I used to work on those cars back in the mid 80s, by putting that Duramax 440 in you did what British Leyland couldn’t do…. ,you actually made the car reliable ,Lol ,Great video Chris.

I wonder if any top end speed would be gained using a torque converter before the gearbox? Or perhaps source out a two speed rear end. It seems to have the torque to be able to handle some steeper gears. Totally awesome project.

There are plenty of Smarts with broken engine (here in Canada with the 3 cyl diesel) which can be obtained for cheap. Wonder if I could replace the Manumatic ( kind of hydrolic solenoid who activate the clutch ) by a clutch pedal , so I could use the Smart gearbox driven by a GX clone of 18 hp on top of it ...any Smarts expert here?

The eye of the clutch disc is welded to the 1" coupler , then the coupler attaches to a 1" shaft. This one has a 14 tooth clutch and I think a 34 tooth sprocket on the 1" shaft

How are you engaging the transmission since there is no clutch? This video was abundantly clear you just shoved it in gear, and when you gave it gas it took off. Is there a centrifugal clutch built into the back of the engine or how are you doing this? I'm planning to do something like this with a Bronco or F150 4x4 to tow my gin-pole crane trailer around my property and hatched the idea tonight. Yes, there is a centrifugal clutch on the engine. Some of the other videos show it , you can see it best on the tractor videos. Thanks for watching. Of all of these contraptions, the cars performance is the best.
In a short amount of time I'm going to make that video about the mg but it's the exact same process I used for the truck so if you watch the video where I show how to put the engine in the truck I'll discuss it
I did not mind cutting a hole in the hood of the truck, my goodness I even made the hood scoop out of a wheelbarrow ,but the coolest thing about this MG is that long cool hood and I don't want to mess that up.
It goes in gear just fine, if you get the eye of the clutch and a 1" steel coupler, about any machine shop can make the adapter. I'll have more details on this in the next video.

There are a ton of derelict tractors and vehicles in my area that look to be in solid shape as far as the frame and body are concerned and could probably be put back into service without breaking the bank.
Only thing I would do differently is have a full exhaust out the back with a muffler (maybe like a glass pack or something just to lower the harshness of the exhaust and give it more power)

I noticed in one video you had a little problem with oil in the clutch. have you considered replacing the clutch with a spring loaded belt tensioner hooked up to the clutch peddle. maybe a way to lock it released for starting by rope start. I actually built a tractor very similar to that, it's a Farmall H with a 6.5 predator engine.

I have found several MG's in the $400-$700 range, but then they usually need brakes and tires.
This shows just how bad the original motor was. A lawnmower makes almost the same power

This one actually does really good on hills my Duramax truck is geared a little high, goes a little faster but not near as good on hills.

It goes in gear just fine, if you get the eye of the clutch and a 1" steel coupler, about any machine shop can make the adapter. I'll have more details on this in the next video.

What it actually needs is a 3.4 60 degree V6 with a T5. (Camaro). Fits right in, light weight, has plenty of HP Many Brit cars have had the swap.

I have all the hardware and a muffler to make it exhaust underneath but probably not all the way out the back
You need to register that and drive it around town.

I have thought a lot about a tensioner clutch, just haven't built one yet
On the newest project, the Monster Truck, I kept the clutch pedal just for that reason.
