Hi thanks for the video multi-sharp should be giving you a kick back as I’ve just purchased and used my sharpener with fantastic results on my Classic 35s all thanks to watching for bid and following the link. Cheers again
Terrific review, especially for your first time. Consider adding subtitles for the entire video for those who don't speak English as their first language. Your diction and pace of speaking is perfect for us to understand despite your accent. Adding a before and after view of grass that has been cut and your opinion of the performance would turn this very good review into an excellent one. You're leading the charge for all of us who prefer to DIY.
Good review and demo, cheers. I will be buying and trying for my suffolk punch. The shop wanted £100 for sharpening, it's a lot when you should probably be doing it every year (and the mower is old and not worth much). Thanks again
Thank you for the feedback, I was also quoted around £100 for sharpening my mower blades so looked for alternatives, this was the easiest method I found.
I have been searching for something like this for 2 years. My Gardena C400 mower can barely cut air anymore. And the grinding paste is something I have nto wanted to try. You should get full endorsment for this. basically the only video I've found that showcased this. Thanks a lot! I just ordered mine from Amazon to try.
@@Milnero I have just contacted them, and promoted your video as the reason for me buying this tool. Used mine today and it worked extremely well! Again BIG THANKS! If you come to STHLM Sweden any time, a couple of pints are on me mate! 🍻😎🤘
Just purchased and should arrive tomorrow...thank you SO much as I have just been given my late father -in- law's old qualcast 30 push mower...I'd hate to mess it up with grinding paste etc and I want to use it on my small patch of grass for as long as it will oblige as he had looked after it so well.
I think you did a fantastic job presenting the product explaining it and showing how to attach it and then the text that came up through it but you did it for about 5 minutes then you lowered it and perhaps it could have been a little bit shorter and more condensed getting to the point of attaching it to the more I was sort of saying myself to the video come on put the thing on already but other than that I think you did a fantastic job the only other thing I would say is if there was an opportunity to take the more out and actually cut some lawn with it to show whether your statement of you expect to get a really good cut with it came true could have possibly been added and just sort of time lapsed you probably would have only taken you a couple of minutes more and would have been worth seeing but overall I still got to say you did an absolutely fantastic job in presenting the product and the description and the purpose and the method
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on my video, I appreciate your feedback and it's certainly something that I'm going to take on board for future content. Thank you
I bought and used one of these. All good, but the plastic tightening screws are very flimsy and both sheared. I replaced them with metal grub screws. All good.
Thank you for the like and sub, I found lots of none OEM bottom blades for sale on ebay for most mowers extremely cheap and well made, you could always put the bottom blade into a vice and use file just have to make sure you get the angle right. I tried backlapping using a product called Chemico it certainly worked to sharpen the top and bottom blade but was very messy which is my only complaint, if you do give backlapping ago be careful I snapped one of the cogs and had to order a replacement part.
I think this exactly what I need. Thanks for your demo. I have a Reel push mower "14 inch. Does it matter which grade of sandpaper? Where can I purchase this product? And what's it called?
You said blades will Run "Backwards". Is there a 'Reverse' with engine on and running ? just wondering. Looks Nice! I have [60's?] Craftsman Push Reel Mower that has Different 'setup' of Bolts, have NOT found way to Adjust Bar.
You add the sharpener to the lower bed knife and whichever direction your blades spin when you push the mower will sharpen the blades with the tool attached. Usually the bed knife has only one fixed position as you adjust the height of the cutting reel instead. Hope that helps and thank you for watching the video.
Follow up!! Multi-sharp did sharpen the cylinder to a paper cut from a cylinder leaving my grass in waves. Having said that if your cylinder is off true you will need it professionally sharpened on a lathe along with bottom blade .
Just curious - if needing something like this for a larger (read 'wider') mower, might you know of a wider brand, or purchase two of the shorter ones and "trim" them to fit ? Your Thoughts? Excellent video, thank you.
I think they come in two sizes, trimming down two smaller ones might work but having not tried it I can't guarantee your results, best of luck with whatever you decide
No not needed, just fit the sharpener to the bed knife and start the mower. If your using a push mower then just push the mower around, no need to spin the blades backwards
If by trailing edge you're referring to the bed knife, this sharpener will not sharpen that part of the mower and is only suitable for sharpening the reel, I would remove the bed knife and hand file it.
Unfortunately this device only sharpens half of the mower. The cylinder and bottom knife act like a pair of scissors, this device only sharpens one half of the scissors.
@@Milnero It is indeed needed with any method, you would see far better results by spinning in reverse. Going forward is an easy way to remove imperfections to the cutting edge, but to create a proper cutting edge, reverse is the only way to do it. Grinding lathes would run the reel forward otherwise. Apologies for being a keyboard warrior. But I have been a turf machinery engineer for 12 years haha.
Appreciate your comments and don't think of yourself as a keyboard warrior! Nothing wrong with knowing your craft. The item does work as a sharpener but I know it wouldn't be a complete replacement for a machined method.
@@Milnero Here there is nothing to knock bed knife mounted units, Ive seen some very good jobs done buy them, i have a vintage oil stone set somewhere, not everyone has access to reel grinders nor do they want to fork out what some charge for the service, perfectly acceptable method for the diy!
@@Frz45 I know someone who’s been sharpening reels for the majority of their life. They started when they were 13 & now in their 60’s. He said backlapping is the worst thing one could do to their reel mower. He’s sharpened reel mowers for courses hosting PGA events, so I’d say he’s pretty knowledgeable.
Total waste of money. Cylinder grinding is a hard aggressive process, a bit of sandpaper isn’t going to touch it. Also the bottom blade is critical to the process, as far as I can see this doesn’t do anything to the bottom blade. Money far better spent getting someone to do it properly, well if you want to get your machine working the best it can do at any rate

