Why you **SHOULDN’T** install a giant Tesla-style radio in your car. Phoenix PX6 update!

- Thinking about installing a Phoenix PX6 in your ride?? Take time to think it through! I had a bad experience with mine and removed it from my truck!
Update: yes, I sold the replacement unit
Wow, how much did you pay for that thing?
@@spellbreaker6609 at a time they were about 1k, right now you an find them anywhere from 500-700. I was going to install on my 2011 f150, but yeah, nevermind...
What's your wife's unit that had a better resolution
@@aaabbb-py5xd rhino radios. It was for a 4Runner though
What me you sale the unit?
your title is misleading...your issue is with this specific unit (or model or make) and not a "giant Tesla-style radio"
Exactly dude didn't even get the firmware
I agree. Very misleading. There's plenty of great tesla style stereos that work flawless
Just the fact he checked fuses when it obviously had power...
I too, put my stock back in after a year. Actually upgraded from sync 2 to sync 3. I would have gladly paid double for it to be what it should be.
going on 2 years with mine,, 0 complaints
Wow, sorry to hear that. I have a Phoenix PX6 on my 2017 Honda Accord and so far so good and works very well and I tether it to my Android phone and so far there has not been a problem. Although I had it for less than two months, I like it. Though some of the features could be better, I'm really enjoying it.
Does yours lock out certain apps like Netflix Hulu etc??
@@kdittyb Well when I try to look for a Netflix app on Google play it states there are no app for my system. But I have Netflix bookmarked on the Google browser so it's no big deal. I have Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Showtime apps on the system and they work fine for me. I don't have Hulu so I don't know about that.
@@josevalentin890 I ended up finding aink on RUclips where the guy posted a link to copy and it was able to be downloaded then pictured as an app..and so far for the 2 days since I figured it out it has worked great... and thanks for replying!!
@@kdittyb Post link to the video please.
@@josevalentin890 I can't on my phone but the user name is (Jansen vlog) ans title of video is (how to download nerflix on android head unit)
What you are describing is a buggy experience, that should be the primary focus for these units, some people have great experiences but it really comes down to the software.
I'm thinking it comes down to cars. Many of those with problems have American cars. I have noticed that in all the videos
One of the issues I'm commonly seeing is that there's too much tech in the car the screen is installed in. These are better for base model cars with less stuff tied to the head unit.
Yeah naa, for the price people pay for these trash units they should be able to work with any vehicle period.
I have a base model and want to upgrade from my 4 inch screen, but I'm scared to purchase and for the unit not to work
I mean, I see what you're seeing but, Tesla managed to do it.
Most of these product purchases are out of hope, I assume.
I was interested because I use my Explorer PUI to travel a lot and figured it would automated things.
I'm not now but ....
@@isabelfigueroa517 I should be getting mine soon…I’ll let you know if it’s worth it
@@OBEYALLSTARS any update with ur unit
I honestly understand the point of missing physical AC and radio knobs.
So because you had a bad experience I **SHOULDN'T** install any head unit. No specific reasons given. Great advice, thanks. Useful video. Glad I watched
It’s almost like you missed *THE ENTIRE VIDEO* Nice asterisks tho
I've never had any issues. I had two for different cars and about to get a third. I like them. No issues
I had the px3 since 2018 n never had a major problems with it but I just recently removed because I'm upgrading to the 2021 model f150
Broo watt yo order number and email so I can get a new one please
I've had my px6 for over a year. Its quirky but it definitely has not been as bad as yours. Some of the apps stopped working but its not as annoying. I believe you had a defective unit.
It's shit, I had one over a year, app crashes , lag an stutters. Total junk for 550$
dam my brother you had a lot of issues. I had none of those issues but I don't have Phoenix Px6. I bought mine from another vender and I have a Jaguar. I love it and have no problems.
Thanks for you probably saved me Lot of trouble, I was very attractive to tesla style and wanted to order it right away, glad my second thought told me to do some researchs.
This video sealed it for me. I don't think I'm going to buy this anymore. When I watch the review on youtube from the actual company and how many steps you had to go through just to set it up. I was a bit skeptical and now I will pass and keep my 8' screen on my Taurus.
Great video. Thanks! You saved hundreds of dollars!
buy the 4th gen linkswell. Vast improvement
Ya esas pantallas las envían configuradas para su carro plug and play
LMAO @ "toyota are more reliable trucks". You've got a Ford Taurus, but don't recognize that the Ford F-series trucks are the best in the industry?? #GTFOHWTB
Damn that sucks I have had one in my 2014 Mustang for 3 years now with no issues
I hope it stays that way!
You should try the Linkswell Gen 4 unit. I have it in my Ram and have zero complaints.
How is the stereo is it good I’m thinking of buying the same exact one
@@luiszamorano492 i have absolute zero complaints about it! ive had it in since August 2020 and its been the best thing ive done to my truck
@@MichaelBrook13Is the radio still working for you?
My sync3 died and Ford wanted $1300 for a replacement so I went with the PX6 2 years ago...I've had no issues. However, their is a glitch where you have to touch the radio then the Bluetooth (phone) buttons to get the audio to play properly if trying to just connect BT. It works every time, but that is a bit annoying. Android Auto works great, in fact that is all I use now on the unit. The backup camera works well and the full time front facing camera (supplied by Phoenic) is nice and I'm happy with it. Just purchased one for my Camaro...let's hope that I have a similar, positive, experience. Phoenix Tech support is really good as well...
