Putin was very happy and lavishly subsidized the creators. The creators were also pleased and decided to plow on with further production of the game. The problem was that the Russian public really wanted to see a Russian game about how Russians bravely fought the Polish occupiers, and they didn't let the creators get away with the money. So they finished the game just enough so that someone couldn't say they took money for nothing. P.S.. For those who wonder why I called the game pseudo-historical I already explain. According to Putin's propaganda, after the death of Grand Duke Ivan the Terrible (the founder of Russian imperialism), an interregnum prevailed in the Principality of Moscow, leading to many years of civil war. This was taken advantage of by the evil Poles, who first wanted to install the usurper on the throne, and when that failed, they seized Moscow themselves. However, the Muscovites fought valiantly against the occupiers and eventually exiled the Poles regaining their independence. In fact, the Russian Civil War was exploited by Ukrainian magnate Adam Korybut Wisniowiecki, after one of his servants tried to lie to him that he was the miraculously surviving son of Ivan the Terrible. Adam decided to show his servant to his acquaintances at the Moscow court, who personally knew Ivan the Terrible and his son. They confirmed that he was not Ivan's son, but actually resembled him and imitated him perfectly. So together they hatched a conspiracy to install the servant on the throne, in return the servant would enable his patrons to expand their political and economic influence. However, a handful of Ukrainian and Russian nobles were too few to carry out such a plan. So they went to the court of Poland before King Sigismund III Vasa himself. Sigismund was not Polish, but Swedish, and refused to help in the plot, as did the rest of the Polish and Lithuanian nobility. The exception was one minor Polish nobleman, who was willing to marry his daughter to the usurper for his assistance. The conspiracy was also supported by the Franciscan Order, who wanted the right to spread Catholicism within the Muscovite state in exchange for financial assistance. The usurper (Dimirta) was supported by many Russian nobles, and they seated the usurper on the throne in Moscow. Everyone knew about it was usurpator. However, it did not matter. In the history of Russia and Russia, many times the throne was taken by people born of the treachery of the ruler's wife, as genetic studies confirmed a few years ago. Dimirta was liked by everyone because he refused to fulfill his obligations to his patrons in the west. He turned out to be a patriot and looked after the interests of his people. However, the problem arose when he began to reform the court (and later wanted to reform the state). Western behavior, such as wearing velvet clothes, shaving the beard, taking daily baths, eating with cutlery, and liberalizing the law, proved too subversive for the Russians and they decided to get rid of the ruler who “introduces Polish customs.” After this, another civil war began, and several attempts were made to settle more “surviving sons of Ivan the Terrible.” This time the Russians and Ukrainians were joined by Belarusians (Lithuanians). The Russian civil war turned into a great war between the Ruthenian nobility from three different kingdoms (four if you count the Novgorod Republic, which was conquered by Moscow). At the time, Ukraine (Ruthenia) and Belarus (the Grand Duchy of Lithuania) formed a union with the Kingdom of Poland and the Kingdom of Sweden, so the King of Poland, who was Sigismund III Vasa, finally had to intervene, since the war was reducing the state's income. He assembled an army consisting of, starting with the most numerous nationalities: Ukrainians (Ruthenians) Lithuanians (Belorussians), Poles, Cossacks, Swedes, Russians, Germans and Lithuanians (Samogitians). His troops reached Moscow, which was all made of wood, so it burned down (Sigismund's army claimed that the Muscovites themselves set the city on fire intentionally, or unintentionally. Muscovites to this day believe that it was done by the aggressor's troops. We will never know the truth again). Only the brick castle (Kremlin) survived. This one was besieged for 2 weeks, after which.....Russians themselves let the aggressor's troops in, because they made a deal with Sigismund III Vasa. The capture of Moscow and the castle never happened. How did they get along with Sigismund? Sigismund said he was a Swede just like Ruryk (founder of the state of Rus). In addition, he was King of the Polish-Lithuanian-Swedish Union ruling a huge state covering almost the entire Baltic Sea. He agreed that he would still accept the Duchy of Moscow into the Union, creating the most powerful state in Europe. Moscow would become the capital, and the immediate ruler of Moscow would be his son, who would adopt Orthodoxy. It later turned out that Sigismund wanted to take the Moscow throne himself and rule the entire Union from Krakow. He also did not want to change his religion. One of the Russian nobles who helped besiege Moscow gathered the commoners and together they blockaded the Moscow castle, blocking food supplies. Sigismund's governors in office there, along with a small army, eventually agreed to leave Moscow. A new Romanov dynasty took power in the country, forcibly introducing Western reforms that the first usurper had been unable to introduce. The Romanovs brought Russia out of the Middle Ages, introducing first the Polish pattern of civilization and then the German, which was more developed than the Polish. It was the Romans who transformed the Grand Duchy of Moscow into the Russian Empire. They gained huge colonies in Europe, Asia and even North America. What Putin believes, for the greatest tragedy in the history of Russia (just after the disintegration of the USSR) in fact was the beginning of the Russian Empire and its power. It's a great story, but in Putin's Russia hardly anyone knows the truth and instead of celebrating the great reforms of the Russian state, they celebrate that 500 years ago they were trampled by the Poles.... which never happened, ,but thanks to this Putin's propaganda can show Russians who is their historical third enemy right after Ukraine and the USA. :)
So they released an unfinished game basically. The parts that worked looked really cool. So is it really the full game or a demo, cause I haven't seen any full walkthroughs at all on youtube.
They had a budget of like 5 million whilst CDPR had like 50 so hardly comparable, but CDPR achieved such budget by releasing translated games as a publisher, then making pretty messy Witcher 1, then very good Witcher 2, then AMAZING Witcher 3. They didn't just appear out of nowhere and begged for government money... and even tho both countries on paper are capitalistic, I swear Russia is still stuck in its Soviet era to this day... (BTW don't get me wrong, CDPR did get support from Polish government but only when they were a proven publisher and gamemaker, and that makes... a world of a difference)

