She was 73 years old here and still a Firecracker!!
I have been binge watching Hazel for the sheer feel good of the sitcom. In this day and age of doom and gloom, Shirely Booth as Hazel take me back to a world I want to be part of. I wish Hazel lived next door.....I love her
I'm doing that for the past week.
Hazel is a feel good show. it brings back a innocent time in America History. I was a small boy and was free and safe no matter where I went. The one who played the boy is two and a half years older me. There wasn't bad people who would hurt you. My mother's biggest fear is I might not look both ways before crossing the street. R.I.P We will always miss you.
Binge watching Hazel is the best way to lift yourself up! Sure wish there were more than 6 seasons!
My sentiments exactly! She was just simply WONDERFUL! Highly intelligent woman.
@@jmn1209YESSSSSSS ❤❤❤❤
She was the real deal. Nothing pretentious about her and a natural comedian. RIP Shirley.
When did she pass????😢
She was really funny!
@@mistyvioletconservative.3889 October 16, 1992. She was 94.
She only made 5 movies and won the Oscar right out of the box!
Mark Silverman and she earned that little guy. She was marvelous
She preferred the stage.
Her performance in Come Back Little Sheba will break your heart. She’s phenomenal.
Oh yes. Thank you for reminding me of that memorable tear-jerker.
Yes, I recently found it on RUclips and I watch it almost every day and cry with endearment come back. She would just melts my heart. Thank you for your comment on this wonderful movie. Blessings.
Totally agree. My favorite performance of all time
Ms Booth’s performance in “Come Back Little Sheba” was outstanding.......
Hey
Absolutely!
I'm visiting my son and family and was watching an episode of Hazel yesterday morning before anyone besides myself was up. When the rest of the crowd got up, we ended up watching several episodes.
They really enjoyed watching. I believe they'll watch again, I know I will. Shirley Booth is a classy lady.
I just LOVE this! Shirley Booth was one of the most talented, intelligent and elegant actress that every graced the stage, t.v., and movies.
I just love Shirley Booth. I watch 2 episodes of Hazel every day and I always watch Come home little Sheba when its on.
Me too! On fetv also come back little sheba is on youtube free!
It is Come Back Little Sheeba
Who the hek is hazel?
Shirley Booth starred in a 60's error sitcom called Hazel. It was a great show. Shirley Booth fans will agree.
Many A list stars of the time tried to convince her not to do Television.
I'm glad she did. You can watch Hazel on Roku.
I
Come Back Little Sheba is such a good movie 🍿.
Shirley Booth has such an amazing voice. Unforgettable..
She did but reminds me of Jean Van Der Pyl as Wilma Flintstone and also did commercials and other cartoon voices. I think many voice actors of the times were natural sounding.
Such a kind, loving and gracious lady....she loved her cast members, Don DeFore & Whitney Blake, on "Hazel" and she had a special bond with little Harold (Bobby Buntrock) on the set as she never had children of her own. The chemistry on that show was undeniable. I love Shirley Booth!
I just found out Whitney Blake is Meredith Baxter Barney's mother. The mom on the sitcom Family Ties.
Can’t believe decided to watch this interview with Shirley Booth and Dick Cavett @12:31 AM August 30, only to learn from Shirley that today, August 30, is her birthday. Very moved to hear this and remembered her in prayer. Great actress and human being. RIP. Gone but never forgotten.
She was such a doll. I grew up watching her on Hazel. And she was so genuine. RIP Shirley.
RIP??? She's been dead 27 years
So? Is there an expiration date on respect?
@@lookmanoclothes9829 I'm sorry has saying Rest In Peace expired...lol. Not trending anymore. Hmmm?
She has a captivating and delightful personality
I love Hazel. Her voice is so full of joy, peacefulness and happiness.
I grew up watching “Hazel” and loved Ms.Booth in that role. I found out a few years ago that Shirley was buried in the cemetery directly adjacent to our family cemetery next door. I have gone to and payed my respects at her grave a few times over the years here in New Jersey.
robbibubnj my grandmother was a lot like Hazel in looks and mannerisms. I love watching the old reruns.