Kind of a bummer. I was tempted after watching your firs5 video...
Also sounds like you never contacted their support for help until you wanted to return it. Oh well.
I think he really didn't want to install the unit to begin with? Maybe he just wanted to make a video with it? No shade but this just shows how good seller's customer support is. At least they reached out and offered solution/alternative if you end up getting a defective product.
YEAH
You should try a different CAN decoder box. They ussualy go out and the device won't even boot. They are 10-20$.
Mine works great!
I sure like mine work's great
We have one in our 2016 mustang and it has white screened and is useless. I'm putting the stock one in until I can find something better as we are just out of the warranty period 🤬🤬🤬
Man, you got yourself a bad deal. I have a Tesla style screen for my Lexus and I can’t complain. I fitted it myself and have had only two problems in the last two years. It’s a dream imho. I can go on Netflix, RUclips, Amazon, waze and surf the net. It’s so good for when sitting in traffic or waiting around your car.
Was it easy to install?
@@jamiebaker4622 it was quite easy as it was plug and play. It was the first time that I’ve done any work on any vehicle though 😂
I would say to be careful when taking out the air vents. I’ve seen a few videos where people have scratched their dashboard while removing them. I put tape around the edges to keep them safe.
I actually forgot to hook it up to the obd2 plug, but that wasn’t mush of an issue.
The bottom line is it was all worth it.
I can read my cars performance during and after driving. I have access to everything and the apps for skins and whatnot are really good. You can download anything on google play and buy updates from some really good creators. The inside of my car looks futuristic and it’s a 07 model 👍
Thanks! I nearly bought this unit.
Weird gripe about the hotspot since it has nothing to do with the head unit. Also that is exactly how you want your hotspot to function.
i got my new one yesterday hoping it works better than before
Well that helps me make my mind up! Thanks for updating us.
My brothers Kenwood died just like this a week after he bought it. It's a $1,100 unit. It's also a top name brand. Things go wrong with electronics sometimes. Period
Try AliExpress they sell them at a better price and you can customize the features different models Phoenix automotive add their own software that makes the screen mess up like this
1 read resolution before buying one, 2 his overheated, it is by vents that aren't shielded, 3 apple doesn't connect as easy as android phones to wifi. limited connection options, 5 install mini fan if needed via usb support.
I hear you on this I purchased a unit from Rhino Radios for my Toyota tundra with in 2 months of having the unit it started to show problems would be drivint and it would display the rearview camera as if it was on reverse, clearly reached out to the manufacture gave the runarrounds didnt solve anything added an additional 300.00 tag to a 900 pot already and purched the "new PX6" dind't work at all had to take it all down and install my factory unit back expensive leasson learned nice gimicky units but are worthless....
Get the gen 2 or 4 of the linkswell Tesla style radio I tested it out on 1 of my trucks and I loved it I just finish installing it on my other f150,f250 and I absolutely love it I was able to retain the start stop feature you should try it.
I'm was looking to buy one for my Tahoe but I have IOS which means there's a new major update on the way in September 2022 IOS 16 which will probably worse with this older tech. If the PX6 would WiFi update it might work okay but I think that I will wait for the next generation. Thx for the video.
I read that the updated android 9 version is way better.
I'm sorry you had such a cruddy experience I've loved mine had it for about 4 months now
Same thing happen to me brotha...I'm so sorry that happened to you and please don't expect to get no results that company is trash
No it’s not trash, I am a professional installer and I have been installing Linkswell stereo for 4 years now, sure they are not perfect but Linkswell offers excellent customer service for troubleshooting their units and also they can send you firmware updates for free. I stand behind them 100% unlike other companies that sell similar stereos but offer no kind of help in case something goes wrong
@@poptrunkonu ....if they were all you say brotha...I would have gotten the service I deserve as a paying customer. I'm glad you had a great experience but mine was a nightmare and in my book THEY ARE HOT GARBAGE and I wi continue to warn people of their foolish behaviors and neglectful staff
@@mrromerorobinson1982 that’s fine everyone has their own opinion about these radios and just because you got a bad experience doesn’t mean they are all bad or are junk
I had one for several years
Thanks. Looks like you saved me some money and aggrivation.
RE: Getting internet on the Unit via IPhone. To share the internet from your phone, yes, you have to turn on that feature every time, called Hotspot, at least on android anyways. The head unit should have been able to connect up then (it would have searched for that network and if found connected to it). It however should have stayed connected. That could have been maybe 2 things. Either the password was entered wrong (it'll seem like it was connected, you'd have not internet connection, and then soon drop because wrong password), or possibly having an issue with which encryption protocol you had set for your hotspot (on the Iphone). Sometimes one is set where in this case the head unit could not link with. I know... you've already moved on from this .. but maybe some tips for others in here who are having some of these same issues.
