I loved my Callaway stealhead 7 wood so much , I bought the 11 wood as well. The 11 wood goes 195-205 , beautiful high soft ball flight. My 7 goes 215-225 and I don’t hit any irons lower than a 6 iron. Def my two favorite clubs in my bag. Total cost for both , $60!!!!
That’s my beef with folk selling crap clubs ‘’ great beginner set’’ if anything is going to put a beginner off taking up golf it’s a 70’s set of no name blades that no-one could hit!
I use a Cleveland Mashie M4 hybrid with a Recoil ES 780/F4 cut to 4i length shaft, be interesting if you able to do a similar setup hybrid as I feel its so easy to hit 200yds off tee or a 180/190 yds into greens, with the shorter shaft, I am able to play punch shot under trees and also get it out from any rough or fairway bunker or put close to green side as well.
I like the idea of a “hidden gems” series. Older models that still perform well, and can be picked up for a low price. Like compare a TaylorMade V-Steel to a Sim2 or Stealth.
This is actually what a couple of my buddies and I have turned into a pretty decent sized little mini tour if you will hear in Central Florida. Each month you get a list of acceptable specs and years there's always going to be a few you know exceptions or outliers but it's pretty fun when you know you can't have a club in your bag newer than 2000 and everyone has to play a Wilson 8802 style Mickelson Happy Gilmore hockey style putter my favorite so far was a 975 D driver Cleveland launcher fairway rocket 13° steel 3 wood and the original TaylorMade rescue hybrid. I paired those with a set of silver Scot 845. I won my teir with a net 6 over thru54 holes
Never had a 7 wood before but recently picked up a cheap set of old Taylormade 300 series woods. Got a 3,5 and a 7 and I have to say I absolutely love the 7 wood, in spite of its age it's fantastic to hit.
I switched to a 7w because my 3 hybrid was just going left too often. My golf pro suggested a 7w instead and it has been night and day. I went the used route as I couldn’t stomach a $200+ 7w.
Sooo spot on from my experience too. Nailed it. For me I go 4 wood, 7 wood then 4 hybrid. 3 hybrid destructive shot was snap left. Found a head eventually (TS2), then a shaft later on and built for a fraction of new. Very very regulatory used in better conditions and is swapped out for a 18 degree Adams DHY when on links and high winds. Swing the 7 wood just short of 100mph and lofted down to 20.25. It’s a weapon I simply didn’t have for soft landing into greens previously.
The Heavenwood is honestly one of the best clubs ever, especially for a high handicapper. I use mine set to 22 degrees like a 7 wood, and it's my go-to club off the tees for Par 3s from 130-200 yards. You just plop it on the green with a nice easy swing.
I have a warbird heaven wood in the garage and a Titleist 975D 20.5 that was always my favourite club that could go pretty much any distance I wanted from 120-180. Recent (unintended) evolution to my swing has seemingly made them inconsistent for strike and I now get better results with a hybrid. Can't bring myself to part with the 975 though as it is just the most beautiful little club out there.
In the bag I keep a 7W and 3W, go to by far is the 7W on a flat fairway no breeze it can go 210-230 yards. But that is a rear chance. My club course is very hill tight park lands. So down hill can take 3-4 deg oof, ball below my feet, or the light rough or 190-220 yards out the 7W. Up hill grip down on the 3W change the 15 deg to 18-20 deg with no issue.
I picked up an old Callaway war bird 7 heaven wood and it’s easily one of my favorite clubs. Flys 190 and sits on a dime. With a little work this year I’m going to see if I can make it my 200 yard club
Getting back into golf after awhile if not playing and recently switched my 3w for a heaven wood. Picked up an xr steelhead for $67 in outlet condition (brand new just never sold) on Callaway prewoned. Much easier to hit than a normal 3w for me.
I got a 7 wood in the bag, as my 210-220 yd club (8 hcp, driver clubhead speed around 105 mph). It feels easy to hit, and get up in the air. Gaps in perfectly to my yardages as well, as it replaces my 3 iron (and 2 hybrid) perfectly, but with a lot more forgiveness. Modern 5 wood goes too far for me, 7 wood slots in nicely at 210-220 yds, and can feather it to go 200 yds. 7 woods can also be used by high speed players as well, as a hybrid or long iron alternative, not just for slower speed players. 7 wood is truly a versatile club, now packed with forgiveness.
Exactly the problem I am facing trying to replace an Adams Tight lies 2 that I bought as a trial, I just hook hybrids, with something newer and better for less than £200 in good nick.
still play both 3 and 5 v steel taylormade fairways. Tried all the newer taylormade fairways and they only give 2 or 3 percent improvement for 4 to 5 hundred pound more , its not happening
Thanks Simon for great content, got another potential content for you in point 2 as feels it makes the game that much more consistent for average golfers like myself. 1)I still game my original Taylormade 7wood VSteel 21deg, freshen it up with matt black spray to the top n refitted with Project X 7C7 70g 6.0 S driver shaft cut down in length. Its a versatile club n easy 230 yds fairway finder for me n 200-210 yds into greens. I can play a thin cut or high draw when required with it. I dont play my driver or 3wood (also original TM Vsteel) on most courses. 2) I use a Cleveland Mashie M4 hybrid with a Recoil ES 780/F4 cut to 4i length shaft, be interesting if you able to do a similar setup hybrid as I feel its so easy to hit 200yds off tee or a 180/185 yds into greens, with the shorter shaft, I am able to play punch shot under trees and also get it out from any rough or fairway bunker or put close to green side as well.
I play off a 9 handicap but have struggled with hybrids for the last year or two, then recently remembered I had the callaway steelhead ‘heavenwood’ 7-wood about 20yrs ago and used to hit it really well. Have no clue what happened to it though. So went and sold my hybrids and purchased a new Taylormade SIM2 7-wood and it’s been fantastic from day 1! I’m hitting it around 210 and even 220 at times, only about 10-15 less than a flushed 3-wood. It really has transformed par-5’s for me. Why I didn’t do it sooner is beyond me! I’d recommend anyone to put a 7-wood in the bag, cracking clubs!
I own an Adams tight lies 7 wood it may have been the first 7 wood design,I have never used it for years it worked well for me until my game improved with faster clubhead speed
Try finding a left handed one, it’s rarer than rocking horse poop. I have a sim2 7 wood and a g425 9 wood. Absolutely love them and they will be staying in the bag for a long time
I'm in my 50s and use a lady flex Dunlop Max 7 Wood from 2005 thar I picked up for £20 new a few years back. There's tons more loft on it (30 deg) than modern 7 woods and it gives me a reliable 150 yd shot from anywhere. I thought the club was going to be cheap rubbish, but I hit it better than a Sim Max hybrid 😁
Simon great video as always. I bought a x hot 2 9 wood for £30 to compare against my 5 iron, both go similar distance .. but 9 wood higher flight. Always wonder what the difference is between a 5 wood hl and a 7 wood ?
I've got around £250-£350 to get some irons. Been playing with some cobra bafflers for about 2 years and am looking for something forgiving. What are some suggestions? Not fussed on brand.
Picked up a Taylormade V Steel 7 wood a couple days ago, steel shaft. I want to toss a new shaft into it - maybe Hzrdous Smoke similar to your video from 2 years ago. What are your thoughts on using a hybrid shaft in a 7 wood?
I work in the pro shop of a private club. We have golfers of every handicap, low single-digit to 35+. We have never stocked a 7 wood from any of the top brands that we carry. I play off a 9.3 index and have a Callaway Epic Speed 7w in my bag. It's just too easy to hit...
How do you like it so far? I found an Epic Max Heavenwood w headcover a few days ago for $150CDN (£95). 4 wood length and 20° loft. Too damn wet to play much in Vancouver right now.
Always saleable....not many made but many older golfers and higher handicappers want them. I'm getting older now so i might think about getting another 1
Just a thought. 7 woods are excellent as they have more forgiveness for all (which is why the pro's, as well as handicap golfers, want to play them). So why don't more manufacturers make them, I wonder? And make them in different flexes (often, no X-Stiff, no Seniors etc.)!
I’ve got that old Steelhead 7 wood. Can’t hit it to save my life. That rounded sole is a killer. That, and the head is the size of a peanut. Yeah, that exposed face looks like it’s going to be easier to get in the air, but with that rounded sole, I can get it off the ground!
Thanks for watching guys! New series idea, clubs that are being thrown away haha 😂

