I just got the new antenna you recommended and put it on. Good call on that thing. It works and looks great. Reception seems just as good as the stock. No more taking the antenna on for the car wash.

Hello,
Linkswell recently released a T-style compatible with my Ford Expedition 2017. Gen 4,12.1" Android 8.1 Screen (TS-FDOE12-1RR-4B ). After watching your videos, I found about phoenix's products and there 12.1 and 17" PX6 six-core android 9.0 fast startup screens. The Linkswell model is currently priced at about 300-400 hundred more than what Phoenix has their 2 screens which fit my 2017.
Based on quality, look/fit, and ease of installation which brand would you advise me to go with. I will be also installing my aftermarket Amps, subs and speakers and a 360 cam.
My 2017 f250 doesn’t have the 4” screen. Only has radio buttons. Not steering wheel controls either. Will I be able to install it?
How do you control the ambient light in the links well radio I got 2016 Ford F-150 platinum

Yes, only through wifi but you just use Google maps or wake for navigation

Any way to have the climate control come on with remote start? When I use my remote start climate control doesn't come on until I get into the truck and turn the key on?
Great review! What are your thoughts on waiting for the Linkswell Gen3 with Android 7.1 vs the old 4.4 on Gen2? I've read complaints about slow boot time and shortage of ram when using multiple apps.
I would definitely wait! The boot time is my biggest complaint but at the same time new doesn't always mean better so completely up to you
Ive got the phoenix with Android 9 and its fast and runs mutiple apps no problem

Yes it does, and yes the warranty with the factory screen would of course be gone
I wonder if I have manual climatization in my F150 if I could use that to have auto climate instead with the high option ?

I am looking for that answer as well, i have aftermarket system with subs, 6x9s, 6.5s, 4 tweeters, center speaker, and 2 amps, how does it sound with pheonix
Will either of these radios let you watch Netflix or Prime Video while the car is in motion? I am asking for passenger entertainment only...of course. None of the videos I have watched go into the video displaying folder much to see what/how you can watch. We currently use an ipad but if you bluetooth through the Ford Sync 3 system there is a delay so the video and audio get out of sync
So yes you absolutely can on either, I tried prime video and it does work but the screen it super super small at the top. Now youtube is pretty good size and if you have one downloaded.
Everyone of these links well vids I've seen, the temperature outside reads like 105 or 109 degrees. Apparently the outside temp don't work?
Does it effect the amp retractable side steps on the platinum F250? I read on a site it might not work with it. Any experience with this?
There is no way it would effect it, aftermarket. If they are the factory steps I can't say as I dont know how they are hooked up. Not sure how the radio would have any effect on the steps though

That's with the gen 4 from them but dont you have to take the parts from you sync system for that

Another great video! I'm trying to decide if I'm going to buy the Phoenix or the Linkswell. Which you recommend based solely on the performance of the unit.
Not really sure to be honest only due to each is basically the same. The edge Phoenix has over linkswell is being able to have the sync interface screen but that's not a big concern to me.

how does the screen do during cold weather? I live in Colorado so I don't want the screen freezing or getting glitchy during the winter. looks like you either live in SoCal or AZ...Im seeing the outside temp on the top of the screen in the video...
I'm actually in okc, neither the cold nor heat has affected my screen at all
I have a question about how to install it my 2016 F-150 has a factory big screen and heated cloth seats and knob climit control how can I use that on my truck
It all works from the screen, I have the same system as you and it all works on the touch screen.

Off topic but does your truck hang or hesitate when shifting from 3rd to 4th when the transmission is cold?Like first thing in the morning or after the truck has sat for awhile?I bought a 2019 XLT with the 2.7 in June and it has done this since about 1k miles.
Yes sir it sure does. Theres always a hesitation or a hard shift right there. It was worse on my 18 5.0 with more transmission issues so I'm happy with the one issue now
@@WICKEDAUTO1 thank you for the reply,I have done alot of research and it seems to be a common issue,although many have said it's a non issue and just a normal quirk of the 10 speed.
@@JamieOverTheHill it is probably at least 90% do it, doesnt mean it's not an issue and I'm sure over time it would be with shifting hard. I'm going to be taking my truck in soon and will see about a TSB for 19s
Had a 2017 with a 2.7 and the engine went before 20,000 Kim’s. The local dealer was amazing and they took the truck back from me and now I have a 18 5.0. The transmission hard shift was there but was fixed on my last service, there was a transmission update and not its gone. I am sure it will come back, lol

Did you have any issues with back-up camera quality with the Phoenix? I bought one for my f150 and the backup camera quality is horrible and the video skips while moving. And as you said, I can't get a single person from the company to answer me.
I honestly can't remember for the Phoenix but I have no issues with the linkswell

Wish Linkswell made one for my 2012 f250. I can get one through phoenix though.
Wicked it just might void anything electrical since you have introduced a none stock electrical item into the truck. I had an issue with a Chevy electrical system that they didn’t cover because of aftermarket items.
That's why you always keep factory parts and re-install them before taking it in for warranty work.

They don't make one for Lexus :( I went ahead and ordered the Phoenix after all. I was going to go with a GROM unit, but that looks dated. Beat Sonic looks contrived with two screens. Phoenix is my only option. I spoke to a couple of other youtubers and they said they've had no problem with their units so I hope your experience was unique. I'm in Las Vegas too! If my AC goes out, I'm screwed.

