I'm gonna "umm actually" so hard right now. For the most part, yes, yes he does.
But actually, there is a one note difference from us getting rickrolled. This song is a [ IV-V-iii-vi ], but Never Gonna Give You Up is a [ ii7-V-iii-vi ] progression, which basically means the base note of the first chord in this song is a minor third up from the base note in Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up, so in theory, we are one note away from being rickrolled, effectively rickrolling us, but not actually.
Fun fact though, this song DOES have the same progression as Rick Astley's other number one hit single, Together Forever.

This guy has one of be best vocals in the world, but instead of using his musical talents seriously in pushing his musical career to the very top of the ladder (where I believe he belongs), he's like "No, that's against my nature" and he sings purely for entertainment and laughs. Definitely a funny and catchy song! It had me crying laughing in the theaters for sure! Bowser's piano in the movie says "Ludwig Von Koopa" like one of the Kooplings from the games, and a play on Beethoven, to answer your near end of video question lol

The piano says "Ludwig Von Koopa" on it. It is the name of one of Bowser's Koopalings, and they are all named after musicians, this one specifically was named after Beethoven

I think my favorite takeaway from this song existing is the fact that everyone is doing like a deep dive into Jack Black's personal band that he's had for decades at this point and so not only did Jack get to have fun making this song, but now people can discover either a taste of music they didn't have before or an appreciation for music they never would have heard otherwise, but I just really really enjoy the avenue that giving Jack Black specifically a song created, he nailed it as Bowser like I knew he would but the fact they Simped him up just added more to the song and they just did right by Jack and Bowser and just all of us, just everyone benefits from this, this was awesome

Jack Black is a tremendous musical talent but it's the comedy that he executes with such serious precision that gets me every time.
On a related note, I was just relistening to Old and Wise off of the Alan Parons Project album Eye in the Sky, and he uses that same exact device you discuss around 3:15. He couples it with a Picardy third to great effect. It's an elegantly simple tension/release cadence.

I think every second time in the verse the F minor 7 is changed to a F major. I learned it a few days ago right after I watched the movie. I was positively surprised that Jack Black sings it in the original, the song was translated to german - it was funny but not even close to the Jack Black version.
Love your content! Greetings from germany.

I love this song! The instrumental, alone seems pretty simple to play but with the chorus, it’s a whole different story. The scores in the entire movie are absolutely incredible and I highly recommend listening to them because they are so good!
Also, at 6:50, it says Ludwig von Koopa. His name is a reference to Beethoven, from what I can remember. That’s why his name is signed on the piano.
