Where's your album Jaron stop stalling or imma be stalking you about it. Lol. Tevin is killin. Now please do one on Phill Perry and the cartoon voice over he did on that theme song that sounds like spruce goose but I don't think that's the actual words but please do an analysis on Phill Perry on that
Good ole “One take Tevin”. Absolute underrated, underappreciated legend of RnB. I’m glad he’s still performing. The industry did him dirty. He deserved so much better.
Fun Fact: They originally wanted Prince to play the part of powerline, but clearly, clearly, Tevin Campbell was up to the challenge which explains the clothing of powerline and how it was supposed to be referenced to prince.
The white glove in the air at the beginning of the song was a reference to Michael Jackson. The performance itself and the style of singing was a reference to Bobby Brown's concert performance of My Prerogative. The outfit and hair style as well as going with the flow on stage are a reference to Prince.
I'm hoping they retheme Rock'N'Rollercoaster at Disney Hollywood Studios to Powerline instead of Aerosmith. We need this Powerline album to add more variety to that plan. Also a Powerline meet and greet, or even Max dressed as Powerline would be acceptable.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve developed more respect for how stupid hard some of these musicians go on kids show tunes. Another good example is SpongeBob, those movie soundtracks did NOT need to go that hard, but they did it anyway.

Tevin is right there shoulder to shoulder with guys like Jason Paige in terms of singers who went irrationally hard for the 90's kids. This performance is right there with the greatest movie tracks of all time.
What shocks me the most about Tevin Campbell is that this is such a diffrent style of music that what I was used to from him. It showed how amazing je is as a vocalist!
On the contrary they did , it relates to moive and da differences so much yall kn we had lol and i Wuz born in 85 💪🏾 this my moive behind lion king strong 💪🏾
At last, someone said who did the insane female voice in this song! I was looking for it for years. I didn't know it was Rosie Gaines! Thanks for that info!
That would be dope. And that he had some elements like max growing up.. that would actually make me cry, since Max idolized him, and had an epic moment on stage with the Powerline and his Dad ❤
One of the first times I’ve heard a vocal coach do every note, run, grit of a song and made me wanna hear them sing the song. You have so much talent. RESPECT!
This whole reaction made me smile so much! And this is also another reason why I miss classic Disney when they actually had singers and background singers doing the music throughout the film which in the end made killer soundtracks, this movie came out decades ago and it's still on my playlist today
Love how you pointed out tevin’s voice is very bright and forward. That’s hard to come by for a lot of male vocalists in the industry except for MJ there’s not too many. I hope Tevin sees your analysis too!
@tinaloye2014 A lot of people did assume that, unless they were already pretty familiar with Tevin Campbell in the early to mid 90s, which would have been around the age of the kids that this movie was targeted toward at the time, but even many of them thought it was MJ as well. There's probably a large number of people that still do, so you weren't alone.
That key change never fails to give me full body CHILLS years later. It’s so smooth and perfect, and even as an alto this is one of my favorite Disney songs to belt in the shower or in the car. Especially the RUNS, it’s impossible to resist giving your all singing along.
My sister and I have been in love with this movie since we were kids lol. And she LOVES this part lol. She will rewind it every chance she gets even now and we’re both nearing 40 lol. A classic song!
Almost 30 years later and I'm STILL jammin' to this banger on every play list almost daily. Tevin Campbell was one of the first vocalists I ever grew a respect for. The man is talented beyond words.
a bit unrelated from the singing analysis but I love the character of Powerline in the movie, yes he is essentially a plot device with not actual character behind him but he feels like an entertainer, he doesn't stop singing or make a big deal out of Goofy and Max hijacking his show, he just rolls with it and makes the best out of what happened, of course this is helped by Goofy and Max themselves being entertaining but powerline didn't call over security, he instead allowed them to stay because the fans loved it and he just wants to entertain
I wrote a mini-fanfic that used the dea that Powerline actually was George G Goof's childhood buddy, and the two of them got into the crazy shenanigans all the time, but they lost contact as they both grew up, and while Goofy doesn't recognise Powerline, he recognises Goofy, which is why he lets Goofy do his thing.
Crazy how quickly powerline was able to pick up the moves goofy was throwing out, not just a great singer but able to perfectly emulate moves after a single viewing
Rosie Gaines, Martha Wash are two of the best singers to ever grace this planet. It's a shame that their weight barred them from the heights they shoukd have attained.
I smiled like a fool through this whole video😂 I’ve loved this song and movie since childhood and this was so satisfying to watch. Thanks for doing this one!