I play a Big Bertha 7 wd and I also play a Callaway Razer x black 9 wd and I love them both, my most versatile clubs

I still use my Callaway steel head five wood and at twenty years old its just as good as my playing partners Callaway five wood of two years old.
Funny how that works...🤣
Got a Heaven Wood as part of job lot. Tried it against my M4 hybrid and P790 driving iron. Was impressed given its age.
I switched to a 7w because my 3 hybrid was just going left too often. My golf pro suggested a 7w instead and it has been night and day. I went the used route as I couldn’t stomach a $200+ 7w.

I’ve played a 7 wood for a couple of seasons replacing my 4 iron and now added a 9 wood to my bag for the season ahead to replace my 5iron
I do the same only the 11 wood replaced my 5 , 7 wood my 3 iron.
yep, have a G25 7 wood.... highly recommend...... long, forgiving......
I bought mine from Callaway pre-owned in new condition for around £150. I love it.
I have a warbird heaven wood in the garage and a Titleist 975D 20.5 that was always my favourite club that could go pretty much any distance I wanted from 120-180. That's one you would regret selling/trading.Keep her safe!😎👍

I game a ping k 15 been the bag a long time and will stay till it falls to bits love it
I’m playing of 8hcp Loving my callaway v series heavenwood, changed the shaft to à rouge stiff shaft in a 5 Wood length, 210 yard shots into greens🤙
Have Cobra F9 7 wood. It’s my most reliable FW . Last Sunday hit the flag on 2 separate holes. Aim it straight and it goes!