Aw, then I know she and the show has an extra warm spot in your heart.
I've kind of rediscovered Hazel, its on Me TV or one of those oldies channels
I wanted to do the same. Wasn't sure if the public was allowed to do so. Thanks for posting.
that is a lovely act. god bless.
One of the true greats. Proof: She'll steal your heart in "Come Home Little Sheeba"
Charles Price...
I so agree.
She was great in that movie.
The other one was
"Hot Spell"
It also tears at your heart strings.
She really was a great actress.
I could not agree more ! Her performance in "Come Back Little Sheba" is one of the greatest performances ever put on film ! She won a well deserved Oscar !!
How right you are !!
Charles Price I’ll be watching that tonight.
Lady's and Gentleman, she was one of a kind. If you only knew. Thank you
She was the best
I have a notion to second that emotion !! :-)
@@glynroyston5849 So true !! :-)
Just a great actress. Wonderful woman.
I learned "pellisse" and the drink Virginia Dare .... Shirley Booth is a treasure. I knew she was an interesting actress but I didn't know she would be a wonderful guest on a talk show. Just think if she had a good host to converse with instead of Dick Cavett. But this interview is worth listening to many times over. It seems that the audience finally got into the groove with Miss Booth and started to listen to her instead of Mr. Cavett. Thank you, Miss Booth ... we are listening to you now these many years later.
I adore Shirley Booth! 💖
Miss Booth gave a great performance in Come Back Little Sheba. Her and Burt Lancaster, wonderful.
I miss them both.
Must have been marvelous to have her as a friend
A grand lady....the voice you'll always remember. "Mr. B! , Mr. B!!!!" and "Come Back Little Sheba" - so deserving. Love how she says in this clip "on the Cape" my dad always used that phrase in the 60s and 70s describing Cape Code. Great memories.
She was heart breaking in Come back, Little Sheba. You have to cry.
Shirley Booth, academy award winner who thankfully overcame the Hollywood need to be young and beautiful to fit in. I hope she appreciated her Hazel character as many as me enjoy it so.
Hey
In the interview she said she was thankful for the role. Did not badmouth the role. It is toward the beginning.
Such a lovely woman, and great actress❣️❣️❣️❣️
One of the best actresses that ever was on film! Would have loved to have had a chat with her. So intellectual, down to earth. We are truly lucky to have had her in the legendary ranks of Hollywood Stars.
She was very special person with a very high likability factor. Hazel reruns cheer me up when im feeling sad. And the oscar for come back little sheba was well deserved. Its on youtube and its free (for now).
I agree with you. It's raining here and I have Hazel on.
Hi
She does cheer you up. Her natural likeability. I hadn't seen her since high school. She comes on every morning. I'm 66 years old now and enjoying liking her all over again. Cheers me up every time
100% The good old days..."on the Cape". Charming woman
Loved the motherly character of Hazel. May she RIP.
I adored Hazel as a very young child. Yes, it is flawed and subject to critical analysis but the emotional attachment many of us feel is sweetly nostalgic.
I didn’t realize how good she was until I saw her talk in real life. Her voice in her films and TV shows were so different.
I Met her in 1970 in New York after her Broadway Show, She was soooo Nice
Lucky you:)
Kool I want to meet Vicky Lawrence lol major fan of her in Lucille ball
I loved Hazel. I've never seen an interview with Shirley Booth. She's a hoot.
What a wonderful lady and a class act she was truly a beautiful legend that many young people of today could learn a great deal from !!!!!
My favorite role of hers was Mrs. Santa in the year without a Santa Claus
Actors of Ms Booth caliber are rare. Most actors today rely on graphics visual effects. The actor today doesn't require talent in the acting craft. Ms Booth and other brought the entire package to the screen.
She's so fabulous!
