Thank you - great video. You just saved me for a trip to the dealer for grinding. Now my mower runs like new through the long grass after the winter. And I didn't even have the grinding paste, so I had to use what I had. I grinded the edge of the blades with metal grinding paper until they shined (mower turned off), sprayed with WD40 over it all and adjusted the screws to find the right position for the transverse knife. Shortly after the mower worked very fine again - before it could not cut through the long grass and stopped. I will also buy some grinding paste to try the next time. Greetings from Denmark 🙂
Thank you Maggie 😂. I really hope this helps! A cylinder blade I could imagine being around £50 or so. For a rotary that’s really too much, the chances are you could replace the blade for less than £30 🙂🌱
Brill vid! I’m looking to purchase a new mower and was wondering, what’s the diff between Balmoral, Atco, Suffolk punch, Qualcast and Allett ? What one would you recommend
Could you show how to take the reel out of the Web push mower. I have one myself and wanting to replace the reel with one that has more than 5 blades so I can get the length on the grass down to 4mm. I have found a way to lower the height on it with some modifications but 5 blades is not enought for the height I want to cut at
I actually don’t use it much.. but that is only because I have a better machine. For something that is push operated it works very well and cuts very well, it takes several passes to get a decent stripe though 😄
Great video. Cheers. How do you remove the cylinder itself from the casing eg to replace / weld a blade. Can it remove the nut, worried I might bugger it up
Thank you Paul! I have never actually removed the cylinder from The casing, although if you got in touch with Allett they have a great customer service to advise with that type of thing 💪🏽🌱
Exactly pal, if the blades are really blunt though I would suggest getting them sent in to be serviced and re grinded properly, although backlapping is great to just keep on top of it 😄🌱
I've got an old Webb Whippet probably from the 50's/60's i'm going to try and use the grinding paste on it and backlap it. Our lawns are quite small, i'm not sure if its worth getting a petrol cylinder or not...
Hi Paul, I've just been handed down my Grandads Webb Whippet and looking to restore it. I'm not sure if I am missing anything but I can't see a way to lower the cylinder closer to the bedknife? Have you managed to backlap yours yet? @JayRock Lawn Care & Gardening, great video and thanks for the info!
I found that the idea of a cylinder mower was logical when I got one but in reality to get it serviced and the blade sharpened the cost involved was more yearly than what the mower was worth and just to get the cylinder blade sharpened professionally and have the blade balanced was hundreds of pounds that I wasn’t going to pay as I wasn’t cutting golf or bowling greens so it didn’t make sense. I tried this method and a few more to no success nothing really worked well enough so I ended up selling it and I went back to the old rotary petrol mower. So think twice before spending good money on buying a cylinder mower I had a qualcast classic it was over ten years old when I bought it was in good condition engine was Italian I payed 200 pounds for it and sold it after a year as it wasn’t affordable to maintain.
@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance cheers mate. I'm gonna buy one. I've got a cheap rotary electric mower at the moment with a long cord, very blunt and the grass is screaming at me everytime I cut it. 🤣👍 Keep up the Great videos and tunes soon.