Ive been thinking about this for awhile, i have a 2016 f150 and would be interested in the new one if it fits the model. Love the content!
As far as internet, every video I have seen with this unit on a Chevy has great internet when connected to the OnStar internet.
i have the same one and have had very similar issues
I bought the Px6 for my silverado in 2019 and had some issues but nothing major like yours. I will admit the support from them sux. If you do have major issues then they will replace it but you have to buy a new unit from them then ship the old one back and then they refund you which is quite a cheek for them to ask
I dropped 3 screws into the abyss between the two times I was working on my car installing LC7I for after market amps and audio in my 2015 Taurus. Lot dash parts to come out to access the ACM. I was looking at maybe doing this but now think I will stick to my Sync 2 system, I’m happy with it just thought this would be cool.
Hey, how are you man? Hi from San Diego I just saw your video and I was thinking to do an upgrade on my truck. It’s a Ford F150 2013 to one of those big screens but I just saw your video and I was nop that’s not gonna happen. Do you recommend to upgrade to a sink three or sink four since my trucks Comes with a sink 2
The unit that comes with the truck is nice enough. Screw the android tablet.
Yeah these radio are pure trash man. I'm so glad i passed on this and other similar radios. They are glitchy and have bugs for years.
hi,i have mercedes gl350 2015 with similar unit as yours and i would like to ask you do you know maybe how to connect my rear backuo camera and also 360view camera
I just got one yesterday and it never turned on. I’m waiting for tech support to call me, but I’m sure that I will result in getting a replacement. I’ll make sure I put a small mark or look for a serial number to make sure they don’t give me the same thing refurbished
Mine works perfect tbh
Puedes tener un fusible abierto
Well thanks you saved me from ordering
Get the navos 12.1 screen, I think that one is good
Interesting. It’s now 3 years since this video and all of the various videos on this unite by people that have installed it are raving about it. So I wonder if the manufacturers have improved it or if this guy just got a bad one? I’m thinking about getting one myself, hence me watching A LOT of install videos on it.
All the videos I’ve seen where they absolutely hate this is Ford drivers. 🤦♂️ Phoenix needs to fix this for Ford.
I have this unit and no issues, everything is working fine, it is not uncommon to have any tech die within the first 6 to 12 months due to usually a faulty circuit, capacitor etc. In general all electronics have a chance of failing, usually if they do not fail withing 6 to 18 months you can probably bet it will go for a while before age and use cause a failure. I think having a bad experience with one unit, can leave a bad taste in the mouth, but its not all that uncommon.
I have seen people with actual Tesla cars have their infotainment screens fail and that's a much more advanced and expensive unit. I think the normal course of a consumer making a purchase and having a warranty issue process should be followed at least through one unit replacement, then if you run into a second one failing within a similar time frame, then yeah you can go and post a video like this "Why you **SHOULDN’T** install a giant Tesla-style radio in your car"...... but its really a pointless video, if you get a dud which happens you should go through the process, get the replacement and use the replacement. Instead you go and hoot and haw about how bad it is, etc. make a video make a scene about it, sell the replacement without ever making a go of the replacement unit.
That is the same thing as getting a new car, having a warranty issue, and not giving the dealer/mfr a chance to correct it then claim its shit.... That is not how the process works in real life hence why some states have the 3 attempt to fix laws in place. So consumers do not claim lemons out the gate and not give the mfgs a chance to correct a failure.
I appreciate the vid, but it sends the wrong, elitist message to consumers.
So the autotec integrates the Ford apim and retains the entire system. I haven't bought it yet. If you do I love to watch a video with an honest review.
Mine works great but some things I hate about it.
Should have put in an iPad checkout soundman
When they can do an iPad that keeps the 360 camera and app remote start I will be first in line! Until then I’ve resorted to a headrest iPad holder. Seems to keep the little dude happy
@@ZeroToAwesome you like the ability that anyone with even the slightest amount of know how can start your truck from an app? Is that not like a “smart” lock for your house?
This is a prime example of why to purchase a Linkswell and not a Phoenix.
Links well looks really nice but I don’t think they have an offering for Ram trucks older than 14
I have installed Phoenix stereos before that had many problems after installing but for me it’s all about who offers the best tech support to help you with the products, I have installed Linkswell stereo for 4 years now. Now recently I installed a Phoenix head unit on a newer Tahoe and I had to call about som issues and they helped me fixed everything I called them for, at the end of the day it’s just about preference
@@poptrunkonu I can promise you, from experience, Linkswell provides the best customer service out of the manufacturers of like products. But I am glad you had a good experience with Pheonix!
@@poptrunkonu I can garuntee you Linkswell customer service far surpases Phoenix's. Keep that in mind the next time you are shopping for a unit.