I just love her😊 she often had me in tears in Hazel because she protrayed her part so well
I loved her as Hazel ❤️ such an uplifting show they don't make shows like this anymore times have changed so much. makes me really sad☹️
During he acting career Shirley Booth won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, two Emmy Awards, and three Tony Awards.
People remember het only as Hazel yet she was one of our greatest stage actresses
I think it was Angela Lansbury that said, "To be remembered, you need to either make a film or be in a television series."
@@NJgateway Kaye Ballard had her character 's given name be her real name in "The mother's in law " TV series because when people saw her on the street they would then say" Hello, Kaye! " Instead of her TV name 😂 Shirley was called" Hazel "all over southern California!
She was fabulous in "Come Back Little Sheeba".
Yesss! I have that, but don't particulary like Burt Lancaster, but that's still a good movie.
She won the Oscar for Sheba and it was her first movie, she only made five films.
& hotspell.
Agreed ! My choice for the greatest female performance in the history of the movies. No matter how many times I watch it,that scene
where she opens the kitchen cupboard, looks up and realises the booze bottle has gone still makes me tremble. Her fear is palpable.
Beachy Keen; My Mom’s favorite movie.❤️
Shirley is one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood and Broadway history! She's one of only 23 actors and actresses who have ever won the Triple Crown of Acting: Oscar, Tony, and Emmy Awards! She and the cast of, "Hazel", were genuinely like a family and they had great chemistry...Don DeFore (one of my favorite actors), Whitney Blake, and Bobby Buntrock (sadly died in a car accident at the young age of 21 in South Dakota)….Shirley "adopted" Bobby on the set and was like a son to her as Shirley never had children of her own. For the last season, the show changed networks (NBC to CBS), DeFore and Blake were dropped and replaced due to contract disputes, and the show lost its magic during the '65-'66 season....Shirley said she was having some health issues and she made the decision to end the show, even though the network was wanting to renew it for a 6th season (I'd heard that she greatly missed working with DeFore and Blake and decided it on that reason). She was truly a classy, benevolent, gracious, and loving lady and I miss her!
Wow ❤thank you for all. That info!!!!!❤❤❤
I remember her,as Hazel.She is funny,and talented.
People think of her as Hazel, but she was one of the great stage actresses of all time in this country.
She would have been a great talk show host. She's so warm, funny, interesting and beautiful 😍
Great lady.Great interview. "I didn't get it,because I didn't pay the price" made me laugh very hard.Loved it. People of yesterday are/were so interesting compared to the talent less people of today.
Really? Meryl Streep isn't talentless, she was still better than her, Meryl, Robert DeNiro are legends and talented and still do movies. So meny extremely talented actors and actresses today. I didn't even know who the hell this lady was until today. Your gonna compare her talent with talent today...Really there are alot female actress way better than her and she was great but not that great, stop reaching.
AmeRicanItalian Israel totally agree
@@junegiovanni6475 To be fair, Meryl and De Niro are also talents of yesterday.

Hello Sally
One of my mom's favorite movies was Come Back ,Little Sheba . It was such a heart strings tugging film ❤️😢 She was magnificent in it
She is so intelligent and refined!
Here it is 2019 and I am enjoying the heck out of Hazel. I remember seeing her in “Come Back Little Sheba” with Burt Lancaster but was too young to appreciate it. Now I hope to see all of her five movies. What a gem she was!! I have to agree with the majority of comments. Mr.Cavett could have done a great deal better in his interview with such a talented and honorable lady. Thank goodness we can search and enjoy her history in the world of acting. Let’s remember her as she would prefer, not as just her part in Hazel, but as a serious dramatic actress.
Diane Gatto ..I dvr two episodes of Hazel every week day. Shirley was a treasure.

I saw Ms.Booth and Gig Young in "Harvey " at the Curran Theater in San Francisco. Still remember her WONDERFUL performance.

