Fun story, I was listening to Shantien’s theme medley one night while I was really tired. As I was dozing off and only half-conscious the phase 4 theme was playing and I swear my mind felt transcendent. Couldn’t agree more with the top pick!
My top 3 best themes in the entire franchise are: 1. Shantien 4th phase. This theme was made by God himself manifested in a human being. 2. Safi'jiiva especially final phase. It always left me speechless. 3. All-mother Narwa. This one hits different because of the monsters' lore and fits perfectly with that specific phase of the game.
I only ever played Tri at my friend's place but Ceadeus' 2nd phase has always been one of my top favourites despite never even seeing the thing in-game. I played most of the PSP titles, Tri just wasn't interesting to me because I couldn't play it with my brother. What always struck me about Ceadeus was that the theme doesn't even feel like a battle, it feels like more like they're singing praise. I always liked that idea. Like some ancient civilization is praying to their god that they may catch enough fish to live off of. It's far more beautiful than most other themes and it has a sense of wonder and awe that I always enjoyed. At the same time, there's subtle elements and moments that give you an eerie feeling, like something powerful is lurking beneath the waves. It's a nice combination of emotions that in my opinion displays the idea of this proto-religious sea god theme incredibly well.
@@HadiaVin This has nothing to do with stupidity. This theme tells a story by itself, it's just as epic as it is tragic, easily the best Monster Hunter theme.
As much as I absolutely ADORE the Amatsu theme (portable 3rd is my favorite game) the shantien's theme is just BEAUTIFUL. And getting zoinked and listening to this immersed me to a point where I felt like I was in the game itself and had the best trip of my life 💥💥
With the focus on the potential return of Amatsu and the Wind/Thunder serpent for Rise, and with Espinas confirming the revival of Frontier in the mainline series, Rise is THE PERFECT time for Shantien, the Heavenly Flying Dragon, to come back. He fits PERFECTLY thematically, more powerful than Amatsu and the Serpents, and we will be blessed with his unparalleled theme once again.

Shantien really needs to be in the main Series. I remember when it released for frontier back in the day and heard it’s final theme for the first time. I was blown away by how good it was!
Capcom has a lot of issues that have earned it the nickname Crapcom, but one thing you must admit... When it comes to the music, they do not disappoint.
I mean, the entirety of the mega man series ost, the marvel vs capcom themes, okami, the mercenaries theme in re6. they really do good work with music.
Nono and kamu orugaron theme it's really good, but the black unknow wyvern it's the best. Because the black wyvern theme it's the representation of his fury
I feel you. I put Crimson Fatalis above it though for the same reason. The vocals in the first phase sound like they are begging him to stop through worship and appeasement (the quiet part with the vocals are beautiful, compliments of Emi Evans), and they fail bringing on the second phase of desperate pleas and cries for salvation against his demonic wrath. It's brilliantly done.
Not only is Shantien best theme music but it’s also the best LOOKING monster out there in my opinion. The look just screams “I’m majestic as fuck and you don’t want to mess with me”.
Wow, Frontier really does have some impressive monsters and themes. I'm not as familiar with the games outside of the mainline, or prior to 4U, so it's really neat. Shantiyen's got one hell of a theme, I'll give it that. Now that Rise/Sunbreak is over, I hope we get to see more of these guys return in future games! Maybe the next game will feature some...? Hard to say, if it is World style, but one can hope! World and Rise gave monsters like Alatreon, Fatalis, and Amatsu the level of spectacle and power they deserved; imagining some of their fellows in stunning HD would be really nice. A few themes I personally have come to enjoy that aren't here are Glavenus, Malzeno, Gore Magala, and Gaismagorm. Can't really argue with this list, though.
Shantien 4 is hands down the best, not only is the fight super active and the scenario perfect, you're basically fighting the ruler of the skies in the sky itself, last phase it's him showing you that he doesn't need to be in his territory to be utterly terrifying and the music it's just perfect for the ocassion, it's both a last stand theme and a final boss one bundled with an awesome fight of an incredible monster, if there is 1 monster from frontier that should be in mainline games it's Shantien.
I honestly think that Dire Miralis theme's better than Caedus. It's one of those themes that just gives you goosebumps whenever you hear it. It'd be at the same level as Fatalis theme honestly
Man, every time I thought ''But what about x, when will that show up?'' it was literally next up. I have a couple picks not on here, a couple tracks from World/Iceborne (Velkhana/Xeno/Safi), Duremudira, and giant enemy crab, but this list is definitely my jam. We have very similar tastes it seems!
Yeeeeeeaaaaaah Ma boi the ceadeus, that fight was fucking unique and the made me feel a weird feeling of nostalgia. Those extra vocals of the song when the fight ends and we see the end of the game is so good dood
I am usually not a fan of people who create "Top themes of [insert videogame here]" since it's very subjective which themes are good and which not. But I wholeheartedly agree with your list. I think a good honourable mention would be Duremudira's theme