FANTASTC video, well done. Getting this sharpener for sure.
Thanks! 👍
Great advice. Seeing it doone makes it wasier to install & use the sharpenning tool. Worked great. Thanks.
You're welcome, glad the video helped!

That's incredible mate, thank you.
I will take you up on the pint if I'm ever in your region 🤙
Just used this on an old totally blunt mower and it cuts like new. Very helpfil video
Glad it worked, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, just sharpened mine, works a treat. 👍
Not a problem, I'm pleased you found the video helpful. 👍
Great review, thank you!
Thankyou for this, I've considered this product and now I'm keen to purchase. Thanks again.
Not a problem glad the video was helpful
good bit of kit. i might make something as i have loads of sandpaper to use up.
Very informative well done
Appreciate that, thank you.

Enjoy your father in-laws lawn mower, happy reel mowing.
@@Milnero Thank you!!...I am assuming though that I will have to turn the reel with a drill and socket? x
Attach the sharpener, start the mower and spin the reel.
Reel mowers can spin the reel without the drive engaged, no tools necessary.
@@Milnero She said She has a push mower though

I also thought the screws weren't particularly great but worked still if you didn't tighten to much, glad you came up with a fix
Good review pal, any ideas on how to sharpen bottom blade. Was thinking of using the multi Sharpe then back lapping maybe. Any thoughts

I purchased one just the other week, thanks for the great tip and the nice comments, glad you enjoyed the video

So is the reel spinning forward or backwards? Looks like it’s spinning forwards.

Bought this tonight hopefully all goes well, my only concern is the bottom blade.can I use a bevelled cutting stone on my drill?

Will this sharpener work on my 18” manual reel mower ?

Do you need to run the mower in reverse to sharpen the blades?
No not needed, just fit the sharpener to the bed knife and start the mower.
If your using a push mower then just push the mower around, no need to spin the blades backwards
Did you get a good cut in the end?
I did thank you, blades cutting like new again.
Bought an old Ransomes 24inch mower. Cannot get sharpener this big ???
You could buy two of the 12" lengths to make up your required width or buy just one and do half at a time, here's the link.
amzn.to/3INp0qF
How do you grind a relief into the trailing-edge of the blades?
If by trailing edge you're referring to the bed knife, this sharpener will not sharpen that part of the mower and is only suitable for sharpening the reel, I would remove the bed knife and hand file it.
Thanks very helpful👍
Unfortunately this device only sharpens half of the mower. The cylinder and bottom knife act like a pair of scissors, this device only sharpens one half of the scissors.
As a maintenance tool this really does work it will bring back a dull blade but won't replace a machined sharpen. Thanks for watching
Where did you buy the sharpener
Links in the description, Amazon, let me know how you get on with it.
Am I missing something or is the blade going forward 🤔
That’s what i thought too.
there is no spark plug
What do you mean?
You are spinning the reel the wrong way… need to run the reel backwards with a drill and adapter or a back lap motor.
Not needed with this method. As the blades spin in the direction of the cut the blades make contact with the sharpener, it works well.
@@Milnero It is indeed needed with any method, you would see far better results by spinning in reverse. “Reel too much” not “reel to much”. Sorry buddy!
