he has to give in every song and role he’s in.

I went and saw this in theatres with my two best friends and there was a group of like 5 kids sitting in the same row a few chairs down who sung the entire song in theatres and the three of us were crying it was amazing.

I think the low notes have been modified to sound lower, I'm a big fan of Tenacious D and Jack Black in general and I'm pretty sure he can't reach that low haha.

The Tenacious D song Master Exploder starts with him going from super low to really high kinda like a slide if you wanna check it out.
That growl + distortion you did was polyphonic. I don't know if you noticed.
They used melodyne and lowered it down to give it a bowser effect but didn’t take time to make it sound clean. Although on the Movie they did a better job as lowered the pitch but kept it super clean.