Most of them I never heard or didnt know they exist since I started with World. But damn, this Dire Miralis Theme hits different. It really sounds like the world is ending and you are the one hero saving it from disaster. Makes me sad that I probably will never fight this thing in a new game and hear its theme as like in next-gen game scenario. I probably could play mh3u - but I am a person who has less fun in older games these days just because of how used I am to higher standards now. With like smooth camera/gameplay and at least 60 FPS etc. .. but maybe in somewhat of a mhgu like game as some anniversary or remake with old time classic monsters returning.. a little bit of hope for that, even if its nearly impossible.
Generally, you got most of my personally highly ranked themes. Bit bummed you didn't include the new Sunbreak themes. They're not instantly hyper-energeic like most old-gen themes, but they build up, and are nowhere near as repetitive as some old themes. I feel like Sunbreak's themes (and a few World and Iceborne ones) have a more subtle depth, and are more replayable, since they are structured as a proper orchestra.
Malzeno's theme is great, but most remixes just aren't as good as the OG. Espinas is definitely none of them, but for example Astalos and Shagaru (which are in here)have weaker themes in Sunbreak than before. Rise's remixes are superior to World's though.

It's a refurbishment of the original theme, with regional touchups (Arabic for Teostra's manticore motif), but became much weaker in turn. Personally, I couldn't give a damn how foreign the theme sounds if it can't get me excited in the least. It makes no difference to the fight whether it plays or not. It completely shed the low percussion and brass in favor of traditional instruments. Big ass L. Frankly speaking, I don't like Rise Teo at all, even though he's objectively better than in World, partly because the theme is boring as hell. The theme playing in the fight does _nothing._ It accomplishes _nothing,_ and I'd genuinely be fine playing with the sound off. This is hella disappointing, because music is a huge part of what games I like and play. World Teostra and Kushala weren't the best fights (being either too easy or irritating), but I still loved them to hell and back. Why? Because their music was powerful and majestic. Teostra's theme climax makes you feel like you're charging in as Teostra rears back and fully flames up. Kushala's climax feels like bracing against a world-ending storm. They are _masterpieces_ that I've downloaded to phone, and even over a thousands repeats in, it feels just as good as when I listened to them nearly 5 years ago.

I'll give an honorable shoutout to the absolute chaos of the 2 phase Unknown tracks from frontiers (the flying ones, not the black fox/Mi Ru variant of Unknown which is more epic than chaotic). Crazy themes for an unhinged monster, that thing was NOT playing around.
The beginning of Old Fatalis' theme always unnerves me. So otherworldly, like it shouldn't be there at all yet it is. Good themes all around but Malzeno takes the cake for best theme currently imo, just perfectly fits what it portrays.

