Yes! I’ve amazed people when I pull out my 11 and 9 woods. And land softly on the green from 175 or 190 yards or out of a bunker. These high lofted woods are amazing. I am still packing a 7H for shorter shots and a 5W when I want a little more distance. I think we’re going to see more high loft woods out there. They’re awesome.

Have been playing a Sim 2 9 wood and I love it. Great on long par 3 as it launches high and lands soft or a lay up club on par 5 holes. I’m getting on and have lost speed and distance so this club has been a game changer. My longest iron now is a 6

I am about ready to pull the string on a nine wood - and it's mainly due to your reviews too. I will probably go with a Callaway Rogue instead of a Stealth, but I do have a gap that I need to fill and it seems like it will be a good fit. I like the versatility being able to play it out of the rough and get that towering ball flight still. I'll have a Cleveland 27 degree 6 hybrid on one end and the 18 degree Cleveland 3+ Hy-Wood on the other. There will be some overlap so I should be able to adjust if wind is an issue. Should still work out well I think. It will be fun trying. I have the most customized bag you could possibly imagine now and I love it.

After a recent lesson that fixed a significant swing issue I realized my Titleist 4 Hybrid was now a very reliable, straight club for me for around 195-205 yards - my home course has zero forgiveness for left or right misses off most tees.. I dropped the driver & 3W (rarely used anyway) and played with that as the longest club in my bag. That meant I was using that 4H on way more shots - par 5s were often 3 shots with that club and long par 4s were two shots with it. 4i/5i were removed and I added a PXG 19-degree 3 hybrid for more distance. The driver returned to the bag but I only use it where there's plenty of margin for error and the extra distance is worthwhile .. so mostly long wide par 5s when the pressure is off. Scores have dropped, way fewer strokes lost from poor tee shots and it hugely simplified my shot selection process. Also regularly playing the same club over & over built up even more consistency.

Interesting video Andy. I’ve been asking myself the same question recently. I’ve got a B21 7 wood which I absolutely love and more recently have acquired a Stealth 9 wood. They both go roughly 200 yards but I’d say the Stealth launches higher so might be more versatile. I’m loathed to give up my B21 7 wood as it gives me great confidence. Might need to test longer

Was just testing earlier this evening my 3w, 5w, 3h & 2i. Ended up strengthening the 3w to 14° to create more gap w 17° 2i which I kept for lower ball flights and tight tee shots & then 20° 3h with a short shaft playing as a 3i replacement but with higher landing angle and easy to chip around the green with - for now 5w is out of the bag

I bought a used M2 hi launch 7 wood last year. It's 24 degrees, so it's a 9 wood. I use this club in so many ways, from full shots into greens to bump and runs around the greens. It is also very effective out of fairway bunkers. It is nice to have a club that gives you so much confidence. Thanks for the video.

I feel the same about using a 5 wood instead of a 3 wood. I get better ball fight and around the same distance with a 5 wood so I don't even bother with a 3 wood or 4 hybrid. I prefer fairway woods over hybrids anyway but I do like the 6 hybrid I have mainly because the loft works and it works in the rough. Really enjoy these "in the bag series" that you do.

Interesting vlog, I’ve just ditched my driver and started to use the Cobra King Tech 3 rescue hybrid. Makes such a difference, golf has become more enjoyable rather than battling withe the trees and bushes 😁

What timing! I am looking between my 7 and 9 wood myself. I ditched my 3 wood years ago, but I now have new same length irons from Henry-Griffitts and have a four iron I can hit quite well, so the high flight is desirable from one of these woods, but which one? I am tending towards removing the 9 since I can choke down on the 7 to shorten the carry if I need to.

I had the same issue with my Cobra F9 5 wood and TS2 7 wood. In the end the TS2 was more reliable, so I put that in the bag. I have a Cobra F7 22-25 degree hybrid and a 19 Wilson Fywood that make cameo appearances in my bag depending on the conditions. The TS2 27 hybrid is a regular in my bag , but the Cobra F9 SL 19 Hybrid is my " go to" club for any tricky situation and when in doubtful lies I use it to advance the ball towards the target. It is like hitting a 7 iron.