I' adored hazel @nd watched her every day of the week 4 ever more love anne roselli
I live in the UK, and have always been a fan of M/S Booth, since I saw here in, 'The Matchmaker'. To me, she played emotion like no other actor. She could touch you with a look, a word, a movement. Her Oscar was well deserved, and I thank God that Paramount had the good sense cast her in the film version. Because of, 'Hello, Dolly', the version of the original play, is unjustifiably overlooked,
So entertaining, on film and off. Rest in Peace
amazing actress. She was a real star.
One of the very first tv programs I remember watching in early reruns, Hazel.. She's always seemed like a familiar old friend.
I love Shirley Booth. Loved Hazel series ❤😊 she was a good actress❤😊
I love her in Hazel she makes my day!!
Wow ! Double wow ! Triple wow ! What a wonderful interview ! The late great Shirley Booth was one of the greatest actresses of all time ! What a sweetheart ! THANK YOU so much for uploading this video gem ! CHEERS !! :-)

Norm!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiya Jubal.
Shirley Booth was age 73 when this interview was taken.
Absolutely delightful interview featuring 2 American entertainment icons...Shirley Booth and Dick Cavett. Those were the days when folks like them were the people famous for TV and movies. Famous people are so different today...a certain magical charm is missing from modern day TV and movie stars.
Cavett is “an American entertainment icon”?…lol I guess he’d probably agree with you…lol
Isn’t it funny how one of America’s great stage legends is remembered today for a mediocre sitcom? She was terrific as Hazel, but this lady was the Meryl Streep/Kathy Bates/Judi Dench of her era. Nobody was better.
I always think Shelley Winters must've learned some things from Shirley Booth. Ms. Booth was special!!!
I think Hazel holds up. She is terrific and endearing.
Mediocre? Hazel was one of my favorite series
No, not mediocre.
She only made 4 films.... and yes, that damn sitcom ruined her rep.
Cavett was never a good talk show host. If you'll notice he is very self-centered, has to one-up or lightly humiliate his guest(s) and then, quickly apologize with an "I'm only kidding...". He wasn't, of course. Shirley Booth was one of our greatest actresses. Take a look at "Come Back, Little Sheba" and you'll remember her forever. She won the Oscar for that performance, and already had (3) Tony's in her belt. She earned "The Triple Crown" of acting awards when she added 3 Emmy's for Hazel.
I agree completely. He was an intellectual snob and an egghead.
What a charming lady!
I am 37 years old and just love ❤ watching this woman Hazel wow what an amazing character
Loved her in " Hazel "and in "About Mrs Leslie" with Robert Ryan. Awesome actress. Thank you for uploading!
Thank you for mentioning this film. She was wonderful in it.
She was so good in that underrated film "About Mrs Leslie" from the 50s ! I wish the movie was better known and more widely seen ! You obviously have xlnt taste !
@@jubalcalif9100 Thank you. My local PBS station would show it when I was a kid. It's so unusual and fab. And like you, I wish it was better known. I love both Shirley and Robert Ryan in that flim.
@@blessOTMA You're welcome ! For years this was was a hard to find movie. I saw it for the first time as a youngster in the 70s on local. Make a deep impression on me. Wasn't able to see it again until MANY years later (on TMC). Bob Ryan and Ms Booth are absolutely wonderful in their roles ! :-)
@@jubalcalif9100 yes, TMC is where I saw it in later years. I believe Bob Osborn had a fondness for the flim. Both Shirley and Ryan were\are underappreciated I think. But in that flim they hit it out of the park! And the subplots are interesting. Who knew teenagers were mouthy in the 50's!😂
I love watching the episodes of Hazel ❤❤❤
Omg she is so funny, love her face expressions. I first discovered her well watching Bewitched with my mom, she was on a episodes and she stole that whole scene and episode, I was drawned by her, I told mom that she was incredible women, she has the "IT" Factor and when she had a scene, everyone seems to disappear all around and she takes those scenes. I thought she was funny and had those funny face expressions that personality drew me to her, I knew she was special, so I decided to look her up on RUclips and what do you know she has done array of stuff in Hollywood. Extraordinary lady and actress. Talented beyond measures.
