I recently purchased the oil I want to put in it and I use 5w30 Full Synthetic on all my call because they are Chevy and they require the Dexol, So I just bought that, with one extra thing, High mileage, since all my cars are over 100k, including my SRT.

      If you are talking about the transmission, it's a little trickier, I'm running a rebuilt buffed up transmission from FWD Performance, and that runs Mobile One 5W30 High Mileage engine oil. Before that on my stock transmission I ran Mopar ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid, NO modifier additive.

    Is there any other procedures when putting the new filter on? Should it be filled with oil before putting it on? Also how much more oil should be used to make up for the bigger filter. I know it’s 5 quarts. I’m putting the big filter on this week. Also is removal of the oil cooler easy?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Год назад +1

      Hi wftrudell! some people do prefill the oil filter to avoid media shock and some people don't (service manual for example does not call for this) so it's more of personal preference. Regarding capacity, correct technically we have a little bit more depending on how big of an oil filter you went with, the best way to determine how much more is to check the fluid level after the oil change is completed to ensure your are at the recommended factory indicated range on the oil dipstick. Hope this helps, Cheers!

      Hi Goku Ang! the level will slighty vary from car to car. What people usually do is we calibrate our oil dipstick so we can have a better idea of where on our dipstick is the correct amount (I may do a video on this process later) if you google how to calibrate oil dipstick you should find plenty of tutorials explaining it in more detail. • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Prod! Some people delete the lines completely and cap the block where the lines used to go and others just insert plugs into the old rubber lines like I did (DCR used to sell the aluminum plugs you see inserted into the hose). I would say it depends on how clean you want the install to be (in terms of looks) and how much labor will be put into it (deleting the lines make the install a longer job but with a cleaner finish and eliminates the potential for the old rubber lines to develop a leak since they are deleted) Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Prod! I can't comment on flow as I'm not versed well enough on the fluid dynamics of the engine. The SRT4 came with a cooler from the factory and that cooling path was likely considered as part of the normal flow. I think like with any modification there is the potential for things to go wrong since we are deviating from factory. While the cooler may seem like a minimal change, it is a change and some people consider deleting it a big no no and some consider deleting it as a pro, so I would research as much as possible to get the most info and be able to make an informed decision (wait till you get to the Oil recommendations for the tranny, even more debate there lol). • @4drturbo85
    @4drturbo85 5 лет назад

    Honest question. Why didn't the Dodge SRT engineers do your mods in the first place? The 2.4 turbo does fine with the factory oil cooler setup and a stock style filter. Do have any sort of data to back up your claim on how it's "better" ?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  5 лет назад +1

      Hi 4drturbo85, good question yes I think you are right, the SRT4 stock setup always worked good for me, even when I was on Mopar Stage 3. These mods are primarily to gain additional horsepower, larger smoother passages on revised oil adaptor and larger oil filter frees up the oil pump reducing parasitic looses similar to the gains from underdrive pulleys or deleting the AC..

    • @__no.bags_
      @__no.bags_ 5 лет назад

      the stock oil cooler for them use coolant flow as cooling and majority of times they leak and end up with oil in the coolant, so doing a adapter with -10an fittings and an external mount oil cooler is more heat efficient and eliminates the coolant issue garbage

  • @prodDaiquiri
    @prodDaiquiri 4 месяца назад

    hey question, how long did you have the oil cooler hoses blocked off like that? and was coolant able to circulate ok?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Prod! I installed the plugs a long long time ago (probably over a decade ago now). Regarding flow, I couldn't tell you. Fluid dynamics is a very complex science, you could potentially use a device like this observe the flow ruclips.net/video/4brMrxuKr9I/видео.html or using software that can model the engine and flow can create a simulation to calculate flow (however this is probably outside the scope of most home mechanics and usually only seen at the professional racing level). And while a simulation can confirm flow, sometimes real life testing is also required to validate and confirm the accuracy of the results produced by the model at different RPMs (since the speed of the pump will affect flow results). Cheers!

      @@AlexAutoFun and car runs perfect? temps good?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Prod! I would say that would be dependent on how you define perfect and good LOL (the best running temp is somewhat subjective and also remember there are two temperatures to factor, the coolant temp and the oil temp) While I haven't had issues, remember I'm heavily modified, thermostat, coolant mix, custom tune with adjusted fan temps (some use a switch instead of a tune to accomplish a similar temp drop) etc. But also keep in mind that the temperatures will vary depending on how the car is used and any long terms effects of deleting it likely won't be apparent until the next engine teardown. I would recommend consulting with your tuner to see if a delete makes sense for your current build (and future build) along with the planned use for your SRT4. Cheers! @prodDaiquiri

      What about the coolant lines do I have to cap them off or can I loop them too?

      @@josebahena190josealbertoba2 I'm assuming you are referring to deleting the oil cooler? If so, I seen both approaches, one where they are just plugged like mine and I seen the approach where they loop them with a tube that join both of the hoses. Hope this helps, Cheers!

      Hi Mr. Me! yeah it should add some extra capacity, on this SRT I have deleted the oil cooler so that seems to have offset the extra capacity gained so the stock fluid capacity gets me to the fill line on the oil dip stick. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching bud!

      @@AlexAutoFun nice can't beat that ☺ I am in the process of deleting and asked modern what's what they said I wouldn't need the adapter I got it anyway lol they said the 03 had the smaller ports and 04-05 had the bigger ports but thanks for the video it was still insightful

      @@mrme9517 You're welcome bud! yeah that sounds correct some of the newer cars came with the larger adapter. Mine is an 04 but unfortunately come with the adapter with the smaller ports. The difference is honestly very small, I would only say upgrade if you want to extract every single once of power of out the SRT4 (like me LOL) One way to check if you have the updated adapter is to check the part number on the oil adapter on the next oil change (998AD and after is the updated part, the letters in the end are related to the engineering revision, letters earlier than that are the outdated adapter) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Avoid using high mileage oil. It’s known to soften and swell existing seals. If your motor is healthy and free of leaks it’s not necessary. There’s non high mileage oils with similar additives minus the seal “conditioners” that do a better job.
