  • A few years ago I looked at a Joker Machine built rigid with an STD Panhead engine. It was a great running bike but for the price I wanted something a bit closer to what I would have built. So I passed and kicked myself ever since because I liked that engine so much.
A few weeks after it sold I started hunting for a set of STD cases and their Panheads with modified Shovel type porting. Turns out their not all that easy to come by anymore. It's taken me the better part of 3 years to locate these. With them finally in hand thoughts have moved to cams, an awesome crank and rods, billet barrels and a covers.
Stay tuned this is going to be a fun build.

Hello I have just come across your video, I have one of this motors and like yourself I cherish it, back when I was a young man man I read about these motors and the history of them in a Supercycle magazine, I never thought that years down the track a would get one! I live in Queensland Australia so this makes it even more special to me some brought this across from the States, how did the build go Mark

I'm running Delkron shovelhead cases, Axtell 3-13/16th bore cylinders and high compression pistons, 4.5 stroke, std conversion panheads for the shovel bottom end. Unsure on the cam at the moment but its 110+hp and nitrous ready.

I always loved your ability from the porsche to the bikes and wanted to see how this build is coming along. Are you still doing bikes?

I appreciate the sentiment, that is very kind of you to take the time to say so.
I am doing a few bikes right now, the 6 speed Baker box into a 58 pan, the Craigslist's Ironhead is still giving me headaches but it is close to starting; I feel I want to make changes to the frame though. The Harman is with Bill Holland for a few small details and the 120r is really being difficult to find some to convert the rigid from lsd to rsd. So I guess there's a few bikes I'm still messin with; oh almost forgot that purple pan/Shovel chopper (my leg hates me when I kick that ol girl)

@@ProjectsMB Thanks for taking the time to write. You really have an excellent way of critical thinking and mechanical aptitude applicable across the board. I appreciate the time it takes to film and edit and you put out quality stuff. I'll go look for more on baker/Pan install. I've flirted with installing their N1 but the price got me so I stayed original. Thanks again!

I have a similar engine. It used S&S 3 5/8" bore cylinders. Never could get it to run. I am told it needs a NLA cam designed to work with the flat side gearcase, and the STD heads which look like panheads but are also like shovel heads but uses an EVO valvetrain. The EVO style cam for that bottom end is what it needs. The whole setup is a one off monstrosity. Did you ever get yours to run?

Hello. I am fixing my STD pan, and surprisely the case do not fit properly the gear cover gaskets, I tried all brands, and now I am cutting an specific one. Did you have the same problem? thank you.

@ricardopetriccione2844 I seem to always have bushing alignment issues with Pans but this one came eith a side cover that STD had already mated to these cases so no I did not have that issue on these cases but yes swapping cam side case covers is iffy at best

I was curious if you have started on this project yet? I have been looking for a set of cases and heads like these - would love to know if these end up on the chopping block for sale/trade.

I have not gotten much further on this project. I spent a lot on the heads and doubt it would be a reasonable/justifiable option for your build. But you're welcome to make an offer.

@davidraimondi629 I am not receiving your contact info. But just to give you an idea of where you'd need to be, so we don't waste eachothers time I paid in excess of $6,500 for the complete heads and I don't remember what I paid for the cases. I won't take a loss on them, I'd still like to build this engine just haven't had the time

@@ProjectsMB that’s a bit more than what I thought I’d hear. I have a very similar set with the exception of them having the 3 stud shovelhead style exhaust flanges. I have the cases already - NOS set from 2007. Sounds like I’m going to need to get used to the exhaust flanges on my set 😂
I hope to see your build on here sometime in the near future and get to see what you do with yours. I’m still trying to figure out which rotating assembly to go with etc.