Now try to find one as a left handed player.. trying to get one on a budged for a while now but its no bueno
Exactly the problem I am facing trying to replace an Adams Tight lies 2 that I bought as a trial, I just hook hybrids, with something newer and better for less than £200 in good nick.
OMG! I had a Steelhead custom built with a Rifle Flighted 6.5 shaft. Always regret selling it. Most versatile weapon ever.
still play both 3 and 5 v steel taylormade fairways. Tried all the newer taylormade fairways and they only give 2 or 3 percent improvement for 4 to 5 hundred pound more , its not happening
Have Wilson Staff, Fwc 9 7 and 5 Woods with nanotech shafts. Brilliant clubs.
Thanks Simon for great content, got another potential content for you in point 2 as feels it makes the game that much more consistent for average golfers like myself.

Lol I went on eBay and bought steelhead 7,9,11 for $90 total. Those three clubs are my absolute favorite in my bag!!!
I own an Adams tight lies 7 wood it may have been the first 7 wood design,I have never used it for years it worked well for me until my game improved with faster clubhead speed
I had a 7 and 9 steelhead. They were mu go to clubs until the Taylor Made Rescue hybrids.
Got a Ping G400 7 wood (left handed too!) and I love it :)
I picked up a Ping G30 7 wood a couple of months ago, just need to get out on the course a bit more to see how it works
Just bought a Steelhead xr 7 wood. Super lucky to have got it off callaway pre owned for 80 usd. Came in the wrapper
Love my Adams Speedline 7 wood 21d and it a ladies! Cost £25 on golf bidder last month! So the deals are out there.
Try finding a left handed one, it’s rarer than rocking horse poop. I have a sim2 7 wood and a g425 9 wood. Absolutely love them and they will be staying in the bag for a long time
Found a Callaway GBB Hawkeye 7 wood rotting away in my father in laws shed. New grip and it has found a place in my bag...
7w is my favorite club as I cannot hit hybrids or long irons well. The easiest club to hit straight
my Slazenger 7 wood has a 22° loft on it and it's beautiful
I’ve got a driver 3w 5w 7w 9w 11w in the bag
I’ve been looking for a Taylormade VSteel or Callaway warbird 7 wood. I’m also thinking of stepping down to a 4 wood. 3 wood is outdated.
I have a yonex 7 wood £21 and an old king cobra 5 and 7 wood for £25..i love using old clubs
What about a senior flex shaft in the steel head. Would that make any difference...?
I work in the pro shop of a private club. We have golfers of every handicap, low single-digit to 35+. We have never stocked a 7 wood from any of the top brands that we carry. I play off a 9.3 index and have a Callaway Epic Speed 7w in my bag. It's just too easy to hit...
Was looking for a epic max 7 wood deal and picked one up for £130, pretty much brand new!
How do you like it so far? I found an Epic Max Heavenwood w headcover a few days ago for $150CDN (£95). 4 wood length and 20° loft. Too damn wet to play much in Vancouver right now.
Always saleable....not many made but many older golfers and higher handicappers want them.
I'm getting older now so i might think about getting another 1
Love this channel 👏
Keep up awesome videos! Once you get a studio I am there lol
I have Taylor Made M4 Hi Launch 5 wood - loft 21.5 degrees. So a 7 wood really. One of the easiest clubs to hit which I have owned (28 handicap).
Great video 👍
Hey Simon ! Have you got any PXG driver shafts knocking about ! Really can’t stand my NV . Hoping you can save me selling my PXG Proto 🤞
Cally GBB Woods - 1, 2, 3, 3+, 4, 4+, 5, 7, 9, 11 - I have a 7 heavenwood, its a beauty. Is that all of them???
I’ve got a G400 7wood wouldn’t swop it for anything, my go to club when everything is going south
I would kill to have a swing as nice as your "slice" swing lol
Just a thought. 7 woods are excellent as they have more forgiveness for all (which is why the pro's, as well as handicap golfers, want to play them). So why don't more manufacturers make them, I wonder? And make them in different flexes (often, no X-Stiff, no Seniors etc.)!
I had a Taylormade SLDR S 7 wood ladies flex. It was a weapon. Sorry I sold it now 😪
Can't hit a hybrid goes left on me. 7 wood brilliant goes right instead 😆
I have that exact big bertha 7 in my basement lol
I have upgraded all my clubs except my Callaway Hawkeye VFT 7w. It’s too reliable to get rid of
Why not fit yourself into a, shorter 7w if you want lower trajectory?
Oddly enough I actually have a 9w and 11w head sitting in my closet right now.
I have both, and the 11 wood! Love hitting them
I’ve got that old Steelhead 7 wood. Can’t hit it to save my life. That rounded sole is a killer. That, and the head is the size of a peanut. Yeah, that exposed face looks like it’s going to be easier to get in the air, but with that rounded sole, I can get it off the ground!
👍👍👍👍
There are 7 woods? Oh good I can stop lugging these hybrids around.
I’m early…this is weird. 👀
AND how did you know I was looking at 7 woods lately???🤔
