Shirley Booth was an awesome actress, as her awards suggest. The Hazel role was a nice one for her to take after so many years of more classical acting. She made Hazel so real, and it was a favorite of mine growing up.
The magazine was The Saturday EVENING Post. Bobby Buntrock was there there for the entire run. He and Shirley Booth were the only two cast members who saw it to the end.
Unfortunately the other cast members had obligations by the time the last season was up and running I also missed the originals but I watched the last season because I love Hazel, Shirley Booth was the one that funded everything for the last season she believed in the show.
It still makes me sick to think about how Bobby Buntrock died so tragically young. Lord knows what he would've gone on to accomplish had he not driven onto that damaged bridge on that fateful day. R.I.P. Bobby.
My grandmother took care of Shirley Booth in her autumn years. My mother did a little too. We would play in their yard on some occasions when we tagged along. She was very nice and would give us each a piece of candy. She left her cat to my Nana. This was in Chatham mass.

Shirley Booth was born in 1898. I was born in 1953 and had several family members born in the 19th century. One no longer runs into the 19th people any more.
Cinsidering that 1900 is 122 years ago, it's highly unlikely that anyone born in the 1800's is still living. (My grandparents were born in 1895, 1893 and 1890.)
The last known Civil War veteran died in 1948. I always thought how cool it was that if I had been born three years earlier than my actual year, 1951, I would actually have been a contemporary of the Civil War soldiers that we associate mainly with history books and war memorials.
Shirley Booth had a lot of power in the direction of "Hazel". She was deserving of the Oscar she won in 1952 "Come Back Little Sheba". I loved her in Hazel, and "Come Back..." is a great old movie. A life well lived, I'd say.
I always loved this series and still do. I was born August 30th, just like Shirley Booth. It's still sad that Bobby Buntrock passed at only 21. Thankful we still have some of the cast surviving. Thank you for covering this.

We children would watch this tv series when summer school was out in the 60's. My mother's song sung by Tommy Roe -"Hooray For Hazel" and "Dizzy" where he favorites and passed onto her children of four.
I liked "Hazel" during it's initial run, but whenever it changed networks, the show was ruined whenever George Baxter and his wife suddenly moved to Iraq, leaving their son to live with his brother Steve and Barbara Baxter. The child actors were ran out of the room in virtually every episode, because their adult conversations never concerned the kids. I did not like Ray Fulmer at all as Steve Baxter. JMO

You did leave out to recurring characters: Mr. Harvey Griffin, one of George Baxter's clients and a friend to Hazel, played by Howard Smith and the character of Deirdre Thompson, George and Steve Baxter's pompous, domineering sister, as played by Cathy Lewis. They added greatly to the show. It was the first series I saw in color (in Nov. 1964) after my parents bought our first color television.
I saw Ann Jillian in an Atlanta 7/4 Parade in 90’s she was gorgeous. I read Whitney Houston was named for WB. All of Shirley Booth’s movies I recall were really depressing; she did have good male leads in each.
Like Sean Connery and Bond, Shirley was the best and first Hazel…. I like her portrayal of Hazel…. I watched the reruns and wondered why the family changed? Anyway, it was a classic tv show
Maude Prickett also played some memorable episodes in the later seasons of Bewitched as Tabitha's cranky kindergarten teacher! Bobby Buntrock was also in the Rock em Sock em Robots commercial! Julia Benjamin, who played Harold's cousin Susie Baxter on the final season is also still alive.

I especially liked the last opening scene sequence where all the family members refuse umbrellas from hazel...then next sequence they show Hazel running manic through the rain!!! Ann Jillian also played Rosie's niece Laurie in 1963 where she had that lamb she was raising and there was a freeze coming up from the north and the farmers cut their wool and they had to have sweaters to keep them warm.

While I was watching this video the guy that talked about Maudie Prickett he said the she was married to Charles Fillmore Picket. They stayed together from 1901 to 1954 & had 2 children. How could this be when Maudie Picket was born on October 25-1911. This is lady wasn't even born yet but she got married 11 years before she was born.????????????????? SAY WHAT!

I love Hazel and own the entire series although the last season without Mr. B wasn't near as good but the movie, "Come Back Little Sheba" was the most boring movie I've ever seen.
I couldn't disagree more. Her performance in the film Come Back, Little Sheba is one of the greatest performances of any actor male or female ever to be captured on film. I thought it was absolutely magnificent. Of all the Oscars given out over 90 years for acting Shirley Booth's role in Little Sheba is my pick for No.#1.
I didn't watch it a whole lot of Hazel because Shirley Booths voice was like fingernails on a black.board. I could even get through a year without Santa Clause because of her voice. I noticed that Whitney Blake missed 4 episodes in the 1963-1964 season. Was she doing a movie or was ill at this time? Also Don DeFore was in every episode of Hazel until the end of the 1964-1965 season.
I never watched the show when it was new. I don't know why? But I did start watching a few years ago on Antenna TV. The shows not bad. I believe I seen every episode. I really disliked when they changed the cast. It was horrible. I'm surprised it lasted One season! Hooray for Hazel! 🤗🤗
I'm a Hazel fanatic. lol BUT ... not of the last season. There was no reason for a cast shakeup. Mr. DeFore & Miss Blake found out that they'd been replaced by reading it in, I believe, Variety. Mr. Fulmer and Miss Borden were not my idea of a Hazel Family. Simply, my humble opinion.

Charles Bateman was born November 18, 1930 and played neighbor Fred Williams in season 5. Age 91. Still alive.
His mother was 100+ when she died.

Bobby Buntrock appeared in all 5 seasons of Hazel. He and Hazel were in that awful 5 seasons

I didn't watch it a whole lot of Hazel because Shirley Booths voice was like fingernails on a black.board. I could even get through a year without Santa Clause because of her voice. But in that case it was her voice and the stupid storyline I could deal.with it. I ended up regifting it. It was a shame Bobby Butrock died so early in life.. Just saying. Have a great day everyone

I noticed that Whitney Blake missed 4 episodes in the 1963-1964 season. Was she doing a movie or was ill at this time? Also Don DeFore was in every episode of Hazel until the end of the 1964-1965 season.

Whitney Blake was in a contract dispute with NBC, the network where the first four season of "Hazel" aired.
The divers who recovered Bobby's Body said that there were signs that he was trying to get out of the car when he drowned. 😢

I never watched the show when it was new. I don't know why? But I did start watching a few years ago on Antenna TV. The shows not bad.
I believe I seen every episode. I really disliked when they changed the cast. It was horrible. I'm surprised it lasted One season!

I liked seeing Pat O`brian on the show.
I'm a Hazel fanatic. lol BUT ... not of the last season. There was no reason for a cast shakeup. Mr. DeFore & Miss Blake found out that they'd been replaced by reading it in, I believe, Variety. Mr. Fulmer and Miss Borden were not my idea of a Hazel Family. Simply, my humble opinion.