I'm watching my recorded show, Hazel right now, on channel 323 Fetv...i love the show...Shirley Booth was a marvelous actress...

Thank you! I have never seen Shirley Booth interviewed. She seemed like a fun person to hang around.
I like her so much and she looks great to be nearly 75 years old.
As I do when I take off hat, you make a good point !!
she was about 72-73 her birthday was in August , so depends what month this was filmed
She was born in 1898 so she was roughly 73 depending on the month this was filmed. This would correlate to someone born in 1947 in 2020. Hazel would be a “ baby boomer” if this was interview was filmed today in 2020.
@@califdad4 Shirley Booth looked about 48 in this interview
@@tomcarpenter700 she was born in 1898 and this was done in 1971so when you add it up she was about 73

Loveliest Lady ❤
What a sweet, articulate great actress.
Wonderful Shirley. Was so fortunate to find a copy on RUclips of the CBS 1966 presentation of Glass Menagerie. She was wonderful as Amanda.
Nothing better than "Hazel".....she was made for that part and she sure made you believe it.
Just saw come home little sheba awesome .but grew up with her as Hazel every day after school.
She's always lovely and fun, I adore her💜
The movie stars and actresses and actors of yesterday had publicist who didn't allow their personal lives to be on public display unless it was good news publicity for a project. They controlled what got out and didn't let everything hang out just to be relevant. It was about their work not about their popularity like it is now. Folks now are in entertainment and some do not have a talent or skill just fans and followers. Shirley Booth was a good actress and earned the accolades and awards. May she rest in peace having left a wonderful legacy of work we still enjoy.
Build trust in an art form then hijack it to influence the masses - protocols of zion/mindcontrol/msmliars/georgia guidestones/depopulation/depression/suicide. At least we are waking up to it now and we can reclaim control of our lives
I watched Hazel for the first time a month ago & I fell in love with the show!!!!! I watch it every day!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey
I never could get into Hazel but she's wonderful. I just saw her in the 1966 Glass Menagerie which in many ways can be considered "definitive", in my opinion. I'd love to have an opportunity to see her and Gig Young in Harvey!!
Shirley is sadly long gone ... but Hazel will live forever!
Thanks Shirley Booth. You are special and a great actress.
Love Hazel still watching re runs 2022
I have and will always love ms Shirley booth she was such an amazing person they don't make them like her anymore she was one of a kind r.i.p dear sweet lady
She always threw herself in any role she was given. She became the character she played and drew the audience in and kept them intrigued until the end. There has been no other like Shirley Booth.
My favorite role of hers is Mrs Leslie.... I wish TCM would show About Mrs Leslie more often; but, I watch Hazel reruns every day and I really love that show
I absolutely love Shirley.maj
Hazel is the only program I love to watch with cookies and coffee
Her performance in the movie HOT SPELL with Anthony Quinn, Shirley MCClaine, others is extraordinary! A master class that goes even deeper than her work in SHEBA. She's being dogged jy her husband (Quinn) fighting to hold on with everything. Brilliant performance. Underrated. She really was a great actress. 🤩💜🤩
This is great. I think this is the first interview I have ever seen Ms. Booth in. She is a hoot. Funny, while I was watching her, I kept thinking of Geraldine Page.
I got chills when Cavett says of Gig Young at 3:52, "Yes, he's been seeing rabbits for years." No doubt he was alluding to Young's profound alcoholism.
What a treat. Thanks for posting.
Oh what an incredible woman she was! Clearly quite intelligent and educated. She seems so confident here, comfortable with herself and her surroundings. Shirley came across as clever and witty with an absolutely fantastic sense of humor! They sure don’t make ‘em like they used to. I really enjoyed this interview. Cavett on the other hand, I could do without. I never much liked his dry sense of humor. I’m more of a Johnny Carson girl. ☺️
A lovely lady who could act.