Gothic 1 & 2 are better than most games of that kind, yea they are buggy as hell but have great story, characters, world and ideas. Its better than TES V Skyrim, especialy that Skyrim is great game only with mods, couse community achieve more than devs in term of combat, visuals, story, enemies and all other aspects. Gothic inspired such games like Witcher 3 so depicted it as some kind of trash is insulting and just stupid.
The devs have only said that Witcher's battle system sucks and Smuta won't be like that, which became a meme. And their lead was previously only developing for Alawar studio (specialised on veeeeery low-budget and relatively simple games) But there, seems to me, was a government's tender(or how it's called in English. Like auction, but you name the lowest reward and do the task) on making a video game. They've got around $5mln, plus around the same on PR, and lacked _any_ practical understanding on how to spend these money For example, they promised to make their own engine (only to use Unreal and stock 3d models). And for PR, used Radio Tapok (yes, Russian Sabaton. Very good choice), some TV personalities... And a literal "game streaming" camwh0re. Yeah.
It makes you laugh because you don't know the history of vodka. Vodka was created precisely as a medicine and is still used today for health purposes. Let's start the name itself. Wódka in Polish literally means small water. This word was used in the Middle Ages to describe the rocky outlets of mineral waters . It was believed that the water from such streams has medicinal properties (it is still believed so today), so over time vodka began to be called medicinal elixirs. Among them was “booze”, which over time took the name “vodka” just for itself. Vodka came to Russia precisely during the events shown in the game, but it was only in the decades following that it was popularized in the country. P.S. You may be wondering what vodka can cure. It is an alcohol, so it has disinfecting properties. By soaking your feet in it, you can get rid of ringworm. By washing your head in it, you can get rid of dandruff. By knocking your teeth in it, you disinfect your mouth. You can clean wounds with it, and by mixing it with pepper and honey you can cure colds and sore throats.
To be fair, The Witcher 3 had 10 times bigger budget than this game. And even if you do not like the Russians you should compare games of the same budget size, otherwise it's just an unfair comparison. Also this Smuta game has just appeared, and probably still needs a lot of work, while The Witcher 3 is out long ago and is considered as well polished. Also even though I personally like the Witcher 3 very much, and I played it through 2 times, it's far from perfect when it comes to gameplay and graphics, it had some graphic bugs even in the final version. I did not played the Smuta yet, and maybe it is a bad game, but here is just to much anti Russian bias for me.

Have you seen Cyberpunk 2077 when it was released in 2020? The game was a mess. Now ofc, it turned out to be good because of constant updates. And it was made by polish game devs as well. With Smuta, but if they do constant updates & fixes (and don't abandon it). The game will eventually turn out to be good. Though, it is getting annoying having titles being released unfinished, broken and unplayable. No matter what country the game comes from.