Im 38 years old and I still listen to this song at least once a week on my drive in to town. Tevin Campbell has some incredible vocals. This breakdown was really enjoyable to watch. Subbed.
This was so fun and nostalgic. My inner child ('92) is so happy right now. Thank you for this analysis and I look forward to seeing more like this on the channel.
it's an absolute crime that there wasn't an extended version of this, my god. moving me to tears in 30 seconds flat, every time. Disney today could never. Your voice is also incredible, absolutely blown away right out the gate, I was not expecting that (not sure what I was expecting). And the way you describe the position of the vowel makes my little linguistic heart flutter. Thank you for posting this, and thank you algorithm for suggesting.
I really appreciate how he broke down every run. I'm no singer, but this guy is obviously very knowledgeable, and an incredible singer in his own right! Thank you for the video!
1:16 this is the first video of yours that I’m watching and I wanna say I visibly recoiled when you sung that. I was not ready for such amazing vocals and that was only for a few seconds. I am ready to proceed and have my mind blown.
Let's give some props to Rosie Gaines from Prince and the New Power Generation on background vocals doing all the growls and ad-libs. Also to Prince, who secretly wrote this song
This song is great and the movie is so good. From the opening “Stand Out” where we learn that Max feels invisible, to “I2I” where “Max is on the tu-ube! I know him!!!” 🥹 and he learns that his dad really cares and would do anything for Max’s dreams… and it turns out The Perfect Cast is a killer dance move! They end up seeing eye to eye. ♥️
I love that Tevin does all the adlibs and sings dueling vocals of different characters. That shocked me as an adult learning that the whole thing was alllll him.
He doesn't do all the adllibs by himself. Rosie Gaines was singing with him. Their back and forth towards the end of the song was great like they were pushing each other to take it there. They did their thing on this song
My favorite part of this was towards the end when him and the female singer were doing a call-and-response type of thing and Tevin was matching her note for note, same octave and everything.
The detailed analysis with your own vocal skills adding to this breakdown is incredible and very useful for understanding what techniques you're breaking down, very good video.
This song and Stand Out had no business being so good. Classics. Makes me wish Tevin was called to do more songs for Disney movies. His voice is phenomenally good.
Honestly didnt even know i needed this breakdown, what an amazing take on a wonderful memory. Thank you , definitely walked away with a much bigger appreciation of the artists involved here. Now I have some music homework to get on.
my maaaan! I'm crying tears of happiness!!! powerline was my very first voice crush, this is one of the very first songs I learned in english, and I am livin' hearing this analysis! so good. so so good, thanks! will you be doing the other powerline song? I hope you do. I hope you have a wonderful day
I absolutely LOVE that you did this video! Tevin is amazingggg. You’re my fave vocal coach on RUclips. I watch many but you combine knowledge and personality with your own absolutely gorgeous voice and I adore you!
I've listened to this song 1 million times since I was a kid. I always loved this song but I got chills with you breaking it down....it's like I loved the song and the you explained to me WHY i love it and didn't know.
hi jaron! this made me so happy to see this so nostalgic! i've been following you for awhile now and you are always amazing! you are my favorite vocal coach/analyzer because of your great energy, and you're really engaging the way you describe details, anatomy etc and LOVE LOVE LOVE that you sing examples. i appreciate the work you are doing, thanks for being inspiring 💖
I'm going to put my hand up. I was wrong. In the first 10 seconds, I judged a book by his regular voice. You can f***ing sing! Not that your talking voice is bad, just kind of unique and slightly nasally, but holy-cow do you know how to sing. Absolutely amazing voice and wonderful video 🙌
Thank you so much for highlighting Tevin right out of the gate (even if he IS belting) He made these songs, this movie. What a star. This (these) songs are evergreen, and it is not often you hear Tevin, and not Powerline!
This is a song that had no "business" going as hard as it does, but I'd never want to have it any other way.
They really had no right turning up this hard 😂😂😂😂
its exactly what it needs to be the 1990s did not play when it came to soundtracks and cartoon theme songs
It’s because it was produced by Prince’s producer at his studio
Where's your album Jaron stop stalling or imma be stalking you about it. Lol. Tevin is killin. Now please do one on Phill Perry and the cartoon voice over he did on that theme song that sounds like spruce goose but I don't think that's the actual words but please do an analysis on Phill Perry on that

Quite literally just finished watching this movie with my son. He's only 6 months old, but you're never too young for the Leaning Tower of Cheesa.
Lol you're a good parent ;) teach them the good stuff haha.
😂
I agree! 🙌🏽😅

You mean you was low-key watching 😂😂😂 I would watch it by myself and I'm 35
this song STILL goes hard!
I friggin' love Goofy Movie lol.