lol if i had that big sync 3/4 radio i wouldn’t want to change mine anyway, i got the little 4” sync 1 in my 2013, but i went ahead and spent the money of a normal double din dash kit, dont feel like fighting with android going down the road lmao
It's because you have a Ford. I have had one since October 2023 and no problems
Just had it installed the other day and it is doing all the same things!
It is installed into a Ford... but seriously, I've heard Fords "SYNC" causes issues with any aftermarket stereo decks.
That was very useful. Think i'll stay far away from that.
So, not only toyota are more reliable trucks but also aftermarket stereos for them work better? It would be great to see how that 4runner is set up.
That stereo has its flaws too, but not enough to make me take it out. The 4Runner is due for a mod that has been sitting on a shelf for far too long so maybe soon!
My girlfriend wanted this till I found your video and she heard you telling all the issues you had. She’s curious what you put in your wife’s 4Runner? She was thinking of the phoenix “Tesla” screen line you put in your truck…. It like I said, not anymore.
I’m sure it’s hit or miss as to the unit you get. The 4Runner had a rhino radio. They didn’t have a model for the f150 or I would’ve gone with them again

I have a XL so I don’t have that many features it’s would probably do Better in my truck. I’ll take it off your hands. 👍
With these Tesla style upgrades, you get what you pay for. I see horrible reviews on the $600 Amazon units. However, there are a few you can find on RUclips videos that are quality. Sounds like I’ll spend the extra $300-$400 for a better quality product.
It is a feature my phone is the same way
I just pre-ordered the new phonex 12.1 headunit for my jeep jl,suppose to be better then the px6 and comes with 6 gig ram and 128 rom so when ever I get it I'll see how it compares to yours.

thank you
that's not about this particular unit. it's about android head units. i have the same issue that is resolved by unplugging the car battery. interesting thing that i also have Ford=)) so my opinion, that no one should ever use this junk and better go with alpine, pioneer or something else with a name=)
Just bought one kinda scared now
Hope you have better luck than me!
You just got a bad radio (batch)...I have a Tesla radio that did everything that yours couldnt.

Carplay/Android Auto = Garbage! Relies on Cell reception. Built in GPS is normally a better option if you live in Midwest states. GPS is also faster that AA/Car play and don't eat data either.
How is the sound quality, is it better than a factory system.
Try the floating screen jvc k1000w

what does that mean it doesn’t retain the start stop feature? does that mean if you install some screens then your push start doesn’t work? 😱

So since you were close to the window had you asked them to refund or didn't you bother with that discussion?
Tesla style head unit looks stupid in my opinion, even on a Teslas. Anyway most likely you had cold solder joint inside the head unit and needed to be resoldered.
Did you try the SERGEY'S Custom firmware? It supposedly fixes all the bugs.
I considered it but then the unit decided to commit suicide and it didn’t matter anymore. Still rocking the stock ford system!