Hi Andy, interesting that the higher lofted woods have over more recent years (5) been making a come back, Callaway had the main market covered back in the day, heaven wood etc comes to mind. I think the issue here is that it is mainly aimed at the more senior golfers as it did back in the day, but as you have pointed out even the top professionals are now seeing the benefit in such clubs. You also tend because they are aimed at the senior end, stocked, online or demo clubs tend to offer only two shaft options either regular or senior and not stiff as would be required by more younger golfers. Additionally the other problem is that a lot of retailers don't stock the 7 and 9 wood options. or online shops are more than not sold out with indeterminable waiting periods. But interesting review all the same. M

Tried a 9w but ended up with a 7w. Not a lot of difference in carry between the 2, maybe half a club at most. My problem with the 9w was the ball flight, just too high for me, could not control it in wind. 7w was a bit lower and I could manipulate the face to get it lower still.
I do remember around a year ago I tried a 4w, 5w, 7w and 9w with the same shaft, there was at most 8 yards between longest average carry and shortest !

yup...my thoughts exactly. I put in a 7 wood, but I also put a 1 hybrid in for the extra distance and workability versus a 5 wood. So, even though I have an odd set up. I have a high ball and low flight set up for longer distances. The 1 hybrid end up being a lower flight but higher distance club than my 7 wood. It is indeed odd, but then end, so is my game

I actually have a nearly identical dilemma. I initially had irons to 6, then had two utilities. I noticed the 4U didn't go much further than the 5U, so I tried adding a half inch to the shaft- same distance, but a little less consistency. So, I got a 4 hybrid to fill the gap and I do hit it further, but still have a gap, so I added a 3 Hybrid, but got the same distance. So, I got a 5 Wood, and found it's just a hair longer. So, I'm currently playing the irons to 6, the 5 utility, the 4 hybrid, and then the 5 wood, but they're fairly tight. I need to go somewhere with a launch monitor and figure it all out. Maybe one or two fewer clubs at the top is the way to go and add a wedge or carry 12 or 13.

As you say might not be suitable for windy days probably a decision to make when you get to the course on the day. It's a good club to carry as loft is forgiving. I bought a Stealth 3HL recently for a lower flight and 15 yards more distance, but it’s easy to dial it back. The hywood does one job really well…..high and straight, 195-212 swing after swing depending on conditions.

My Cobra 5 wood is 18.5 and my Cobra 7 is 22.5. That's almost a 6 and 8 wood! I could dial them up to 20 and 24 but that's going to be another range session. I'm not even an average golfer but those along with my driver take care of the tee to 9 iron range or closer on most holes. The last par 5 I played was on in three with Driver and 2 7 woods. Gotta love those high lofted woods.

I switched to 9 and 7 wood - longest iron is a 6. So easy to hit in the air - and I aint that good I need to 'accuracy' of an iron for those distances. I stopped making all those mistakes I made when hitting 5, 4 and 3 irons. I kept the 4 iron only for when in the trees and needing to hit a low runner under the branches.

Surprised on par 5 after two 9 wood shots you didn't use it for the shot onto the green. I have a 9 wood I use from 120 in but I am a short hitter anyway but find 9 wood most forgiving club in bag.

The shot at 4:33 using the 9w came up short of the green, the 7w should have made the green. Given the yardage comparison, I would choose the 7w.

If you take any Average Golfer and ask them to hit a high 200-yard shot off either a tight lie or out of the rough, then nothing else will more quickly expose their handicap than this specific shot and being able to hit it consistently. If you can find any club that will help you hit this shot more consistently, then I can guarantee it will lower your handicap. I would say this is the most important club in the bag to get right because a bad shot at this length can be very costly.

@@davidgroom9667 on the PGA Tour, the 200-225 shot is the #1 predictor of whether you make the cut and get paid - so I disagree completely - it is the most important shot in golf to get better at. For further evidence of this, the difference in handicap adjustment between a women's handicap and a men's, to adjust for playing the same tees is 6 shots - i.e. going from 6000 to 7000 yards is all about this distance and it's worth 6 shots of handicap.

I used to carry a driver,3wd, and 2 iron-lw. Now, because of these beautiful trajectories and distances, I now carry
    Driver,3 wd,5 wd,7 wd and 9 wd
I also carry a 7hybrid to replace my 6 iron. All those are so very easy to hit.
But my clubs are as listed
    Stealth 8* adjusted to 6*
    Stealth 13.5 std loft
    radspeed 18.5 std
    Speedzone 22.5 std
    Speedzone (women head) 27*
    Speedzone 7h 31*
They are just way to fun and easy to hit.
