Review: 2021 Lexus IS 350 F Sport AWD - Is it Improved Enough?

  • I review the refreshed 2021 Lexus IS 350 F Sport AWD to see if the changes underneath the skin are as dramatic as the changes to the exterior are. Sadly, while the driving dynamics are improved, some aspects simply pale in comparison to many of the newer competitors that offer more for the same or less money than the IS. What do you think of the 2021 IS 350? Thanks to Lexus for providing this vehicle to review.

    Really cool to see Lexus isn't focusing on achieving pwr/trq with a turbo motor. People tend to forget that a fast car today will be a slow car a generation from now. A N/A v6 sounds and feels good today, and will continue to do so many years from now.

    • @lowk3ychris484

      Only thing slowing turbo cars from today down in the future is carbon build up from GDI, as cars move to include both GDI and Port Injection this will be less and less of an issue. Besides, look at all the turbo cars of the past how much slower are they than their original baseline?

      Keeping NA engin is a great idea (especially they are indestructible) but it also shouldn't prevent them of thinking of making an IS500 and ISF, if they really want to compet with their german rivals.
      As far as I'm concerned, an IS 300h will do the job for my daily use

    • @boboutelama5748
      @boboutelama5748 3 года назад +2

      @@alexkid408 What is preventing to even dare of thinking of the IS500 and ISF are fleet carbon taxes slowly coming everywhere. BMW, Mercedes and VW are already whining and trying to have them removed, what will very probably not happen because european peoples are voting green party into the government so that this will come.
      It means Toyota is one of the few who actually has a plan/idea, of what they are doing in the long run.
      There is a way around though, and it's the inline 6 they are working on. Less emission because of 3Liter displacement, more torque, because of the inline 6, a more favourable bore/stroke ratio, lighter, and more power (around 350hp announced - will more probably be around 335 hp).

    • @alexkid408

    Looking at the comments I can tell that a lot of people don’t have a business mindset of how Toyota/Lexus operates from a business perspective. In life you can’t have everything that you want. With every choice comes a trade off, cost and benefit. Just because every other car brand is following the trends of turbo chargers doesn’t mean Toyota/lexus needs to as well. The company knows that the market is shifting from sedan to suv. It doesn’t make sense to invest heavily in the sedan market especially since consumers market are filled with people eager to buy suv. On the other hand this IS is not at all bad. 311 horsepower is still enough for the average consumer that commutes from home, to work, and occasional outings. As a business it doesn’t make sense to devalue a Toyota/Lexus engine to appeal to a small minority of people that want a turbo charged 350-390 horsepower sedan. Your average consumer is not driving a car with 390 horsepower because if your living in the city there’s no point if you’re using it as a daily driver. I can give u an example, Mercedes sold more c300 from 2016-2020 ( 256 horsepower) than that of the c43 and c63. Why you ask? Because the average consumer is not looking for the fastest car. The average consumer which is a majority, is looking for a car that is nice but relatively good looking to commute within the city. Therefore I feel like Lexus nailed it with this IS. Within three years you will see a lot of owners with this car on the road in comparison to the German competition that get tossed out before it reaches 100,000km with problems

    If you commute long distances every day and not only you, but your employees depend on you being there every day, a Lexus is really the only choice with some level of luxury. Nothing else comes close to serving this purpose day after day for a few years straight with no fuss. Maybe a Toyota Avalon does, but really, nothing else.