Cyberpunk, or any other game from CDPR had an interesting gameplay, plot and open world from the beginning, the only problem of their games is bugs, but Smuta have ONLY bugs, there is no interesting story, gameplay or open world. Smuta are a failure. Although not complete, the game is terrible, both the dialogue scenes between the characters, the optimization, the gameplay, etc. How did you get this game? It’s only sold on VK Play for rubles. In general, Russian developers have plenty of good games - Black Book, Beholder, Atomic Heart, and I'm sure there are more. Greetings from Russia!
Don't forget Pathologic, it's a masterpiece. I'm guessing the russian government is trying to boost its domestic industries due to the economic decoupling from the west, so they tried to rush the development of a AAA game but failed from mismanagement.
@@ChuckPalomo Yes, Russian developers also want to make AAA games, but so far only Atomic Heart has turned out like this. But they have enough good indie games
@@snappi139 It's weird cause I remember a huge controversy over Atomic Heart and how it was probably a scam run by gangsters. It was a surprize when it not only came out but was pretty good too. I really hope Russians manage to grow their industry.
You just didn't list good Russian games , but maybe in Russia they have a cult status :) I like: Arcanum, Heroes V, Age of pirates, Age of Sail 2, Alien Shooter, I am a dragon (it was a very bad game, but it is a memory from my childhood), Crossout, War thunder, Loop hero and snow runner. You can find the full list on Wikipedia. Russians make mostly fantasy games, especially classic RPGs, si-fi with robots and aliens, racing and puzzle games. However, by far the dominant theme in Russian games is war. Usually World War II, less often modern war. Russians have created a great many games about military aviation and surprisingly many about Caribbean pirates. If I were to create an ideal game for the Russians based on this, it would be a fantasy game set in World War II, where you can fly a plane, drive a tank, or a big killer truck. There would be references to sex and to the USSR everywhere. Accompanying us would be boob women, even if they weren't human. , In a break from gutting enemies we would relax with puzzles :D I don't know yet how I would throw pirates in there, but they would also have to be in this game. P.S. If you thought of Warhummer 40,000, the games in that series the Russians also made. ;)
@@orkako That's right, I didn't mention a lot of games, because I just didn't know that they were made by Russians. If you want to make a game for Russians, then my advice to you: you shouldn’t overdo it about sex, but it’s worth adding some jokes. There is no point in mentioning the USSR if you do not want to create Atomic Heart 2, because the USSR appears there exclusively as a setting. You can make some references, for example, wood stoves in houses, people doing housework, etc. Make either a village atmosphere with Russian mythology (like the Witcher), or a dark atmosphere, in the entrances of multi-storey buildings there are dicks on the walls, like in Metro Exodus, and decorate with obscenities :D
Both games are RPGs and you didn't even compare the voice acting or dialogue camera. This is a strong point for the witcher too. But what games are we comparing anyway, on of the most important games of 2010s with a cheap Russian government sponsored unreal engine propaganda game ? 😂
Looks is the best way to describe it. Imagine playing Assassins Creed but only the fetch quests on the same small map over and over and over and over again. It's horrifically boring. Had potential, the setting is AMAZINGLY interesting... but it's TERRIBLY boring.
I've heard that it is anti-Polish. But I really want to play good games. It doesn't matter that they are Russian... That's why I'm asking if this title is worth recommending? Players from all over the world are a completely different target audience. A good example is the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. You can really see the heart and soul of the developers in it, and I'm eagerly awaiting the second part...

Smuta is such a trash. Smuta is comparable with old Gothic game and gothic wins
Gothic had less bugs.
That comparison is downright insulting to Gothic.
@@huberttarnowski4980 Agreed. However, Gothic 3 is also a great game.
Smuta has the realistic animation but its unfinished
I would say Smuta is already on par with big developers like Bethesda. Only difference is one deserves the budget
The devs have only said that Witcher's battle system sucks and Smuta won't be like that, which became a meme.
And their lead was previously only developing for Alawar studio (specialised on veeeeery low-budget and relatively simple games)
But there, seems to me, was a government's tender(or how it's called in English. Like auction, but you name the lowest reward and do the task) on making a video game.
They've got around $5mln, plus around the same on PR, and lacked _any_ practical understanding on how to spend these money
For example, they promised to make their own engine (only to use Unreal and stock 3d models).
And for PR, used Radio Tapok (yes, Russian Sabaton. Very good choice), some TV personalities... And a literal "game streaming" camwh0re. Yeah.

2:33 healing Vodka😂 hahaha

Make either a village atmosphere with Russian mythology (like the Witcher), or a dark atmosphere, in the entrances of multi-storey buildings there are dicks on the walls, like in Metro Exodus, and decorate with obscenities :D
i think smuta need more time to develope
At least a main hero ca drink vodka, so he won t see 720 p textures.
Both games are RPGs and you didn't even compare the voice acting or dialogue camera. This is a strong point for the witcher too. But what games are we comparing anyway, on of the most important games of 2010s with a cheap Russian government sponsored unreal engine propaganda game ? 😂

As a Russian, Smuta is just a trash. Better play to Assassin than that. Or indie game like Disco Elysium (masterpiece for me).
Is Smuta available on xbox? Looks interesting..

interesting? why
Trust me bro there are way better story games that you’ve still haven’t tried yet