me personally here's my top 6, cause I can't pick 5 exact ones I love the most I think 6th would be Glavenus's original theme. POWER. 5th is the OG Forlorn Arena/Tower theme. feels so wild and mysterious and I love it. 4th is between the Coral Highlands large monster music (magically mysterious and alien sounding) and Ceadeus's second phase theme for the same reasons. 3rd is iceborne's raging brachy final phase music. Something else in terms of epic feeling and badassery 2nd goes to Safi'jiva, especially the final phase theme. Gives me shivers whenever I hear it. 1st is easily Kulve Taroth's fury mode theme. This scratches an itch in my brain nothing else comes close to scratching, and she's especially memorable to me as my first giant siege monster other than obviously dire miralis's worse cousin.
My top 3 is personally 1. Proof of a Hero (MH4U version). I don't care if it doesn't belong to a specy 2. Shantien phase 4 3. White Fatalis theme from MH4U. This gave me PTSD. 4. Valstrax (mhgu version) 5. Ceadeus phase 2

I can agree with all of these being on the list (except maybe Mohran), the order I don't really agree with but I don't want to argue about that. I would like to add a few other Frontier themes that aren't very well known. I'll need to re-listen to them because it's been a while since I've heard most of them, but here are some : Varusaburosu Espinas Mi Ru Odibatorasu some of the (numerous) Raviente themes (including violent and berserk)

With Frontier, there were around ten Honorable Mentions I had to pick from. Chaotic Magala was one of them, great theme. As for Ukanlos, I don't like some parts of the theme.

I think it fits with how unnatural Fatalis is supposed to be. Its like a creature that crawled out of myth, you even fight it in a ruined castle as opposed the natural and life filled areas of World
Some of them, like Shantiyen or Diorex, most likely would have the same name if they return in the main series. These names are romanized. Others, like Dhisufiroa or Harudomerugu, don't have any "english" names.

Indeed it is, phase 1 and 3 sound great and fitting but Shantiyen's final phase theme is easily the best MH theme, unrivaled.
Safijivas ire theme and Kulve taroths beginning fury are my favorite along with narwa, valstrax and malzeno.

here's my top 6, cause I can't pick 5 exact ones I love the most
I think 6th would be Glavenus's original theme. POWER.
5th is the OG Forlorn Arena/Tower theme. feels so wild and mysterious and I love it.
4th is between the Coral Highlands large monster music (magically mysterious and alien sounding) and Ceadeus's second phase theme for the same reasons.
3rd is iceborne's raging brachy final phase music. Something else in terms of epic feeling and badassery
2nd goes to Safi'jiva, especially the final phase theme. Gives me shivers whenever I hear it.
1st is easily Kulve Taroth's fury mode theme. This scratches an itch in my brain nothing else comes close to scratching, and she's especially memorable to me as my first giant siege monster other than obviously dire miralis's worse cousin.
If had to make a top 20 Oltura's themes would be there too along with these and most of the themes in this list, they're divine.
i cant handle the 1st phase of ceadeus theme, it always makes me almost cry everytime i hear it
Nice taste but raging brachydios deserves a better rank in my opinion :)

1. Proof of a Hero (MH4U version). I don't care if it doesn't belong to a specy
2. Shantien phase 4
3. White Fatalis theme from MH4U. This gave me PTSD.
4. Valstrax (mhgu version)
5. Ceadeus phase 2

A lot of these are exclusive to Frontier, while some others only appear in the 3rd & 4th generation.

I can agree with all of these being on the list (except maybe Mohran), the order I don't really agree with but I don't want to argue about that. I would like to add a few other Frontier themes that aren't very well known.
I'll need to re-listen to them because it's been a while since I've heard most of them, but here are some :

Espinas
Mi Ru
Odibatorasu
some of the (numerous) Raviente themes (including violent and berserk)
Solid picks, Mi Ru was a contender for Honorable Mention, Frontier just has too many good tracks.

With Frontier, there were around ten Honorable Mentions I had to pick from. Chaotic Magala was one of them, great theme. As for Ukanlos, I don't like some parts of the theme.

I think it fits with how unnatural Fatalis is supposed to be. Its like a creature that crawled out of myth, you even fight it in a ruined castle as opposed the natural and life filled areas of World

Are not Monsters from MHF given English name?
Some of them, like Shantiyen or Diorex, most likely would have the same name if they return in the main series. These names are romanized.
Others, like Dhisufiroa or Harudomerugu, don't have any "english" names.