Yo how come this song never appeared in lip sync battle, its an automatic win
Always will
The fact that you are matching his notes hats off to you sir. You have a monster voice.
Yeah he was a mix of Bobby Brown and Prince with Michael Jackson. I2i was stylized that way from Prince
The white glove in the air at the beginning of the song was a reference to Michael Jackson. The performance itself and the style of singing was a reference to Bobby Brown's concert performance of My Prerogative. The outfit and hair style as well as going with the flow on stage are a reference to Prince.
They actually wanted Bobby brown
also there's a Tennis racquet called prince power line... lol
you can hear that in the melodic composition. It sounds like it was meant for Prince
Yassssss! I will forever love this song & im still waiting for Tevin Campbell to make a full power line album for the culture
We need a comeback tour movie. A Goofy Movie Reunion
You and me both!!! Literally a Powerline Concert and album!
That would be amazing he’s so gifted and talented and still just as full of life as he was when he first came out
I'm hoping they retheme Rock'N'Rollercoaster at Disney Hollywood Studios to Powerline instead of Aerosmith. We need this Powerline album to add more variety to that plan. Also a Powerline meet and greet, or even Max dressed as Powerline would be acceptable.
@@IWeaselWell, he's only 40 this year, so should be plenty of life left ;) He was only 18 when he sang these songs!
This is hands down my absolute favorite song from a Disney movie.
1. Hakuna Matata
2. This one
3. Don't care..
@@ElMidnightTigre it’s a great production. Keep in mind if this is #1 for me, songs From Hercules are #2… rather # 1.5 lol
Absolutely the best Disney song.
The music in this movie had no business being as good it was, it truly is iconic and memorable, and straight fire
Really; me too. 💘💞💖
Tevin did not have to go this hard for us kids but he did and I will always love him for it! This and Stand Out are legit FIRE!
As I’ve gotten older I’ve developed more respect for how stupid hard some of these musicians go on kids show tunes. Another good example is SpongeBob, those movie soundtracks did NOT need to go that hard, but they did it anyway.
Yeah, he didn’t just bring his A game, he brought his A+ or even S game.
And we are still singing it TODAY🤣🤣💯

Tevin and Rosie Gaines really did that 😮💨
At last, someone said who did the insane female voice in this song! I was looking for it for years. I didn't know it was Rosie Gaines! Thanks for that info!
YES!
And both of them were collaborators with Prince. You can actually see Tevin perform in GRAFFITI BRIDGE five years prior to A GOOFY MOVIE.
I always thought she had an Aretha vibe to her voice
I thought it was Marsha Wash so I appreciate you identifying the artist. Thanks!
The most impressive part of this sequence is that Powerline learned the "Perfect Cast" after only seeing it once. Got that dog in em.
And that he didn't have two randos who started busting up his set immediately removed from the building.
Even though we praising Tevin Campbell, your voice is immaculate
We don't deserve him
Omg this!
I wish I could sing like this
Powerline needed his own movie
That would be dope. And that he had some elements like max growing up.. that would actually make me cry, since Max idolized him, and had an epic moment on stage with the Powerline and his Dad ❤
I ABSOLUTELY second this!!!
A super hero
It should be a prequel film and it ends with the The Goofy Movie ending (a hybrid crossover).
I would have loved to experienced kingdom hearts entering into the world experiencing the power line concert etc
Tevin sung tf out this song it still slaps to this day
That 🎵"Yeeaaaaaah Yeeeaa-aaah!!!"🎵 in the beginning is like a roll call. Lololol. Yes and yes!

Rosie Gaines (one of Princes most brilliant musical partners) also sang on this

Yes! I loved her on Diamonds and Pearls
They animate her for a few seconds during the last high note.
You can definitely hear the Prince influence
I think Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced it, right? Love Prince 😢❤