@@teetexas91 no both have it, I know with Phoenix you have to download an app and go through it that way. I'm not sure with linkswell as I never have used it

Great Review! ..... Question for WickedF150 ? Or anyone else that might know? Do you know if either the Phoenix or Linkswell Head Units have Powered or Passive Audio outputs? (or Both?) Reason i ask is i have a couple Amps , a Sub, and a Audio Control DQ-61 OEM Sound Processor in my 2016 F-150. I also installed a Android Extension From Another Manufacture. It just runs Android on your Existing SYNC-3 screen and lets you switch back an forth from Android to SYNC-3. Don't want to Bash anyone but this thing has been a Freakin Turtle to say the Least. Runs on Android 4.0 ish with the SLOWEST PROCESSOR Money Can Buy.... ( buy the time it booted up and got the sound to sync to Bluetooth and turned on WAZE Maps. I was half way to my Destination..( lol ) Ive been torturing myself with 3 years of Slooooooow.
I wish these Newer/Way Faster 12.1 inch screens were available back then.... Now to decide on which one...? Thanks for your time!
P.S. to those who think these types of units are to Complicated or Distracting... You should be on the Android Auto or Apple Car Play Page.... This isn't for you!
I wish I could answer the sound questions but I have not a clue about that stuff. Electrical is not my strong suit lol now I will say if your after the speed go with the Phoenix fast boot. The linkswell is about a 30sec boot up.
@@WICKEDAUTO1 No problem, thanks anyway. I actually emailed Phoenix a bit ago and they auto replied and it asked me to register? I was hesitant to hit the email link, but did it anyway... Glad i did. It sent me to a page with a bunch of info about their units... They are Powered Not Passive....
I also learned ( correct me if im wrong?) With these type of Head Units, they can Retain the Ford SYNC-3 Interface, but you lose use of the Factory OEM GPS Navigation? And Factory Voice Control If you already have those options prior to switching screens. My Ford Built in GPS kinds Sucks. And so does the the Voice Control... So its not a Total deal breaker.... But for those times when u don't have a internet signal...hmmm?
I guess there are alot of Offline Map apps that the external gps receiver with the new head unit should work with?

Just got a Real Person Reply from Phoenix... they say the Factory GPS Will work with the ( PX6) (6 Core)
@@KZ-1155 that is pretty nice that they got the factory gps to work. I know on those new ones you do get the sync interface as you take I believe the APIM from factory and connect that. I do wish the linkswell had that option at least.
I am curious about the screen being burnt into the screen. Like your home screen and other screens. I am still on the fence which one that I want to get.

@@woods656 yea I've never heard of that, dont think it's a problem on these plus I know mine is never on the same screen all the time. I know that linkswell is in the process of coming out with a new one so if your currently on the fence I would wait about a month or so maybe and see how the new one is if it is out by then

Does both the Linkswell and Phoenix are compatible with Apple CarPlay? I know this is android base software. If so will it have some limitations as to its features when using iPhone compare to android base phone?
Yes both support apple CarPlay fully.

My 2019 Platinum seat message is controlled on the side of seat. Heat and cool is controlled from the dash control.
Do they have a cellular data SIM compatible model on either one so you don't have to constantly turn on your phone's hotspot?

Found out you can get a device that plugs into your diagnostic port for $10 thru TMobile. It'll give you wifi in the car and diagnostics for your car. Works well

Im not sure actually, I have never used it on this one. On the Phoenix you have to download an app(not android auto) for it to work, took a min or two to click through the screen and it connect on there

There really isn't a link as you usually can only get it from a local dealer which you could find on linkswell website. You may be able to find one on Ebay or Amazon from time to time. With phoenix you can buy them on Ebay, Amazon or their website
My guess is the home screen is just an android launcher of some sort. You could probably get the apk for the app elsewhere and just install it... maybe

How's the fuel economy doing with the 2.7?
With now 2 tanks through it hand calculated I'm at 15.5. That's maybe 20-30% city and idling about an hour everyday through the week. Without the idle I have no doubt it would be much better!
I have a 20.1 lifetime average for my 2.7. About 6000 miles on it now. That's with some towing. I do drive highway a lot.
Wow. My average with my 2016 3.5eb was 21mpg. 71000 miles. I just traded it for a 3.0 powerstroke. I still miss my EcoBoost. but I really expected better with the 2.7eb.

Which screen do you like better? I will say, hearing that the Phoenix customer support is a pain to deal with is a huge turn off.
Definitely linkswell!! Their customer service is amazing!! You get all the same main features between the two. Linkswell is coming out with a new one here shortly though!

I just installed the phoenix screen on a 2016 dodge ram dont get me wrong all the functions work like factory.but sound quality is not there the screen is not so sharp.but from a sales perspective i wouldn't sell it id stick with a stinger or alpine unit my self.rather not deal with headaches of warranty issues.

I have the linkswell as well, probably need to update it, also my clock is crazy, I set the time and it keeps changing will not stay as set, any ideas?
I had to set it to a time zone to get it to stay. It would go go back every start as well.

I believe you would have the same set up as the f150 so it should work but I would contact linkswell directly and verify it with them. However they are about to come out with their newest version any time now

I do still have it and I would still recommend based on customer service however the sound quality was better with the Phoenix
